so, let’s go over my top five favorite fics I wrote (and finished) this year, not in any order

Tapes and Face me

This one is a twofer, mostly because they’re connected. I’m very proud of tapes because I really wanted to capture that analog horror feel, mostly because my irl friend was really obsessed with the Mandela catalogue at the time. Face me was like my first huge foray into whump. My favorite part of this fic was Sylvia and Anya’s relationship, and the letters Anya wrote to her as “mission reports”.

Open eyes

I wish this one got more love and attention. It was a very weird character study I wrote where Twilight meets Loid Forger and Redacted, who are separate but also the same as him. It bounced off from @buf309’s doppelgänger comic, but sort of became its own thing, it even had some fanart that I’m too eepy to find rn, I’ll have to reblog it later.

Tastes like blood

an idea that was over a year in the making, where Yor gets to enact revenge on someone for (almost) killing her husband on their wedding night. This fic is so important to me because Maya Rowan, the would-be killer, was such a fun character to write. I love her so much. This fic did have a sequel that I have yet to finish unfortunately, but IT WILL BE DONE (at some point)

Clementine

your stock standard “Anya gets kidnapped by those gosh darn scientists” plot, based on my initial interpretation of the song “my darling Clementine”, where, in my mind, it was about a father who lost his daughter in the river, and he couldn’t swim, so he “lost his Clementine”. The “swim” here was meant to represent how twilight couldn’t deal with his own feelings for his daughter, so he lost her, but then he gets her back again, fighting tooth and nail to keep her safe. For those who don’t know, I am especially weak for father-daughter stories (my relationship with my dad is great dw) so this one his very close to my heart. The scene where Loid finally says “I love you” to Anya was inspired by Ai Hoshino’s death scene from Oshi no ko (which unfortunately ended very badly this year, spare yourself the trouble and just look up Ai’s death scene, that’s as peak as the story gets) and I was listening to the ost of her death scene while writing it. And my god does it just tear you up inside.

also his mom’s ghost saying “you’ve been holding her like that all along” still rips me to shreds okay?

what CANT I say about this fic? It’s, imo, my magnum opus. It was so goddamn cathartic to write it. If you’re going to read it, please, please mind the trigger warnings.

getting on with that, this fic is so important to me. It started out as a very angsty whump fic that somehow became a very personal look into a narrative about self harm and coming to terms with one’s existence. Really, if you’re in the right headspace, I would suggest you read it. BUT ONLY IF YOU’RE IN THE RIGHT HEADSPACE. it genuinely reflects a lot of the dark thoughts I’ve struggled with since my hospitalization when I was thirteen. I hope that, if I can find some catharsis in it, maybe you can too.

Oh my gosh! At that time (killer whale) music videos were such a thing on youtube and there were several that I just loved. Sadly most have been taken down by now. But at the time I watched them over and over and they inspired me to make my own. To hear that you found in my video what I found in those of others warms my heart honestly ;w; You made me rewatch some of my old videos and oh the nostalgia. All the potato quality clips scrounged from obscure corners of the internet (or, you know, other people's videos) or with HUGE watermarks slapped on top loooolll. But at the same time they gave me goosebumps from the fond memories. For everyone who wants to have fun with us, this is the video (it's in HD!)

And seeing my Dolphin Academy videos again... oof. Almost ten years ago. My life has gone in such a different direction but I'll never forget those months and almost on the daily I think how grateful I am for all I've seen and learned there.

I don't know if you know the song "This Side of Paradise" by Coyote Theory but that song always makes me think of Jason Todd. Like just-

It's two in the morning and you're dancing with Jason in the kitchen as that song plays. It's something akin to slow dancing, even if it doesn't fit the song neither of you mind. You just giggle and continue to dance, enjoying the peace of that moment. Two lost lonely souls that manage to find solace in each other, it's far from perfect but it's enough.

Um, yeah, anywho that songs makes me think of Jason and I wanted to share that with you.

oh my gosh that song reminds me so much of 2020…the amount of time i spent listening to it!!! sigh

this is the sweetest picture ever and i’m holding it in my pocket to look at at when i’m blue. like i can just imagine it, the only light being the one above the stove, because you’d gone to get a drink and he comes in grumbling about you standing in the dark by yourself like a serial killer or something, flicking on the light.

him stepping up to take a sip of your drink, just because he wants to be a little closer to you and there’s an understated intimacy in sharing drinks that he secretly holds so close. the first time you offered him a sip of your drink, way back when the both of you were friends and you’d begun to feel more comfortable around him, his heart had felt so icky and warm.

and you’re pressing close into his side, which turns to fully in his arms when you’re done with your drink and your phone is on the counter and jason just reaches for it to check the time but somehow he finds himself dancing in the kitchen with you while that song plays quietly from the counter.

it’s a little clumsy because the both of you are still sleepy and you can’t really see where you’re stepping so you can hear the rustling of your clothes, the steps of your feet against the floor and the tired little giggles you let out when you bump into each other, having taken the wrong step.

‘come be lonely with me’ is so very much jersey boy! jason to reader i think. but also just in general i think there’s something so sacred about finding someone you genuinely care about and who cares about you after feeling lonely for so long.

