im sorry for bothering u but im confused what kin means in this context (from the post u reblogged with someones commentary on ur art). if it is not too much for u and have the time could u explain what it means? (if u don't want to that is ok too!!) i hope ur day and mood brightens bc u r a very nice person and an amazing artist. (ur ansh fanarts and ocs are the best i especially love ellis, ren and gretta also tiny children my heart cannot take their cuteness let me hug them all)

no no it’s totally fine! I don’t mind explaining! First, quickly, I’m not angel kin, or kin of any kind, so my understanding of them is not going to be entirely accurate. Angel kin specifically are people who believe themselves to have been angels in another life, essentially. There’s a lot of blogs dedicated to collections of angels, winged people, and just that overall aesthetic. On top of that they talk about their experiences in their previous lives and things of that nature. 

Now, I’m totally cool with that. Be angel kin, be whatever kin, just as long as you don’t hurt other people in the process. The problem lies with people taking away the context of my (and other people’s) artwork and using it to represent something about themselves. I’m not cool with that. My OCs all have a little bit of me in them, so for some random person to say “Oh, this is me” to a picture of Ellis, who I have spent around 5 years developing, who has some of my deepest insecurities as his base personality traits, is more than a little uncomfortable for me. In fact, it’s a bit violating.

Honestly that post did have some good points that I might consider later on, but that’s not really the point. In this case, somebody reblogged art of mine, that has nothing to with angels, and made it about their own experiences with complete disregard to the context that was already there. On top of that, they gave critique on how I drew the piece in terms of how having a child ride on the back of a winged person would not have worked. I didn’t ask for any critique, which makes it doubly disrespectful. I doubt they meant any harm by it; I don’t really have anything on that piece that indicates that it’s about my OCs, and in all technicality if I was applying more science to how my bird people are supposed to fly, they are completely right. But at the end of the day, they still took something that wasn’t their’s and made it about them, and that is the bigger problem here.

(they have since apologized and we are cool now)
