Grim and Fantastical Tales of the Other Side, by Alexander Wick.

Otherwise known by his friends as Grimwick.

Hello! Today I thought I’d share a PC-turned-NPC that I’m very fond of. His name is Grimwick and he’s a “scriptorii”, which is basically a living book. He is a collection of fairy tales written by a man who ventured into the Feywild itself for inspiration. His author’s soul was taken by the fey for the crime of putting these stories to paper (the fey value oral tradition, paper is just too Lawful for them), and Grimwick has searched ever since for a way to return his author to life to finish the stories left unwritten.

Grimwick’s motivation makes him a great quest-giving NPC if you have a campaign that explores magic a lot: he’d happily pay your PCs with magic items of his creation (he is a high-level bard) or with specialist knowledge of the Feywild in return for the retrieval of some lore or item that can bring his author back. Better yet, if you can give him a new tale to add to his pages, he’ll owe you a great debt.
