Thoughts on Episode 5
. Carmody nooo 😭 I've grown really attatched to him over the past two series- he's so lovable and adds another dimension to Skeldale house. However, he did the right thing by accepting his place at the Royal Vetinary College. He's still growing into his potential as a vet and has learnt a lot.
. James is officially a stay at home dad for both Jimmy and Tristan lmao. I liked how some of the adult/child roles were reversed in this episode (Tristan being his usual self and mucking about; the baby being the audience for his lecture). In all seriousness though, Tristan is such a good uncle to Jimmy.
. Although it did not come to anything, reaching out to Doris was the confidence boost that Carmody needed. It was rewarding to see him believe in himself more. He's realised that people love him for who he is and that he should not be embarrassed. I also liked how Tristan encouraged Carmody to go to the pub with him. As a socially awkward person myself, I love how the Skeldale family simultaneously respect Carmody's boundaries and make sure he is included.
. Speaking of Doris, I hope we get more of her. I enjoyed her quirky/fun side in this episode as well as her dynamic with Mrs Hall.
. Mrs Hall putting Mr Bosworth in his place was downright satisfying.
. Siegfried telling Carmody that Skeldale house will always be his home made my heart melt. They all care for each other so much.
. Tristan bullshitting his essay the day before the deadline gave me anxiety.
. I liked Miss Grantly and her dynamic with Siegfried. It was important for Siegfried to open up to someone who has had the same experiences as him as a widow. I don't think their attraction will come to anything serious (Aufried is too good a ship imo). The plot was an effective pushing device for Siegfried to become more attuned his feelings- something which he has been trying to do since the beginning of the series.

Disappointed... There was zero commitment to the Waterloo Road ridiculousness. Like it was tame, toned down. There was none of the bold personalities we used to have! One of the teachers was clearly supposed to be a Budgens rip off but Budgens had a cartoonish personality so this person just felt dull. I guess killing off Chlo was dramatic, but it's nothing compared to Donte killing someone in a drunk driving accident. I just think they're too scared to anything near what old Waterloo Road did.

I'll only consider watching the return of Waterloo Road if Rachel Mason is making a surprise come back and there's mention of her and Eddie reuniting and being a couple.

"..WHO ARE YOU?"
in which you meet a rather strange creature while being in dottores lab; sketchy shit.
before you read -> swearing, sketchy shit idk, gn reader, intended romantic, short, not proff read
word count: 0.7k
I randomly got motivated seeing this fanart of dottore (the right one) also thank you for all the requests I will be making them soon!!
you and dottore have been very close over the past years, you've known him in your akademiya days. he used to be really sweet, easily flustered yet so sassy; of course it's not like he's not sweet now, it's just that things change. intimate or romantic encounters with dottore is very rare, even though you practically live in his lab, staying here to monitor if he's eating enough food or sleeping at least 6 hours a day.
you sat in the mode secluded side of dottores lab, something similar to a storage room where he keeps all the supplies he needs for his experiments. you needed some time alone, your social battery got worn out rather quickly today and you needed to relax. you bought a new book lately, the world making quickly interested you so much, it was like you're hypnotized, nose in the book and nothing else matters.
that was until you heard a strange sound coming from outside the door. a strange feeling ran through you, the atmosphere eerie. you have no idea what's going on.. so many years of being in his lab yet it was the first time of you having this strange feeling.. the door creaked as someone walked into the shadows.
".. hello?" you call out, maybe it was one of dottores clones trying to pull a silly prank on you?
no response.
you hear footsteps coming in your direction, quickly closing your book you tried to see who just came out from the shadow. you relaxed a bit seeing that it was one of dottores clone.. or not?
the being looks like dottore when he was studying at the akademiya with you, but why was he just standing like a ghost in the darkness? does he even know you see him?
"do you need anything?" you asked quietly, almost unsure. no response. as he slowly walked over to you, you realized that he indeed wasn't a clone, you have never seen a clone look like that. he had absolutely no face, it was terrifying, his face or.. the place that his face should be at was completely black.
it was like you couldn't utter another word, you froze in your spot, eyes widened as you were hypnotized by this being.
he finally stopped right infront of you, he was slightly taller than you. he stared at you like if you were the pray and the was the predator, he slowly started leaning down to look at you face to face, and he slowly caressed your face with his cold hands while still staring at you intensely.
you wanted to say something, run away but you couldn't.. you just couldn't like you didn't have the ability to do it.
he is still uncomfortably quiet, he doesn't say anything. can he even do that without a mouth? his hand slowly slides down from your cheek to your neck. he started off gently but grantly increasing his pressure on your neck, soon enough you started to choke, you couldn't do anything, you felt so helpless, so terrified of the creature before you, it was not the zandik you loved.
you fell to your knees as you heard someone call out your name, you breathed heavily, looking up to see that it was indeed dottore. not the faceless one the ruthless, terrifying one; it was your lover.
"why are you just laying there? i was looking for you everywhere, let's go." he said in a hurry as he montioned you to follow him.
you stood up, looking around the room, your breathing slowly becoming normal. you cleared your throat and started slowly walking over to dottore who was waiting for you near the door.
"are you okay?" he whispered.
"..yeah."
...
what the fuck just happened?

