Light and Shadow, Pt. 1 - Cinematographer Ted McCord’s use of light and shadow is exceptional in dramatic interior scenes. He relies on the interplay of the two, rather than flattening the entire room/subject with the light source.

Happy 100th Birthday to Orson Welles! I am reposting my Citizen Kane reaction after watching it at Film Forum earlier this year. -------------------------------------Citizen Kane (Welles/41): Orson Welles would be 100 this year and @filmforumnyc celebrated in style with a full retrospective. Orson Welles and cinematographer Gregg Toland actually cut a hole in the floor to film the now iconic filming people from below sequence. Citizen Kane is a true masterpiece from a visionary. To be 25 and create this! The angles, the composition, the satire, the experimentalism, the collage of journalistic and dramatic segments, every element is worthy of admiration and study. Best seen on a big screen but holds up in any format. After all, Welles started on radio and knows how to tell a story. #OrsonWelles #CitizenKane #GreggToland
