Hades goes to the death god convention and regularly meets Odin and tons of other death gods from Norse myhology because Norse loved their death gods. So did the Egyptians as well a lot of death gods would show up. Also in fact Greeks dud gave tins of ctholonic gods so hades, persephone, charon, thanatos, nyx, erebrus, furies, hecate, keres, and the fates go the convention. Hermes too due him.bejng the guide to the underworld and he has to put up with hades at the convention.
Yeah! Totally!
I think Hades would definitely prefer Odin over Zeus lol. Like, Odin is king of the Norse gods and he’s willing to hang out with the dead? That’s pretty cool! If only his own brothers were more open minded like that lol!
But yeah I can totally see a bunch of the deities who are connected to the Greek underworld going to the death god convention too lol! That’d be hilarious to see! And omg yes Hermes having to deal with Hades lmao! As if he doesn’t get enough of him on Olympus 😂

The song of Achilles
Author: Madeline Miller
Tumblr media
Rating: I liked the book! Made me feel things. Ages 16+
Themes: human weakness, pride (not the lgbtqia+ pride, guys. Pride as in one of the deadly sins.), love, greek mythology
Category: greek mythology, lgtbqia+
What is it about?: Madeline Miller's story takes a new perspective on the old story of the Iliad. 'The song of Achilles' is told from the perspective of Patroclus, whose relationship to Achilles has been a much controversial topic since the ancient times (even Plato has already debated it!). The Iliad leaves no doubt as to the two characters sharing a deep bond, perhaps even a romantic one.
The song of Achilles in truth tells the story of Patroclus, as Achilles lover. The book starts in his young childhood, showing us an insecure boy, who is either pressured or dismissed by his father before his eventual exile. He meets Achilles, another young boy and develops a friendship, beginning with envy and growing into admiration.
As grown ups, both boys are forced to participate in the war of Troy because of an oath Patroclus made as a young boy. Most readers already knows that both characters die in the end, so the tragic ending is not unexpected. I think that knowing the inevitable ending to the story makes the build-up more dramatic, you can't help but still hope for it to end differently.
The war changes both of the men. Constant violence would make anyone lose their humanity, their compassion. Despite the hate that surrounds them, Achilles and Patroclus never lose nor waver in their love.
Why do I like it/ dislike it?:
Reimaging ancient mythology can be done in many different ways (and it has!), so there's alot to say about the choice of style. Miller writes in modern english, but somehow still gives her writing a feeling of ancient poise. She doesn't use any colloquialisms. Neither her sentence structure nor her word choice really fit into our daily life, so it is impressive how the writing still feels authentic and is so easy to identify with. I enjoy books that make me feel something, and 'The Song of Achilles' has found a way to do that with such a distinct writing style. The language manages to pull you into it's rythm, rather than alienate you.
The story has a slow build, not only the romance, but the changes of the characters are done so slowly, that they can be hard to notice. Only when you shift back and forth in the book do you notice how Achilles once youthful and playful pride has turned into the heavy burden it is at the end of the book.
There's something quite special about the love between Achilles and Patroclus. I believe it has to do with how unwavering it is and how it is not burdened by expectations, but simple and pure. Patroclus deep love is evident in his internal monologue. He describes a kind of passionate and sometimes desperate love that not many people experience themselves. Patroclus has self-confidence issues and his perspective is warped by that at some points in the story, but Achilles words leave no doubt of his answering deep love for Patroclus.
Criticism:
As Madeline Miller's book is a re-interpretation of an ancient story, some people have raised their concerns that she has over-interprated or wrongly portrayed certain parts. Obviously some people are insulted at her insinuation that Achilles and Patroclus have a homosexual relationship, but that's not really a criticism I deem worthy of time or contemplation. (Oh no, homosexuality! Look, homophobia is bad. Let's just agree on that and get it over with.) And the second biggest criticism I've stumbled upon is the characterization of Thetis, Achilles mother. Many fans want her to have been kinder and more traditionally 'motherly', I guess. She is overly protective and possesive of Achilles and I find that makes her a compelling character. It contributed to the story in a more intresting way than a flawlessly virtuous character would.
I don't really have any criticisms of my own. The closest thing to it would be that since the story is told from Patroclus POV we're missing out on Achilles thought and feelings. I would love to know more about what motivates him to act the way he does. Patroclus is so insecure that he puts Achilles on a very high pedestal. I think his character is more conflicted and human than Patroclus views him as, but reading the story in this way also opens up many possibilities. It is a lesson in the inherent bias of perception, but in truth still gives the reader all the information about Achiles' feelings, they just have to be understood between the lines. Which means that 'The Song of Achilles' is a great read of it's own, but also has a lot of potential for analyzing and probing deeper.