Killing Stalking AU:

Okay when I read Killing/stalking I was a bit disapointed. Too much killing not enough stalking -_-

And so Imagine Luo Binghe who is a serial killer instead of wives it's girlfriends and instead of marrying them he kills them. And Shen Yuan, who bought the apartment just to observe such a thing ends up obsessed he calls the victims 'wives' till death do they part, and he has an obsession with the seriel killer.

Like bordering on gay but he's still in denial.

Already he has a list of all the names of the girls, Ning Yingying was the first and now he's up to Qui Haitang, already he counted that Luo BInghe was accumilating an anti-harem.

Shen Yuans room is FULL of photos, clothes, even HAIR of Binghe as well as Luo Binghe in a apron, bloody and cleaning up his mess.

Shen Yuan loved him. Quircks and all.

But he wasn't stupid, not only was the evidence of Binghe's crimes in this room, footage and videos of girls going into Luo Binghes house then NEVER returning, wanted posters and last places they were timed perfectly. A little plushie doll of Luo Binghe as well in a corner. But he also hid evidence around the city, places with his name on it, most were holding his anime stuff but after the first five lockers the rest were filled with nothing but Binghe's crimes. He never went back to the old ones, to obvious instead he would pay for a new locker and fill that one up.

And Sy whose still in the closet probably thought it was normal to react, esp seeing the stallion having sex with the women in his bedroom, with his camera Shen Yuan could see everything.

At one point it even felt like Luo Binghe looked up and locked eyes with him, it made Shen Yuans breath hitch. It wasn't possible, it was dark, lights out, and Shen Yuan shivered palming himself, so hard it was the point of pain.

And this was when he decided to get closer.

Shen Yuan wears a disguise, Luo Binghe didn't like men, only women. So Shen Yuan wears a wig, with a hat and glasses and actually nice clothes. He dresses nicer as a women than he would as himself, in just sweats and loose jumpers.

He sits at a cafe and watches a girl on Luo Binghes arm Wife #32 Shen Yuan couldn't believe he was sitting right next to them.

And each time he would get closer, changing his looks, and disguise, practically listening in. Listen to the lies Luo Binghe would say, his favourite colour? Song? Movie?

Shen Yuan saw into his house, he knew what Luo Binghes interests were better than these wives.

He got too close once, when a wife dropped her wallet, he picked it up.

"Excuse me?"

She turned with a sneer on her face, that was usually how people reacted to Shen Yuan, like he was gross. He knew he would look alright with decent clothes hair cut, but he had that attention before, he didn't want it again.

But seeing it was just a small girl with a face mask pacing her her wallet with kind eyes, the sneer fell away into surprise.

"Oh my gosh! Thank you!"

"It's no problem, I understand the stress of losing your credit cards and having to cancel them and start over- I'm overally clumsy like that aha."

Luo Binghe was staring at him, and Shen Yuan couldn't help but shiver at the attention.

At that moment thats when Shen Yuan realised something, back in the comfort of his home. He may actually like Luo Binghe...

well...it's just Luo Binghe, right? maybe he's just bi and only likes him?

Either way, he kept skirting around him, until the wife inevitably died and he sat at the cafe, waiting for Binghe with his next fiance-

"Hello, miss. I thought I'd find you here."

Shen Yuan held back a flinch as he glanced up, "Ah hello there, I kinda recognise you," Shen Yuan leaned closer as Luo Binghe sat down before him but internally he was freaking out.

Was he wearing the same disguises over and over!?

Did Luo Binghe figure him out!?!?!?

"My names Luo Binghe, and you are?"

"Um," Quick think of a name! "Xiao Gongzhu."

"Little palace mistress? Hmm suits you."

Like hell it does! But that was the only thing he could think off!

"I was just wondering," Luo Binghe looked bashful, and it broke Shen Yuan out of his thoughts, he looked so boyish it was cute.

"Could we trade numbers?"

What? He killed Wife #32 already? wait- was Luo Binghe seriously seeing Shen Yuan as a potential wife!?

This was bad- it was going to mess up Luo Binghes streak! He was the protagonist, he couldn't mess up because he was accidently tricked by a man!

Also the not-dying thing would be great and if Shen Yuan didn't go back to his apartment and pay rent then the landlord will come in and SEE all of his evidence, Binghe would go to jail!

"Uh yeah sure- I mean yes!" Shen Yuan spoke then grimaced at how flustered he was, even so he still couldn't believe it- Binghe's number!

Luo Binghe hummed "Hmm I'll put you as Princess, if thats okay I like giving pretty girls like you pet names. You can think of a name for me too."

"Hmm, I like Bingpup, you're like a cute puppy who deserves head pats!" Shen Yuan spoke and saw Luo Binghe's smile stiffened.

Shen Yuan immedietly preened aha thats right! Luo Binghe hates being called dog or mutt! He found out that Luo Binghe had an awful teacher who would call him that in school! He found that out by waiting for Binghe to take wife #16 on a date and bugged his house!

When they were getting intimate after their pillow talk Luo Binghe admitted such a sad thing.

Because wife#16 called him a good puppy during foreplay, and when she said she'd never do it again he agreed and said she won't then straggled her. Shen Yuan listened to that footage over and over again.

When Luo Binghe stood up, Shen Yuan giggled "Oh and one more thing." He stood up too, flipping his hair over his shoulder.

"If you think you can take me as the next wife, you can forget it."

Luo Binghe paused looking confused, "I'm sorry?"

