Moriarty is down bad for the detective, isn't he? Sucks that so many people don't see beyond his odd demeanour.
There was literally no other explanation for his characterisation. It wasn’t even subtext to be honest. It was canonically explained how Moriarty was obsessed with Sherlock, he was writing his name in the walls. Sherlock was the only thing keeping Moriarty from his suicidal tendencies. And he was so flirtatious at him, although him being a villain and all, it could basically qualify for harassment.
….
He told him “we were made for each other Sherlock” while almost simultaneously hitting on him as a regular gay guy.
Having said that, if memory serves me correctly, back in the day more casuals acknowledged Moriarty’s lust for Sherlock than, say, Johnlock. Sheriarty or Moriarty’s feelings in specific were mostly denied by fanatic Johnlockers, because it was an unhealthy ship but in truth also because it was a threat to the major ship. And I say this as a Johnlocker myself.
I who believed in both ships being canon often felt pretty alienated, everything was either black or white.

Mycroft Holmes (especially in the books) gives me aro/ace vibes. I've been thinking about this a lot. What about you?
I actually made a HC post a while ago where I said I see him and Mrs Hudson as aro-ace gossip pals!

Intimacy
Just when I am in the middle of my speech, I hear some sniffing in the wedding hall. I look up. Everyone is tearing up. I see some people wipe their eyes with the serviettes.
Why? Did I do something wrong? No! I had spent the whole morning writing a speech for John's wedding.
Selecting and altering the words here and there carefully, with Lestrade's help, so that I would not give myself away in a room full of two hundred guests, about my true feelings for the groom.
And now everyone is crying. I messed it up, again.
It is just like the university days. I would say something with good intention, but without any filters, and everyone would interpret it the wrong way. They would distance themselves from me eventually. I would be left alone.
I knew I was going to be left alone anyway after tonight's reception and dance. That was inevitable. I hadn't expected the isolation to come so soon, though.
Perhaps everyone had picked up on my feelings for John. I had ruined the day with a slip up somewhere.
Breathing deeply, I square my shoulders and spit everything out.
"What's wrong? What happened? Why are you all doing that?" I turn to look at John, the only source of sanity in my life. "John?"
John looks up at me with tearful eyes. (No, please don't cry!)
"Did I do it wrong?" I ask again.
"Oh, Sherlock!" Mrs Hudson is tearful too.
Shit. She knew about us. Me. There was never an 'us'. She knew how I felt for John. Everyone obviously knows about my feelings now. Nobody can be so stupid.
Which means John does too, and now he is going to kick me out in the middle of the speech.
John screws his eyes shut and opens them again as he gets up from his seat.
"No, you didn't. Come here," he says and pulls me close before wrapping his arms around my back.
A huge round of applause erupts in the room. Everyone is cheering.
Unsure of what to do next, I awkwardly place an arm on his bicep.
John doesn't let go of me. He keeps holding on to me, and his hand goes up to curl around my nape. He holds me gently.
In this moment, I cannot help but notice the intimacy between us.
I'm not experienced in romantic relationships, but the way John keeps holding me with so many people watching, I feel even closer to him than I already did.
It's rather ironic that I feel this on his wedding day, with his wife watching us with a smile. But I can't help how I feel.
"I haven't finished yet," I say.
"Yeah; I know, I know," he replies and slowly lets me go.
I immediately feel the loss of his touch. I long for him to hold me forever.
I know this is irrational, so I pull out my phone again to continue with my best man speech.
I still have to take care of my words, should I accidentally reveal my heart in front of the man I love in public.

