This might be an odd request so I'm kinda scared to ask this but kind of a Greek underworld mood board? Like with Hades and Persephone as caretakers for maybe a five year old? Dark colors, skeletons, royal family, flowers kinda deal? But make it a bit more safe for kids? I totally understand if you can't do this btw, LOVE YOUR BLOG

HEADCANON:  Link is Hyrule’s Charon/Hermes. Includes shadow temple architecture theories!! death mention is strong.
i don’t expect anyone to endorse or share my headcanons. so please be respectful of them!
Charon,  in  greek  mythos,  is  the  ferryman  that  crosses  the  river  of  styx  and  archeron,  who  gives  safe  passage  to  newly  deceased  souls.  such  a  ferry   is  seen  in  the  “underworld”  in  Ocarina  of  Time  in  the  shadow  temple.  once  on  the  ferry,  you  must  play  zelda’s  lullaby  to  start  the  boat  ride  down  the  invisible  river.  On  this  boat,  you  are  tasked  with  an  optional  battle  between  two  stalfos;  the  souls  of  the  dead.
what’s  more  interesting  in  this  temple  are  the  hover  boots,  which  seem  very  close  to  a  representation  of  hermes’  boots,  which  we  also  see  depicted  as  the  pegasus  boots  in  a link to the past.
we  can  also  see  references  to  ascalaphus,   the custodian of the orchard of Hades,  who  is  depicted  as  both  a  raven  and  a  dark  owl,  which  is  seen  literally  all  over  the  temple.
“So he became the vilest bird; a messenger of grief; the lazy owl; sad omen to mankind.”
but  if  ocarina  of  time  wasn’t  enough  for  me  to  make  this  headcanon,  then  majora’s  mask  is.  in  the  game,  we  see  link  actively  releasing  and  calming  the  souls  of  the  dead  to  make  their  departures  easier.  he  calms  them  by  using  the  song  of  healing  and  ushers  their  souls,  eased  from  their  regrets,  to  the  other  side.  in  a  world  that  seems  to  be  RULED  by  the  concept  of  death  ( even  in  name:  TERMINA (terminal) )  link  almost  always  acts  as  a  catalyst  that  either  saves  a  damned  soul  from  death  or  helps  tormented  dead  pass  on  into  the  afterlife.  see:  the  entirety  of  ikana  canyon.  this  job  is  dark  and  would  be  unwanted  by  anyone  charged  with  the  task,  but  it  also  brings  about  the  question  of  the  fierce  diety  mask.  the  masks  description  says  that  the  mask  has  terrible  powers  that  could  be  comparable  to  Majora’s  Mask.  because  of  this,  I  don’t  think  of  fierce-diety  as  a  warrior  god,  but  as  a  god  of  death.
where  does  hermes  come  in  other  than  for  the  hover  boots? “ In addition to serving as messenger to Zeus, Hermes carried the souls of the dead to Hades,”  ;  interestingly  enough,  fierce  deity  link  fights  with  a  double-helix  sword,  the  same  symbol  used  in  the   Caduceus.
“ The symbolism of the double helix represents the relationship between your natural life(defined as the your physical being) and your conscious experience (defined as your life as you know it to be). The two are represented by the two major strands that create the double helix shape. these two run in opposite directions which resemble the fact that in time your natural life is destroyed, but your conscious experience is being created. “   -  credited to agereal on high ideas.
i’ll add more to this headcanon soon.
other credits:  @ macintyre, for getting me thinking.