"I know your type, playboy. You have a fiance wine and dine, but after the first night your the type to believe in death do us part." Shen Yuan emphansised the smile on Luo Binghe's face faded. "This is amazing, the Luo Binghe! I'm such a huge fan," Shen Yuan kept his voice low, so the other patrons at the cafe wouldn't here. "I actually liked Liu Mingyan, such a good girl she knew martial arts as well. Pity, but I don't plan to be accumulated into your 'harem' I don't like to share. No, I prefer to watch."

Luo Binghe eyes narrowed, "Do you think it's a good idea to be telling me this?" Shen Yuan looked at him with pity, "I can't help it, your so cute and I didn't want to lie to that face when I turned you down. it's not any of Binghe's fault, I just genuinly like to watch, if we cross that step I'm afraid I'll have to die of shame." Before he left he also glanced back, "Oh, and I'm a collector by the way, I have evidence all around Shang hai completely hidden unless I mysteriously disapear, someone is bound to find everything. See you around, Husband."

Shen Yuan flaunced away, knowing he was being followed, thank GOD for public bathrooms, he walked in, immedielty removing his wig, hoodie and skirt and pulling on his baggy and drabby clothes, and oiled up his hair to look more greasy and gross espeically from wearing a wig, he dumped the back in the bin and walked out, slouching and on his phone, he walked past Luo Binghe who stayed leaning against pillar waiting for the 'women' to leave the bathroom.

Shen Yuan still didn't trust it, hailing a taxi and purposfully going the awkward way to get to his apartment. Even then he decided to back track and couch surf on his friends sofa instead, just to be safe.

Even so, when he recieved a text from Binghe, vaguely threating him, promising he'll find him and kill him, Shen Yuan shivered feeling his breathing hasten.

"You can try, Husband."

So long story short, Liu Qingge is the policemen interogating his sisters mysterious death, finds Shen Yuan and believe him to be a victim of domestic abuse, and yeah both Luo Binghe AND Shen Yuan are playing cat and mouse the power imbalances keep changing, and at one point, Shen Yuan finds himself actually going on dates with Luo Binghe, even helping him take down a wife with his 'husband' it's such a rush. And for a moment even Luo Binghe felt affection for Shen Yuan and didn't care that it was revealed he was a guy, even started having some fucked up moments of his own, comparing Shen Yuan to his mother. Shen Yuan: Hello police? Theres a man with a milf kink send him to jail!

Even so theres honeymoon moments, SY actually spends a night in Binghes house but thats where it all goes wrong, SY is now a wife, he just doesn't die straight away, forced to being trapped in the kitchen dressed as a women and still playing their cat and mouse game as Luo Binghe is trying to force him to reveal his evidence, he claims he'll stay with Shen Yuan properlly if he does. And then SY at one point escapes the house, finds Liu Qingge and confesses everything and even gives him the keys to his apartment and the locations of the lockers with the evidence.

Luo Binghe finds him, says he saw SY with another man, had he grown bored with him?

Pretty much ends the same way as Killing Stalking both die in the end, Luo Binghe dying alone, and SY still thinking he's alive and is frazzled ends up going into on-going traffic.

-I think with the story it was supposed to end tragically, because neither were good people, but I just hated how the character in KS was reduced to an innocent uwu who was sexualised but didn't have a braincell- I would've preffered if there was some intellectual schemes, like KIRA VS L both smart people trying to one up the other and maybe just a hint of romance, delusion on both sides, Binghe finally seeing SY as his partner in literal crime but then because of jealousy ends up trying to kill SY after he's another Wife isn't he?

THIS BOY IS THE LOVE OF MY LIFE. Seriously though, I've been loving him and writing him since 2011? give or take? he has remained my favorite character through so many years. Reading along when the chapters were still being released monthly was a time and following along with him and his part in the story has really made me love him the way that I do.

and yes I am !! I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. Gosh I don't even know where to begin I could literally talk about him and them forever. I will say though they are my favorite dynamic in the series. I think they are a perfect blend, and for Break, Gil is like the spitting image of him and all his past mistakes. Break brings Gil in on their plan because they plan to use him. It was always supposed to be business transaction them working together. Break training him to be the killer he was going to have to be if he was going to get Oz back. He had no choice but to be hard on him. And throughout their ten years together, break made the mistake of caring for gilbert. I think part of it is Break needing gil to stay focused so their plan doesn't get ruined, but also because he sees similarities between himself and Gil. Break also had a deep loyalty for his previous master. his grief, his failure to protect the people he cared for lead him down such an awful path and he lost a lot because of it.

He warns Gilbert several times, and when Vincent basically poisons his mind, Break is the first person to notice. There's where they are silly for the comedic relief and Break is always making fun of him, but I really feel Break is the one who really sees Gil for Gil. There was a fic I read, that I loved how they depicted Break and Gil. Gil had gotten drunk, and wasn't the first time but this was before they got Oz back, and Break is once again calling him pathetic as he's lifting him up on his feet and Gil goes 'Are you really surprised?' and Break any other day would have teased him, but he just sees the reality of everything weighing down on Gil's shoulders and he just answers 'no.'

AND UGH IT HURTS. Also just the parallels between them?? Like when Break finds Gil in the rain, he's carrying Gil on his back and then grown up, Gil is the one carrying Break ;-; LIKE COME ON

and even tho break is horrible to him on a daily basis, he still CARES very much for Break. When everyone was in the room after he passes out at Sablier, Gil looks awful and he's wanting to be sentimental before Break shoves Emily in his face cuz FEELINGS.