Bonding
SUMMARY | You and Rafe have more in common than you both thought.
-requested by anon
PAIRING | rafe cameron x adopted!teen!reader
WARNINGS | drug consumption, yelling, arguing, hurt/comfort, soft!Rafe, fluff at the end
◃◦--------------●--------------◦▹
You have been living with the Camerons for a few weeks now, still getting used to yet another family who grantly took you in. You're related to them, but not by blood. Your so-called mother met your stepfather when you were just a toddler, both quickly bonded over the fact that they're drug addicts.
You were only 6 when you got ripped out of your home and thrown into the system, going to family after family, everyone claiming you were too much to handle.
Now you were a teen and the system surprised you one day when they told you they found some of your relatives.
"They live in the Outer Banks. Ward and Rose Cameron already await you with open arms." The social worker told you with a smile while you only sighed, slumping in your seat before her desk. Great, another family who are 'oh so happy' to get to know you.
Now here you were, sitting in your room at Tannyhill and it was just how you expected. Ward did seem like a nice guy all until the papers were signed and the social worker left. He showed you your room and since then you were just air to him. A charity case to show off at events or the country club, to let everyone know what a good guy he is and how generous for finally getting you out of the system.
You hated it. After all these years of being thrown back and forth from family to family, you were now stuck here, adopted by someone who doesn't even acknowledge your presence when entering a room.
At least his kids, or your new siblings you suppose, talked with you and showed you around the Outer Banks.
Wheezie is funny and very smart. You both had a movie night once every week or sometimes you would go shopping with her, loving to just listen to her rambling or gossiping about school, sometimes she even asked you for advice.
Sarah took you several times to the Chateau where you got to know the pogues, they're a chaotic group of friends but it's nice feeling included in something.
And then there was Rafe. You don't really talk much, just the usual small talk when you would go to the kitchen to get water or when he passed your room, peaking inside to ask if you want to join him by the pool.
◃◦--------●--------◦▹
One evening you got home late, stumbling through the door, high as a kite, and didn't notice Ward standing there with his arms crossed until you kicked your shoes off jumping in surprise when you turned to face him, placing a hand on your chest.
"Where were you?" he asked, his tone laced with anger.
"Out." you simply shrugged, about to walk up the stairs when Ward turned you around, grabbing your chin in one hand and examining your face.
He scoffed with a smile, letting you go harshly, making you stumble a little before he snapped at you. "You're grounded!"
"What?!"
"You heard me. For the next two weeks you won't leave the house except for school," he said crossing his arms.
"But I bet I still have to go to that stupid midsummer event, right? Have to keep up your reputation?" you laughed mockingly.
"What are you on about?"
"As if you don't know! I'm nothing but a charity case to you, a trophy you can show around and live on your act as the generous Ward Cameron, so no one knows what an actual asshole you are!" you screamed in his face, pointing a finger at him.
"You better watch who you're talking to you brat!" he shouted back.
"You're pathetic. Doing everything for another dollar in your pocket as if you don't have enough already!" you waved your arm in the air.
"Alright, you just earned yourself a month of being grounded! There are rules and as long you're under my roof and care you're going to follow them. Unless you want to end up like your mother, pregnant and as an addict."
"Fuck you!" You flipped him off, stomping up the stairs and to your room, slamming the door shut before throwing yourself on your bed burying your face in a pillow.
You never wanted to be here in the first place. You screamed into your pillow in frustration before the tears started to fall, sobbing quietly.
When you heard someone knocking on your door you ignored it at first, groaning when the knocking continued and shouted. "Leave me alone!"
It didn't stop and you sighed, wiping your face before going to answer the door. "I said leave- oh, it's you."
Rafe stood before you, hands in his pockets and lips pressed in a thin line. "Hey, I- uhh, heard what happened downstairs." he coughed awkwardly. "I just wanted to see if you're okay."
"Perfectly fine." you said with a sarcastic smile, about to close the door again.
"You want some company?" he asked, rubbing the back of his neck.
You were about to turn it down but decided against it, nodding your head you stepped to the side, a silent invitation for him to enter.
You walked back over to your bed, sitting on the edge of it, and patted the place next to you. He sat down next to you, rubbing his hands over his knees.
"So, what happened?"
"I thought you heard it?" you raised an eyebrow with a small smile on your face.
"Yeah, okay, you got me." he chuckled. "You know, Dad gets angry fast, you shouldn't take it seriously."
"Don't worry, he's nothing but a clown to me." you both laughed.
There was silence for a moment before you sighed, looking down at your hands, fidgeting with them.
"I just feel so out of place, not only here. I feel like this everywhere. I know it sounds stupid...but...I just want to feel loved and appreciated. There wasn't a single family where I felt at home." You told him, tears already forming in your eyes again. "I know I can be a lot to handle, at least, that's what I've been told my whole life..."
The tears you tried to hold back started to flow down your cheeks. Rafe straightened, slightly panicking at seeing you cry. He reaches behind you, soothingly rubbing your back.
"Shh, it's okay. C'mere." he pulls you more into his side.
He continued to hold you while you soaked his shirt in your tears, but he couldn't care less right now.
"It'll be okay, and hey, don't you know how much Wheezie and Sarah love you?" he asked and you pulled back to look at him, wiping your tears away, sniffling.
He wanted you to know that there are people who love and care for you, himself being one of them. He related to you more than you'll ever know. Being the oldest he tried to be a role model for his sisters, failing miserably, but he still did so much to get his father's attention, receiving nothing in return, not even a pat on the back.
"Really?" you asked, eyes big and filled with hope.
He nodded. "Really, trust me. You're not out of place, you just need time and that's totally valid after all you've been through." he noticed the confusion on your face since you never really talked with anyone about your past. "I've done some research," he admitted and you nodded.
"Thank you, Rafe." You smiled, still sniffling a little.
"Don't mention it, kid." he smiled, reaching a hand up to ruffle your hair. "Now, how about we go and watch a movie? Wheezie had been nagging my ear off about some new horror movie."
"Sounds perfect. I'm grounded anyways, so I don't have any plans." You shrugged making him laugh again.

