"The Devil's Invitation", a re-imagining of @samguayart 's original piece, done for a #drawthisinyourstyle hosted on IG. the original piece is one of my favorites by Sam, which made the challenge extra *drumroll* challenging. but eventually some personal choices and preferences came through and little by little the piece developed its own narrative.

I also opted for a colorized border to establish allure and dominance (and a little claustrophobia).

Artist statement:

This piece intends to convey an old photographic effect with its smooth textures, black-and-white color scheme, and techniques of shading. It showcases my mom reflecting on her youth as she takes this portrait to graduate from high school and move on to college, and this piece was created when I found myself in the same situation two years ago getting ready to move to college.