Or how he was uspet Break hadn't trusted him enough with that fact he was an illegal contractor. He was like '10 years I've known you!' he's hurt break still doesn't consider him someone he can trust.

As a ship they are not healthy, I very much enjoy the 'this is just business' kind of relationship where they both use each other for different things they are looking for, but still both unable to really act on their feelings for each other because #complicated

Nicotine by Panic! At the Disco is a song I really love for them because I think it really shows Gil's perspective of how this is bad for me but I can't quite stop. 'Just one more hit and then we're through cuz you could never love me back' its very much onesided. also i think it works perfectly with how Break tricked Gil into basically being addicted to smoking NNFDKLNDS

but they both really grow throughout the series, and when Gil comes back for Oz, minus an arm, Break overhearing everything and saying how he doesn't have to worry about Gilbert anymore just GOD IT MAKES MY HEART REALLY ACHE. i love them.

also this was before we had more info on the children of misfortune, and break is a very special case, but we love Gilbert being like Glen and sending Break to the abyss. ITS GOOD AND HURTFUL FOOD. GAHH. okay like I said I could talk about them forever. and I wish the rp side of the fandom was more alive cuz I reaaaaaallly miss writing him and just, being able to talk about him. So if you ever have stuff you wanna ask please do !!! I seriously love it and I will happily ramble about him with you.

🎵What would Bobo's favorite song be?

I'd say it's the first song she heard from Baentu, which I give a little snippet in Baentu's ref. Gosh I still need to set something up before I feel like I can share Baentu. Which so far is mostly resting on me actually designing the man-eating beasts in the Mycelind Kingdom but I just haven't yet. (I think it's mostly because finding the refs I want takes longer now as I have to consider if what I'm looking at it ai-generated or not.)

I only have a few words of the song as I'm not musically-inclined. My idea being behind it that it's a heartbreak song but Baentu's aludes to it not really being one, just a bit of poking fun at love songs, break up songs, and such as Baentu's aroace. Don't know if I can actually get that idea across if I ever do attempt to write the lyrics. Which would be all I'd be able to do, I can only roughly read sheet music. I'm thinking it would be in the rock/metal genre with some screamo elements. (Keep in mind my grasp of music genres is kind of weak.)

🕑 What time does Bobo generally wake up at?

I actually still haven't figured out her schedule- I want to be wild and say 4 am but really I should plan out what her schedule usually looks like so I can have an actual answer.

Okay I penned up a rough idea of what her schedule could be and I hope it's not realistic and that I can fine-tune it because I have it suggesting to me that Bobo does wake up at 4am and goes to bed around 11pm. Which would be roughly 5 hours of sleep... which again we pulling into the fantasy/videogame logics as how can someone survive years of so little sleep? Adults are supposed to get at least 8 hours of sleep (unless they have lucky genetics) and anyone younger tends to need more sleep than that.

I know she's going to have several different schedules for different days too as I didn't cover international affairs, working out, fight practice, time to visit Baentu, and such. Actually I should try figuring out what all the government official positions would be and that might help me better fine-tune her schedules. I know I have ideas for their being councils to handle certain parts of the government.

Twst Bobo should take advantage of her situation and let herself get more sleep but she doesn't want to struggle with fixing her schedule if she ever does get back home. Plus she can use all the free time for studying (like geez Grim and MC must have terrible grades as surely it's like them skipping middle school and going straight to high school) and for getting to try things she never had time for before. Like woodcarving, painting, and with some outside encouragement, video games.

So uh, tldr: Bobo has a habit of waking up at 4 am.

💢 What's one thing that's sure to piss off Bobo?

Poking fun of the people from her kingdom. Trying to suggest that her kingdom isn't made up of humans or that they're all freaks. Along with just not taking the threats her kingdom faces all that seriously. Calling her a child, immature, someone incapable of running a kingdom. Also just disrespecting boundaries, whether that be her own or the others' around her. She's also a sore loser.

For example, Twst Bobo will snap if someone won't stop trying to touch her face. Most likely this type of provocation will cause her to physically lash out, whether that just be slapping a hand away or trying to squeeze someone's fingers with the idea to break them before snapping out of it. I know already that when it comes to VDC, Bobo cries out of anger that NRC loses. She's quite loyal so despite thinking the song Vil commissioned is generic and lame, that's her team! Bobo then holds a grudge against Neige, but I can't see her actually lashing out at him as he's depicted as so nice. So she'd probably just come off as grumpy in Neige's presence.

Basically Bobo has a temper that can flare up when it comes to pitting herself and those she cares about against something/someone else. Otherwise she tends to be able to keep it under control. If her temper breaks, she's usually able to reclaim control over herself rather quick. Usually she attempts to deal with her anger when she works out. Sometimes she gets way too invested in competitions and losing will upset her greatly.

💔 Have they ever experienced heartbreak?

Well I do have it planned than in her adult years that she'll probably have a few failed relationships, so I would think that counts? So she never really experienced any in her childhood. The closest she got in childhood was having a little kid crush on a rock-metal idol. Which of course didn't progress further than that. Though I suppose that just covers romantic heartbreak. I've usually only heard heartbreak when speaking of romantic feelings.