May Prompts 2024
Dear Writers:
It's nearly May! The month of merry little thoughts, divine mistakes, and frivolous whims.
Time to set aside that fantasy trilogy that's been stuck in the mud all winter, the six-act tragedy in blank verse you've been labouring over--and write some random bits and bobs!
Visit your mind attic. Pull open the drawer where you hide your terrible ideas and scenes that are waiting for the right story. (I know you have such an attic and such a drawer because I do as well 🙄) Dig around— not with the idea of spring cleaning, which will only produce an empty drawer and a tidy attic— but because it's a treasure hunt.
Dust off the lawn furniture, put on your sandals, take your laptop outdoors. New environs, new inspirations.
The point is this: Last year* some of us wrote and shared a month of little daily fictions. There were drabbles and 221Bs and flash-fiction and mini-epics. There were prompts, which some of us used as a starting place, and sharing of minifics amongst ourselves, which led to more inspiration.
Wanna see some more?
I've been hoarding ideas since last year and am now opening that drawer. I plan to write a short something every day in May, and will share my words with whoever wants to be tagged. If you'd like a daily prompt, I will be supplying that.
No pressure. While some structure creates opportunity and creativity thrives within structure, this exercise is not meant to create anxiety or trigger your inner completionist. (My internal taskmaster is taking the month off.)
No judgement. No prizes for reaching 31, no awards for creativity, no certificates of participation. Just cheering one another on.
No rules. Use the prompt or don't. Write 100 words or 1000. Any fandom, any characters, any headcanon. Or your own original creation. Write every day or whenever an idea strikes. Share or don't.
No guilt. Fail gleefully, write terribly, get out of the boat and swim.
Correction. One rule: write some words.
*Credit goes to @notjustamumj for last year's inspiration. Eternal thanks for that idea!
Please reblog! I'm tagging a few people who participated last year or expressed interest, but I’m sure I’m leaving someone out. Let me know if you'd like to be tagged for prompts and sharing.

Sherlock fandom
Am I Dreaming?
Sherlock doesn’t know what’s real and what’s imagination anymore. Everything is a blur of sleep deprivation, thirst, hunger, and excruciating pain. Whenever his jailer and the torturists are leaving him alone, he sighs relieved, but he soon panics when he starts to think about their return. It’s then a vision of John appears before him.
“You can do this, Sherlock. Don’t you dare give up; you hear me? I need you to come home to me, alright? There, now, shh, I’ve got you. Stay strong, Sherlock. For me. Please.”
John’s voice is commanding at first, urging Sherlock to get a grip, but it always turns tender when Sherlock can’t hold back his sobs. He wishes John would touch him, so he could feel his warmth and be comforted by those steady hands that have healed him so many times. Before Sherlock jumped off a roof.
In the early days of his capture, Sherlock was able to see himself from above. Taking stock over his misery and the cell, desperately trying to find a way to escape. The longer he was jailed, the more his brain failed him. It became mushy, the sharp observation skills left him, and he was unable to soar anymore. His only comfort was John’s visits.
Sherlock knows he’s about to die. Before he met John, this wouldn’t have bothered him at all but now…now it’s an unbearable thought. Never to see John again? Not be able to explain why he had to jump. Why John couldn’t know that it was a magic trick. To beg John’s forgiveness. To tell John…
The door to his cell opens and Sherlock steels himself for whatever gruesome punishment the Serbians have installed for him. A familiar voice gives orders to someone. Sherlock’s eyes are blindfolded, but his hearing is still excellent. That voice…no, it can’t be. The person speaks Serbian, and to Sherlock’s knowledge, Mycroft doesn’t speak Serbian. Unless he’s learned it sufficiently enough to rescue Sherlock. No, that doesn’t make sense. Mycroft doing legwork? If Sherlock wasn’t so exhausted, he would’ve laughed. It comes out as a cough, which sends a sharp stab of pain through his entire body.
He must’ve blacked out, because when he wakes his cell is gone. At his right side there’s a small window. Sherlock’s brain is too dizzy to comprehend where he is, but he realises something. He is soaring again, but what he sees underneath is impossible. London. Sherlock is soaring above London!
“Am I dreaming?” he whispers and closes his eyes as tears start to form.
“Brother mine,” Mycroft says softly at Sherlock’s left side.
Sherlock keeps his eyes firmly shut. He can’t bear if this isn’t real.
“You are not dreaming, Sherlock,” Mycroft assures him.
Is his voice trembling?
Sherlock feels a hand on his shoulder. It’s warm. He opens his eyes and there he is, Mycroft Holmes, his arch enemy and big brother. They’re on a private jet, Sherlock discerns. Before he can ask, Mycroft lifts an eyebrow and nods.
“I will let him know.”
Sherlock sighs relieved and falls asleep while the tarmac comes into sight.

