Traffic/Life series roster as dinosaurs

A lot of these don't make for very good hybrids unless you wanna get into freaky territory or full on centaur but... Hope it's a fun scroll nonetheless!

Grian - Novialoidea

A small birdie... The name also means "New wings" which I find fun. New lives and death games to be part of, new wings to accompany him... (Honorable mention to "Shuvuuia" the "desert bird" who unfortunately is not a pterosaur (doesn't fly)) (Yes we're including pterosaurs! Just using "dinosaur" as a conveient blanket term)

Tango - Aratasaurus / Pyroraptor

Fire raptor! Either works just fine and Tango as a skittery little raptor is perfect for a creature like him

Scar - Apatosaurus

"Deceptive Lizard" harkening back to Scar's scamming tendencies. Though I've always liked the idea of him being some larger gentler animal in any hybrid scenario and a long-neck fits the bill well. He can poke his nose into people's conversations easily to start marketing something useless to them and swishes his tail to ward off anyone who's about to stop him

Impulse - Nasutoceratops

Ren - Regaliceratops

Horns. COOL horns. I don't know what else you want from me ceratopses are just way too awesome. Nasutoceratops is a wicked cool dinosaur for having its horns point so forward much like a bull and I for one can jive with some Impulse bull symbolism. Bulls are often viewed as strong, sturdy and loyal, traits also assigned to Impulse a LOT of the time. But though he IS intensely loyal in many cases (+ Ceratopses are also known for how they defend their own!), and he's not very outward about the following traits, he can get quite petty and bitchy and hold grudges. Still, you don't think of that when you look at him and he seems to agree! Eg him feeling like he should be accepted into Cleo's alliance in 3rd life without actually proving himself when Cleo was rightfully hesitant, at which Impulse more or less rolled his eyes. And him proclaiming "betrayal!" when killed by Bdubs when their alliance was as firm as a rat's tail

(And I feel the need to point this out too just in case: "bulls are also known for their temper" yeah but they're not like that! Bulls like many animals become defensive when exposed to aggravating behavior or movement! Which you could work into Impulse's grudge holding and intense loyalty...? I don't know enough about him sorry but do with that what you will)

Regaliceratops! Regal!! Crown shaped frill!!! Need I say more?

Gem - Therizinosaurus

Theris are so bad bitch coated to me and I would love to have one as my wife I mean um I couldn't decide on a less generic specimen so Gem can just be a Theri! A herbivore - often associated with the belief that herbivores are gentle passive creatures, but far from it, especially with Gem! She bares her claws like it's no one's business

Martyn - Stygmoloch

A Pachy with a tough head and a tendency to bonk people - I think it fits Martyn's tendency to perpetuate drama haha. The Stygmoloch's name though more or less translates to "demon of the styx river", the river of the underworld representing loathing of death. To me this makes sense with all the watcher lore (that I have a hard time understanding but whatever!!) especially with how Martyn became in LL. The watchers themselves don't loathe death (??) of course. They're death games. But someone within the game trying to stay alive and win? Probably loathes the idea of themselves dying. I have no clue what Im saying

Pearl - Carnotaurus

Ok maybe a hot take not to make her into a pteradon or even a raptor with wing-like features but those just didn't fit that well in my opinion. Rather I wanted her to have some kind of horn motif in place of her wings as visual symbolism for her character. I'd like to imagine her having fine horns, to then have them damaged (one broken off) and simultaneously the other more grown out. Think of how domesticated goats for example have their horns trimmed. I think human hybrids with horns would do the same to keep them from becoming a bother but Pearl would neglect to after her heartbreak in DL. I was heavily considering the Diabloceratops for this, especially because of the name (Devil horned face - good ostracizing material) but Pearl strikes me a lot more as a carnivore and there are only two horned carnivores out there so... Carnotaurus it is haha. And even now I'm making her horns unrealistically big but.... We can suspend some belief

BigB - Oryctodromeus

"Digging Runner"! I've already talked plenty of why BigB is very rabbit behavior to me and my reasons for assigning this burrowing dinosaur to him are similar. Tldr he is fidgety and cautious yet clever and constantly buries himself underground

