From YOGA SONG Chapter 16, “Yogatecture: Blueprint of Transformation” Physical asana is not just movement, it’s also the ground and heart of an embodied spiritual practice because asana is a moving prayer. Many people pray in church, in nature, in a building, or some other religious setting, but these prayers most often exclude movement. Prayer without the body misses spiritual embodiment, and if spirituality is not embodied in people, then where is it? Doing yoga, we learn to open our bodies in asana, and when doing so, we are also opening spirit, mind, consciousness, and the energy body. When yoga asana, and the practice of meditation open the physical body, all other aspects of the koshas follow; this makes asana an expression of gratitude and a moving prayer: a physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual action. Yoga-prayers are not asking for something; rather, they are our full mind, body, and spirit response to breath and life itself. “Asana is a sacred offering,” Iyengar wrote. He was right, but its a sacred receiving too, where yogis receive the benefits of embodying asanas, mobilizing prana, surrendering our cares, and focusing our monkey minds. In that way asana is prayer, and this prayer is a yoga song of gratitude for life. This is transformational – because it involves all aspects of the human being — and it’s the foundation of yogatecture. It's both the blueprint for yoga and the map to completion of the yogi. Advanced praise for YOGA SONG from Asana International Yoga Journal to be published on International Yoga Day, June 21, 2022 Asana Journal contributor Dr. Gregory Ormson is writing a book called Yoga Song. He's written several popular titles in the past for our readers, including "Enter the Master, Enter the Child," "Making Heroes," "By a Thread," "Truth Force on Your Mat," "Yogi, Heal Thyself," and "Release into Savasana." Here, words of endorsement from Dr. Yogananth Andiappan, esteemed yoga teacher, scholar, and leader of the Andiappan Yoga Colleges in India and Hong Kong. "Gregory Ormson is a well-known author, who frequently contributes to the Asana International Yoga Journal. He expresses his sense of humour, admiration for yoga, and love of motorbike through his poetry. This (Yoga Song) is fascinating and inspiring to read . . . it is apparent from the beginning of his writings that he loves yoga and that his view of the practice and discipline of yoga is extraordinary. I would like to highlight a particuar paragraph which stands out to me and shows his sincerity and deep connection to the practice. 'In the play of yoga, we invest all we are from the inside, here and now. The yoga we embody then becomes a defining storyline in our role. We are wise to invest in ourselves now, live it now, and find alignment within self.'" There will be a book review in the June 2022 issue of Asana Journal, which is dedicated to International Yoga Day. This video shows Dr. Greg playing the sitar with one of the his yoga songs lyrics. #nmualumni#uwlaxalumni#gregoryormson Updates @ gregoryormson.com (at Mesa, Arizona) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cdx-mLULXst/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

A paragrph from the full text (below) written originally as: “Endowed With Longing for Connection.”
Perfection in yoga may have been an ancient goal, and to achieve that goal many yogis spent time alone and in isolation; but I don’t know anyone with perfection on their bucket list. I’ve not heard anyone say, “Yea, I want to become the perfect yogi, to levitate, reach santosha, and become one with God.

June issue of Brown Bag Online called takes readers and listeners on a journey through the solar and lunar system in word and sound; it highlights the individual story - and music of each story - with the complicated tangle in the biggest of big pictures. Issue 3 is dedicated to Jackson Rose, described as an artist and open soul. Links to click in and listen to my narration and guitar in "Voices from The Woodland," a story about WOJB Radio from Reserve, Wisconsin, which Brown Bag has linked to Mercury. Issue includes other fine music, writing, and my narration of "Whale Song From the Corners of Eternity," a piece I wrote in Hawaii and its under link to planet Neptune in #brownbagonline. Text
At its core, writing is a risky disclosure because it reveals what we love; therefore, writers and their products are fragile and vulnerable. Our tender disclosure of precious stories is miraculous and audacious. We dare to concretize the fragile, and celebrate authors that remystify the banal. Out of it, Harry and Hogwarts are born while children find escape and adults reconnect with wonder.