Hi!
Do you know why does Mycroft lie to John about Irene's fate in Karachi in ASIB?
Also, why does John say that Sherlock nearly despised her in the end when he clearly didn't? (I mean, this thing was the primary source of John's jealousy in the whole episode, wasn't it?)
All these weeks have been super crazy for me, sorry for this delay!
So, this was a question that really tormented me back in the day but I hadn't landed on a conclusion I deemed 100% safe. However, I am now leaning towards the realisation that we should take this scene at face value because Mycroft did NOT lie to John.
Mycroft waits outside 221B, hoping to meet John returning home. John is surprised to see him. Mycroft clearly is anxious to tell Sherlock himself: a) he can't decide which version of the story to tell Sherlock and b) he dreads that Sherlock might get emotional and he won't be able to deal with it. Given all the Eurus / Trevor context, we now know that Mycroft is terrified of how Sherlock will take the death of another person who is significant to him. We also know now that Sherlock considered Mycroft a terrible actor, which makes Mycroft even more anxious to lie in front of Sherlock. Mycroft points out that he neither smokes nor frequents cafes, making clear that he gets out of his way with all this situation.
Mycroft tries his story to John, Irene managed to get into a witness protection program in America. The fact that he uses promising speech like "She will survive... and thrive but he will never see her again", shows genuine sentimentality by Mycroft and not any mood for scheming. He asks John to convince Sherlock that he won't meet Irene again but at least she will continue having a happy life. There is no reason for Mycroft to say "she will survive and thrive" other than that he truly believes this would make Sherlock happy, as clearly neither Mycroft nor John cared whether Irene would survive and thrive. This is further proved by Mycroft's conviction that Irene was THE woman for Sherlock. He suspected that in the mortuary and he fully believed that when he told Sherlock "I drove you into her path. I am sorry. I didn't know (that you also like women)." Mycroft was effectively misled that Sherlock was in love with Irene. Of course Mycroft did not know Sherlock deciphered the email for John and not Irene and Irene did exactly nothing to correct his false impression. But this is why Mycroft is sorry. When John cedes to tell Sherlock, Mycroft tells him sadly that Irene is actually dead, and he does mean it as a truth This gives John a pause too, because even though he initially claimed Sherlock didn't care about Irene's fate, a finality like her actual death is something that even John fears it could sadden Sherlock. Mycroft is clearly lost and asks John what they should do.
If Mycroft wanted to mislead John, then he wouldn't ask his opinion. But, also, there's no reason for Mycroft to mislead John in this case. Whichever version was true, the result was the same; Sherlock and Irene would not meet again, so it's not like John had any antagonism, let alone that Mycroft wouldn't care so much about it. Besides, Sherlock and John had gone on with their lives normally during these two months, there was no reason for Mycroft to add a lie out of nowhere, especially since John seemed confident Sherlock despised Irene in the end.
So, the face value truth is:
John: Was it definitely her? She's done this before. Mycroft: I was thorough, this time. It would take Sherlock Holmes to fool me and I don't think he was on hand, do you? John swallows hard.
John Watson, always right. I understand that Mycroft sounds so suspicious here but perhaps it's a false perception because we know exactly this is what happened. However, it must actually be just tragic irony. Sherlock managed to fool Mycroft and he helped Irene disappear. Irene is NOT in a witness protection program in America. This is the lie Mycroft came up with because he thought Irene was dead. The only accurate information Mycroft has is that Irene was caught by terrorists in Karachi two months ago. Sherlock was secretly and independently following Irene's moves as he knew she was in mortal danger. He disguised himself as a terrorist, pretended to behead her and helped her escape while he confirmed her to be dead to the other terrorists. Since the terrorists believed her dead, this is the information that reached Mycroft. This means that after Irene fled, her and Sherlock's ways parted forever. Sherlock thought he paid her back, in a way, for her love.
It's interesting that John swallows hard when Mycroft doubts Sherlock could have saved Irene. He is pretty stone-faced throughout his encounter with Mycroft but now worry creeps in. Perhaps John remembered that Sherlock wasn't home for like a couple of days two months ago and deep inside John fears that Sherlock is the type of person who would run to Irene's rescue? He hopes he is wrong and he suppresses this momentary suspicion.
John is also torn about what to do. He hesitantly follows Mycroft's advice. Sherlock looks genuinely interested in what has become of Irene. He asks whether she's back in London, whether she's back on the game. This proves that they parted ways for good after her rescue and also that Sherlock didn't have anything to do with sending her to America or collaborating with Mycroft for it or whatever. No, Irene's traces are lost for good now. Neither Mycroft nor Sherlock know where she really is. When John tells him where she supposedly is, Sherlock appears a little surprised, but then mostly believes it if with a little hesitation. However, it seems that later Sherlock was able to decode Mycroft's lie as we see in "TSOT" that he says "God knows where she is". As a sidenote, Irene sends him a black rose when Sherlock is hospitalized in HLV. She is most likely pretty close to Sherlock, and certainly not in America, but she never shows up in Sherlock's life again.
Once he learns her case is closed, Sherlock shows disinterest in anything else, including the prospect of seeing her again. (He also does not wish to see her case file, as he knows everything inside it will be crap from the point of Karachi onwards.) Seeing this growing disinterest, John tries to tell him the "truth" just to not be a liar to his best friend since Sherlock doesn't care much anyway but Sherlock breaks him off and asks for her phone. John perceives this as a love gesture and eventually doesn't tell him what Mycroft told him.
Now, as to why John thought Sherlock despised her, I think that was mostly wishful thinking on his part. Sherlock had been played by Irene and this wounded his ego and then John chose to see everything in his reaction as evidence of Sherlock's anger. But this wasn't the case. John actually contradicts himself in front of Mycroft. I already wrote he looks pretty stone-faced, distant, he has a somewhat defensive posture. Mycroft tries to open up about Sherlock's sentimental nature but John shoots his attempt down. Perhaps it is too much for John at the moment to consider that Sherlock has emotions (and romantic ones), and especially to contemplate this in the presence of Mycroft. "He's not like that." "He doesn't feel things this way." "I don't know." And yet, in just the previous episode it's revealed to us that John thought and hoped Sherlock was a hero who wanted to do the good thing. And two episodes later, John confesses he thought Sherlock was the most human human being he ever met. So... his attitude towards Mycroft was closed-off, guarded and fake.