Lizzie - Anurognathidae

I don't even fucking know man it made me think of Lizzie and then I wasn't able to assign anything else to her. Lizzie often claims to be confused and if any dinosaur looks to be in a perpetual state of confusion then its this one. I know a lot of people like to portray Lizzie as a butterfly also so there you go, wings!!! And it's quite cat-like too for those who like to draw her as a cat

Mumbo - Leinkupal

I really struggled with Mumbo... So many different dinos fit him imo but I figured it should be at least something moderately large (so "Technosaurus" was out of the question lol). Then I rediscovered this dinosaur whose name translates to "vanishing family" and then I thought about LL and SL and how Mumbo went out quickly after the initial death/s and left a very felt absence in someone's alliance and then I became really emotional and forgot what I was doing

Joel - Nodocephalosaurus

Bdubs - Psittacosaurus

"Knob Headed Lizard"

Joel as an Ankylosaur has been stuck in my head from day one of assigning dinosaurs to the Lifers and I'm frustrated that I can't truly explain why. You'd view an Ankylosaur as a slow and docile creature, even compared to other herbivores, but...

1. Maybe not so much nowadays, I don't know what non-dino nerds think, but I feel like ankylosaurs were largely believed to be HUGE back in the day, much like velociraptors, when in reality they're not that big. The Nodocephalosaurus is especially small even among other ankylosaurs. But, well, we all know what Joel loves to say about himself

2. Joel is or likes to make himself look well in control, just as ankylosaurs have little to worry about as far as predators go. Especially in earlier series where he was content basing mostly by himself. It's always when things get dire and he enters his red life that he becomes very impulsive and erratic like an ankylosaur flipped on its back

3. I know there's a distinction between Traffic Joel and Empires Joel and whatever other Joel but... Even in death games his more charitable traits shine through here and there. He really becomes a dangerous rascal for a large majority of the time and he's very good at it, he's not putting on a mask or anything, but I like to remember that underneath that tough spiky armor is gentleness and caring. His care towards Lizzie and Pearl and Etho etc etc

4. The image of Joel as a hell of a spiky creature is just really fun to me. Yet heavy and blunt ones! And someone once proposed the idea of him having a club tail but having chiselled it to be sharp to mirror him being a menace. (Added benefit also that it's lighter that way haha) To me he's always been an obvious heavy hitter rather than stealthy or particularly creative etc. Him as a carnivore just doesn't work as well for me

The name bares no fitting meaning but when I look at Bdubs I think of Psittaco. All other species close to it in looks are already ceratopsians and we have like... 3 of those already lol. Im sorry Bdubs you look so stupid

Cleo - Lythronax

There's so few predators in this roster lol oops, but Cleo deserves to be an apex one! The name translates to "Gore King" because you know, zombies... and you know, Cleo is very king so true. If any of the Lifers should be able to boast rows of razor sharp teeth to gore others it should be ZombieCleo

Scott - Theiophytalia

I've been really struggling with Scott but how about the dinosaur whose name translates to "Belonging to the garden of Gods". There's only one known specimen of this species and it's an Iguanadon looking dinosaur which I think a lot of people would regard as the most basic, possibly boring type of dinosaur (if it weren't for the Allosaurus which already takes the title of "basic straight white guy") but that further fits Scott imo. It's always been a strong point of appeal to me how MUCH there is to his character that so often goes under the radar or unexplored, and how he's very often portrayed as just some handsome looking guy as opposed to a hybrid etc. He's not at all extravagant yet has mastered his craft of bending fate in his favor, he so often has things perfectly under his control just as he wants them, etc... reflective of the name "Theiophytalia" even if you wouldn't think such a dinosaur to sport one of the most prolific names a dinosaur can have. Also garden something something flower husbans. Basically whatever Bree's take on Scott is lol. I don't wanna blab for 5 paragraphs about that blue mf here but. I hope this makes sense

