Dino request- pack of velociraptors!
How The Inheritance Cycle Characters Would React To Seeing A Dinosaur, Part Ten: Pack of Velociraptors.
ERAGON: Is immediately cornered by twelve hungry velociraptors because he could a little too close while fangirling one of the babies (whom he immediately proceeded to name Kelsie.)
Two Hours Later…
*rides past on one screaming*
SAPHIRA: *Throws one* ✨Velociraptor with Velocity.✨
ARYA: “…And this, children, is the proper way to hunt the people you hate!” *pats raptor*
FÍRNEN: Cats! :3
THORN: Sees only hunting partners. His mind cannot be changed. They are now his drinking buddies and he shows evident favoritism for Mackey, Bobby, Tom, Dale, Dave, Damon, and Pasta.
MURTAGH: *kinda wants to ride one* so… how would these work, like, as battle chargers? NASUADA: MurtAgH, nO—
OROMIS: (Opening the door to step outside) *Freezes at a dozen velociraptors staring directly at him.* “Ah. I have interrupted. Excuse me. I shall… leave you be.” *closes door quickly*
GLAEDR: Get these things OFF OF ME-
ANGELA: *points finger accusingly* YOU. YOU ATE MY YARN THAT YEAR. *war cries* *knitting needle attack*
ISLANZADÍ: *shrieks* *tries to bag one’s head with her cloak* …Oh no.
ORIK: *throws boot* HVEDRA, I’M RUNNING OUT OF WoRLDLy POSSeSSIoNS—!
Hvedra: (Walking past with bowl of ice cream) That’s nice, honey…
Orik: HVEDRA!!!
ELVA: Ah. These. Yes. These are very nice. I like these.
BROM: *intense eye contact* *mutters* “You look like my uncle Terence.”

#today's symptoms: super sore legs and nasal weirdness#and tired#honestly this is my immune system's right after the two weeks i have put my body through#and i must just be grateful that it took a break over car smash/family vacation#(i've taken to just saying my car got smashed by a tree because it's more evocative and the drama must be milked while i have it#people are so sympathetic it's so nice not one person has tried to tell me worse things happen#which given that my metric of terrible things happening to me returned to baseline after a few days#is really nice! even my roommates have been super sympathetic and talked about what a horrible week i've had)#anyway the POINT is yesterday i decided to not do tv after 8 cause that's the tipping point into messing up my bedtime plans#and the sickness is what put me over the edge into actually doing it#and here i am showered and lights out at 9 :)#lights out doesn't mean much cause i still need to read my Bible#but it's good. we're good. we're thriving and i had 14 kinds of vegetables and kombucha and a zicam today so i'll be fine

What the food pantry on campus does:
- gives me snacks and drinks to supplement my regular groceries, breakfast stuff, maybe ingredients for 1-2 actual meals
What the food pantry is really bad at doing:
- giving me food I can make into proper meals for the week
Oh you want juice? Here’s 2 little juice boxes. Nothing else; they’re limited. You want pasta sauce? 1 can; limited. You want produce? 2 produce item limit, except for the apples which are starting to spoil. You can have all of those. You want frozen chicken? One container only. Oh, they’re all stuck together and frozen? Sorry, you can’t have two; no chicken, I guess. Pasta? One box only. Rice? Two small bags, max. Breakfast bars? Yeahhhh, those are a snack, and you can only have five snacks, total. But if you put those pop tarts back, you could have some! Oh, you want donuts instead? Sure! But that’s a bakery item, and you can only have one baked good, so you’re gonna need to put that bread back. You want ziploc bags? Here, have two. Not two boxes, two bags. Item limits. Sorry. You can come back next week!
How the fuck are people supposed to actually *use* these things for weekly meal planning if there’s not enough to last a week???
I swear I am grateful for these resources I’m sure they’re doing the best they can with what they have I’m just *frustrated*. I’m trying to spend less on groceries bc I can’t really afford them. It’s nice that the food pantry gives me these small portions to last me a couple days. But that still leaves several days with not enough food unless I’m really creative or go grocery shopping, and I simply do not have the energy or time to be really creative.
#blue chatter#yes yes u have pasta noodles that’s GREAT#that’s not a full meal until I have sauce and meat or veggies to go with it#and your produce and meat stock are very limited if they exist#oh you have rice? great! rice on its own is not enough for a meal. what is going Into The Rice.#like obv if I have to I will just eat the pasta or the rice but a lot of the food bank’s stuff focuses on shelf stable staples and not like.#ingredients you can actually make into a full meal. like. protein and fat and vegetables or fruit.#carbs are super important but if you only have carbs then your body is gonna suffer#same if you only have protein or only have veggies/fruit or only have fat. you need all of them.#and like yes. they do have a couple basic staples like peanut butter. if I needed to make a balanced meal I could probably eat a spoonful of#peanut butter and some rice and snag a bag of apples and eat those. and I will do that if I gotta.#but the effort it would take to turn that into a dish I would enjoy and feel full after eating is. so much.#and they don’t have staple ingredients like flour or sugar or eggs#sometimes they have butter. sometimes. they had eggs once but they were rotten.#like I am so grateful for the free food believe me I am but I don’t understand how they expect students who don’t have grocery money to eat#you could get everything they let you take and still go hungry or feel sick from lack of nutrients or be unable to make food bc they don’t#have spoons or the equipment or both#also. the food pantry is SUPER not wheelchair accessible. and the parking situation is DIRE.#why are there only two (15 min limit) parking spots. but 38584847 meter spots. and the closest non-meter lot 10 minutes walk away.#I had a pain flare yesterday from lugging my groceries all the way back to my car. my gosh.#I should not have to pay for the privilege of parking a reasonable distance from the food bank when there’s spots RIGHT THERE UNUSED#nobody goes to this part of campus! everything is closed except for the food bank! why are these meter spots!