owwww oouchi ouch owww :(
@flashfictionfridayofficial
BBC Sherlock.
It is what it is
"I cheated on Mary," said John, as his eyes welled up, and in came the monologue to a non-existent person, presumably Mary.
Sherlock followed John's gaze and stopped at an empty corner of the sitting room of their flat. Well, his flat, technically, because John wasn't here anymore.
All he could conclude was that John was not okay.
"Who you think I am, is the man I want to be," John continued.
Sherlock turned to look from the empty corner to John's face, pressing his lips together with utter heartbreak. Sherlock had always admired John's medical skills, his combat skills, his sense of authority, his sense of humour, and the list could go on forever.
Mary was not even in the picture when Sherlock began to look up to him and admire him.
Was that not enough?
The image of John punching and kicking him in the ribs flashed before him. Of course it wasn't enough, thought Sherlock and chuckled mirthlessly in his mind.
Probably because he wasn't a woman, or not human enough for John's liking.
However, anyone with half a brain would laugh at the second possibility, given the fact that he wouldn't have been sitting on this chair if he hadn't revived himself that day, after getting shot by John's own wife.
When John buried his face in his hand and burst into tears, Sherlock thought it didn't matter anymore. He got up as carefully as he could with his wounded back to approach John slowly across the room.
Sherlock felt as though he was in a lion's den, and any wrong move could prove to be fatal. Still, mustering enough courage and physical strength, he approached John and carefully placed his right arm around John's shoulder, and rested his palm on John's nape. He placed his left hand on John's other shoulder and held him gently in his arms. Surprisingly, John not only allowed himself to be hugged, but he also placed his head on Sherlock's chest. Sherlock didn't care about his shirt getting wet because of John's uncontrollable tears.
As Sherlock continued to hold John like he was the most precious thing in the world, he came to a conclusion: perhaps he was wrong to put John on sort of a pedestal for all these years. John had a plethora of qualities, but seeing him through a rose-tinted lens most of the time had been an imperfect sign. An imperfect way of viewing this man.
Ironic, for someone who was a professional detective.
John wasn't perfect; he had a dark side too. The thought was oddly comforting.
Sherlock just wished he hadn't found this out the hard way. But his love for John was far too much to waver, even after everything.
Sherlock pulled John even closer as he buried his nose in John's hair, inhaling his natural scent. Their breathing rate had become in-sync.
Sherlock reluctantly let go of John after some time. John gazed up at him with his beautiful, deep blue eyes, dampened with tears.
Sherlock decided to share his conclusions with him. "It’s not a pleasant thought, John, but I have this terrible feeling, from time to time, that we might all just be human."
John raised his eyebrows at that with a faint smile. "What, even you?"
Sherlock was not amused at this taunt. "No."
John's smile faded and he just blinked at Sherlock wordlessly.
"Even you."
A moment passed. "Cake?" asked John, all of a sudden.
"Cake." Sherlock nodded.
As he walked across the room to grab his coat to go out with John, Sherlock decided that being John's friend again was the next best thing. The other option, the unthinkable one, was completely off the table now. It never was on the table for John.
Sherlock sighed heavily and wistfully.
Probably for the best, he thought, as he and John walked out of the apartment building to have some cake for his birthday.