Jimmy - Yinlong

I struggled with this mf the most because he's another very hashtag deep character. I felt really bad to remove his bird motifs completely because the canary is so essential to him, but a raptor nor a pteradon fit my image of him at all. I spent so much time looking into various species but it just aint it, but Yinlong was possibly quilled and we can still cover him in feathers, even if he has nothing close to wings haha... BUT ANYWAY. Yinlong is a small kind of pathetic looking dinosaur, and Jimmy definitely isn't small but he'd sure be made to feel that way. Yinlong translates to "Hidden Dragon" however, a rather thought-provoking name for such a dinosaur. Given his character, it sure does feel like there's a soul of a dragon laying dormant somewhere in him, buried by all the self deprecation and curse labels. Honorable mention to Tianyulong, a very similar dinosaur who was named after a museum, but "Tianyu" also translates to peace and content. Something that Jimmy can't yet but deserves to be

Etho - undefined raptor

Already made a loong post about raptor Etho haha which I assume yall have seen since the support towards that post is the only reason I'm even making this post

Skizz - Olorotitan

"Titanic Swan" close enough to an angel right. I feel the whole angel thing is a bit overdone when Skizz can become a malicious little creature every now and then, but swans much like angels do get viewed as beautiful and taken as symbolism of love. Much like Skizz is largely viewed as an angel and often as someone who can do no wrong. But mostly I wanted Skizz to be a hadrosaur/duck-billed dinosaur, because those are dinosaurs known for their speculated vocalizations. And what is Skizz good at? Talking and voicing his love and appreciation? Yeah? Yeah... I'm so sorry Skizz btw this hybrid idea does not work out

Again, a lot of these don't work so well as hybrids... Some like the long-neck ones I cant imagine to have more than a spiky spine back and a tail, but! These picks aren't based on hybrid potential but rather what I think genuinely fits. I did really work on this all day looking through a bunch of dinosaurs and research haha, but I do love dinosaurs a lot... If you disagree with any hey thats cool! okay so i've been just absolutely brainrotting over this for like weeks now and its time to finally post it!

i've basically just been compiling songs that i think fit each of the life series winners, and they're either songs i've seen work really really well in animatics already or songs that would probably work really well, but are less popular or not associated with this fandom (yet)

i'll be linking+listing them here as well as providing little snippets of explanation for why i think the song fits, but i don't feel like making actual spotify playlists or smth, so if anyone else wants to do that, be my guest.

ofc i still had trouble finding good songs for some of them- if anyone seeing this has a good idea that i missed, lmk and i'll update these posts (no promises tho)

2. A Big Day for Grimley - AJJ: this one is because of this animatic, and also the lyrics fit the characters almost too well

I came back to the desert, and the desert came into me And now there’s a quietness, and it’s deafening (returned to the desert for the final duel, and now that he's the only one left, the absence of his partner is deafening)

3. Take Me to War - The Crane Wives: i know that everyone and their mother has done desertduo crane wives, but i've yet to see anyone use this song, which is a shame since its one of my favorites!

4. Community Gardens - The Scary Jokes: this is watcher!grian again, sorry not sorry- i do have a really vivid image in my head of an animatic for this song tho (the brainrot goes deep, i cannot escape)

Full disclosure, I am a monster A creature of despair, not that that should be a cause for concern (its so watcher coded im gnawing on the walls)

You'll be fine, you honeycomb Who could ever hurt you? Who could be so cold? You'll be fine, oh, honey pie Who could ever hurt you? Who could be so unkind? (ok so remember when i said i had an animatic idea about two sentences ago? ya. so i imagine this part as watcher!grian going through and causing the final deaths of all the winners (except scar we'll get there i promise) for instance, smiting scott at the end of LL, severing pearl's soulmate string in DL, and checking the time left before killing martyn in LimL)

The culmination of man's mistakes came the day The sun ran so hot, it turned the desert to glass (this is the whole "hail mary" thing where they blew up the whole desert and still didn't kill anyone)

If there's something to be learned from all these losers It's that the price that you pay For arrogance and a false sense of immunity Is to face the wrath of a dying star (false sense of immunity is scar's no kill passes, reputation points, etc., which really didn't mean all that much in the end (see: Bdubs))

5. Passerine - The Oh Hellos: aside from the obvious bird symbolism (passerine are songbirds), the overall theme of this song fits the character pretty well! (i think it could also apply to DL jimmy if you squint)

