GOD i forgot how frustrating Grelbin was. who decided to have EACH hole/spawn point for the yetis spawn 4 in a row while also having more jump up around you so you end up fighting like 6 at a time????

My favorite was 2 hands down. It One easily has the greatest music, and three had a decent plot, but 2's challenge mode was a lot harder than 3's and I spent a lot more time playing it.

Boldan and Grelbin messed me up good as a kid XD Those damn yeti thingies...still have nightmares lol

Well,

Y’know how the typical structure for many Hollywood franchises is that the first one is fun on its own merits and didn’t necessarily have a sequel in mind, the second builds on the first satisfyingly but might end on a darker note, and the third is just like... everything? All of the things that can happen, happen? Wall to wall?

The H&H series is coming to a close. And we’re hitting as many tropes as we can as it winds up to the finish

Ainoqres was an ancient cruel king and pretty much everyone who’s gone to school has heard about his legends. For this reason he went by Serqonia and later Ainoqres, because if he told people his real name, everyone would think he’s a joke. He does plan on revealing his real identity at some point along with his magic.

Angela’s eyebrows furrowed at the knock on her door. She wasn’t expecting anyone, and truth be told she didn’t have a lot of friends who would come calling. So it was with caution that she approached the door and glanced out the peephole, jaw dropping in surprise when she saw who was on the other side.

Opening the door a crack, she poked her head out. “Ratchet!?” she asked in disbelief.

Sorry to hear that. My social circle is titchy and I don't have a job (busy with university), I'm only in contact with one of my friends. All the rest moved on ages ago. And I did sleep well last night, told you about my dream. I also have a headcanon that Angela Cross didn't live on Fastoon but that her mother moved away with her and her husband some time before the shitshow happened. It just felt oddly appropriate to me. What do you think?

Well tbf there's nothing wrong with that, though hopefully you can get a bigger one soon if it's what you want. And I could see that, I'm not sure if or how they survived on Grelbin but it's a decent explanation for why a Lombax wouldn't know nor question anything about her home planet.

Finished Ratchet 2, and on to challenge mode. Had a blast playing it, though revisiting it I do have a few critiques.

The ship controls are kinda weird? I don't think they're as bad as some say, but X to shoot is weird and moving the left stick is WAY too sensitive.

Meteor Gun. Nobody likes the Meteor Gun. Takes a cool unique weapon utilising the liquid ammo and basically turns it into a rock shooter.

I can see why the difficulty spike in the final third might feel jarring. It's appropriate for levels like Snivelak, but then you have stuff like Grelbin with the hordes of YETIs and Damosel with Protopets everywhere. Like... holy fuck suddenly you're dead without the shield charger in these levels.

The Thug Leader boss on Snivelak. It's not even hard, it's just so. Damn. Tedious. With a laggy emulator it's even SLOWER.

TBH all the main story bosses aren't that great, besides the arena ones and Giant Clank fights (the latter can take a while but it works well enough). They were just pretty easy for me, especially Angela. Even the final boss is kinda anticlimactic as many have said. It says a lot when the hardest non-arena boss is the secret one on Oozla, lol. I get some being easier at the start of course, but I defeated Angela in seconds, and Protopet is Protopet. Moment I got out the tetrabomb it was over for it.

Mostly a nitpick but the armour vendor feels introduced a bit late in the game?

Storywise it works well enough but REALLY not a fan of Qwark being the villain. In terms of foreshadowing him and tying into the larger series it works, but in doing so they basically let Megacorp off the hook for everything. I heard Qwark was added mid-development... it shows. Also yes, the Future saga fucked up big time by forgetting Angela and then awkwardly trying to address the fact.

Still though, it's a great game, even if it seems like it kinda needed a bit of polish (I've even heard people speculate there was a cut ship level before the final level since they mention heavy planetary defences). Thanks, capitalism. It improves on many things from Ratchet 1, there's loads of variety and things to do while feeling balanced (even the hypnomatic for something introduced so late feels like it fits in), and even if the main story is weaker than 1 the stuff less at the forefront with just how messed up Megacorp is, is great (and well much of it even is the focus... it's just Qwark). Also Steve Blum as the Thug Leader is great.

Happy month/day 9/4 time day!!!! This is one of the few pieces of music where I’d actually consider “9/4″ without breaking it down further to be the most intuitive way to write it. Huge thanks to the person who showed this track to me coincidentally one day before 9/4 time day so I could post this instead of the much less perfect thing I was going to post instead for it!

Some layers like the drums feel like alternating [4/4 + 5/4]-ish, but other parts go for a 3/4 + 3/4 + 3/4 grouping over it all, so I’m comfortable just not breaking it down and thinking of it as a really long bar of 9/4 personally haha, but you could definitely write it differently if you’re one of those people who absolutely refuses to have anything 8/4 or longer in the way you write things.

Nunavut Bay: If you could change one thing about your favourite Sly game, what would it be?

The gut reaction is to say ‘let me replay Sly 2 missions’, but there are other tweaks to be made. Maybe get a separate actress in to redub Neyla’s lines with an accent that makes sense

Maybe flesh out Neyla a little more in general? Arpeggio, too? Dunno. Don’t want to have too much of a good thing, either.

Blood Bath Bay: What (so far unseen) location would you like the series to visit?

Come to Ireland. Come to Ireland. I could (and will) make an entire post about this, but to keep it brief Ireland’s mix of ancient magic and modern tech could make for a really cool two-tone environment
