F1 Song Prompt List

1.5k words of pure angst! lando norris x reader inspired by blowing smoke by gracie abrams, thank u @pontiacbandittju for the idea!

You knew he felt alone at night, it was like a sixth sense of yours to know how he was feeling. For your peace of mind, you tried to to let it go - the image of him kissing her. It had been two weeks, at the very most, and you now had to learn how to go about your days with the weight of missing him on your shoulders alongside trying to deal with the thought of them together. 

You felt alone at night, missing the warmth of his body beside yours, and that’s how you knew he would feel alone too. Even if she lay beside him, you knew him and you knew that this was for convenience. He needed a distraction to keep his mind busy from all of the baggage he was carrying. Any girl with a pulse would do for him even for a night - though, you knew he would’ve preferred that it remained for one night. You knew everything about Lando, everything that he hid from all the girls he led back to his bed.

What you had with Lando was more than a one night stand, you knew you were more than a pulse to him because he had told you and even if things has turned sour between you now, you trusted him and his judgement.

Your lives had coincided during a particularly tough time for both you and Lando. Breakups were hard but the person you thought you were going to marry cheating on you for years on end made the breakup just that bit more difficult. And it just so happened Lando was going through something similar, the girl he thought he was going to marry walking out on him and his life. 

Monaco was small, everyone knew everyone, and so when Lando saw tears spill from your eyes as you sat along the pier one evening, he recognised your face. You knew Lily, rather you were friends with her, and he was friends with Oscar so he felt that was enough justification to approach you. Thankfully, you recognised him too and didn’t push him away entirely when he sat down beside you.

Hours passed on that uncomfortable bench, you weren’t sure what came over either of you that night that resulted in you quite literally confessing everything about your respective - now ex - partners. In retrospect, you realised you just needed a shoulder to cry on and someone to listen to you, and Lando was in the right place at the right time. Maybe, as you thought more cynically about that night, he was using this as his opening to your life. But you hoped you were wrong, you thought better of him than that.

Hours turned into days together, both of you seeking comfort in one another. Arguably it was inevitable that you would tumble into bed with one another, the comfort you were seeking running deeper than a conversation but a need beneath his white sheets. This physical connection alongside your understanding conversations was the fix that you were both looking for, though you never discussed what this meant, you knew it was nothing official.

He was brighter than the stars for you, you looked at him like he was the reason the sun rose into the sky every morning. Many nights you had spent crying on his shoulder, wondering how someone you trusted so deeply could turn your life around in the blink of an eye, and Lando quickly learned how to distract you from these ugly thoughts.

He would lead you off of your bathroom floor, flicking on the big light, and pulling you into your bed but not before grabbing a book from your shelf with so much choice that if he cared about what he was reading then he would be stumped. But he didn’t care so he picked a book, cradled your head to his chest and read a chapter or two of whatever book he had picked - it was a foolproof plan, sending you to a deep and relaxed sleep during his reading. 

Looking back with so much hurt, you could only see this as him being pretensious. 

These days turned into weeks and soon months spent together, as he flew you out to races or flew back to Monaco just to see you because he couldn’t bear to be apart from you. He wasn’t much different from you as he spent nights crying in your arms as he opened up to you about his anxieties and insecurities. The warmth you gave him just by listening was enough to have him attached to you, even though he really didn’t want to be.

He knew it was stupid to get attached to someone so quick after the end of a long term relationship, he really only needed a fling to get over it but this was so much more than that. It was like something holy, like souls bleeding together, something greater than both of you, the pull that led him to you. He laid awake at night, beside her, eyes glued to the ceiling as he thought of you. You were inescapable, even when he closed his eyes, you appeared in his dreams as a reminder of what he couldn’t have.

It was stupid and immature how he ended things - or rather, didn’t end things. Lando wasn’t proud of himself but he couldn’t handle another heartbreaking conversation, it would feel like a seering hot knife through his chest. So, one night he slipped out of your bed and never returned.

You hadn’t heard from him in two weeks, he wouldn’t answer calls or texts but you were sure to see him lurking on your social medias as your first viewer whenever you posted. You knew he had baggage, you knew it and you knew him, but you never could’ve called this. Especially after he had opened up about his heartbreak after his ex lover walked out on him, a ghosting was so far from what you had expected from him.

But you knew it was because your connection scared him; he didn’t want to have his heart broken again. No, it wasn’t your ego telling you this because Lando was there to tell you that before you had realised you would need to hear it.

He had turned you into something tragic, pitiful, as you found yourself refreshing social media just to see another picture of him with her from another angle. You knew he would be out somewhere with her, Brasil or maybe Las Vegas, whilst you sat at home scrolling your phone in your underwear like you had lost your mind. 

Another week had passed by and now he just looked stupid online, having been spotted with the third girl in eight days. Only this time, he was back in Monaco. You hated the thought of him with the pretty girl from the internet, in his apartment. It was too close to what you had.

These girls would never know his life the way you did, they didn’t know him and he didn’t want them to. He had reserved that part of him for you and only you. You could offer him something else in this world, something that money couldn’t buy. But giving that part of him to you wasn’t something he was ready for. 

He would take his shoes off at the front door as she made a beeline for his bed, tired after a night out - just as you had been. He felt nothing but he wasn’t going to stop her. You knew their relationship would never fill the hole in his heart. Lando knew this too. The conversations with them couldn’t compare to you, these girls weren’t taking him very far, out of the world he was so stuck on. Always about his yacht, his second home in Italy, or the new Mclaren he had bought - he was ready to rip his hair out with every girl that mentioned a car. He just wasn’t interested. He wasn’t sure he could remember a single time you had asked about his cars or his homes and he knew you weren’t even aware of his yacht.

Despite all of this, you continued to watch his races, cheering for him when he took a step upon the podium. The pictures of him and other girls, you knew, were his way of coping with the world he was in. Having someone in his bed was the only way he could stand his empty house, only he preferred your body beside his. He could only hope that you would forgive him, that you would find your way back to each other, when the time was right.
