Albedo spent sixty years rescuing Nahida from her cage, because he was looking for a challenge to test himself against. He didn't spend much time thinking about how, after the rush of satisfaction had faded, he would be in possession of a newborn god of wisdom who was so lost she tried to go back into her cage.
"Why are you here?" she asked, puzzled, as soon as the door to her cage opened. "There's so much-- You did so much, so why are you here?"
He stared at her as all of his sense of accomplishment washed away.
She began to gabble. "I knew something was happening, I could see your echoes, the ripples like a fish underwater, and I didn't know what you could want but I helped you when I could, because I wanted to see them beaten so why are you here?"
Because this is the finish line. But he knew better than to say that. Instead, he ran a rapid post-mortem on his plans over the last sixty years. When had the flaw been introduced, and how could he compensate for it?
"Okay," she said into the silence. "Now what?" Her eyes reminded him of glass marbles.
"I don't know what you want me to do," she said bitterly after a moment. "There's nothing I can do."
It was a worldview alien to Albedo. Ever since his mother abandoned him, he'd practiced turning his knowledge into power over the world around him. Before they called him a mastermind, they called him a meddler, and usually he didn't bother tidying up when he was done.
"Oh. I see," she said, drawing her own conclusion and dropping her gaze. "You didn't come for me after all. How stupid I am."
And even then, he struggled. He could see the potential shapes of the consequence he'd created and he didn't like them. He'd done something terrible and he had to repair it, but how--??
Tears began to spill from those green eyes. "I'm sorry, I'm just not good enough yet. I shouldn't... I shouldn't get involved." And, wiping her eyes, she'd turned to step back into the cage.
That, at least, he could respond to. "No, don't do that. It would only make things worse."
"What?" She half-turned, her mouth open in surprise.
"Would you like something to eat or drink?" That was probably a safe thing to ask in the situation. The government imprisoning her had been thoroughly disabled that morning. And newborns were often hungry.
"What?" she repeated, and then ran over to him. "Did you change your mind?"
Pleasantly, he said, "I think you did, but that's not an important detail at the moment. Why don't we sit down and talk about a few things?"
She promptly sat down, looking up at him with clear curiosity. He sat down on the ground too, refining his evaluation of her. "First of all, do you have a name of your own? One that doesn't belong to the Archon?"
"Nahida," she said, possibly for the first time. She looked a little surprised, in any case.
"I'm happy to meet you, Nahida. My name is Albedo." He gave her a friendly smile, and she stared at him like she was decoding his face. "Let's try to figure out what you'd like to do now."
"May I ask a question first?" She spoke with a respectfulness he didn't deserve. Not from her, anyhow. He'd have to earn it first.
"Please do. I'll do my best to answer it." While she formulated her thoughts, he began to synthesize some fish snacks he hoped she'd find palatable.
"Beyond your name, who are you?" It was a question carefully considered, and not the one he expected. But her earnest gaze remained fixed on him.
He considered his own response. It wasn't a question he was in the habit of answering. "Mostly, I plan things for other people. I'm quite clever and I've lived a long time compared to most, so I have certain advantages I enjoy sharing. In quite a few places, I'm considered a criminal, because what I help people do is often illegal. " He offered her the fish snacks. "I also engage in projects of my own, like this one."
She accepted one and nibbled on it. He observed as her eyes widened and she nibbled a bit more before finally making a face and putting it down. "I don't know how to taste it right. I'll work on it later."
"Is that what you want to do?" He saw this as a natural way of leading back to the core topic, but when she flinched, admitted to himself that such directness might have been a little cruel after already thrusting so much change on her unannounced.
"Do you think it tastes good?" she asked him uncertainly.
"Yes, I do."
She thought for a moment. "I'd like to learn to like it too, then. And I want to stay with you, please."
Did gods imprint? He'd never looked into the question. But the truth remained: she might be the god of wisdom, but she was also a powerful and traumatized child. If he walked away now, one way or another, she'd show up in his life again, the worse for it.
Calmly, he said, "Yes, I thought you might say that. Do you also want to rule Sumeru?"
She shrugged, curled up in a ball, rocked back and forth. "Sumeru is a dream to me, a world on the other side of pages and glass." Then she sat up again. "But you are somebody I never imagined existed. That seems more interesting than governing a country that doesn't want me to exist, all by myself."
