Day 1 - Montreal Highlights

- Breakfast at Cora's. - SO HOT: 29, feels like 35, humidity 52%. - Six Italians bargaining for bus tour tickets. - So many brides & grooms of different ethnicities (white guy & Asian girl; Asian guy & black girl, etc...) so cool. - "And Then There Was Light" tonight @ 7pm at Notre-Dame Basilica ^^

Day 2 - Montreal Highlights

- Lots of sugar! - High tech metro doors. - Notre-Dame Basilica is very charming. - OMG OMG!!! don't ask ... (Fetish Weekend) - Hard to find people not carrying maps or cameras everywhere. - Cool street performers. - Best strawberry cheesecake ice cream (real CAKE)!!! - McGill University is much smaller than I thought.

Day 3 - Montreal Highlights

- Walk + walk + walk + walk + walk = swollen feet. - Finally convinced that Montrealers are actually friendly. - Africans here are like East Indians in Calgary (hint: cabs). - Feels weird to hear SE Asians & East Indians speak French (wonder about the accent). - About 9 people out of 10 are bilingual (even street performers). - Smoking is a big thing here. - Streets are not awfully clean. - Favourite street: Saint Paul.... - Change of plan ... heading to Ottawa tomorrow. - Wonderful day in Ottawa with Maha & her family. Yousuf is the cutest thing :) - Ottawa cab driver: Sleepy face, thick beard, messy hair, sunglasses with red arms (matching his wristband), seatbelt unfastened, Mom called his cell - gunshot ringtone. Yes, he was East Indian... - Funniest t-shirts I saw in Montreal said: "I Am Not a Tourist!" & "Harvard is America's McGill"...

Day 1 & 2 - Quebec City Highlights

- Awesome 2.5 hour walking tour with Guy! Really nice guy!!! - Looking forward to watching the Grand Prix cyclists tomorrow. - Climbed more than 300 stairs from the upper town to the citadel. - The freaking shower was in the middle of the hotel room. - Yemeni style driving in Quebec ... Shocking to see how aggressive drivers are. - Admission fees to touristic sites & activities are surprisingly cheap. - Eating like a pig ... Need to spend 2,000 hours at the gym to burn the 20,000 calories I ate this week. - Back in Calgary walking in a limp because of a ton of mosquito bites all over my feet, legs, hands & arms ... all happened on the last day in Quebec City ... so painful :(

50cm:Bakelants revels in new opportunities at Team Sunweb

Jan Bakelants had taken several strides toward returning to be the rider he once was before a crash at Il Lombardia in 2017 derailed his career and left him recovering from series injuries. The Belgian heads into the 2019 season healthy and excited about his prospects with Team Sunweb where he will bring expertise to the younger riders, and versatility in one-day races and Grand Tours.

"I look forward to 2019," Bakelants said in an interview with Sporza. "I am happy with this move and glad that I ended up here, and I'm hopeful about 2019."

Bakelants started his career with Topsport Vlaanderen in 2008 and then joined the WorldTour ranks with Omega Pharma-Lotto two years later. He spent two years at RadioShack, went back to Omega Pharma for one season before signing on with AG2R La Mondiale, where he had raced for the last four seasons.

His crash at Il Lombardia at the end of 2017 left him with two broken vertebrae and several broken ribs. He was still recovering heading into the 2018 season but began to make more significant strides mid-summer with sixth place at Grand Prix Cerami and respectable performances at the Tour de Pologne and Deutschland Tour. He ended his season with a series of top 20 results at Grand Prix Cycliste de Quebec, Grand Prix de Wallonie and Binche-Chimay-Binche.

Team Sunweb announced in July that they had signed Bakelants to the team for the 2019 season, for which he expressed his gratitude. "It is not easy for a team to believe in someone who did not have many chances, it was not an easy year," he told Sporza.

Bakelants has not confirmed his schedule, but Team Sunweb will be counting on him to bring experience to the younger riders on the team, and strengths in the hilly one-day races and the Grand Tours. The team's manager Marc Reef also said that Bakelants would fill a captain role during races this season.
