Greaser's Palace (1972) is an (Unfulfilling) Weirdo's Paradise
This is installment one in our “Psychotronic Cinema” series. The films in this series are “psychotronic,” a term borrowed from Michael J. Weldon’s magazine and encyclopedia. Psychotronic covers the wide swath of cinema that is either slightly out there or entirely bonkers – horror, science fiction, fantasy, exploitation, blockbusters, flops, low budgets, no budgets, thought-provoking, brain…

(OLD) Greaser Daniel By Allan Caos
(OLD) Art by Allan Caos in February of 2020 I want this art to be enjoyed for what it is, not for what it used to mean. If you don't know what I'm talking about, just know that the guy who gave me that lock isn't in my life anymore. But it's still good work, so I'm finally putting it up again.

Allan's Sexyman Archtypes (Sorry)
Hello Papa Louietuals. Allan won the poll I made by A LOT (which makes sense considering he's been around a lot longer than Budwin.)
Tumblr media
And so I decided. Papa Louie fans keep losing so I've decided to spread Allan propaganda. I'm going to fit him into Sexypedia archtypes. Might do Budwin next if someone really wants me to. Every term used is taken from the Sexypedia Wiki.
But let me start with his class: I believe he fits into Elucid. I believe this because he is a favorite within the fandom but not really outside. And I really mean favorite (THE PROPAGANDA IN THE NOTES).
I considered Safe or Thaumiel but decided 1. He's too beloved in the fandom to be simply safe and 2. I think before the poll I was the only person actually calling him a sexyman? We never really acknowledged that until now.
Okay let's get onto the archtypes now!
Angst - Allan moved to Oniontown for his high school life and was relentlessly bullied there. The stress of unknowingly being put on the starring role of a documentary is trivial, as not only are these things somewhat vague, but this also applies to Akari/Custom Worker.
Eye Imagery - Depicted in both official artwork (Flipdeck and Style B notably) and often times fanworks with a black eye.
Johnlocked - HE IS SHIPPED WITH SO MANY OTHER CUSTOMERS (Akari Carlo Roy Etc). He's probably one of if not the most shipped customers in the series.
Mysterious - There's not a lot of canon, so lots of posts are fan interpretations (Does this count under the archtype? Idfk)
Pale Twink - Look at him.
Pathetic - See Angst-ish considering he can stick up for himself, but I've seen many people (including myself) fuck him up. Lots of these fanworks of Allan depict him getting beat and bruised.
Perpetual Smiler - Really you can say this about most customers? But his sprites almost always show him smiling unless viewing the final order or you fuck said order up.
Scars - He is missing a tooth. He is also the only customer in the game to have missing teeth.
Unkempt - Has a greaser-esque design (See Pale Twink), which is a redesign from his first, which is a lot more clean looking (In the sense of in UNIVERSE, NOT in game)
There are also the more Fanon archtypes, which are subjective due to often being by one or two people.
Deadpan Snarker - Humor becoming more cynical after coming back from Oniontown (Headcanon by Yakkolicious, excerpt below).
Tumblr media
Eye Imagery 2 - Dude's blind (Headcanon by me help, excerpt below).
Tumblr media
There might be more, or there might be less. If you have suggestions please tell me! Thanks for reading lol