"I agree," he said. "Still, having Sumeru on a stable footing may be useful in the future, so we should probably sort out the knot I made before we go on our way."

Note
with the chance of naming the wanderer all the "why does the traveller call you baby girl" "how about we stop talking for a while" memes can be 100% canon
everyday something happens that makes me feel worse for Nahida. just imagine being a ten year old god who got to leave your bedroom for the first time in 500 years, only to then immediately have to take in a little goth boy with a weird hat who's like twice your age but somehow only has half of your emotional maturity. okay, great, whatever. you're sorta the president now and still a ten year old so this probably doesn't seem that strange. he makes you call him The Wander for like a week because he's edgy, and you do it because you also let your head cop run around barefoot and shirtless so this is still pretty normal. at the end of that week, he goes on a day trip with the dude who helped you beat his ass and upon his return, promptly informs you that his name has been legally changed to Babygirl/Bastard/Some Other Embarrassing Thing. you're still ten years old. life is a nightmare and yours is never-ending.

Cutest 4 star designs (in my opinion) I was happy these were 4 star LOL
Layla to me is one of the most beautifully designed characters in the game 4 or 5 star, I love her hair, her moon theme with the shield, the dark blues with the white
Lynette and Freminet are very cute, have a great cat and penguin theme going, Lynette's outfit is especially beautiful
Kirara is just cute, cute hair, cat outfit, cat bus, all cute. Like Layla I feel her design could be 5 star easily
Yaoyao has the bunny theme and is just as cute as the 5 star chibis in my opinion, on par with Nahida and Klee
Fischl has the goth thing going on with the raven and the black and purple, just an unique design for Genshin and a cute outfit
Chevreuse has a military outfit, a GUN and french fries. Just iconic
Xiangling has the bear and on top of that she's free! A cute unique face too
Kaveh is very handsome, has a suitcase and reminds me of Howl from Howl's Moving Castle lol

It's a travesty that there hasn't been an event where Nahida, Ei, Zhongli, and Venti meet up for a little event or gathering.
If they met up in Mondstadt, then Ei could have some business with Albedo (Yae sending her there to get some experience out in the world and for a task relating to some commissioned work from Albedo), and Nahida and Wanderer could have some business with Lisa (perhaps some old literature or information relating to her elemental studies back from when she was an academic).
Venti and the Traveler can just wander in at any time, of course, but the hardest part is figuring out why Zhongli would be there. He could be traveling with Hu Tao so that she could collaborate on some poetry with Venti (which in the last Lantern Rite festival they did meet and connect) as well as to offer a bottle of wine to his old friend. Or maybe the Funeral Parlor could be on a high-paying commission relating to ghosts in the Goth Hotel. Make the whole event a spooky October hotel domain.
I really need Wanderer to interact with Mona and Ei now that Irminsul has been edited and neither of them remember him. I gotta put him in the painful situation of being trapped in a haunted hotel with both his mother (who does not remember him but can instantly see the likeness and her design) and the femboy Archon who granted him his vision. I need Nahida to explain things using really weird silly metaphors and for Ei to completely understand them (Paimon: Ehh?? That made sense to you??). I need Ei to not really get that Venti and Zhongli are in stealth. I want Venti to know what's going on with Wanderer as his Vision giver and for him to tease him. I absolutely need Hu Tao to mess with Ei and try to get her to rap with her.

Halloween Hijinks
Note: I think we were all a little emotionally devastated by that character teaser so I tried to riff on it a little here. It's a bit late for Halloween but I'm one of those spooky nerds, sorry, goths, who would be happy celebrating Halloween all the time.
Rating: Gen
Characters: Lumine, Paimon, Nahida
Summary: Now that Nahida is free from the Sanctuary of Surasthana, Lumine and Paimon decided to bring her along to Mondstadt for a much deserved night of fun.
Flowers. There were flowers everywhere. All I can see are flowers.
Nahida blinked slowly, her vision a riot of color as she began to wake up. For a moment, she forgot where she was, the strangeness of her surroundings activating a panic deep in her stomach. She grabbed at the colors and the rustling softness of them surprised her. It was then that she realized they weren’t real, just fabric, and she wasn’t trapped, just tangled.
