Inspired by @unhingedself to do Monster songs, I'm really happy people share the stuff that reminds them of this series, and songs are an immediate catch for me! I wish I could've found ones for some of the others, like Gillen and Roberto, but I'll keep looking :>
I messed up on some of the format but that's okay ^^;; some of these are genres that don't 'match' the person but the lyrics do :3 (not listed for Steiner, Deadeyes by Whitey, I really wanted to put that one there aaa)

no man’s land. | @badheart
Wolfgang does not lose control. He groans and broods and slouches with indignance, denying all involvement in murderous activity when officers question his presence at recent crime scenes. He’s very careful about speaking of details and the who’s of what he’s seen, but Wolfgang manages to slip under the radar most times, because it’s not hard to stay hidden in plain sight when you’re a simple man on the streets of Germany. Tokyo treats him like a different beast entirely. He nearly suffocates at the presence of law enforcement and watchful citizen perched at odd corners and streets ends. He can’t breathe. He can’t feed. Wolfgang feels like an animal — all consuming of instinct, want and need to —to feed. He concentrates and finds it’s a lot easier to do so in the black of the alleyway far into a neighborhood so dingy it reeks of urine and beer and — and meth?
His hand reaches of the wall, fingers gliding between the brick layout. His other hand comes to his face, holding his forehead, thumb barring sharply to his temple. He waits and wants. The smell of blood fills his nose while the almost distinct chatters of men fill the alley. They sneer and laugh, wondering if he’s just a lost foreigner, wondering if he’s got enough cash for another bottle of that retched smelling beer. Wolfgang would love it if they all disappeared and the dark of the alley gave him enough room to breathe — if the alley were long enough to give time for this affliction to pass and not consume him. Wolfgang does not lose control, but he was never that lucky. He remembers his fingers piercing something gooey. The glint of streetlights hit a piece of metal in one of the assailants pockets and lots of screaming. There was a miserable sort of sobbing noise and he was confused since the only one standing seemed to be him in a pool of blood and another presence too overwhelming to ignore.
“Long way from the Sky Tree it seems,” Wolfgang mumbles, gaining his bearings. He has a ghost of a smile when she reaches from her gun, amused at the threat knowing he’d just massacred an annoying gaggle of men. “Would you believe I’m not from here? The hospitality didn’t live up to my expectations.”
Wolfgang summons the will of smile fully. He breathes deeply and can finally turn to meet the gaze of a woman who at the very least isn’t perturbed by his outburst enough to tremble. Good, he thinks. Someone he can talk to without having to hide that pesky side of him. “Kind of embarrassin’ to be caught in the middle of a tantrum. I don’t usually like travelling to the city often and, well, as you can see there’s a reason,” Wolfgang looks down to the twitching hand of a man way beyond the grave. “Albeit a very dangerous one. You wouldn’t maybe forget I was here, would you... Officer?”

Most special mention to the most amazing character who I wish had lived. (Had to include this from the previous post because yes)
Wolfgang Grimmer.
Loved this man.
Hated what happened.
Until the end, this man.
He made me feel so much things and understand so much about so many things.
He smiled but, you know the gist.
Fuck, how I wish he had lived.
When he cried at the end. Saying that he's crying because his kid died.
In general, the character execution. The magnificent Steiner. Wow.
In the final episode of Magnificent Steiner, he becomes a human.
Rest in peace, Wolfgang Grimmer.
I'll always remember you.
And also : It’s impossible for humans to forget their emotions.
You were always a human. The things you went through, you survived, and the path you chose, everything, the good, the bad, the anger and the sadness, the things you didn't feel and learned to imitate thinking you don't feel. All of your journey, in the end.
Everything about you was human.
You being the person you were with kids, the kindness you had, you selecting the path of human rights, it was you.
You were the kindest human.
And even if the kindness was an imitation, i wish people imitated it the way you do.
For even that, would be the greatest kindness of all. For it was in reality, never an imitation.
You were kind, truly kind, always kind.
Some of his dialogues and pictures⬇️
Do you have any idea how terrible the things you did really mean? Do you understand what it means to destroy a human being’s sense of good and evil? Can you even begin to comprehend what happens when you awaken the monster inside each us? People should know in their hearts that food tastes good. They should always look forward to having picnics and wonderful places on their weekends. They should think that beer tastes good after a hard day’s work. People should know how they should feel, that they’re supposed to grieve, from the bottom of their hearts when they have to bury their own child.”
“As long as we are under the same sky, we shouldn’t be sad when we part ways.”
“It’s impossible for humans to forget their emotions.”
“Everyone in this world carries around their own sins, and they never go away…but that doesn’t change the fact that we do what we must.”
“You can’t just erase people’s feelings. It’s as if my emotions were lost somewhere hundreds of miles away. It’s as if they were sent long ago, in a letter that was always intended for me.”
"In the last episode of the Magnificent Steiner he probably turned back into a normal human being."
Wolfgang Grimmer. You. Such a warm character. With such a heartbreaking past. Warm hugs for you. I wish you lived.

