A new episode of the Dance it Out Podcast is out today where my friend and I are joined by fellow Grey’s Anatomy fan and former nurse Tammy Plunkett as we rewatch and talk about Season 1 Episode 4 ‘No Man’s Land’, how Grey’s Anatomy compares to the real life experience of practicing medicine, and the feminism of Izzie, Cristina, and Meredith’s storylines. Grey’s Anatomy (15x18): 8

I really liked this episode. All of the storylines were interesting and entertaining and all of the people that I care about were happy, Merluca had a good scene and Owen got roasted which is bonus points in my book.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine (6x11): 6

This weeks episode was good. It wasn’t anything super special or hilarious and kind of predictable but still really good. I loved the wholesome moments with Rosa, Holt, and Jocelyn. Jake’s character development was on point in this episode and Charles was hilarious. I didn’t really care for the Terry-Amy book storyline because it kind of just felt like they didn’t really know what to do with the characters and it didn’t really go anywhere, just kind of the same thing over and over.

Whiskey Cavalier (1x04): 15

I. Love. This. Show. This episode especially. It was so perfect and had a few really funny moments too. The scenes between Will and Frankie really stole the show, though. I liked the banter between Standish and Jai and we got to learn more about Susan (my queen) which was great. The scene between the general’s daughter and her fiancé on the runway was amazing and I genuinely had no idea how it was going to end. Amazing. Also the fashion and hair was SOOO good in this episode. Will’s suit and all of Frankie’s outfits... I can’t even. Awesome episode.

Cristina has still not improved on her bedside manner. As someone who has stayed with a loved one overnight at a hospital, I can say the early morning wake up is brutal.

Nurse Liz totally has Cristina’s number.

I was so mad and thrown at Izzie’s patient’s attitude at first. Then, I was like, oh, poor guy. How awkward.

Was the prostate biopsy giving anyone else Pap smear feels or was it just me?

Ugh, Limp Harry, you’re the worst.

Nurse Liz caught on to Meredith’s BS too.

Ouch! Ellis remembers Liz but not her own daughter.

That Bethany Whisper locker room scene - wow, just wow.

Does anyone else feel like Alex doesn’t seem like a main character yet? His role seems very one note and minute. It seems like he’s just there to be the “villain.”

I feel like maybe Kyle and Alex was really friend as kid that’s what it looked like ! Building a tree house being a good team they seems really close at the time Which is kind of heartbreaking 😱

Their dynamic honestly kills me. I think it’s pretty clear that Kyle and Alex were very good friends. Hearing their pre-fall out stories and seeing that they’re the only two boys in the human gang, I would even say they were best friends. Until of course, Kyle became a dick and things changed. That was awful of him, and while I stan Kyle, I hate how he handled finding out his friend was gay. I hate that he had this asshole bullying phase in high school. But I am also extremely glad he grew out of that and became a good man. We can see that his remorse and regret is real. 

I also feel like Kyle regretting his actions towards Alex is not a new thing. I think Kyle might have wanted to apologize to Alex for a long while now but he was too scared and ashamed to face him again. Imagine having bullied your once best friend, who is now a war hero back at high school. And a part of him also probably thought Alex never wanted to see him again. In 1x05 he says “Then I’ll take off.” like he knows his presence is unwelcome in there. This also adds a new layer to when he defended Alex in 1x03. He was so upset that Manes would think Alex was faint of heart and I feel that particular feeling of disappointment and even disgust, was not directed just towards Manes but himself too. I like how in 1x04 he tells Papa Ortecho “I was a dumb kid. I wouldn’t have liked me either.” It’s a little thing and it was added for humour, but I like how that sort of shows what he now thinks of his past self. 

I am still not sure when exactly Kyle began to amend his ways but I feel it was quite early on, maybe after he and Liz broke up? Maybe towards the end of high school? Because of what Liz said in 1x04 “You’re one of the best people I know”. I don’t think she would have said that just from being back in Roswell a few short days. But then she also said he was nice to her all the time and a jerk to others, so maybe there’s not much to think on that. Maybe he had always been his non-jerk self with her. A part of me really wishes we can see the journey of how Kyle grew into this good person (sorta like Alex Karev in Grey’s Anatomy) because that’s the kind of development I’d die for. 

I would like for Kyle and Alex to become close again and for Kyle to do everything he can to make Alex feel like he could trust him again. I want Kyle to prove himself to Alex over and over that he has changed. And I just need for more Kylex in my life because yes, the more I think about them, the more my heart breaks for them. And I just want both of them to be happy.
