How dare the realtors advertise that this incredible 1907 Victorian in Roanoke, VA is zoned MX and can be used as a business or medical office. I shudder to think of it renovated with neon lights, office cubicles and public toilets. The magnificent 7bd, 5ba, 6,020 sq ft home is for sale for $1.350m.
Wow, they must've spent years furnishing this home. Can you believe this? Can you imagine the holes there are in these walls?
The sitting room includes a breakfast table.
Wow, look at how the chairs match the wall. I rather like this green.
Colorful fairytale kitchen. I love this. If you look past all the stuff, you'll see that it's really quite simply done. There aren't any cabinets, just some shelving and a hutch.
Even the original pantry is an explosion of color. How are they going to pack all this up? It's staggering.
Back here, we have a sun porch. Wow. It's overwhelming.
I knew there had to be a 2nd sitting room somewhere. Here it is.
The 1st floor bath with a fancy commode seat for your guests.
Look at the fancy radiator. Even the hall with the service stairs is decorated to the nines. Who dusts all this stuff?
And, here we are on the 2nd level. They have a cute little office in this alcove. Nice that it has doors if you need privacy.
This must be the primary bedroom. Very nice.
Here's another nice bedroom. I like the black, red and yellow.
This looks like a walk-in closet.
The baths are so decorated they don't even look like baths.
Here we have what looks like a sewing room.
Stairs to the finished attic.
It's beautiful up here.
Bath- all the toilets are fitted with commode seats. I don't know, they look a little icky.
Is this a 4th level? So many decorated rooms! And, they're going to move all this stuff out?
Even the basement is packed.
Outside there's a pergola and lots of matching metal lawn furniture.
Large patio. Wow, I wonder if that coach will convey w/the property.
The lot is .27 acre. You can see the coach from the air.

New Fairly OddParents 'fic today!
50 Words of Dev and Hazel
📖 Read on FFN || Read on AO3
🌃 City Lights AU
✨ More Fairly OddParents 'fics
🎲 Randomlists.com's 50-word generator
50 scene snippets about a snotty rich boy (self-improvement in progress) and an anxious newcomer to the big city (Livin' big and lovin' life) - Set during "The Treble With Rivals" and the week following.
OR, Dev and Hazel go to Tokyo, say hi to Dev's mom, and Dev picks on orchestra kids because #Band For Life.
(First 5 prompts under the cut)
1. Zoo
"Wait… Your dad runs a zoo for the most expensive and difficult animals to keep in captivity? That's so…" Hazel searched a moment for the right word before settling on, "out of pocket."
"My grandpa started it, and it's not without ulterior motives," Dev told her honestly. But even after her very first trip to Dimmadome Zoo, Hazel stood by her belief that maintaining this place was the best investment Dale had ever made.
And maybe, leaning his folded arms against the narwhal exhibit rail, watching her bounce and babble to the pink elephant and green otter plushes in her hands, Dev thought so too.
2. Bear
"Uh, Dev? I don't think this is the best move we could make in this situation…"
"I've always wanted to pet the polar bear cubs," he said, already hopping the fence. "C'mon, Hazel! We have fairies!"
The purple au pair drone whirring behind him let out a groan. "Dev, we HAVE to talk to your dad about installing better railings in this place…"
3. Travel
"COSMO! WANDA! I WISH WE WERE IN TOKYO!!"
"Ooh! Make it a sushi place!"
"Just run!"
4. Heal
✨ 東京 プーフ! ✨
Dev's next slamming footstep plunged into nothing. He flipped forward into frigid water… Except, through the water, like his whole body had just been splurted with gel and wrapped in itchy feathers. And... whiteness. Or pinkness? Dev stretched out a hand, feeling blindly in the rush of twisting space for Hazel, but he'd left his hands with the polar bears and screaming made no sound.