I'm on episode 73 of Monster now and I need to call it a day but I also know I'm not gonna sleep tonight because of how shaky I am after watching that... I'm all cried out and I sweat like ten buckets so I'm basically a raisin now
Read More below because I need to speak my thoughts somewhere. Major spoilers ofc.
I will literally never recover from when Grimmer said he couldn't recall the last episode of The Magnificent Steiner. From there the waterworks started. I really liked his unexpected friendship with Inspector Lunge and I am totally not okay about the fact that they will never have a beer together and that he will also never have a picnic with Tenma.... I thought him and the lady at the sausage shop would have a future and that he would be her prince! Her death was really brutal and it was crazy seeing the aftermath of Grimmer's reaction
Also, Inspector Lunge has always been cool but I'm actually weak from how he's escalated in these episodes. I was genuinely fearing he would die and I'm kind of convinced he won't now but for a string of episodes there I was getting ready for a Lunge funeral. When he said "the computer in my brain tells me your calculations are wrong" I think I ascended to heaven. Absolute legend for killing Roberto; I audibly screamed far too many times. Was Roberto really sleeping with Lunge's wife or was I reading too deep into that? Either way, I'm so hopeful that Lunge will actually have some kind of family life after this because after like forty episodes they're finally bringing it up again...
I had also made a passing comment that Adolph Reinhardt was Roberto when the old man showed that picture so many episodes ago but for some reason them saying his real name and it not being Roberto was enough to make me drop it for some reason??? As if not every Kinderheim 511 kid goes by an alias??? Anyways this show did NOT make me cry about Roberto... Okay, maybe it did but whatever...
I'm genuinely obsessed with the way they brought in Klaus Poppe like I was seriously convinced he was the sweetest little man and then Lunge's monologue about how he "became imaginary" sent me to a higher dimension. That being said, I wish him the very worst. ✌️
ALSO??? Why is Gillen in Ruhenheim instead of Reichwein??? When he said Tenma was his friend it was so precious but my guy why are you here?? Is this a plot device so there'll be recordings? Will he and Tenma actually reunite? Honestly, I'm scared he's gonna die.
I'm also going to need the Wim and Dieter custody situation ASAP. If they aren't friends by the end of this I'm gonna weep.

hear me out but Grimmer's character is the best representation of characters who deprived feelings. Naoki Urasawa knows the difference between lack emotions and lack feelings, he knows the difference between these two categories. Grimmer deprived of the feelings (unconsciously supress them) because he was programmed to do that but despite of that he has very wide spectrum of emotions he can demonstrate. We know for sure that he learned these emotions in order to integrate into society but I just want to say that it's so good that Grimmer not of those stone-faced stereotypical characters without emotions. Feeling so good.