Damaged goods
“Your anger and loyalty will catch up with you one day, and it’ll be your downfall,” John’s father told him when he came home bruised and injured after another fight protecting his sister.
“I don’t care,” John answered through gritted teeth while he cleaned himself up as best he could.
His father’s words hurt just as much as setting his dislocated shoulder, but John knew he would do it all again if need be.

“Brother mine, why won’t you tell me who did this to you?” Mycroft asked Sherlock, concern seeping out of his voice.
“I’m not a snitch, Mycroft,” a thirteen-year-old Sherlock spat.
Blood from his split lip created an interesting pattern on his white t-shirt, his left eye was swollen, and the trousers were ripped at the knees where more blood was visible.

Through the years both men considered themselves damaged goods, but when there was justice to be served, they fought. Fleeing was never an option.
Those two men met by chance according to John, but Sherlock always stated that the universe is rarely so lazy.
Whatever it was and however it came to be, they were a matched set. When they were together, they felt whole, their flaws were but trifles.
John’s father never witnessed his son’s loyalty being valued beyond measure, saving a man’s life just hours after he made his acquaintance.
Sherlock’s brother, however witnessed it all in amazement but also with a considerable amount of apprehension. But, as the years passed, despite his aversion to being wrong, he admitted, at least to himself, that he had miscalculated when it came to John Watson.
“He keeps me right, Mycroft,” Sherlock told him when Mycroft had expressed his disquiet.
And for once, Mycroft was glad that he had trusted Sherlock’s instincts.