Then the world snapped into place again like a rubber band. When Dev blinked, it was dark… Maybe early morning. He found himself sitting upright on what felt like padded patio furniture, holding a menu in one hand and a purple paprika shaker in the other. Uh. Do sushi places usually have paprika shakers? From the looks of it, Peri had dropped him in an outdoor dining experience on some kind of waterfront, right across from Hazel… and a very confused polar bear. Who also had a menu in her big, clawed paws. Dev lifted his shades and squinted against the hazy fairy lights. Do bears like sushi? I guess it IS made of fish…
Hazel recovered faster. Opening her hand, she hissed to the salt and pepper shakers, "When I said 'We,' I didn't mean the bear."
"You should be more specific," the green shaker griped. But with a glimmer of his metal cap, the bear disappeared in a snappy ✨ Dimmadelphia poof! ✨
"40,000 yen per roll during dinner rush," Peri muttered. "And if I'm calling it out as pricy, that's saying something."
Adrenalin churned like whitewater rapids through his body, so Dev put down the sushi menu and took the deepest meditative breaths he could. Huh- Maybe Mr. Guzman's relaxation lessons were onto something. Hazel leaned her elbows on the table, hand on her forehead. Is she-?
"Are you okay, Hazel?"
Hazel took a big breath of her own, rolling through it like a cat in a sunbeam. She pushed back her hair. "I think so, yeah. It's just being chased across the ice caps by an angry mother bear. No big deal. You?"
"Yeah. I think so. Ihhh." Did she-? Should I-? Ah, too many thoughts bubbling up, overlapping- Dev took the leap; made the move: "I wish all Hazel's scratches were gone."
… Those were just from tripping mid-run while they escaped the bear, right?
5. Impress
"I'm impressed, Dev." Hazel smiled across the table, then tilted her pressed-together hands forward and dropped any glitter and fun in her eyes through the floor. "That was crazy, impulsive, and totally dangerous even for you."
"Uhh… I guess I might've got carried away back there." You know what would be really nice right about now? "I wish I had my tablet," he whispered to Peri, who sighed (as usual- overworked college student he was or what the ever) and poofed up exactly that.

Tailored Aesthetic Custom planters allow you to match your décor perfectly. Whether you’re aiming for a modern, minimalist look, a rustic vibe, or something eclectic, you can choose designs, finishes, and materials that align with your style.
Perfect Fit Standard planters don’t always meet specific space requirements. Custom planters can be designed to fit into unique spaces, such as narrow balconies, corners, or areas with irregular dimensions.
Personalized Functionality Need a planter with built-in irrigation, wheels for mobility, or extra depth for specific plants? Custom designs let you incorporate features that meet the unique needs of your plants and space.
Branding Opportunities For businesses, custom planters can feature logos, company colors, or designs that align with branding. They’re perfect for restaurants, offices, hotels, and retail spaces looking to make a statement.
Materials for Custom Planters
Metal Custom planters made from materials like corten steel, stainless steel, or aluminum offer durability and a sleek, industrial look. Metal planters can be powder-coated in various colors for a polished finish.
Wood Wooden planters provide a warm, natural aesthetic. Custom wood planters can be treated for outdoor use and shaped into unique forms to match any space. They’re ideal for gardens, patios, or rustic-themed settings.
Fiberglass Fiberglass is lightweight yet durable, making it a popular choice for custom planters. It can be molded into virtually any shape and finished to mimic materials like stone, ceramic, or metal.
Concrete For a bold and modern look, concrete custom planters are an excellent choice. They are heavy, stable, and can be crafted into a variety of sizes and textures to suit contemporary designs.
Ceramic Custom ceramic planters bring elegance and charm to any space. With endless options for colors and patterns, they are perfect for both indoor and outdoor use.
Recycled Materials Sustainable options like recycled plastics or repurposed materials can be used to create eco-friendly custom planters. These are ideal for environmentally conscious projects.
Creative Ideas for Custom Planters
Geometric Shapes Experiment with unique shapes like hexagons, triangles, or asymmetrical designs to add a modern and artistic touch to your planters.
Multi-Tiered Designs Custom planters with multiple levels can create a cascading effect, perfect for showcasing a variety of plants in a small space.