In a dress, no, what had Lumine and Paimon called it?
“Heehee, it’s a flower fairy costume! Paimon thinks it suits you!”
“Costumes are traditional at Halloween. But it’s just a bit of fun, and for once I agree with Paimon, I think this costume will look very pretty on you.”
“Hey! What do you mean ‘for once!?’”
Hopping off the bed, she adjusted the diaphanous layers of her outfit enough to be presentable, and carefully padded down the stairs in Lumine’s abode, towards the happy commotion on the floor below. Paimon was floating in circles, trying to adjust the white scarf that somehow managed to be wrapped around her entire torso.
Lumine had a tender, if exasperated expression as she carefully untangled the fabric. Once it was floating freely as intended, she turned around, giving Nahida a brilliant smile.
“Hey! How did you sleep?”
“I slept well, thank you.” She looked between her new friends, trying to pinpoint what was different about them. “I must ask, why are you wearing each other’s clothes?”
“You noticed!” Paimon proudly placed her hands on her hips, “these are our costumes! I’m Lumine and Lumine is Paimon!”
“We thought it would be fun to switch.”
“But shouldn’t your costumes be more…” she concentrated, trying her best to find the right word, “fantastical?”
“That’s the fun of Halloween, you can dress up however you want!” Paimon wagged her finger as she spoke, “and Paimon really wanted to dress up as Lumine! But she said it was too dangerous for me to have a sword so it’s incomplete.”
She pouted briefly before floating in front of Nahida. “But that’s okay, Paimon looks great, and so does Lumine, since she’s dressed as Paimon! Nahida, did you want help finishing your costume?”
Nahida spun around in front of a nearby mirror, examining her outfit from every angle. “I don’t know, I thought I was ready?”
“Well, there are a few more things we could add, if you want?” Lumine held out a pair of opalescent wings, shimmering and delicate. “What do you think?”
Nahida nodded and held out her arms, patiently waiting while Lumine and Paimon fussed over her, adjusting her outfit and accessories until they both stepped back with scrutinous expressions.
“It needs…something. Paimon isn’t sure what though.”
“I’ve got just the thing!” Lumine reached into her sub-space bag and carefully pulled something out. Even without touching it, Nahida could sense the energy radiating off of the flower crown.
“Where did you-?” Her heart tightened at the feeling of energy that was distinct to Sumeru.
“It’s from the Aranara.” Lumine placed the crown on her head, her voice reverent, “oh, Nahida, it’s perfect.” Even Paimon fell silent, her starry eyes soft as she watched the small Archon twirl in front of the mirror.
“Are you sure it’s okay for me to wear this? A gift from the Aranara is not one to be taken lightly.” She couldn’t help but love it, feeling the affection and trust woven through each petal and leaf.
Lumine gave her a gentle smile, “I can’t imagine anyone else they’d let wear it.”
The air felt heavy, and almost solemn, until a growling noise cut through the silence. “Perhaps we have time for a snack before we leave?” Nahida giggled and blushed, holding her hands over her stomach.
“You read my mind!” Paimon giggled, “I think we have some leftover lotus seed crisp, come on!”
Nahida couldn’t help but laugh and followed, excited for both the food and the forthcoming adventure.
- - -
The trio had barely passed through the city gate of Mondstadt when a blur of blonde hair slammed into Lumine’s legs.
“Miss Lumine! Paimon! Happy Halloween!”
Lumine laughed, “hi Klee, happy Halloween.” She picked the giggling girl and held her in a tight hug, but it didn’t last long as she quickly wiggled out of her grasp.
“Nuh-uh, there’s more trick or treating to do. Hey, who are you?” Klee skipped towards Nahida, “I’m Klee! I’ve never seen you before, but I like your costume, it’s so pretty!”
“I’m Nahida,” she gave Klee a shy smile, “I like your cat costume. Are you also friends with Lumine and Paimon?”
“Thanks! Miss Lumine and Paimon are the best, and they always take Klee on the best adventures! Nahida, are you trick or treating? You should come with us, we can show you the best spots!”
Nahida glanced back at her friends, who nodded enthusiastically in return. “Thanks, I would love to!”