The Last Chronicle of Barset by Anthony Trollope (1866)
The Last Chronicle of Barset, 1866
I loved Trollope’s flowing prose and his remarkable ability to sustain interest from start to finish of this nearly 900 page book. The story is generally serious, but there are hilarious parts such as the rapacious socialite Miss Demolines and Archdeacon Grantly’s fixation with foxes. 😁 On a personal note, I admired the elegant forms of social decorum and manners extant among gentle Victorian society, and as someone who still enjoys sending and receiving handwritten letters, I loved the importance of letters and calling cards throughout the novel. I was also glad to discover that Trollope’s depiction of his numerous ecclesiastical characters was purely sociological rather than transcendental, so the story is designed to be appreciated on a purely secular basis without regard to religious belief. The story centers around a legal scandal involving a rural clergyman, Mr. Josiah Crawley, the perpetual curate of Hogglestock. The scandal has far reaching implications, not only for the indicted clergyman and his parish, but also for the diocese’s politics, his family, and family allies. We see how differently members of society react to the scandal and how divisions of class, wealth, and religious sectarianism affect perceptions and actions towards Mr. Crawley. On the positive side, the novel shows us examples of great personal integrity, courage, and generosity in the face of crisis and uncertainty. These acts of quiet heroism and goodness soar above our quotidian acts of compromise, cowardice, and self interest and inspire us all. It’s a wonderfully humane novel that I highly recommend.
Memorable excerpts:
Mr. Crawley belonged to the other party, and Mrs. Proudie was a thorough going partisan. I know a man, – an excellent fellow, who, being himself a strong politician, constantly expresses a belief that all politicians opposed to him are thieves, child murderers, parricides, lovers of incest, demons upon the Earth. He is a strong partisan, but not, I think, so strong as Mrs. Proudie.
I always button up my pocket when I hear of scruples, the Archdeacon said.

