Reminiscing on Gravity Falls: S1E1

@gravity-falls-daily, thank you for creating the opportunity to throw all of us back in time to one of the best cartoons to ever air.

Gravity Falls was the show that just… cosmically aligned with me in a way that I don’t think ever could be replicated again. I was 10 when the show came out. Not only did I get to grow up alongside with the twins, but I got to see one of the most remarkable and inspiring cartoons of my life.

With regard to the very first episode, I remember sitting on my living room couch with my sister and watching it a day or so after airing (we preferred recording shows and watching them later to skip commercials). Up until then, 99.99% of the content I had seen was episodic and self-contained; my family liked the Disney Channel sitcoms like Good Luck Charlie, The Suite Life of Zach and Cody, Shake it Up, that one Jonas Brothers show… you get the idea. I loved Phineas and Ferb and Tom and Jerry cartoons. All very low lore and low story (not to say they were bad, this is just to highlight the fact that I hadn’t seen any show with a coherent plot that ran through the entire show).

Sitting down to watch the first episode, I expected to see a fun, 21 minute long adventure with kids who have some wacky shenanigans due to the craaazy town they were sent to!

That vending machine door closed, and my jaw dropped. I was immediately hooked.

I don’t think I was prepared for the four years that followed it, bur 10 year old me and thousands of others experienced the cannon event that shaped their lives for the foreseeable future.

This is an incredibly biased review but I genuinely believe that Gravity Falls is the best cartoon of the 2010s and I think they nailed it within the first 2 episodes. If you haven't watched Gravity Falls please watch Gravity Falls.

We're organizing a community-wide Gravity Falls rewatch, in "chronological order" for the next two months!

Beginning on June 1st, we'll rewatch the series, one episode per day! An announcement post will be put up each day, saying what the episode of the day is, and providing links for viewing/locations you can watch at! Our ask box and submissions will be open for people to put their thoughts on the episode :3 we'll also have a few catch-up days scheduled in there so you can get caught up if you fall behind a day or two!

Any kind of content is allowed! Fanart, fanfic, meta, reactions, favorite parts from the episode, etc. As long as it's relevant to the episode of the day!

Keep things SFW! We won't reblog/post any NSFW content. Horror is okay, but try to keep things in the spirit of the show!

Anon is turned off for this blog! We want to encourage community building and fandom interaction in the notes & among posts in the tag!