“Yay! Let’s go, let’s go! Klee and Kaeya have just gotten started!” Klee tightly grabbed her hand and pulled her down the street.
Lumine watched Paimon, Klee and Nahida stop at Schmidt’s Smithy, heartened to see Wagner himself pass out treat bags to each of them.
“Am I correct in assuming there’s more to little Nahida than meets the eye?”
She turned towards Kaeya, trying to keep a straight face in spite of the opulent pirate costume he was wearing. “And if all I said is that you’re right?”
“Well, I suppose I’ll be satisfied to hear you say it, and just have to live with a bit of mystery.” He nodded at her.
“Speaking of mysteries, why are you accompanying Klee? Where’s Albedo?”
Kaeya held out his hands, “I’ve also been escorting Klee on Halloween night for a few years now, so it’s a tradition at this point, right Klee?”
The little girl ran around both of them, “yeah, Kaeya is the best! He knows all the good spots to get the yummiest treats!” She held out her arms to balance before quickly returning to Paimon and Nahida, directing them to their next destination.
Finally they reached Angel’s Share, which was adorned with cheerful, festive decorations. When Lumine gave Kaeya a surprised look, he merely shrugged with his trademark inscrutable grin. Before they could approach the tables, a warm, soft breeze, strewn with dandelion seeds, enveloped them.
“It’s you, I’ve finally found you.” Venti hovered above them on outstretched wings, his white and gold outfit reminiscent of the Barbatos statues strewn across Mondstadt. He landed on the ground and kneeled in front of Nahida, immediately taking her into his arms, his wings enclosing them.
They conversed softly, with Nahida melting into Venti’s embrace the more he spoke to her. Lumine looked at Kaeya, who nodded and led Klee to the tables laden with treats.
Lumine trusted Venti the most out of all the Archons, but she was still protective of Nahida given everything she went through. As the conversation continued, she could feel her resolve weaken, especially when Nahida laughed at something Venti said and it lit up her whole face. He wiped away an errant tear on her cheek and stood up, taking her hand and walking over to Lumine and Paimon.
“Tone-Deaf Bard! What are you even supposed to be in that outfit?”
“Why I’m Barbatos of course!” Before anyone could object, he winked and held a finger to his lips, “who better to be than the god of freedom and song?”
“That’s not how this is supposed to work!” Paimon stomped her foot in mid-air, “Halloween is ‘come as you aren’t,’ not ‘come as who you really are!’”
“I don’t think those are all that different?” Venti gave them a sly smile, his wings folding neatly against his back.
“I hadn’t considered it before, but I think there is some truth to that.” Nahida looked up at them with a thoughtful expression, “in a way, the self we present to the public is a kind of costume, so using a light-hearted holiday to simply dress as another version of ourselves seems ideal. But it’s also fun!” She giggled and grabbed Venti’s hand, “Barbatos, or Venti, thank you for welcoming me to Mondstadt, I’ve been wanting to visit for so long.”
“Nahida, I couldn’t wait to meet you. And of course Mondstadt will always be open to Sumeru, the Dendro Archon, and those she holds dear. But come on, there’s delicious food to be had and mulled wine to sample!”
Lumine approached the first few tables, “Hi Charles, I like your adventurer costume, it looks very snappy!”
The bartender laughed and looked a bit sheepish, “it’s nice to see you again Lumine, or should I say Paimon?”
“Hey Paimon’s right here! But it’s definitely a good costume, Charles. Now Paimon heard there might be some candy?”
“There’s mulled wine and Diluc’s special blend of grape juice, plus candy for anyone in costume, so here you go!” Paimon, Klee, and Nahida compared their candy while Lumine grabbed some grape juice for later and Venti and Kaeya both grabbed steaming cups of mulled wine.
“Ah, nothing hits the spot on a cool autumn evening quite like a spicy cup of mulled wine!” Venti grinned, “between all the decorations and treats, it would appear Angel’s Share is the spot to beat.”
“Just like every other year, it’s unlikely to beat the Knights of Favonius,” Kaeya replied in mock resignation. “But it’s certainly a good try.”
“Is there an actual competition?”