Also I'm not the biggest Allan fan but you my good sir/maam/monarch have endeared me to him so. Allan headcanons?
You literally cant ask me that ... I've been posting since november 2019 you cant just ask me that ...
Well. I'll keep it rich and brief
- he thinks that vaccines are bad (because someone told him so once), prompting you to then say "Dont.. dont you get the flu shot every year?" to which he replies "well YEAH cause I dont wanna get SICK." This is because he is a goofy funny loveable man
- He is very kind and generally open-minded (when he remembers to be) and pretty gregarious and DEFINITELY optimistic. And he respects deeply the importance of being authentic.
- He’s good with having friends he sees frequently and having friends that he hasnt seen in years and the time gap doesnt alter the relationship in any way .. He doesnt feel like he’s losing friends when it’s been a while. Which is good because he has many friends in many odd places. He’s got connections. He knows people
- Yes he uses 50s greaser slang. Yes Akari has picked up some choice phrases from him that she uses better (negative perspiration baby....).
- Yes he knows things about cars.
- He’s at this point in his life where he has romance woes. It was fun being passed around / passing everyone around but, when he gets to be pushing 30 he starts to think, maybe i should settle down with a life partner and have a family...? But truth be told he’s not yet ready for either of those things. When he is ready he needs to end up with Lisa I think (she has romance troubles to mirror his in that people keep leaving, in fact he aggravated that himself by never fully committing to their budding romance, even almost severing their lovely friendship in his anxiety) (it’s in their natal charts it’s just the way that their lives are)
- His full name is Allan Alan Allen. None of his bullies ever touched on this
- Really he got bullied because in the 6th grade he developed a C R I P P L I N G obsession with the musical GREASE. Oh it was bad man. He still likes it even but now he can appreciate it as a work of art and of the times rather than just, like, guys in blue jeans dancing on cars
- He has no siblings.
- He plays hockey like a god but outside of the rink he’s like ... kind of clumsy and .. he cant tolerate the din of busy places. He only goes to the Fluffmart between the hours of 12 - 2 am and Sue hates him
- Sometimes he can’t tell Roy and Joy apart. He has no good excuse for this
- Lisa is his BFF and Robby is his intermittent roommate and Akari is his bro and Taylor used to be his roommate and Allan is convinced that he has an older-brother relationship with Taylor but Taylor doesnt feel that way and sort of thinks that Allan is overberaring and annoying and he doesnt know why he sends him a birthday card in the mail every year. And Allan knows everyone else too because he’s a social butterfly that way. He is the Only Person In Roy’s Life who has been Consistently Present and Nice to him
- His coat .. all the pockets .. it’s like a catacomb .... he has mini toothpaste and floss and breath strips that he eats like gum .... he really likes Mentos ...  but he’s not a fan of mint in any other contexts .... he just has so much shit in his coat tho ... he pulls dollar bills out of one pocket and coins out of another and shillings out of yet another ....he’s like a magician
- And so much more...
Thanks for playing...!

Random Papa Louie HCs (3)
Lisa finds it very hard to run without listening to music. She’s not picky about what she listens to, so she can basically listen to anything. During marathons or races where earbuds and phones aren’t allowed, she’ll try singing songs in her head or humming. Connor sometimes stands in the crowds with a boom box blasting music to help her run better. This has gotten him kicked out of some races, but he doesn’t care, he loves supporting his best friend.
Since Allan visits Roy and Joy so much in their pizza restaurant, Roy decided to put a 1960s jukebox in the dining area. Allan absolutely loves it and will bust every move possible in the dining room. Most of the other customers find it entertaining, but he once accidentally dance kicked a slice of pizza out of Taylor’s hand.
Doan is terrified of clowns, meaning that he will cry if Sprinks ever comes into the Pastaria. Luckily for him, Sprinks is more into desserts and finger foods. Utah, Gremmie, and Alberto have promised to help with his fear of clowns, but are so far unsuccessful.
Papa Louie is highly skilled at trickery and deceit. Just about every event leading to the workers finding jobs at his restaurants are all secretly orchestrated by him, from paying off his estranged brother to rob two Onion Town tourists to being the one buying out the dance studio’s space in the mall.
Okalani is the local Calypso Island wine aunt that also manages to be the super strict and cynical aunt. Kahuna is the local Calypso Island cool uncle. While they were sort of rivals when the rest of the Calypso fam (Nevada, Utah, Gremmie, and Alberto) were growing up, they now have a mutual respect for one another.
With the clothes at Calypso being expensive, Nevada preferred to alter her hand-me-downs or sew old blankets and towels into clothes for herself and Utah. This included a really soft blanket, which is one of the very few sweaters she has now that she lives in Whiskview.
Sienna drinks more pumpkin spice lattes and frappuccinos than Prudence and Trishna combined, which is a lot.
Whippa and Mousse’s real names are Whitney and Mordechai, but their sweets-loving parents liked referring to them as their nicknames. Mousse thought his nickname was too complicated to spell as a child, so most of his old assignments have his name as Moose instead.
Most of the Flipline residents are bilingual. The official language in the country is English with most regions of the continent being off of old countries and having the old languages too. For example, Sakura Bay schools require all students Japanese alongside English and many residents speak Japanese around each other. It is the same for places like Portallini, which is many fluent Italian speakers. This allows characters like Koilee and Carlo to be at least able to speak two languages fluently.

