Poor Poor Pitiful Me

I was sick with a chest cold the week before Christmas, and the day after I decided driving up to Michigan for the week between Christmas and New Year’s was probably a bad idea. Ms. Greyfan was particularly looking forward to the trip but has some health issues that preclude her driving, especially all alone, and so she lined up a flight and left me behind. I drove her to the airports and waved goodbye, skipping the kiss to avoid contamination.

I don’t feel as horrible as I, but the recovery is slow and it was the right choice. Because I didn’t expect to be here, there was nothing on my calendar, not even meals. I’m the cook, she’s the bottle washer as a rule. I hastily put together a list of several meals we never have because she doesn’t like some of the things I like (peas and lima beans, for example) and so I am enjoying some rare treats. I won’t go into detail, because some of them are fairly disgusting to the average person. Okay, it’s spam. I like spam. Sue me.

So now I’m just sitting around trying not to wear myself out and get better. A little dulcimer, some reading, some writing, taking care of the dogs, and naps. Mostly naps.

Just finished working on a computer project, getting ready for bed, and by force of habit I checked the calendar for tomorrow’s schedule. Nothing on it but dinner, which will be tamales right out of the can. Maybe a salad. I’m going to keep it that way, rest and recover.

Sometimes even when life is bad, it’s good.