Illuminated Planters Incorporate LED lighting into your custom planters for a striking visual effect. These are especially popular for patios, pathways, and event spaces.
Integrated Seating Combine planters with benches or seating areas for functional outdoor furniture that blends greenery with comfort.
Themed Designs Work with designers to create planters that fit specific themes, such as tropical, desert, or Zen-inspired styles.
Applications for Custom Planters
Residential Gardens Add a personal touch to your backyard or patio with planters designed to complement your home’s architecture and landscaping.
Commercial Spaces Use branded planters to enhance office lobbies, restaurants, or hotels. Custom designs can help create a cohesive and welcoming atmosphere for guests and clients.
Urban Rooftops Maximize limited space on rooftops with custom planters that fit perfectly into corners or along railings. Add features like built-in irrigation to simplify maintenance.
Public Spaces Parks, plazas, and community areas can benefit from custom planters that incorporate seating, art, or signage, enhancing both functionality and visual appeal.
Events and Exhibitions Custom planters can be used as temporary installations for weddings, trade shows, or special events, creating memorable and visually striking displays.
Tips for Designing Custom Planters
Define Your Needs Consider the purpose of your planter. Will it hold flowers, shrubs, trees, or a mix? This will influence the size, depth, and material choices.
Choose the Right Material Select materials based on the environment where the planter will be placed. For example, metal and concrete are great for outdoor durability, while ceramic works well indoors.
Plan for Drainage Ensure your custom planter includes proper drainage systems to prevent overwatering and promote healthy plant growth.
Incorporate Functionality Think about additional features like wheels for mobility, self-watering systems, or insulation for temperature-sensitive plants.
Work with Professionals Collaborate with skilled designers or manufacturers to bring your vision to life. Share sketches, photos, or examples of what you want to ensure the final product meets your expectations.
Conclusion
Custom planters are the perfect way to combine functionality and creativity, allowing you to design green spaces that are as unique as you are. Whether you’re enhancing your home, business, or a public area, custom planters provide endless possibilities to showcase plants and add character to any space. By tailoring the materials, size, and design to your specific needs, you can create planters that stand out and truly elevate the beauty of your environment.

In the back garden, Miguel leads a mini expedition searching for bugs and slugs. He’s got his bug kit which includes a magnifying glass, a net, and a lime green plastic keeper to usher his catches into. Monte is at his side, his plastic ray gun in hand, playing guard should a bug give them trouble. Mister X was welcomed to join the hunt as backup, even given the second small net he comically holds in one large hand. Looks like he might be tapping out, however.
From the center of the porch swing, Brianne watches the Tyrant depart the intrepid duo, who are hunched down close to the dirt and near crawling as they overturn rocks and search through bushes. Not an easy task for a fellow of his size. A kind smile greets him as he nears, the journal in her lap closing, and a question in her observant gaze as if to ask if he needs anything.
Instead, Mister X sits at her side, necessitating a quick shuffle to the left and a sudden fear for the patio furniture’s integrity. A creak sounds along the back of the wooden bench and a twang in the metal rings above. Oh dear. Her shoulders tense and a thought to jump to her feet finds her until recalling that Santiago, her, and the two boys have all sat here together — it should be alright.
“All done with the bugs, then?” The welcoming smile returns, her fears partially brushed aside ( but her palm still rests on a heart that’s palpitating ).

Key Features of Modern House Exteriors
One of the defining characteristics of a modern house exterior is its clean lines and minimalist approach. Unlike traditional styles, which often emphasize elaborate ornamentation, modern design focuses on simplicity and sophistication. Flat or low-pitched roofs, expansive windows, and open facades are common elements that contribute to the streamlined look.
Another hallmark of modern house exteriors is the emphasis on natural light. Large, floor-to-ceiling windows or glass walls create a seamless connection between the interior and the exterior, fostering a sense of openness. This design element not only enhances the visual appeal but also promotes energy efficiency by reducing the need for artificial lighting during the day.