She was definitely heartbroken when her parents suddenly died when she was just eight-years-old. I think I have heard heartbreak being used in terms of familial bonds. Bobo had nightmares for quite a while when they died and actually couldn't sleep without a couple of plushies too. I haven't decided if the plushies are bats or goats. Eventually she did stop having nightmares but it took a little longer for her to no longer need the plushies to be able to fall asleep.

🧭 How easily can they find their way? Do they get lost easily?

That's a bit of a tough one to answer. Bobo does like to explore when she can, but she's grown up with tech that she's never had to worry about not having a signal. Tech that's set up to alert guards to her last location if it were to die or something were to go wrong. It's hard to say she can get lost when her kingdom's version of a phone/tablet can easily guide her back.

I do want to say she won't get lost all that easily as she has a rather great memory. So she takes notes of certain landmarks to give her a vague idea of the path she's taking and thus can backtrack if needed. Though if she were to fall somewhere with no easy way back up, then Bobo could possibly get lost. Especially easier for her to get lost if everything looks the same. With her eyesight, landmarks are usually certain glowing mushrooms and/or something that stands out in color.

💡 What's an idea that they once had that made others go "That's not gonna work," but it still worked?

I have several ideas and points for what Bobo's life may be like, mostly her childhood, but I haven't thought out too many specific stories. So I don't know if she's ever had a crazy plan that worked out. I feel like characters that are able to pull off wild stunts are usually ones that think outside of the box and/or not considered someone who thinks rationally/reasonably.

I'd like to think Bobo is quite reasonable. Even if she were to give an idea that causes others to doubt, she'd likely explain it until others can see what she sees. Also she likes to have others understand any of her plans so they can help correct any bits or give better ideas if they have them. If it is a wild idea that others may doubt, she might not even give others a chance to hear what the idea is.

Like the only one I can think of that counts would be the alt-route I wrote for Twst's Phantom Bride event. Bobo wasn't confident her idea would work, but she was certain that at the very least it could buy them all more time.

I'M FROTHING AT THE MOUTH OVER THIS AHHHHHHHH THE SONG THE SCENES OHHHH MY GOSH

Okay, okay, I love the opening, Eclipse holding a tied-up Y/N who's utterly terrified! Ah! Delicious. The moon above the empty, gray lakeside with Eclipse as the prominent dark figure in the scene is so, so good! I also adore how well done Y/N falling into the water is and the transition to the birthday cake with a spotlight on Y/N alone is gorgeous. The darkness around Y/N matches Eclipse's silhouette and when he steps out of it and into the spotlight to grab Y/N's hair, it makes me feral!!!

Also, the close-up of Eclipse, looming in the shadows with his smile and pupils glowing bright yellow is so sinister and terrifying. It puts me on edge just stopping the frame to look at him, augh! Poor Y/N! AND ANOTHER LOVELY TRANSITION! The shove towards the birthday cake turned into a drop into a shallow grave is *mwah* exquisite!

Also, I don't know if it's just me but I love that this moon/scenery when Y/N looks up to find Eclipse leaning over them with a shovel looks a lot like the lakeside with the moon hanging overhead. And Eclipse tilting his head to eclipse the moon is so cool! The knife tossed down to Y/N, and their expression shifting from victim to perpetrator, is so well done. You can feel Y/N growing angry and out of control with the motion of climbing up to take a stab at Eclipse! They are fed up and scared and want to do something unspeakable to him!!! Ahhhh!

Also, I love that this changes the way the song is being applied. With Y/N waking up out of a nightmare from snapping and trying to kill Eclipse, the music singing "I can't decide whether you should live or die" hits so much harder because it's not about Eclipse anymore. It's about Y/N. What are they going to decide? I just think that's so clever and a great way to twist it around to exactly what Eclipse wants from Y/N—maybe not his death personally—but certainly his goal is to craft Y/N into the perfect killer. Just, augh, I'm rattling you so hard right now!

The footsteps and the little motions behind Y/N as Eclipse shuts the blinds are so spooky, and I love Y/N's realization just as Eclipse's devilish smile appears! The shine of his optics reflecting in Y/N's is just *chef's kiss* and I am devouring this whole!

My headcanon is that after meeting Serial Killer!Eclipse or maybe even after finding out his intentions for them, Officer!Y/N will often have nightmares that hunting for Eclipse will slowly turn them into a killer. And of course, we have to have an unexpected visit from the man himself 🤭

pre-death tate and before all the brainwashing from the house

Shouting and arguments is all that's heard in the house. Tate was sick of it, sick of everything his mother was doing. Ruining his family by killing his dad and beloved beau, and he never liked how his mother tried replacing his dad. Trying to pretend their family is perfect again, well it’s not when there’s a killer in the family. When Tate found out how beau died, he started to go insane. Oh how much hatred he felt for Larry, but when things started to go out of hand in the house. He would always resolve it with alcohol, going to the usual bar near his school. So that’s where Tate went after school today, he couldn’t handle another second in that house with his mother.

Tate plugged in his earphones into his ipod and jammed them into his ears, blasting them with nirvana as he took the path to the bar. As he was walking, Tate looked up at the sky, admiring how the dark clouds were starting to cover the light blue ones. Until someone accidentally bumped into him.