You were the song that I'd always sing You were the light that the fire would bring But I can't shake this feeling that I was only Pushing the spear into your side again (3L typical desert/light/sun/fire imagery, with a bonus helping this time of 3L typical self doubt and/or survivor's guilt! you love to see it)

My palms and fingers still reek of gasoline From throwing fuel to the fire of that Greco-Roman dream Purifying the holy rock to melt the gilded seams It don't bring me relief, no it don't bring me nothing (more arson what can i say- also the hollow existentialism that comes with killing your friends)

6. Do It All The Time - IDKHBTFM: yeah i know it doesn't seem like it fits at first, but i think parts of it captures the spontaneous silliness of 3L pretty well

No reason why I'm only doing anything I want to do Because I do it all the time We're taking over the world A little victim-less crime (making monopolies (or trying to) really just because)

I'm too lazy to draw most of this out and im really bad at writing so just bare with me on this cuz i wanted to attempt now that you gave me this

The Red Parrot, after getting his watcher magic do its thing, flew past areas he wasn't familiar with at all, holding a man on a wheelchair, somehow he was the one directing the parrot where they should go-

"See in this map? riiight here, a snowy area" He pointed continuously as if the Bird can fully see as he was busy flying, making sure he doesn't hit something. "Scar, there could be a lot of snowy areas around here, how are you sure we're going to the right one" "Because I trust Jellie on this! See? She left a mark for us to travel to and- actually I think we're close by!"

Cold Breeze started to blow at them, He was right, they seem to be in the right biome, even the marker was going just in the right direction.

"Look! Some kind of Civilization! over there Grian! I see Jellie!!" With keen eyes he saw a white-grey cat in the area- he's called Hawkeye HotGuy after all. They landed on what seemed to be Stone Brick Floors, Gently placing the wheelchair bounded man. Grian quite surprised with the buildings created he looked around, while Scar had just picked up his cat.

"Should we call out for him?" Scar asked, "I don't think it's all that safe but we could try" Grian replied, they started to yell out "Hello! Anyone Here?"

"Uh, Tubbo I think we got sum visitors"

"Oh really? At this time? What do they want" The goat boy approached his Half Enderman Husband who was by the window, squinting and looking at the visitors. Tubbo, now having a clear view, can see who those visitors are

"OH MY GOD OH MY GOD-" He started to run to the ladder and climbed down as quick as he can, The Enderman was surprised but worried his husband was to fuck up his step "TUBBO BE CAREFUL-"

Tubbo barged the doors open to outside "GUYS !! GUYS IM HERE IM HERE!!" he yelled, quickly getting the attention of Grian and Scar who seemed pleased with seeing their Lil bee boy out and about

"Tubbo!" Grian and Scar happily plea, They approached him as he approached them, but somewhat stopped in their tracks, noticing something off about him

"Hi Guys! This is Snowchester, Glad you guys didn't get lost, but I mean Jellie did help with your travels"

Scar looked behind him and continued to talk, knowing The Parrot was too shocked to speak

"Yeah! but Oh my gosh Tubbo what happened to your face :(! You look cool but... Oh man"

"Oh um... this? I know it looks really fucked- but um, A lot has happened while I've been here"

I HAVE to mention build swap era grian’s channel in fics i am physically unable to keep them out because it’s just so good especially in watcher aus espexially in MY watcher aus

Like in mine I see it as the watchers are kinda like the jedi from star wars where they find kids who would work well as watchers and kidnap children ask parents to give up their kid for the greater good.

Grian and all the build swap judges + Taurtus are all kidnapped children who work to keep the universe in check and make sure players move on with their updates (even though they can do it without them).

The watchers realm exists outside of time and space in the end realm. Watchers become immortal once they’re strong enough to grow their wings and fly and learn their magic, but until then they’re kept only in that realm unless it’s to go to a creative world to train. So the kids grow up not knowing anything different until they start working as watchers.

That’s when Grian starts to realize after MANY years that the watchers aren’t all that good despite them trying to be. And they won’t ever change and anyone who tries to change them gets killed. “It’s for the best” is what they say.