Warnings: rape/non-con, death, graphic violence, abuse
Suggestions and wishes for the book rec series are welcome! Don't be shy to message me, no matter what it is about. Anyone is welcome to talk to me. :)

Until Then
I condemned them for letting you go For letting you slip through their fingers For not knowing it was not me in that accursed armor
I have had countless voices condemn me For not answering that call For hiding amongst the maidens
I condemned that Wicked One and his cleverness For bringing me down, just as he was brought down himself So he would not be alone in his resentment
I have had countless voices condemn me for staying here For not picking up arms Their barbed words could never hurt me
"Achilles we need in this fight, We are lost without you"
They wanted me for war They wanted me only for slaughter That was my only purpose
They think me Thanatos And themselves Hades Commanding Death
But then yours joined their blasphemous chorus And the mere prick of your tongue Pierced my heart like no spear ever would
"Achilles I need you, I am lost without you"
Your voice laid it bare before me Everything I felt for you And I knew then that I would return
The others wish merely to survive I wish to live Solely for you
To have your arms embrace my shoulders To have my fingers roam your scared flesh To have your rough hands gently caress my face
I was a fool not calling to you in return Now Thanatos has taken you And I was not him
The Kinslayer and Wicked One now have their wish If they were not the shear that cut your thread too soon They surely are the hand that held it
I have nothing left to live for And my will to survive died Alongside you
Here I am gearing up for one last stand Putting on this accursed armor yet again Only remembering you
They will feel my despair and fury Allies and Enemies alike While I live my final moments
May we find each other in Elysium And if not there, in the lives to be My dear Patroclus
Until then

Widowmaker’s Côte d’Azur’s Sunglasses found on Ilios Lighthouse. Talon's interest in the Ilios Ruins
In Ilios Lighthouse you can see the sunglasses Widowmaker wears on her Côte d’Azur skin. This was added in 2017, likely with the Summer Games update.
As I searched online to see if anyone else had noticed, I found an instragram post of someone who noticed the sunglasses too. Sadly I can’t find the link anymore. But yeah, this is NOT new, it’s 1 year old.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The newspaper on the rest chair, by the sunglasses (texture file from the gamefiles, this is the highest resolution available :/ )
Tumblr media
Top part is, I assume, the old newspaper. The one on the chair is the bottom half, with the greek text. The bottom half likely replaced the top one (not that I recall seeing a newspaper on Ilios before) with the Summer Games update. 1 month or so after Doomfist and the Masquerade comic came out.
The greek text says
“ Ο ΑγγελιοΦόρος Ήλιος
Πολλοί Φόνοι κατά Ιη διάρκεια επιθέοεων οτο Καρναβάλι
-----------------
The Angel of the Sun
Many Fears During Carnival Attacks “
(bad translation, would need a native speaker to translate it properly)
The picture in the bottom right corner is from the Masquerade comic
Tumblr media
Yep, perfect match.
So, the newspaper is covering the events we see happening during the Masquerade comic. We can assume this newspaper is from the day after those events, at max a few days later.
Widowmaker, (taking pleasure in) reading about her murders in the news. She’s never felt as alive as when she killed Mondatta, so she claims. So this is apparently a thing that she does, she’s low key self obsessed. That ain’t healthy, my poor Amélie, nothing moves her anymore besides killing :(
In Masquerade, Doomfist assembled some sort of Talon High Council and the comic ends with him stating that they have a war to start.
The sunglasses and the newspaper prove that Widowmaker was in Ilios a few days after the Carnival murders, it seems to be the very first mission she is being assigned now that Doomfist has escaped from his cell and taken back control of Talon. Doomfist is setting in motion the events that’ll eventually lead to this “war” that he wants to start. Widowmaker seems to be Reaper’s right hand. Her credentials are not high enough for her to be in the Council but she’s still a very important asset. I think it’s safe to assume they didn’t send Widowmaker on a vacation.
When you go towards the Orca Ship’s cockpit while on Ilios, Athena says
"Over the past week Talon activity has been detected in the area. It is my belief that they are attempting to steal the unearthed artifacts that are excavated in the temple above Ilios."