“ Shit shit shit “ 

Y/n panicked as one tiny nap became a whole slumber that’s now made her late to her first gig. Well that’s not a good first impression. Y/n needed a bit of money to keep her stable after highschool so she took up the opportunity to audition for a gig with her three people band. This also worked out for her as she growed up wanting to perform rock to the public. Y/n was the lead guitarist and singer while her two other friends were bass and drums.

Y/n packed her electric guitar and changed into something more presentable. In honour that she’s performing nirvana songs tonight, she wore her favourite MTV unplugged album shirt pairing it with a striped long-sleeve shirt underneath and black jeans. She dangled some chain necklaces around her neck and slipped into her boots before running out the house.

The bar she was performing at was 15 minutes away from her house and she still managed to be late. Her performance would start at 6.20 pm and it was already 6.25, so she had to sprint there in order to not keep the people waiting any longer. But of course, with her luck she had to bump into someone along the way, making them drop and break their ipod.

As the ipod hit the ground and broke into pieces, she gasped and cursed to herself. How unlucky could she get now? Y/n had no time to stop and help the stranger, she was gonna lose this opportunity to her dream if she did.

“ Gosh uhm, sorry I wish I could get you a new one but I have to go, sorry again “ she picked up the two pieces and handed it back to the blond boy before running to the bar.

A girl about Tate’s age bumped into him and her force made his ipod drop out of my hands. Making it drop to the ground and shattering into two pieces. Tate looked at her panicked expression as she just dumped the broken pieces into his hand before running away. Of course he was mad inside, but he was too tired of feeling angry due to his domestic problems. Besides he had spare ipods in his drawers so it wasn’t a big deal.

Tate opened the glass door and immediately went to the drinking area. He went here so often the bartender already knew what he wanted, so he just sat on the tall stools as he waited. The bar was more crowded than usual for some odd reason because this was not a well-known boozer. That’s why Tate liked this place, not a lot of drunken or chaotic people could disturb his already messed up day.

“ Here’s your regulars “ the bartender served Tate a couple of drinks knowing he downs them fast.

Beers and shots is what Tate drinks on a shitty day. He snatched the vodka shot and threw it down, the hot sensation of the liquor burning his throat as he continuously emptied more glasses. A sudden cheering made him stop his movements, turning around Tate saw a band on a platform with a spotlight on them. ‘ Since when did they start doing gigs? ‘ Tate thought to himself. Curiosity overtook him as he sat on his stool watching the performance happening. As the lead guitarist pulled the strings on her guitar, Tate instantly knew what song it was. It was Lithium, his favourite song by the band nirvana. Who knew he would ever hear a live performance of his most adored song, might not be by his idol Kurt Cobain but he took what he could.

Throughout the song, Tate felt like the voice singing the song was very familiar. Taking a clearer look at who it was singing, he realised it was the girl who bumped into him. To be honest, when Tate first saw her he thought she was very pretty. Now he found out that she also likes his dearest rock band and she also had a beautiful voice rendering songs from them, which made him feel like maybe he found one person who would understand him.

It seems like she really likes this band, her shirt had nirvana on it, her guitar had Kurt’s name engraved on it. She also is only performing covers of their songs for this gig, and to say the least the crowd really enjoyed it. The more Tate saw her perform, the more he felt something flutter in his heart. He really wanted to get to know her, she seems really cool, so he decided to stay until her little concert was over to get her name.

“ Alright everyone, that’s it for tonight. Hope you enjoyed it and have a wonderful night! “ Y/n spoke into the microphone and slowly went off stage.

Woah was that tiring, Y/n has been singing for a straight hour. She was hungry and very thirsty, so after she went off stage she gulped down a whole bottle of water. Her mates smacked her on the shoulder, congratulating her and she did the same. This was her and her band’s first so called concert and it was really a success. The boss said if there was a big crowd, their pay would increase as they brought the boss more customers. And to say the least, there were way more people then what all four of them expected, the bar was a full house. So they were all excited for their check.

A tap on her shoulder interrupted the conversation, making her turn her head. To her surprise, she saw the blond boy. Her bandmates left them to their privacy, going somewhere else.

“ Hey uhm, remember me? The guy whose ipod you broke? Yea I’m here to get my money back “ Tate said sternly

The blood on Y/n’s face drained as panic took over, making Tate laugh. 

“ I was just joking, I have some spares at home so not a big deal. “

“ God you scared me, and again, I’m really sorry about wha- “ Y/n got interrupted halfway

“ Hey let’s just pass that, really it was no big deal. Anyways I was here to say you were great on that stage and who would have known you shared the same interest as me. “

“ No way you like nirvana too!? “ Y/n excitedly said, she didn’t really have a lot of friends who shared this interest with her for her to rant about it every second.

“ First and only band I love “ Tate said proudly

Y/n was amazed, oh how this similar liking can bring butterflies into her stomach. Maybe she wasn’t unlucky at that moment, maybe luck was on her side for her to meet him.

The two kept on talking and talking, until Tate found the courage to ask her out.

“ So uhm, you’re a really cool person and maybe I can take you out for dinner some other time? “ Tate mumbled nervously

“ Ooo, you asking me out? “ Y/n teased as Tate just looked down and blushed.