“Not really, it’s just bragging rights based purely on gossip. But the Knights of Favonius has been picked as the Halloween spot every year for as long as anyone can remember. I think this might be Angel’s Share year, especially with this delicious wine.”
“Hmm, the mulled wine is good,” Kaeya finished his cup and stood up from the table with one last look at Venti, “but we’ve got Noelle. Happy Halloween, bard.”
- - -
“Nahida! Look, this is Klee’s home. Well, it’s not Klee’s home with mommy, but this is where Klee lives with Albedo, and Jean, and Kaeya, and Sucrose, what do you think?”
“Whoa Kaeya, you weren’t kidding!” Paimon, Lumine, and Nahida stopped and stared at the Knights of Favonius headquarters. Pumpkins, spiderwebs, and autumnal foliage galore adorned the majestic building, making it look like something out of a fairy tale, and the inside was even more well adorned.
“Lumine, Paimon, it’s so good to see you again!” Jean greeted them warmly, “and Happy Halloween to all of you, including your friend!”
“I’m Nahida, just visiting from Sumeru for the festivities. Thank you so much for having me!”
“We’re glad to have you, Nahida!” A bright voice came from behind Jean, and Amber joined the rest of the group, bouncing on her heels in excitement. “I’m Baron Bunny, I mean Amber!” She winked and touched the rabbit ears and goggles on her head before holding out her hand, “if you’d like, I can show you around?”
“Oooh yes please Amber, you’ll know where Paimon can get all the best snacks, right?”
“Leave it to me!”
True to her word, Amber brought them to every station in the common area, making sure they had their fill of pumpkin shaped Moon Pies, moon shaped pumpkin pies, and enough candy to keep Paimon awake for a week.
Once they sat down, Nahida spoke up first, “Klee, do you have a favorite snack?”
“I really like fish, but there’s none here.” She pouted briefly and examined her plate, her face quickly lighting up with a smile, “Moon Pie! Miss Eula is the best and she makes the best Moon Pies, and she made a bunch for Halloween, you hafta try them!”
Nahida took a bite and chewed thoughtfully, “a flaky crust, plus a smoky, savory filling, laced with warm spices,” she swallowed, beaming, “this is wonderful, thank you Klee!”
“Welcome!” The young girl kicked her feet and giggled before starting on her own Moon Pie, a contented silence falling over the table as everyone enjoyed their food.
Throughout the meal, Nahida would ask questions, taking in responses with an earnest expression before moving on to the next topic. The busy night and delicious Moon Pies got the better of Klee, and soon she was resting her head on her forearms, nearly asleep at the table.
“It appears Halloween is over for our little Spark Knight,” Kaeya murmured and gently picked her up. He touched a finger to the brim of his hat, and everyone offered small waves and whispered salutations in reply before the cavalry captain headed upstairs to the living quarters.
“You had so many firsts tonight Nahida, what did you think?” Lumine gave her a hopeful smile.
“Lumine, Paimon, thank you for inviting me, this was such a fun evening!” Eyes shining, she continued, “it would have been enough to spend tonight with both of you, but being able to meet so many new people, along with having so many new experiences, I couldn’t ask for more!”
“Nahida,” Paimon spoke softly, stellar eyes shining, “we’re so glad you could come!”
Lumine nodded in agreement, “there’s so much to see in the world, you’re welcome to join us any time.”
“Yup, that’s true! Paimon can’t wait to show you all the tasty snacks Teyvat has to offer!”
“The value of real world experience is incalculable, and I would like to spend some more time here. Thank you both for the kind words and offer.”  She let out an unexpected yawn, “but I’m afraid I may need to retire for the night as well.”
They gathered their things and made their way towards the door, collecting a group of people as they walked, including Jean, Amber, and Kaeya. Everyone was waving and offering treats, and Lumine could tell Nahida was getting overwhelmed, so she took her hand to help guide her.
Nahida turned to her new friends, “thank you everyone, and Happy Halloween!” And with one last wave, they headed out the door.