Material selection plays a crucial role in defining a modern house exterior. Designers often opt for materials like concrete, glass, steel, and wood to achieve a contemporary aesthetic. These materials are typically left in their natural state or finished with subtle treatments to highlight their inherent textures and colors. For example, polished concrete surfaces can provide a sleek and industrial look, while natural wood accents add warmth and character.
Trends in Modern House Exteriors
Over the years, several trends have emerged that showcase the versatility of modern house exteriors. One notable trend is the use of mixed materials. Combining wood, metal, and stone in a single facade creates visual interest and a dynamic appearance. For instance, a house might feature a steel-framed structure with wooden panels and stone cladding, blending the raw and refined elements harmoniously.
Another popular trend is the integration of sustainable and eco-friendly elements. Modern house exteriors often incorporate green roofs, solar panels, and rainwater harvesting systems to reduce environmental impact. These features not only align with global sustainability goals but also add a unique charm to the architecture.
Outdoor living spaces have also gained significant attention in modern designs. Spacious patios, rooftop terraces, and landscaped gardens are seamlessly integrated into the overall structure, extending the living area beyond the walls. These spaces are often designed with outdoor furniture and lighting to create a cozy and functional environment.
Color Palette and Lighting
The color palette of modern house exteriors is typically neutral and understated, featuring shades like white, gray, black, and beige. These colors emphasize the clean lines and geometric shapes, creating a timeless look. Occasionally, bold accents in vibrant hues are added to provide a striking contrast and highlight specific architectural features.
Lighting is another crucial aspect of modern house exteriors. Well-placed outdoor lighting enhances the overall design by highlighting textures and creating dramatic effects. LED lights, pathway lighting, and recessed fixtures are commonly used to illuminate walkways, entryways, and key architectural elements.
The Timeless Appeal of Modern Design
The growing popularity of modern house exteriors can be attributed to their timeless appeal and adaptability. Unlike styles that may feel dated after a few years, modern designs are rooted in principles that transcend fleeting trends. Their focus on functionality, sustainability, and simplicity ensures that they remain relevant and desirable over time.
Moreover, a modern house exterior serves as a canvas for creativity. Homeowners and architects have the freedom to experiment with shapes, materials, and layouts, resulting in a diverse array of designs. Whether it’s a minimalist urban home or a luxurious countryside retreat, modern architecture can cater to a wide range of preferences.
Conclusion
Modern house exteriors have redefined the way we perceive and experience architecture. With their emphasis on simplicity, natural light, and sustainable practices, they offer a perfect blend of form and function. Whether you are building a new home or renovating an existing one, embracing modern design principles can elevate the visual appeal and value of your property.
Incorporating elements like clean lines, mixed materials, and outdoor living spaces ensures that a modern house exterior not only looks stunning but also aligns with contemporary lifestyles. As this architectural style continues to evolve, it remains a testament to the power of innovative design and the enduring beauty of simplicity.

I first posted this 1947 art deco home in Baltimore, Maryland about 3 yrs. ago and the 2bd, 1.5ba house just sold for $239K.
The living room has glass block, curved walls and a fireplace wall, all original.
The living room flows into the dining room to reveal the other side of the double-sided fireplace. Some of the furniture was included in the sale.
The wall shelving is perfect for a tea pot collection or something of similar size.
Bedroom #1 has cool cowboy wallpaper that was very popular for little boys rooms.
The blue bathroom sink is definitely retro.
Bedroom #2 is small, and appears to be a pass thru to the kitchen and 1/2 bath.
The 1/2 bath has a stainless sink with baseball faucet handles. Not sure if the suitcases are decorative or for storage.
The kitchen has original metal cabinets and linoleum floors.
A kitchen table fits in this pantry area.
I don't know why there's a sink, stove and fridge in here.
Small sun porch in the back. This home does need work and seems like it's been slowly deteriorating due to neglect.
There's a patio in the back. What's going on with the roof? It looks like the brick deteriorated and they just painted over it.
The yard is dirt, so it will need some landscaping.
Lake Montebello is across the road.
Before they repainted it green it was yellow.