“ I would love to go out with you, in fact we can go now, I’m starving after this long night. “ 

Tate's eyes lit up and a bright smile formed onto his lips, what a miracle this is. Tate never knew a girl would ever agree with him to go out. He recommended a diner near the bar that runs 24 hours as it was getting late already. Honestly they were the perfect match, they both helped each other in many ways and Tate showed her that maybe the world isn't full of sunshine and rainbows but Y/n showed him that there is still life in this shit world.

okay now sit down cause I have so much to say and it's going to be *takes a breath* long >:]

first thing of the list is, as you said, we don't know whether Gedeon died or not. Yes it's showed that his heart stopped and they were doing RCP on him, but he wasn't formarly declared death so that's a big point leading to the ambiguous finale. Also, it's very complicated to think either Ellie is alive or not because having the dice with the alfa and omega thing, she looked carefully at it as if she was going to roll it (and we also don't know if she did it but my bet is she didn't).

Another thing is the café has some odd vibe. First, the illumination was like too bright and very different from when Gedeon was there investigating the connection between Milica's corpse and the Krampus killer (made during the day), which imo is usually used on TV shows to indicate that's an imaginary scene. And when Ellie went inside, even if you saw/hear cars driving, people talking, etc, the illumination outside was also too white-ish, the same method that would give some hint that it's not real OR that it was real and the setting was to embellish it.

Second, the people there never looked at them (at least i saw that) dancing and giving the show of their life, they were minding their bussiness to watch two idiots enjoying themselves; yet the "public" was blurred once Gedeon started singing, except for Ellie because of course it was about them as coworkers, friends and their time of peace (how you interpret this is up to you).

About the song and god it took me a lot to find/translate the lyrics as clear as possible is that it was showing us how Gedeon was finally free from everything. He had acomplished his own mission and now he have nothing else to live for, so maybe that's also something that would make us think that he, in fact, died, so 'I drah zua' is his way of telling Ellie that he no longer belonged in the terrenal world and so he was leaving for good, but not before having a last dance with Ellie

OR he survided (again) and he decided to celebrate it by reuniting with Ellie at what we could consider his favorite place, but with him turned into a new version of himself. But the same questions pops up about what's the meaning of the dancing, singing, etc? So one day I talked about this with a friend (who didn't watched the show) and kept her yapping about it and how sad I was the first time I finished watching it. Then, I rewatched a second time and decided to pay more attention to the whole show and came up with different conclusions:

Gedeon did not survive so it's his last vision before finally dying.

Gedeon DID survive BUT he was saying his farewells to Ellie for whatever reason: leaving the police, the country, her, etc. The same reasons would go for Ellie plus going back to Germany. However, they might stay friends, but not as close ones nor as a couple *sobs*

Gedeon died and so did Ellie, so they were having a final last reunion before parting ways (either bc they won't be reunited in heaven, hell or whatever other reason)

My weak heart cries for this so bad but they ended up together after everything they went through but the both of them leaving the police, moving together, etc so they were having, for the first time, some fun

gosh it was long and my brain is drained, but is good to have it out with another person who actually watched the show, thank you bestie <3

thoughts about the S3 ending!!!! a whole lot of thoughts, actually. (spoilers + analysis under the cut. i also kindly offer you a cup of tea and a seat because it got a bit long)

my take on the ending (and especially the dancing scene, my beloved) after crying and pondering about it a lot, is that it's almost a sort of semantic vacuum. did Gedeon die? yes. no. perhaps. did he even exist? it's everything but also nothing and vice versa, and completely up to the viewer.

i feel what is most important regarding that ambiguity is actually the song choice, so i'll digress a little. we know Gedeon’s favourite singer is Wolfgang Ambros, who is a 70's/80's austrian indie songwriter (having a dad who is the same all i can say is you horrible nerd. affectionately.), and a lot of scenes throughout the show were accompanied by situation-suitable songs by the artist. a lot of them are famous for being very ambiguously written, and often can be interpreted on several layers.

I drah zua / I’m closing aka the song in the scene fits this as well. On surface level the lyrics tell about the protagonist leaving a round of cards because he's made to participate but secretly doesn't want to; so he leaves, and looks forward to have his own freedom, play his own games. The song has been interpreted as being about leaving a societal structure, leaving a toxic workplace or relationship, moving towns or taking your own life because it's the only autonomy you have left. there's not one way of reading it, but what the song does convey is relief to leave something behind and anticipation for what is to come. that being said, i think if they wanted the ending to be distinctly conclusive, they'd chosen a different song (there's a few very clearly about death, like the one used during Yela's murder).

my friend, mum and i saw the same scene, but interpreted it vastly different in the end, and it's really beautiful because all of them somehow work.

personally, I have a decidedly weak heart and can/want to see it as a scenario in which Gedeon survived and they say goodbye to their destructive careers. for my friend on the other hand it was as a last goodbye of Gedeon's consciousness. my mum saw it as both Ellie and Gedeon dying, and meeting again in the afterlife. i'd argue it could also just be the entire show dissolving and bidding farewell to itself.

when I first watched it, i actually 100% expected it to be a symbolic but conclusive last meeting/afterlife scene as well - with Ellie coming in, them smiling to each other a last time and then him get up and leaving the café (or life) for good. But he… didn’t?

The café in the scene seems to fit the cinematic trope of the afterlife antechamber, as a familiar but eerily empty space fitting around the protagonist's spirits, like a place in a memory. And it does, somehow. But then again, it also doesn’t. Ellie and Gedeon the focus, but then you notice they’re not the only ones occupying the space. There’s other people, watching them dance, reading their newspaper, walking or driving by outside. It's not only their souls. As if it’s just a regular morning, and not some empty place in the afterlife.

