«Aida» in der Arena von Verona ist ein Erlebnis, aber man sollte schon wissen, worum es auf der BĂŒhne geht

«Aida» in Verona spielt auf einer BĂŒhne aus Glas, die zur Rampe hin abschĂŒssig ist, so dass man die ganze Zeit befĂŒrchtet, die SĂ€nger*innen mĂŒssten herunterrutschen. (Regie, BĂŒhnenbild, KostĂŒme, Lichtdesign, Choreographie: Stefano Poda). Eine riesige mechanische Hand, BruchstĂŒcke einer Maschine wie aus «Mad Max», echte Laser und Requisiten, die wie Laserschwerter aus «Star Wars» aussehen, verstĂ€rken das sterile, technische Design.
Ob es Generatoren oder Hydraulikpumpen oder Nebelmaschinen sind: Neben der unverstĂ€rkten Musik und der sportlichen Gesangsleistung der SĂ€nger*innen hört man immer auch NebengerĂ€usche der BĂŒhnentechnik, Brummen und Zischen. Das passt ganz gut als Soundeffekt zu der techno-futuristischen BĂŒhne, die ihrerseits einen Kontrast zu der antiken römischen Arena bildet.
Die Regie gestaltet Tableaus aus BĂŒhne, Choreografie und Licht, in denen man kaum ausmachen kann, wer gerade singt. Auf eine glasig-weiße Art schön sind diese Bilder, wenn auch nicht geeignet, um zu zeigen, was im StĂŒck gerade passiert. Wenn RadamĂšs (Gregory Kunde) verhindert, dass Amonasro (Amartuvshin Enkhbat) Amneris (Agnieszka Rehlis) ersticht und sich dann selbst der Palastwache ergibt, wird man das nicht am BĂŒhnengeschehen erkennen, sondern ist auf den gesungenen Text angewiesen. DafĂŒr gibt es auf LED-LeinwĂ€nden Übertitel in Italienisch und Englisch.
Wer mitliest, bekommt auch mit, dass Aida (Marta Torbidoni) und RadamĂšs gemeinsam lebendig begraben werden. Zumindest fĂŒr Aida ist das in Ordnung, sie hat eine romantische Ader. In Verona krabbeln sie dafĂŒr in eine kleine Pyramide aus Glas und ĂŒber ihnen scheint der echte Mond.

I thought it would be weird having a tenor Mephistopheles too but Gregory Kunde was AMAZING and served so much and in the end it wasn’t so strange because his voice really suited how Meph acts in this version.
It does drag a bit in the middle but it starts and ends strong.