Until the 2017 Summer Games and the addition of those glasses on Ilios Lighthouse, we had no way of knowing what exactly Athena meant by “Talon activity” but now we do. Talon sent Widowmaker to pose as a tourist (so, her Côte d’Azur skin is canon). No way they’d allow Widowmaker to go on a break right after Doomfist told everyone they had a war to start. No way she’d want to go on a break either anyway x)
She’s on Ilios for a mission. She could be posing as a tourist while she gathers information. You’d think she’s the WORST person to send on an infiltration mission with her blue skin making her easy to spot, but hey, this is 207X, there are robots walking around, blue skin ain’t so weird.
The thing with Widowmaker is that she’s good at one thing and (as far as we’ve seen) one thing only : assassination. Who is/are her target/s on Ilios? On Petra, we learn that the nameless organization of archeologists is in charge of the ONGOING excavations on Ilios Ruins. Ioannidis is a name that pops up on the one of the map’s screens, we can assume he’s the one in charge of the Ilios excavation, Ioannidis being a greek name (meaning son of Ioannis, Ioannis being the greek equivalent of “John”, the man is basically a greek Johnson...possible Indiana Jones reference? Son of John...Jones, close enough?).
Tumblr media
It seems he’s reporting about his progress on the ruins of Ilios to this Hamid Faisal person who could be the “boss”.
The question is : how do the statues, the temple, the excavation site and the archeologists fit within Talon’s war scheme? Why sending a highly trained assassin to a digging site? Why is Talon after those ancient greek artifacts?
The obvious explanation is that they want to steal then sell those artifacts to a client. But how would that start a war? Does Talon even need money? There has to be something more to those statues and artifacts that we’re not seeing right now. How would killing a bunch of archeologists help start a war? This makes no sense. Yet.
Would Talon have an asset as important as Widowmaker waste her talents on an errand like stealing a few statues? Maybe this is not about the money, maybe it’s about sending a message. What is an archeological site like Ilios but a testimony to mankind’s greatness, ingenuity, culture and ultimately, a beautiful heritage from the past.
Who’d want to destroy that? The obvious candidate is Null Sector. We don’t know much, if anything, about their motivations, but if I was a robot bent on destroying humanity, I’d focus on the mass murder aspect of the entreprise, of course, but I wouldn’t forget to make sure the symbols they value the most are turned to ashes. Maybe Talon wants to start a war by killing some archeologists, destroying precious heritage and making it look like Omnic extremists did it.
That would start a war.
But why sending Widowmaker, the highly trained assassin? She’s gotta be there because there’s a high priority target to kill, someone no one but her can get, maybe someone important who’ll come take a look at the statues, someone from the United Nations? The ruins are an internationally protected heritage site after all, it would make sense for some VIP to show up eventually, once the artifacts are all unearthed, perfect time to strike then. Maybe Athena is wrong, maybe Talon is not after the artifacts but after whatever big shot will come out to Ilios to pose for photos with the statues as the entire world watches while Widowmaker aims for their head. I think Widowmaker will be linked to the future greek hero’s background story. Hell, I’m certain she will.
This clue is 1 year old. Nothing new happened regarding Ilios (other than the Petra archeo-faction, but it’s still really vague, we just got a namedrop and that’s it). I guess, like with most clues, we just have to wait.
That’s all I have for you on this topic right now !
If you’re open minded and if you enjoy wasting time hunting for the many obscure things the devs have put in the world of Overwatch, I have an all new discord server :D

Leutogi
Leutogi was a Polynesian goddess, originally a Samoan princess later turned goddess, and once worshiped in the Samoan archipelago in the central South Pacific ocean
In life, Leutogi was a princess of the Samoan Islands who was sent to the neighboring island of Tonga to become the second wife of the then-king of Tonga, as part of a peace treaty between the two island kingdoms. There, however, Princess Leutogi found herself to be held in low esteem by the people of Tonga; when she discovered a wounded baby bat, Leutogi took pity on him and nursed him back to health herself until it could be returned to its family colony. Leutogi was derided by the more warlike Tongans for this, and for all of her acts of kindness.
But the baby bat's family did not forget her kindness to them; when the king's family fell into misfortune, Princess Leutogi was used as a scapegoat and sentenced to die by fire, accused as a witch; as the flames surrounded her, thousands of bats filled the sky and urinated down on the pyre and the crowd, extinguishing the flames and saving Princess Leutogi's life.
The Tongans then exiled Princess Leutogi to a barren and deserted island, expecting her to soon starve to death. Princess Leutogi, however, survived there happily for many years, thanks to the bats, who kept her constant company, brought her plenty of fresh fruits, berries, nuts, and seeds for food (and anything else she needed). Eventually, they had colonized the island and its many caves, and made the island fertile again. In time, Princess Leutogi became a goddess and protector of the bats and fertility, and was worshiped by her native Samoans.
