By now, Matt long since given up on convincing Grace to drop the whole vigilante business. Surely it wasn’t what he wanted to for either of his children -- and surely not what he wanted for the one that was on the way. But Grace knew the risks, she grew up seeing her dad hurt way too many times. She was old enough to know what she was doing, so at some point Matt just stopped trying to convince her to just have a normal life, he doubted there was any chance she’d listen anyway. She was just as stubborn as either of her parents.

He’d even ended up working with her from time to time. Which was the case that night. The difference was, this would probably be the last night he’d ever do that. He’d decided to finally stop. To not be Daredevil anymore. It was about time anyway. But what actually made him make that decision was finding out Felicity was pregnant. And then her doctor’s words about how much riskier this pregnancy would be since it had been years since they had Jack. He didn’t want to risk not being there for her if something happened. He’d never forgive himself. Plus, he was sure Hell’s Kitchen would be in great hands.

They’d just taken out a gang that had been causing way too much trouble lately when Matt decided this couldn’t wait anymore. He already felt guilty for being out there and not at home with Felicity, which, he had to admit, was surprising. He stopped as they walked along a rooftop, taking his mask off. “Hey, we... we need to talk.”

As was usually the case whenever the Hand was involved, Stick was in town again, and had reached out to Matt, either ask for help -- although he never really put it that way since the first time the worked together -- or drag Matt into all that shit -- if he wasn’t already which, at this point, was unusual.

But that wasn’t what was bothering him. He’d gotten used to having Stick around in situations like this, so when he figured out those asshoels were back, he knew it wouldn’t be long before Stick showed his face. And that was exactly what happened.

This time, however, he was more worried about Grace. This was the first time the Hand was active in New York since she started acting as a vigilante -- or since he found out he’d been doing that anyway -- and they didn’t really get a chance to talk about it yet. So basically Grace was out beating up bad guys, with high chance of running into them. And in his experiece, that never ended well.

He didn’t get a chance to look for her at night either. With everything that had been going on, and Stick nearly glued to him all the time, the best Matt could do was hope his daughter wouldn’t run into that kind of trouble.

So running into her that night could be a huge relieve. Or surely would be if Stick wasn’t with him. This definetely wasn’t a conversation he wanted to have with the old man standing right next to him.

“Hey...” Matt greeted his daughter,stopping in front of her, trying to ignore Stick next to him who’d just snorted in disaproval. 

“We don’t have time ofr chatting, Matthew, I got work to do.” The old man complained, to which Matt’s only response was for him to shut up.

“That’s Stick. Don’t mind him, we need to talk.”

With the dad she had, Matt couldn’t say he was surprised by what she’d done. Saving him, whether he needed it or not, was something he’d always expected his daughter to do. Except that he’d planned on stopping her and she surely wouldn’t be pregnant when it happened. So things didn’t go exactly as he’d wanted them to. “I hope you’re happy for almost losing your life or your baby after saving my ass. You know you don’t have to, right?”

He could hear her. Of course he could, but she sounded far away, even though Matt was well aware she was right by his side. That was probably because he was nearly passing out, in a place Matt couldn’t even remember where it was or how he even got there. All he knew was that his daughter had been with him and whatever the reason for them being there was, it had everything to do with the fact that he was bleeding on the floor now.

How did he even let it get to this point? Even breathing took a lot of effort, and the slightest move felt like he was getting beaten up all over again. But Grace was fine… right? Something in the back of his mind had told him that had been the whole point. She was fine. That was what mattered. He tried to say something, but all that came out of his mouth was coughing, followed by blood given the taste in his mouth. In any other situation, he’d say he’d been worse than that. But, this time, it would probably be a lie.