BUT OH MY GOD. BUILD SWAP BEING ON FANFICS, MENTIONS OR AUS IS LIKE MY FAVOURITE THING EVER I miss it so much

build swap has ALOT of potential for worldbuilding too.... i love when fics make the servers like small little worlds and make servers like hypixel or mentions other servers and hubs and and ITS SO GOOD and the watchers being part of it also makes other servers like EVO more relevant, was EVO just a test by the watchers? and why?

I REALLY like this ideas, about type of star wars stuff- they just steal children and they train away from all contact with other players or servers... that sounds EXACTLY like something they would do

to be honest, im not that big of a fan of the watchers being strictly this horrible and evil gods who will fuck you over and over just becuse of #EVIL and #EDGY

I like to see watchers as instead of pure evil creatures that cause chaos and want to 'control' everything, as gods who simply don't understand humanity and perhaps accidentally dehumanize all those children they steal because they dont understand how humans players feelings work

and with this,, accidently, maybe in the progress traumatizing these children who have no idea how questionable it is since they always lived in this environment

pearl also being a watcher is also one of my FAVOURITE headcanons, with the skyduo being siblings it just go PERFECTLY and with this i bring:

grian showing pearl she can also live and be free like they never could with the watchers,'they never considered themselves and their feelings, him showing her sister all this new stuff out of that black and white ideals the Watchers would tell them about

oh look i wrote a fic about this.

it hadn’t taken too much time for Xisuma to find the server id after that. The original intent for going to dsmp was simply to tell Tommy’s loved ones that he was alive and well, and possibly allow a few of them to go visit him, but now there was a mission of greater importance.

as soon as grian logged in to the server he could feel the lack of magic, it was worse than he had imagined. The communicator began to buzz with messages asking what the intruder’s business was on the server. grian reached to type a response before grian heard someone behind him

“what do you want, bird boy?” Dream asked with a irritated and slightly mocking tone. grian had met dream a few times before, particularly an instance in which he had managed to win a fight against dream, which he guessed dream was still salty about. “I don't just let anyone waltz in here.”

“I want to talk to Philza.”

“sorry, your out of luck bud. I don't know where he is. if that's all you came from then leave.”

“then I want to talk to wilbur.”

“really? well I guess I haven't bothered him in awhile. what's in it for me?”

“nothing. I just wont leave until I get to talk to him.” Dream studied grian for a bit. 

“fine. I’ll give you his coordinates. you have two days,you better be gone by then.”

“deal.”

Grian waited as Dream typed Wil’s coordinates. as Grian flew off dream smirked, wondering what grian’s reaction to seeing an actual ghost would be.

as grian flew he opened up his communicator, and sent a private message to phil.

Grian: hey, I wanted to talk to you about some stuff

Philza: what?

Grian: a lot of things actually.

Grian: firstly, I know where tommy is. 

Philza: you better be telling the truth. i’ll send you some coordinates we can meet up at and talk about this. I wouldn't put it past Dream to read the private messages, especially ones from someone he didn't invite on.

grian swerved to fly to the coordinates phil had sent him. he landed. it was a small clearing in the middle of a forest. Philza was already waiting for him.

“you must be Grian”

“yeah nice to meet you, I guess.” Grian said awkwardly.

“so, You know were Tommy is?” Philza asked. he seemed a bit nervous for grian’s answer, but hopeful at the same time.

“yeah. he showed up on my server a few months ago. I came here to let you know he was okay. he didn't want people worrying about him.”

“how is he?”

“he’s good. getting better every day.”

“that's good to know thank you.” Phil said with a smile. “I probably shouldn't keep you here, i understand if Tommy doesn't want to see me.”  Phil turned and began to walk away.

“wait, there’s something else I wanted to say.”

“what?” Phil asked turning back to face grian. the was a tear falling down his cheek which he brushed off.

“I-” Grian hesitated, trying to figure out how phrase it. He had gone over this moment in his head for years. “I’m your son.”

“what? how?” 

“im Wilbur’s twin. Ochav knew you might want to take Wilbur, so she never told you about me. I have been looking for you for years” there was a moment of silence between the two as Phil decided whether to believe grian. He certainly looked the part, and Phil hadn’t shared Ochav’s name with anyone, and wilbur probably didn't remember it in his current state.