Thinking about 'jumping on points' for Waterloo Road. With returning and new fans I'm wondering if there's a way to catchup on the show like with Doctor Who:
Series 1 ✅
Well... yes! It's the start of the show and you can't beat the iconic opening seen so yh new fans should and could start here
Series 2 ❌
Not really? Directly continues the Tom/Lorna/Izzie storyline. The Brett stuff could work in isolation but still makes more sense to start from s1
Series 3 ❌
Nope. Continued Donte, Mika, Brett, Chlo, Tom and Davina arcs from s1/2 so you'd prolly be lost. You could start from Rachel's intro because this is also the start of the Rachel Mason era but then you'd have to understand the context of the other teachers. Bolton, Paul, Michaela etc join this season too so maybe but with the amount of storylines directly continued from the previous seasons... prolly not.
Series 4 ⛔
Maybe? The Donte and Chlo storyline and Kim and Andrew's return again works better with the s1 context. But, the Kelly family arc does start here and you could watch that without previous season's context. Not really sure.
Series 5 ✅
Yup! I watched the show from here and it made sense. The John Foster's arc is one of the best from this show and there's a lot of new characters in this season so its a great watch. The only downside is this is the end of the 'Mason era' and honestly this series hits different when you see these characters grow from s3.
Series 6 ✅
Yes. Start of the 'Fisher era' so not a lot of previous context is needed. Only downside is the Josh, Finn, Amy, Lauren era starts from s3-s5 so to see their full growth maybe not put if that's not a concern then go ahead.
Series 7 ✅
Yes again especially because it's broken up. 7a (episodes 1-10) is the 'Fisher era' post all the Bex stuff from s6 so you can start there. Or, you start from 7b (11-30) which is the Byrne era which has brand new characters and doesn't use a lot of previous seasons context. Grantly and Tom's storylines however is another situation of 'watching all the previous seasons makes this feel more emotional' but again if this isn't that deep you might as well. This is also the end of the OG Rochdale era so again, starting earlier makes the experience more enjoyable but this is subjective.
Series 8 ✅⛔
Yes... but for the wrong reasons. Mainly ignores a large chunk of s7 despite being a direct continuation. This is the Scotland era which most fans dislike because the working class Rochdale roots are gone by this point. You don't need context to understand the Scotland character's arcs including Rhiannon (she's a Rochdale character but not in s7...?). The weaker story is also behind from this season too so you can art here but it wouldn't be an authentic representation of the show IMO. Plus season 11+ continues from the Rochdale era. It's unclear whether or not the events from S8-10 are canon but unaddressed or if the show has retconned it so if you choose to start here its unlikely you'll need this to understand s11+. On a technical level yes, but I personally wouldn't recommend it.
Series 9 ✅⛔
Same as s8. Large chunks of previous season were ignored so not a lot of previous context is needed and new character storylines but again, not really ideal.
Series 10 ✅
Same as s8-9. Some underrated characters this season however like Justin and Dale so if you don't mind 1 season storylines go ahead.
Series 11 ✅
Yes. As the reboot season it does a decent job at catching up the Rochdale era. Also if you're tuning in for Preston x Kai this season is the beginning of their story so yes it's essential for the shippers!
Series 12 ❌
Seasons 11-13 are one big arc so not really. Just like s1 it makes sense to just start at the beginning
Series 13 ❌
Nope. Season 12 context is needed for this and to get season 12 you need to watch season 11. These seasons are the shortest of the show only 7 episodes long so its worth starting at the beginning.
These are just my thoughts this is not a definite guide to Waterloo Road! S1, S5, S6, and S7 for me personally are the best ways to start the show but you can do whatever you want!

