He must admit confusion as to how your belief in the cowardice of those who fear greywash is relevant, however. Although this knight has never had to face greywash himself, he has friends upon both Bo and Free Sanjak who have lost homes and loved ones to weaponized nanites, and it seems a perfectly understandable fear.

I believe that all those who are so frightened of graywash are cowards, frankly. My beloved Ashana and I are celebrating our ten year anniversary today, and I find no fear in our relationship!

My Monarch seems to be slowly growing a coat of Greywash. You have any idea why?

[Brigand}-Well, first I'd like to thank you for reaching out, gives me a distraction from the repairs and consideration of my options. Now your... "situation" isn't entirely unheard of. But this is likely one of two things, although greywash is more an art than a science really, or perhaps both? It does tend to lean into the paracausual at times...

Option 1 - Balor License Gained! Now given your history and favourable stance towards 'ungratefuls' I find this unlikely. But it is TECHNICALLY possible some HORUS cell has somehow hacked your Monarch, or its printer if you've reprinted recently or done any upgrades recently. In doing so they could have seeded your codebase with greywash conversion procedures. All your work for the people could also be paying off, and you've been "rewarded" with a very rare HORUS License. If this is the case, the greywash your experiencing is only the first symptom. But if left unchecked could result in a full disassembly of pilot and mech into a greywash swarm. If you're lucky though, in a few months time you'll be piloting a Balor. Again, given your history, I find this very unlikely. Option 2 - Orochi Syndrome. Now this is something of an assumption on my part but I'm guessing it's not actively consuming your Monarch? If you've been operating in a particularly dirty or dusty environment. Or if your recent engagements have been particularly gorey and/or violent. It's entirely possible some rouge greywash has found your mech and is feeding on any dirt or detritus coating your Monarch. See there's a strange thing that happens when enough machines gather sometimes called "swift-flock phenomenon". They form an intelligence, on rare occasions to the level of a full NHP. This does not sound like they've quite reached that point. This being a rare thing already, it is more common in subalterns than in nanites.

Solutions: Feel free to do all or none of these, like I said, greywash is freaky funky and difficult to control at the best times; I've best heard it described as liquid locusts. First off I would recommend a full reprint of your Monarch, have someone scrape your codebase as well. Make sure it's not a returning issue. Next, check your license history, omninet history. Comb over all of it for anything out of the ordinary, anything HORUS coded.

If this reveals nothing or you are unable to do any of this for whatever reason. Try a deepclean of your mech, you'll want to be careful. If you provoke the greywash it may enter an active state and start to consume your mech. I'd recommend a light acid bath, just enough to discourage the greywash without any lasting damage to the mech.

Alternatively, see if you can't communicate with it. It may want something from you, or you may be able to reach an accord. Perhaps you can load it into ordinance and give it a new meal.

Hope this was of use to you, let me know how it goes, I am simultaneously interested in your route and result. And, now this is a tad much to ask, but if you could get a 'live' sample of the greywash I'd love to take a look at it...

Sounds like you may have had an encounter with a rogue Cornicen! They're a type of autonomous capital ship first pioneered by the Janus Combine (where other vessels of this type get their name). Janus Cornicens are controlled by an advanced COMP/CON, but because they are less a ship and more a floating greywash hive they can be artificially or accidently created with destructive results. A rogue or cascading NHP connected to a vessel with greywash systems is the most common cause for this sort of Cornicen, much as you have outlined.

Northstar Galactic Command (under contract with the House of Remembrance) recently had a hostile encounter with an artificial Cornicen near Gloria (DS-11), they are exactly as deadly as your report describes. We highly recommend any individuals who encounter a vessel of this type retreat immediately, including performing an emergency near-light ejection if needed. They are extremely dangerous and cannot be bargained or reasoned with.

You are very fortunate that ACS assets were in the area. Even with near-light drives rescues can often take weeks or months to arrive! For this reason we strongly recommend arranging an escort before departing, especially if you are traveling in dangerous regions of space. As a final note, GALCOMM strongly recommends against biological personnel entering or connecting directly to legionspace, especially during hostile action. Organic consciousness was not intended to experience that level of information exposure, even with filtering from allied NHPs. Commanders attempting to gain advantages in upcoming actions by communing with the fleet legion often report long-term psychological effects as a result of the experience. The danger is vastly increased in combat. Electronic weapons are intended to scramble and overload legioned NHPs operating on naval hardware with multiple layers of cyber defense and minimal processing restrictions. They are so powerful that a standard conscious can be overwhelmed simply as collateral damage, resulting in total brain death.

Either people might have mistaken it for Vriska or that people think his crossdressing as a way to trick Tavros is offensive to actual trans people and crossdressers. Whatever the reason, it probably is still dumb as censoring the body horror. Surprised nobody thought of the implication that what Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff did was racist if anything. Like putting on grey paint to imitate the trolls. That's graywashing when you think about it. Calliope has done it too. Cosplayed as a troll by using grey skin paint. But she never asked Karkat or anyone else if it's okay that she can do that. She's being racist whenever she uses her trollsona.

It has come to my attention some people don't think the Taraxacum is real. It is! Shadow of the Wolf is an upcoming (official, Massif Press) book being worked on by Katherine Stark of Legionnaire fame. You can find the playtest materials on the pilot.net Discord.

It contains three new alt frames:

The IPSN Taraxacum: a Lancaster alt based around scan/lock on. Also it can fly and can airlift friendlies, ignoring the usual carry restrictions for flying. You're the eye in the sky. If you ever wanted to be the command and control node and/or the ominous looming mothership, this is your frame.

The HORUS Hecatoncheires: a size 1/2 Balor alt that uses mobile greywash swarms that provide cover for allies and burn enemies. Like the Balor, the Hecatoncheires is kind of a formless greywash guy but instead of regeneration etc it's more about turning into the smoke monster from Lost. Really likes being in cover, which its core system drones can provide. Less of a tank than the Balor, more of an assassin.

The HA Tagetes: a Sherman alt frame that turns any ranged weapon into a rifle. You wanna crack shot with Gandiva Missiles? A Siege Cannon? Now you can, bud. Also gets a fancier version of Stabilize. An artillery mech, it's almost more like an HA take on the Death's Head rather than the more balanced frontline Sherman – this is your dedicated infantry marksman mech. And yes, I know what you're thinking, you can Crack Shot with the Tachyon Lance. Did I mention all its ranged weapons gain Overkill? That between Crack Shot and Nuke Cav – on a mech with decent heat management tools – you can pretty reliably throw out 4D6 energy + 8 heat with Overkill per shot?