“I-” Phil hesitated, then hugged Grian wordlessly. “im sorry.”

“why?”

“so many things.” Philza said, stepping back away from grian.”sorry that you had to grow up without me. sorry that you had to be the one to take care of Tommy. I'm sorry that after you searched for so long Wilbur is dead.”

“no, he’s not.”

“yes he is.I killed him. he went insane and begged me to kill him and now he’s a ghost.”

“no, he’s not. there isn't enough magic in this entire world to turn someone into a ghost.”

“then how do you explain what he is. how do you explained what happened to him?” Philza said.he looked like he was on the verge of tears.

“Watchers can’t die Phil, not even half watchers like me and Wil. the universe wont let them. he’s like that because there is barely enough magic in this intre world to sustain a watcher, let alone enough for him to regenerate.”

“Really?” Again Phil’s voice was filled with relief.

“Yes. this world has just enough magic to support on watcher. alone. not one watcher and 20 humans, let alone a watcher who was trying to regenrate.I know both of wilburs parents have wings, he would have to have them too. but he doesn't. I know that means they got cut of at some point and his body was trying to regenerate that when he couldn't even get enough magic to properly survive. in a place like this that would be enough to drive someone insane. If you aren’t able to feel how little magic there is here then wilbur doesn't know that either. it must have been like suffocating without knowing you needed to breathe.”

“oh. Is there anything we can do to fix it?” 

“theoretically if we take Wilbur someplace with more magic then he should be able to regenerate.”

“then we should. what about the server you come from if you live there there must be enough magic.”

“yeah. Id like to see Xisuma try to prevent me from bringing Wilbur to hermitcraft now. come on, Dream gave me Wil’s coordinates.”

as they flew Phil muttered to himself about how he was such an irresponsible father to let all of this happen.

when they landed at logstedshire the sun was about to set, the sky painted with shades of bright purples and pinks and oranges.

“hello? Wilbur?” grian called out. he waited a bit before a translucent man fazed through the wall of the dirt hut he was in to say hello.

“hi. Im ghoustbur.” he said in a sad tone. “have I met you before? you look kind of familiar. hello phil.”

“hello, my name is Grian although you probably don't remember me, i'm your twin brother.”

“nice to meet you I didn't know I had a twin. sorry I dont remeber you”

“actually, about that. I want to take you somewhere you can get better.”

“you mean become Alivebur? cause I don't want to. i've been told he wasn’t very nice.”

“Tommy’s there.”

“Tommy? Dream said he was dead.”

“he’s not. he’s where I live, do you want to come?”

“I guess so. I bet tommy misses me.” 

“then come on. Normally I would teleport us but there isn't enough magic so we are going to need to go to spawn and teleport from there.”

“are you sure?” Phil asked. “me and wilbur aren't exactly allowed near there.”

“yes. Its getting dark though so people aren’t going to notice us if we fly really high, and it doesn't matter what altitude we are at to teleport to another server.”

“I guess I should go now.” Phil said, getting ready for take off.

“one more thing.” Grian said, handing a letter to Phil. “Tommy told me to give this to you. I’ll try to get in contact with you as soon as possible.” Phil nodded then flew away into the darkening sky.

Grian and wilburs trip to spawn was uneventful. wilbur talked a bit about how excited he was to see tommy but quieted down as they got closer to spawn.

when they reached spawn grian began to cast the spell that would take them to hermitcraft. spells do happen not to be the most direet thing, both visually and to anyone who was sensitive to magic. Dream ended up flying up to see what was going on as grian was finishing the spell.

“what are you doing?”

“leaving, like you told me to.” Grian said, activating the spell.

so, au: hermittommy+wilbur&grian=twins, later on X has decided to find Tommy's dad, and is asking for a bit of info on him and tommy's brothers. after tommy tells him his dad's and wilburs name, X pulls up a picture of Phil and wilbur when Wil was 3. tommy asks why X has a picture of his dad and brother lying around, X answers "this is a picture of grian's dad and twin brother that he hasn't seen since he was 3"