There's a fascinating phenomenon I've seen wherein trans people who give birth seem to have better outcomes than cis women.
I haven't formally done any studies, this is entirely from facebook groups I've been in with other seahorses*.
But it's telling to me that while a strong number of cis women have very traumatic birth experiences - the majority of birth experiences I see trans people talking about are positive.
Now I'm going to pause and say if you're genuinely interested in this subject, read "Childbirth Without Fear" by Grantly Dick-Read. Then realize it was first published in the 40s and weep for how badly medicine has failed people who give birth.
Back to trans people.
Part of this is because trans people are more likely to very intentionally enter the pregnancy process. And I'm not even saying "they're more likely to TTC"- because oops happens, testosterone is not birth control people- but the societal pressure is very different. There's a lot more pressure on trans people NOT to reproduce, so if a trans person is choosing to have kids - it's *against* the pressure for them *not* to.
In contrast - way too many cis women have kids who never actually wanted them. And I think that's going to significantly impact the outcome of pregnancy/labor because they don't actually want it to occur. And a huge thing that we're realizing is that mental state is MASSIVE on the outcome - so a person who doesn't want to give birth is likely going to fight their body and have a worse outcome than a person who is truly, non-coerced, enthusiastic.
I could keep going, but I think that's a good place to end this on.
So since I'm being dogpiled in the comments for saying "Actually I enjoy giving birth" and I've realized the person who stated this clusterfuck is a trans man - I felt like sharing this.
* (slang for trans people who give birth, particularly trans men, because male seahorses give birth)
giving birth sucks tbh. not only do you and the baby you’re birthing almost die, usually you shit yourself and often you tear your taint. then you have to push an organ out of your body (placenta) and if even a little of that remains in your body, you can hemorrhage to death or develop an infection that essentially rots your body from the inside out. even if you had a relatively “easy birth”, you bleed for weeks on end. even after that stops, your body and brain is changed for the rest of your life, the pregnancy leeched minerals from your bones, that can cause osteoporosis later. minor urinary incontinence is not uncommon, brain scans of people who gave birth show permanent changes in their brain, you’re never quite the same.
I say all of this not to say giving birth is disgusting but it is a harrowing and visceral experience. society downplays how fucking awful it is and makes it out to be a ~magical~ experience but it isn’t a magical transformative experience for everyone. it can be an extremely traumatic experience for someone who wanted to carry a pregnancy to term, much more so for someone who did not want to be pregnant in the first place or someone who knows their baby won’t survive the birth. anyway, abortion is a right. pregnancy and birth aren’t just inconvenient, it’s fucking awful.

Episode 6 Thoughts:
. James and Helen always have me in tears. Everything in this episode was brilliantly acted. Honestly, I've been so distracted by Tristan's problems this season that I didn't anticipate James' breakdown. I don't know if this was the writer's intention or whether it's because of who my favourites are lol. Either way, James' storyline gave some much needed closure to the psychological impact that the war has had on him. I don't know how long Brucellosis lasts, but I hope he doesn't have any more bouts. I have a feeling this won't be the last repercussion of James' trauma.
. Helen was a trooper in this episode: Caring for James, making sure Jimmy was being looked after, and being there for Audrey and Mrs Pumphrey. Her partnership with James evolves each series, and this experience brought them closer.
. Audrey held everyone together as always and I love how she has a solution for everything. She knew that sending Tristan to help Siegfried would force them to talk properly, and she was proven right.
. I like the dynamic that Mrs Pumphrey has with everyone at Skeldale house. It was fitting how she recognised James' symptoms, having cared for her late husband when he was ill. On a side note, it's cute how well Tricki settles in with the other pups.
. Siegfried walking dirt into the house, then proceeding to stand over the baby triggered me.
. The Farnon brothers were so funny in this episode. I enjoyed their escapade, as well as their moments of tenderness. The two of them definitely needed time alone together to bond after being apart for so long. They can't stand each other but also can't live without each other.
. I was hoping we would learn more about Tristan's war stories in this series. We still don't know exactly what he experienced in Egypt, good or bad. I thought Tristan had been acting strange since his return so I assumed he was hiding something (or maybe it's just me...) One thing he did reveal in this episode was that he got "lucky." Maybe he just feels out of place compared to Siegfried, who had a very traumatic war. At the same time, Tristan has lied and masked his feelings in the past. Therefore, it wouldn't be out of character if he hasn't been completely open with people. I think this could either be elaborated on in the future or left open to interpretation.
. I don't know if Siegfried and Mrs Grantly will become an item at this stage. If they do, I think it will be a temporary thing like Audrey and Gerald. Because of the fact that Mrs Grantly didn't appear in the finale, it doesn't seem like the writers are setting up anything substantial.
. I expected to see a bit more of Mr Alderson and Jenny in season 5. Fingers crossed they'll get more screen time in the Christmas special. I want to know whether Jenny decides to leave home or not, and how Mr Alderson would manage without her.
This technically isn't the series finale because of the CS, but it's still the end of a chapter. Carmody has left for London, James has opened up to Helen, Audrey is playing her part in the war effort, and the Farnon brother's dynamic keeps developing.
I've really loved this series- the biggest treat seeing the whole cast back together. There has been some discourse about the execution of this season, and everyone is entitled to their opinion. Series 5 has left more questions than answers regarding the characters, but I think this is likely a set up for the CS and series 6.

Saw this Tik Tok on my FYP. Grantly, this was a kids movie made for tv on the Disney Channel. Though, it would have been interesting to see how the original trilogy would have played out if they weren't made for tv kids movies.