Personal Thoughts on DID and Monster.
(This is going to be based on how I see others in this fandom interact with The Magnificent Steiner, nothing brought this on, I was just thinking about it.)
When I first found out that Wolfgang Grimmer had a headmate, I was super stoked. I was aware of the elements of the series, I definitely didn't go in blind, nor was I disappointed in his portrayal, but I will say - the fandom doesn't handle him well at all. (Speaking as someone who has diagnosed DID.)
While his role is protector, not much else is touched on, especially in writing and art. He's almost always seen as aggressive or covered in blood, and yeah, super cool for the artists and stuff to even include him (because there are some who leave him out entirely), but there's a suspension that "blood covered angry DID alter" is all he'll ever be. It makes me kind of sad to see it.
It's understood that there isn't much about Steiner's source material, or much info about how he ended up with Wolfgang, and I know most don't want to portray him negatively, but in my experience when others do give it a shot, it's a really set stereotype. When doing research, there's only so much to understand from the clinical to the personal, and since this disorder is so varied, it's hard to do it right, but when expressing this disorder, there's always room for the headmate(s) in question to be positively touched on. Happiness is a right, and headmates should be seen as happy too.
But when all I see is art of him beating the shit out of someone (or that one art with the lady in the white void, that one made my skin crawl, if you know you know.) I kind of shrink back. Urasawa did his best handling Steiner and Wolfgang, and he did better than most media that depicts DID to date, in my opinion, but a fundamental thing about it, the humanity of the headmate got lost somewhere, so when seeing depictions, it seems like Steiner will always be someone who can never live past his initial role.
I've seen others in this fandom talk about Steiner like some kind of specimen, and Wolfgang like that too in some aspects, and while this manga/anime does tend to attract the deep thinkers and the analysts, there should be consideration for the ones who Urasawa's (while largely well) depiction ultimately affects. It's not perfect, but just like how others perceive Johan to be some master of deception (even though it was mostly inherent advantages for the decade and place, and the lack of actual joint investigation - ahem, Czech police) the same could be applied to how others see Wolfgang and Steiner. The generalization that Steiner is extremely violent and only violent is very negative and that can lead to a lot of misunderstanding when interacting with this fandom.
I've been in conversations where my headmates have chimed in only to be talked to like they were a part of a think piece or picked apart like they weren't human. A word of caution, when talking about Wolfgang and Steiner (or any person in fiction with DID, good rep or not) there will always be the internal biases that you'll have, to pick the character(s) apart and to analyze, but do your best to remember the life/humanity these headmates hold, even if you'd never get to talk to them. It genuinely affects how others see DID as a whole when all we have in fiction/fandom spaces is either violence or perceived incompetence from being looked at like we can't take care of ourselves.
Please treat your characters with extremely stigmatized disorders kindly, there are real people who will see your works and wonder if all they'll ever be is a stereotype.

𝐇𝐎𝐖 𝐃𝐎 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐁𝐄𝐒𝐓 𝐋𝐈𝐊𝐄 𝐓𝐎 𝐁𝐄 𝐋𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐃?
FEED ME YOUR FINEST FOODS
you want to consume love. literally. to cut it up with a knife, then stab it with your fork and eat it and let it gather in your belly. to know what it feels like inside of your mouth. and your grandmother always showed it best - food is love is food is love. this is emotion, but represented in a way you understand. a way that you can relate to and, again, consume. it is temporary, but essential. we eat to live, and then we love, but that part can get confusing. but we eat, we all eat. and you might not be able to say 'i love you' in words, but if someone brings you a pie, you can cut yourself a slice and swallow it down and tell them that it tastes really good. you can make sure that they also share a slice. you can see them smile and know that they know that you know. that you did it right this time. i hope you know you're worth a love that exists for longer than the time it takes to eat something. you're worth the words, both said and heard.
WRITE ME YOUR WORDS OF WONDER
you want to be thought of with intent, for someone to sit down and want to share their thoughts with you specifically. and their thoughts about you, even more. for someone to Know you, or at least desire the knowledge. for them to write it out in a way that you can read as quickly or slowly as you desire. that you can reread again and again, or lock in a box and never read after that first quick consumption. you crave that tangibility. and the small moments that lead up to the letter being in your hand. to be told, 'it's in the mail' and then to have the simple joy of checking the mailbox to see if it has come today. to hold the envelope and feel the love within. there is a purpose of intent within physically written words, and it patches the parts of you that feel like you aren't worth thinking about. my darling, know that you are. you are worth intentional thought and cursive letters and an envelope sealed with a kiss.
CRAFT ME A CUNNING CREATION
the power of 'i made this for you' is enough to make your heart ache in the good kind of way. the knowledge that someone sat down, and, with you in mind, they Created. they painted, they knit, they sculpted, they folded. they Created for you. it is something tangible. something that will remain when they have to leave for the night. something that lingers. you can look at it, touch it, and you can know that you were cared for enough to inspire creation. you were the source of someone wanting to make. you were, and you are, and you have proof of it. you have proof that they think of you, proof that they thought. and you're worth it, love, you're inspirational. i hope you have an entire shelf or bookcase filled with proof of being thought of and remembered. filled with tangible evidence of consideration.