Grease (1978)
Tumblr media
It only takes one listen for Grease to plant itself into your head and set up a permanent home. In no time, you’ll be reaching for the remote so you can watch this classic musical again. You'll make it your mission to memorize the songs so you can sing along to Summer Nights, You’re the One That I Want, Greased Lightnin’ and the other memorable tunes.
It’s back to school at Rydell High, 1958. Sweet-natured Sandy Olsson (Olivia Newton-John) is shocked to discover her summer crush, Danny Zuko (John Travolta) is not the same boy she met on the beach. A greaser and member of the T-Birds, he plays it off as if their romance meant nothing to him, but that sentiment won’t last.
Grease starts on the right note with an animated intro that recalls the cartoons of the ’50s (Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends comes to mind). It sets the mood and, combined with Summer Nights tells you exactly what’s in store next. John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John are perfect together, the choreography and sure-thing romance get you excited for more. There's not much depth to anything we see but that's perfectly suited to this nostalgia-fuelled, breezy love story filled with teenage drama and a lot of energy.
Much of the film’s success comes from an unexpected source: Stockard Channing as Betty Rizzo, the sarcastic, cynical leader of the Pink Ladies, the clique who adopts Sandy. This movie has many moments of cheese, but Rizzo proves the screenplay by Allan Carr is also self-aware. As the audience gets ready to make a snarky remark at the “Why has he changed?” or “How can I romance her without being embarrassed in front of my friends?” sentiment, Rizzo beats you to the punch. Either by tossing a joke into the mix or introducing genuinely important teenage issues and sentiments. Ultimately the film is still a fantasy that leaves you cheering, but that slight edge prevents you from dismissing it as an airhead. That said, there is one element of the film that is dated: Danny's friends. Their toxic masculinity hints at an unintended, darker edge. For this reason, a few key lyrics have been tweaked in later production. It's easy to see why. Such is the price for enduring for this long. Ultimately, it doesn't matter. Grease is too much fun for you to be offended.
There are many big laughs and heart-fluttering moments as director Randal Kleiser paints this picture of a time when things were simpler and every conflict could be expressed, then resolved through song and dance. The leads are splendid. The supporting cast members make even their small contributions impactful thanks to some witty lines and memorable moments. Is Grease going to convert those who don’t like musicals? I don’t think so, but for those who already like it when characters express their feelings through rhyme, music and footwork, it’s a blast. (On DVD, November 24, 2017)

Timm always calls people with nicknames!
Usually they are simple things like 'Bro' for his friends, 'kid' for people younger than him and also specific Nicknames for People with a closer bond (example: He sometimes calls Allan 'John Travolta' because. Greasers.)
They are mostly friendly ones for everybody since he's also a friendly guy himself, But Quinn gets all the special ones.. and that makes her flustered.
Timm always calls her sweet names, even before officially dating. He calls her Things like Honey, Darling, Pretty girl, Kitten.. Quinn gets especially blushy when he calls her Honeydew.
At first Quinn found it annoying, how he kept calling her Sweetie or Darling in front of other people,Always trying to explain they aren't a thing. But eventually those endearing names got stuck in her and she liked how softly he said them when speaking about her.
He especially liked calling her Honey/Darling, and he says it with such delight! Even when she enters the bakeria to do the last order of the day, it just goes like:
Quinn: *enters the Bakeria*
Timm: Good evening,Darling
Quinn: *blush*