#blessings roll call!#feel free to hop in the tags or replies <3#started my new job this week-- working as a PT tech at a rehab clinic#that training is going well and it's such a blessing to not have to be actively searching for a job during the semester#since I've got a very full class schedule trying to find time to apply and interview would be a nightmare rn#so grateful that got done literally right before the semester picked up#and now I can focus on learning the job. also praise that all my coworkers are kind and patient.#school is going better than expected. there's a lot to do but so far I'm doing really well in all my classes#and singing in choir has been such a joy!#we have so many gorgeous pieces including a Sara Teasdale poem arranged for chorale#it sounds heavenly! the solo is lovely and the alto part is a lot of sustained notes that come together with the other parts to make this#insane almost organ-like sound#got to chat with my bestie today at my other job which was good#homemade soup!#food in general actually. The first week or two of the semester I was subsisting on nothing or junk food#and got to the point where I was starting to feel like crap and went grocery shopping#I've been bringing meals to college and work the last 2 weeks and it's made such a difference!#and I missed eating vegetables and actually getting protein so now I have nutrient-dense meals and it's great#actually getting close to enough sleep and it's been great#talked to my grandparents about visiting over Christmas break and they're down so I might be going to see them soon!#hanging out with my sister a bit more now that we drive to school together#despite being super busy it's been a good month. ups and downs but overall the best September I've had in a while#prayer request-- the one thing I haven't been consistent with is my quiet times.#definitely struggling in that area right now. please pray I can spend time in worship and prayer and study even when I don't feel like it <#college chronicles#journal

graduate school application fees have me carefully plotting out how exactly to make $78 in groceries last three weeks. I thought the stressful part would be over once I submitted my last application (which I did yesterday! I am very proud of myself!) but no the financial fallout is just beginning
#I’ll be fine- I’m really lucky my girlfriend’s family is so kind and packed me a bunch of frozen venison#And snacks and all manner of other good food. So that will go a long way#Plus while cleaning out the freezer my housemates and I found a big bag of Lima beans I had forgotten about that’s still good#Which means I’ll still get vegetables in without having to spend money on fresh produce#But gddamn I’m really feeling the expenses pile up- on top of other things like vet bills and money for tickets to fly out to a conference#at the end of this month (although maybe I get get my school to reimburse me for that#I need to get on it). I am proud to have gotten a talk slot though! And I am grateful to be able to pay the application fees at all#Even if it hurts a bit. But also perhaps the system is a bit broken if you need to shell out this much for the privilege of being rejected#(probabilistically speaking)#*sigh*#vent#graduate school jeremiad#personal#finances cw#food cw

excellent news! The Greek-American fusion place that's not too far from me had a $5 premade pint of their lemon sorbetto and joy has seeped back into my world
#'how much did you spend there' don't. don't worry about that.#I brought a friend and we had a lovely feast of gyro meats pita roasted vegetables and hummus while hanging out on their patio#and while I am sad that it's a little too pricey to go every week I am very grateful for the opportunities in which I can go

We planted some asparagus last year, just to see how they would grow in our
Polycrub. They've not only survived, but absolutely thrived …..so happy.
We're hoping to plant some more, and keep one bed just for asparagus … 😋