note to self, wishing priorities:
upcoming character banners—
1. AL HAITHAMMM (c0)
2. Hu Tao (c1), maybe Yelan? I’m not saving on it, i’ll just pull as i progress
upcoming weapon banners—
I’ll pull on both if I have the funds to spare, but seeing leak predictions, I might start saving by the second half and invest more into characters, since that’s what matters most to me.
predicted character banners—
1. Eula (c2) + Mika (c6)
2. Shenhe (c0)
3. Ayaka (c0)
predicted weapon banners—
1. Broken pines (r1)
Honestly, I’m tempted to pull on Ayaka and Shenhe’s weapon, just for the satisfaction of having it but it isn’t crucial. I’m really hoping for Eula’s instead.
So my priorities end up simplified to Al Haitham, Eula’s c1 + c2, as well as her signature weapon? That’s actually quite simple. Lucky me. But if Shenhe’s there I’ll have to pull each 160 just to say I tried, she’ll be crucial in the future (I also love her).
In the long term future though, I’ll have to save for Ganyu, Ayaka, Ayato and Kokomi as priorities. With Yae’s c1, Shartaglia, and Nahida coming next.
Ughhehdhjdje then there’s fontaine too 😢(😈) hehehehdnehjekmem. mmmm Focalors and captain lady and goth girl and oh my god I just remembered they’ll be featuring new harbingers too NOOOOOO. I am torn.
I’ll end this with a prayer that, if i lose my 50/50 lawd let it be to the wolf’s gravestone and aquila favonia. AND PRAYER TO THE SACRED WINDS FOR MY DPS SUCROSE.

sort of. "taking over" directly is one option — but imo that's not signora's style, and she was the one assigned to mondstadt. signora, as seen in liyue and inazuma, prefers to use the chaos of another situation as cover for her own plans, which tend to be more on forcing negotiations to happen with the fatui having overwhelming advantage (inazuma was derailed; she already had an audience with the shogun until the traveler crashed the party to have a duel to the death).
the plan for mondstadt was more of: 1) use the fatui's presence to pressure mondstadt to not resolve things peacefully (similar to how they used delusions to keep the war in inazuma go on for longer); 2) make mondstadt owe the fatui a favor for when the fatui stepped in to solve the stormterror problem for them.
luke (in front of goth grand hotel) says as much. and this is also why jean in the prologue was helping diluc as "jean" and not as the "acting grand master".
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the tsaritsa can't predict when venti wakes up, but if a dragon (and not just any dragon, but one of the four winds) is causing chaos in mondstadt, I'm pretty sure she can deduce that venti already woke up. by that point, they don't need to take over mondstadt. dvalin is the perfect distraction to lure barbatos out, and before the traveler arrived there's really only one person who tried to calm him down through direct interaction.
and at THAT point, once you figure out venti (bard, not knight) is barbatos, you don't even need the fatui to step in and cause unnecessary tension between nations unless the knights are truly incompetent at doing their jobs. just let venti take care of the mess and then snatch the gnosis from him later.
what's interesting is that the fatui still hasn't left mondstadt after stormterror. nahida took care of the dottoclones, inazuma had peace talks and got rid of their own fatui presence, but mondstadt's hotel is still fully booked for the fatui. I guess with varka not around, it's just more advantageous to stay for a while and establish their presence. it's not like pantalone is lacking in funds.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but we know viktor (church npc) has nothing to do in mondstadt, which is why he left for sumeru. so I guess... now the fatui in mondstadt are just on stand by indefinitely?
ok I have so many questions so I'm just gonna talk about sumn rq.
so yk how when you first start genshin and fight dvalin Fatuis are trying to kind of take over monstadt.
It made me wonder that, Tsaritsa just wanted the gnosis.
but Venti was MIA so there's no way she could have gotten it. And she COULDN'T have predicted when venti will wake up either. she can't control that.
Do you think the original plan was to kinda take over mondstadt and take away it's "freedom" to wake up venti?
cause acc to the manga venti woke up when the tyranny got too much so was tsaritsa trying to recreate it or sumn?
Unless tsaritsa knew what the abyss did to dvalin (or idk helped the abyss) I don't see how she could've predicted dvalin's factor into her plan beforehand but the fatui were there for a long time if I'm not wrong.
So was tsaritsa gonna infringe on the "freedom" to get the gnosis if venti didn't wake up on his own?
cause she used contract/eternity/wisdom against the gods of each of the nations right? Using what they value the most for their people. So it makes sense I think.
or am I just overthinking this?