It's as if they took certain tropes but twisted them just enough to allow some final ambiguity. We see Gedeon being revived, but not if it worked. We see Ellie at the pond, considering to throw the dice, but not if she does. We see Polt being freed, but still don't know if his whole folktale is true.

tl;dr: i think however one took the ending, it's probably not wrong at all

Not a concert report because y'all know pretty much what happened; this is just my own diary entry about the events 😌

So, Thursday was a bit of a struggle for me personally: there were some surprise changes regarding my train trip to Helsinki that gave me a good ol' spook the first thing I woke up, plus I had a killer headache for most of the day...

...and on top of that I fell! 🙈 We were already inside the venue and on our way to take our spots on the floor. Naturally there were all sorts of electric chords going across the floor, but thankfully they were covered so that people walking normally and minding their step wouldn't stumble all over them 🙏👍👌

Needless to say I wasn't one of them, however 🙃 I wasn't running, I was just walking quite fast, and I totally wasn't watching where I was going, and so I tripped and ended up on the floor and had super minor injuries on my hand and knee (thanks @matelas for the pink bandaid 💗)

My fall wasn't quite as dramatic as Porko's though, gosh what a show-off, can't even fall on his pretty little ass without pyros blowing off 🙄🔥

We weren't super close to the stage, but close enough to see what was happening with our bare eyes, and definitely closer than I dared to imagine in advance! 🤩

The surprise Robin was one of the highlights of the gig, that was truly something straight ouf of fanfiction 😆 I mean, imagine being such good friends with your ex that you ask them to be a special guest in your special show with your new bf's band :')

(let's not talk about how the setlist was a teeeeeeeeeny tiny disappointment (to me personally at least; I was totally excpecting to hear SLB and many other songs they KNOW are fan favourites 😔), and I feel like the show itself wasn't as special I was expecting it to be 🤔 I mean, of course having Robin fucking Packalén there took us all by surprise etc. but somehow I expected more, especially because the setlist was exactly the same the next day in Tampere (and maybe the cruise show setlist was similar as well?). For example, Dark Side being the ONLY encore song wasn't how I had imagined them to end their biggest headline gig to date)

But, speaking of Tampere, HOLY FUCKING SHIT 😭😭😭😭😭 It was incredible, and not least because we were on 3rd row with a direct view to Olli 😵 @matelas and I competely lost it when he first appeared in front of us, in all his sinful beauty ✨

I had never been this close to Olli's side before, so it was amazing to see his happy face during the songs 😭 You can really see from his whole presence how much he enjoys playing shows, I wanted to ruffle his hair too like Niko did during Glory For The Greedy 🥺

And Aleksi was really enjoying himself as well, it was cool to see him up close too when he came to stand on Olli's platform a few times 🥰 I feel like our eyes met very briefly near the end 💖

Niko did the eeeeeeeeyo thingie, as he always does, and we did the longest eeeeeeeeeeeyo known to mankind back at him, in fact I think you can still hear it echoing inside Pakkahuone! 😌

In both shows (and also in general) my favourite songs to hear live are Don't Fix Me, We Are No Saints, and Balboa; I had so much fun boundcing and partying to those songs 💃 I had made a conscious decision to not film too many videos during either gig, because I truly wanted to take it all in and enjoy the shows to the fullest, but at the same time I wish I had taken just a few more, because watching the videos and sort of getting to re-live the whole thing all over again is so much fun 🖤

Great fun was also had at the very informal, extremely small-scale, and otherwise perfectly wonderful BC tumblr gathering we had after the ice hall show in a bar downton Helsinki, and in the Gathering 2.0 after the Tampere show!! 🥰 You guyyyyyyssssss, both hangouts were filled with laughter and kindness and soft feelings and I was so happy 🥺😭💕

Thanks to BC and their superb energy and songs I probably would have had a great time even if I had gone to the shows all alone, but I gotta tell ya, spending time with such lovely people made it so much better and I had the most fun I've had in a long time 🥺

This year's been a bit rough for me personally for various reasons, as there has been a couple of changes that I'm still trying to get used to (+ the always-present feelings of loneliness and inadequacy), but Blind Channel has been this one consistent element in my life this year, something I have been able to escape to when things in my personal life have started hurting too much. Their music and all the content on the side (from the guys themselves as well as fan-made) are one thing, but equally important to me are all the amazing people I have met (in person and online!) and the incredible memories we have made together that have given me endless joy throughout the year 🥺 There have been many, many days when I have felt so incredibly sad and lonely and desperate and the thought of being happy has seemed downright impossible, but during the last two days I have laughed so much and felt such joy that I don't really know how to put it into words 😭 I just want to thank everyone who was part of it, and of course I hope to one day be able to meet Blind Channel in person again too and thank them, for giving me so much more than just the music 🖤

To anyone reading this, thinking I'm crying my eyes out all alone in my apartment, having to continue living my sad, boring life not knowing when I'll see Blind Channel and some of the lovely peeps mentioned above again: I am crying my eyes out, but I want you to know I'm also crying happy tears because of how grateful I am for all these memories, and also that I'm happy to sleep in my own bed tonight and to be eating cauliflower soup and having some fun snacks while watching hockey later, so life's not all bad I guess, even if I have a small wound on my right hand and a bruise the size of Niko's balls on my left knee :')