Dope, Dogs & Greasers
Tumblr media
Robert Downey, Jr., delivered his first spoken line in a feature-length motion picture at the age of five. He played a puppy in Pound, written and directed by Robert Downey, Sr.
Born Robert Elias in 1935, Downey Sr. was fifteen when he dropped out of the ninth grade and used his stepfather’s surname to enlist in the army. During his time in uniform he reputedly managed to get himself thrown in the brig three times. Once was when he was stationed in Alaska, when he and a buddy, drunk at their radar scopes, faked a Soviet missile attack. By 1960 Downey was in Greenwich Village writing Off-Off Broadway plays. When he read a Village Voice column in which Jonas Mekas declared that anybody could be a filmmaker, he rented a camera and started making low-budget underground films. He hung out with Mekas and other filmmakers at the Charles Theater on Avenue B, where one night a week anyone could screen their work.
Tumblr media
From the start he combined avant-garde technique and do-it-yourself impudence with a wacky sense of humor. In the 1964 Babo 73 he cast Taylor Mead as an addled President of the United States, with scenes shot guerrilla-style during a tour of the White House. The 1966 Chafed Elbows combines film and still photos in a way loopily reminiscent of La Jetee to tell the ludicrous tale of Walter Dinsmore, a young man who wanders aimlessly from the New School to the Hotel Dixie, a Times Square flophouse, like a Candide adrift in the Pop Art world. In one scene, a man on the street paints him with the initials AW, declares him a work of art, and escorts him at gunpoint to the Washington Square Gallery, where “you’ll be sold right away, because you’re very pretentious.” In another he records a gibberish pop song, “Hey Hey Hey,” flip side to “Yeah Yeah Yeah.” Tom O'Horgan, soon to be famous (or infamous) for Hair, did the music.
Downey fired Putney Swope, his first sort-of-commercial release, straight into the seething cauldron of American race relations in 1969. It’s a sometimes scathing, often just wacky satire in which Swope, the token black man at a failing Madison Avenue ad agency, is suddenly elected chairman. He fires the honkies and renames the firm Truth and Soul, Inc. Charmed and cowed, white clients literally throw bags of money at his Panther-style staff, who crank out ridiculous commercials for Ethereal Cereal, Face Off zit cream (“My man is out of sight, and so are his pimples”), Lucky Air Lines (male passengers get lucky with the stewardesses), and the Borman Six car. There’s a subplot involving the President of the United States, played by the dwarf Pepi Hermine, who played a similar role in an even stranger film released about the same time, Werner Herzog’s Even Dwarfs Started Small. Arnold Johnson, who would later play Hutch on Sanford and Son, plays Swope, but Downey dubbed all his lines in post-production using a gravelly pseudo-black voice; he claimed that Johnson had flubbed too many of them during filming. Mel Brooks and Allan Arbus have tiny roles as Mr. Forget It and Mr. Bad News.
Downey followed Swope with Pound, adapted from a play of his that he later said was “done Off-off-off-off Broadway at a movie house at midnight.” It’s about a bunch of stray dogs waiting to be adopted or put down, played by great character actors like Stanley Gottlieb, Don Calfa, Antonio Fargas and Charles Dierkop. A reporter for the magazine Show who spent time on the set during the filming noted a lot of pot smoking; Downey Jr., who was born in 1965 and grew up in the Village, has said that his problems with drugs go back to his childhood, when his father gave him his first puff on a joint. Junior’s first recorded line of dialogue, addressed to Lawrence Wolf, the bald actor playing a Mexican Hairless, is the immortal, “Have any hair on your balls?”
Pound was rated X for its foul language, and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops denounced its “gross crudities played simply for irreverent and tasteless humor in a style that is more asinine than canine.” It premiered in New York City on a double bill with Fellini’s Satyricon and then vanished.
Tumblr media
Downey followed it with the film that may be his magnum opus, the psychedelically weird Greaser’s Palace (1972). Allan Arbus plays a zoot-suited Jesus figure who drops into a Surrealist Wild West. Other characters include the eponymous Seaweedhead Greaser, his son Lamey Homo, the bearded prairie drag queen Spitunia, and a villain with possibly the most preposterous name in the history of filmmaking, Bingo Gas Station Motel Cheeseburger With A Side Of Airplane Noise And You’ll Be Gary Indiana. Reviewing it in the New York Times, Vincent Canby, who’d been a fan of Swope, panned Greaser’s Palace as “a big-budget mistake” (it cost around a million dollars) and unfavorably compared it to Alejandro Jodorowsky’s El Topo, another psychedelic Western that had preceded it by a few years, which most critics also didn’t get or like.
Meanwhile Downey was directing plays for Joe Papp’s Public Theater; when he directed David Rabe’s antiwar play Sticks and Bones for a planned CBS broadcast, the sponsors backed out at the last minute. Since then Downey has gone on to a fitful, iconoclastic Hollywood career that has included goofball stoner comedies like Rented Lips and the more seriously offbeat Hugo Pool. In recent years Mekas’ Anthology Film Archives has worked with Martin Scorsese’s Film Foundation to restore, screen and archive some of Downey’s earliest underground films, which hadn’t been seen for decades.
