Following a mass shooting at a Christian private school in Nashville, Tennessee, that killed three students and three staff members, right-wing media seized on the reported identity of the shooter to continue villainizing and dehumanizing the entire transgender community and labeling transgender people as a threat to society.

But in the right-wing echo chamber, transgender people are not only a major force behind mass mass shootings (there is no data supporting this), but they also represent a burgeoning domestic terrorist movement seeking to attack society from within. These false claims are a mirror image of right-wing media’s own long pattern of incitement against LGBTQ people, which has been followed by either near-silence or outright justification of anti-LGBTQ violence after it occurs.

In one example, a hoax claim from a white nationalist social media account, alleging that trans people were planning to kill Christians, made its way into Fox News’ prime-time programming, with star host Tucker Carlson presenting this obvious lie as if it had been a real threat.

In the wake of the Covenant School shooting, the right-wing media turned on the firehose of anti-trans hatred by vilifying an entire group of people due to the shooter being trans.

Ransom and Ivesro work to calm and organize the citizenry, and then look to the wild sorcery schools. Darius begins to find their place in all of this. Threadless constructs on several levels. Tasos tries to organize his found family and begins to extends the dreamscape.

Against the Monster Andrea Rick runs for Madelancholy, Robbie Boerth, and Sabine V. A story game about a monster hunt, the good of the monster, and the monstrosity of the hunters (currently crowdfunding on Kickstarter). We hunt a ghost in a desert and muse about loss, rage, and memory.

Ransom meets with representatives of the allied pantheon and extends his dominion. Tasos speaks with a scholar of souls and anoints his feline followers. Darius decides to build a shrine and looks to get interns. Threadless decides to build a dragon, or an angel, or both.

'Me', 'Gaston' and 'Be Our Guest' are all predominantly missing and recording stopped for some time after 'Gaston', which created a little jump in the timeline to where Maurice gets thrown out of the tavern. Still a nice video with great closeups of the last Broadway cast.

What's missing is: Grandma's song "We Go Dancing", the scene between Dad and Tony, the beginning of "Deep Into The Ground", and the scene between Mrs. Wilkinson and Dad discussing Billy's ballet. It appears the filmer was trying to conserve battery power and was trying to focus on Billy's scenes. DVD has been enhanced with main menu and thumbnail images for access to the various songs. A-

Very nice video of the show however a bar can be visible in wide shots but it doesn't interfere with anything.

NOTES: A fantastic capture of the second tour cast. This is the first known dvd of the 2NT, and the cast doesn’t disappoint. David and Cody are strong leads with great voices and comedic timing. Pierce is perfect as McKinley. Tallia also does a great job; she has a strong belt and does an endearing rendition of Sal Tlay Ka Siti. This is a very nice capture with no obstruction or blackouts, and only a bit of washout in superwide shots of high-contrast scenes. The video is very steady and the sound is excellent as usual. It’s filmed in 16:9 with a mix of wides, mediums, and close-ups. Includes curtain call.

Moore Lab AGU presentations

Sad that I’m missing the hallway conversations and the countless hours in the poster hall this year. But here’s what we have been working on this year.

Matt Roby is presenting work on the influence of atmospheric water demand on rain pulses in arid lands - even in deserts it matters how dry the air is after the rain.  You can also read Matt’s new paper that was recently published in AGU’s JGR Biogeosciences. 

Xueli Huo is presenting a paper on land surface modeling and data assimilation - we have assimilated a decade of satellite LAI estimates using the Community Land Model and the Data Assimilation Research Testbed. Correcting the LAI in CLM has huge impact on regional and global carbon, water and energy exchange. Especially large changes in the Arctic region. 

Hamid Dashti is presenting a poster on how changes in Arctic land use is linked to changes in land surface temperature - the analysis is looking at the links between expected changes in energy balance and the observed change in LST (corrected for inter annual variation in LST).

Happy to have been collaborating with Russ Scott from the ARS for the last several years - he is giving a talk on the links between carbon and water exchange in the desert SW, with insights from Kim Novick, Matt Roby, John Knowles, Joel Biederman and Greg Barron Gafford.  

More SW rain pulses in Charlie Devine’s presentation - he explains how to track the phenology of rain pulses in a closely controlled experiment (RAINMAN). Joel Biederman at the ARS is heading up that project. Matt collected some data from this project this summer to and a really nice testbed for some of the pulse models he’s been working on.
