Two years ago, I bought a bunch of wine cap mushroom spawn to inoculate an outdoor bed. However, because of my health and also the health of the friends who were going to help me set it up, I didn't actually make the bed until late fall. We were already having frosts and the spawn was at the very end of its usable shelf life so I knew it might not take, but I figured I might as well try anyway.

I didn't get any mushrooms all last year, so it looked like the spawn had been too old or the mycelium didn't have time to get established before the winter. Which, you know, happens, especially when you are cursed.
