you really can't write another song about your broken heart x
[Machines hum and rattle around Jude in agonizing dissonance, like nails on a chalkboard. He just needed to get out a little, cleaning up his apartment had left a sour taste in his mouth.] [The little things he finds have memories swarming the forefront of his mind, like spare arcade tokens, stowed away in his desk drawers.] Stevie: C'mon, one more round? I'll let you win! [An old pair of drum sticks, worn out after years of use. A little 'S' carved crudely on one of them.] Jude: You gotta pick up the sticks first. [Her laughter echoes in the small space. Jude would’ve done anything to make her laugh.] Stevie: Shut up, you dork! I know that. [Crumpled concert tickets, the ink of them wearing away over time.] Stevie: We should've gotten high before we left. Jude: I'll buy us drinks. Stevie: It's a fucking Oasis cover band. I'll need something stronger. [Journal Entry: Jude is attempting to write another song, the lyrics are from the song Look What You’ve Done by Jet. Half of the second verse is scratched out, with the words "FUCK THIS" written next to it. For story purposes, he’s writing these as his own lyrics. ]

49. “I may be an idiot, but I’m your idiot.” for Jurdan? Please. :)
Sorry this took me forever! I hope you enjoy!!
Drinks and stupidity
Cardan was going to go out and have a “guys night”. Him, Roach, and Ghost were going to go out to a bar and let loose, without their women.
They all told their wives that they were going to hang out. Where? They didn’t tell them that, but they could only assume that they were going to go out to drink.
They called an Uber to come pick them up because, God knows, they will not be able to drive their way back home. The Uber took them to Elfhame’s bar and grill. The big epicenter for a Friday night. The men went up to the bar and ordered the hardest liquor they had.
After getting set at the bar with their drinks, Cardan spoke up, “I bet you two will get drunk before I get drunk.”
Roach snorted. “Son, I have 7 years on you. That won’t be happening.”
Ghost peaked in, “It’s on Greenbriar. Whoever gets drunk first, pays for all.”
Cardan rose his brows. “Deal.”
It was shot time. Each man would take a turn shooting a shot of liquor down. After seven, Roach still looked unfazed, Cardan started to slur, and Ghost was feeling light headed.
After five more shots, Cardan went to stand and fell. Ghost and Roach started laughing.
“Guess you, Greenbriar, are buying the rounds.” Roach muttered.
Ghost mumbled for Cardan’s advantage, “If it makes you feel any better, I thought you would be gone a long time ago.”
Cardan put a half- faced smile on and slurred, “I’ll be able to beat you one day. Although, probably not you Roach, I’m pretty sure you’re an alcoholic. You just don’t know it yet.”
Roach chuckled at that. The men were not joking about wanting to let loose. They drank and drank until they forgot their first name. Well, Roach was only a little tipsy. But Ghost and Cardan were totally wasted.
Cardan and Ghost were on the dance floor slow dancing with each other, saying they were only doing it with each other because their wives weren’t here and if they did it with any other women, their wives would kill them. Or at least Jude would kill Cardan.
And you better believe Roach took this great opportunity to record them on his phone for blackmail in the future. This was the best thing he has seen in a while.
They danced some and then went back and drank more, which was not good because at one point Ghost threw up all over somebody. They got mad. Cardan didn’t like the way he spoke to Ghost so Cardan punched him. Well, lo and behold, Cardan got punched back.
Roach separated them and told the bartender he would take care of him. By taking care of, he meant that Cardan was no longer allowed to have anymore drinks if he was now going to be an angry drunk. Cardan got mad and went outside for some fresh air. And by going outside, he basically had to hold onto everything so he wouldn’t fall.
Cardan sat outside until he got bored so he stood back up on wobbly legs and started walking. Where to? He didn’t know. He just wanted to go somewhere.
—————
Roach and Ghost decided to leave around 1:30am. They suspected Cardan to be outside asleep somewhere. It had been 30 minutes since they last saw Cardan. When Roach went outside and Cardan was nowhere to be found, he cursed under his breath. He had a taxi take the Ghost back home and Roach decided to walk around on his own wobbly legs, albeit not as bad as Cardan’s though.
After 30 minutes of searching, he decided to call Jude.
“Hello.” Jude sleepy voice came through the phone.
“Hey Jude, it’s Roach. Have you seen Cardan by any chance?”
A pause. “Uhh, no. He’s supposed to be with you. Have you really lost my husband?”
“Yeah, yeah I have. He went outside to get some fresh air and when I came to get him, he was gone.”
Jude groaned. “Well it’s 2 in the morning. Find my husband and bring him back to my house. Now.”
“Yes ma’am.” Nobody wants to be on Jude’s bad side. You better just follow her orders rather than face her wrath.
—————
It became 3 in the morning faster than expected and now Jude was really getting worried. What happens if he fell asleep on the side of the road? What happens if he was not in his right mind and went home with someone? What if he got beat up somewhere and left to die?
Jude’s worry caught up with her. She put shoes on and grabbed her keys. She was going to drive around and see if she could find him. He couldn’t be too far, could he?
She opens her front door and there he is. Sleeping on the stairs of their front porch. She was mad. Really mad.
“CARDAN GREENBRIAR!” She yelled in a whisper tone.
He looked up and smiled at her, “Hey Jude, dear, I was going to come in the house but I got too tired and decided to nap on the stairs.”
Jude rolled her eyes. She helped him stand up and brought him into the house. She led him up the stairs into their bedroom. She got some pajamas out for him and helped him out of his clothes. No intimacy about it.
“Cardan, you’re an idiot. An absolute idiot.”
He still had that content smile upon his stupidly, beautiful face. “I may be an idiot, but I’m your idiot.”
Jude had to fight down a smile. “That may be true, but do you know how much you worried me? I thought something really bad happened to you.”
“Don’t worry dear wife, nothing bad is ever going to happen to me.”
Jude pushed him down on the bed and covered him up. Like a five year old. She called Roach back to tell him she found him on the porch step.
Roach answers back, “Well, if it makes you feel any better, I have this video of Cardan and Ghost slow dancing with each other if you want me to send it to you?”
“Yes, oh my gosh, yes I need to see it.”
Roach sent it and she had to try seriously hard not to laugh. But she couldn’t help it. She started hysterically laughing. Cardan turned over to look at her. “What are you laughing at?”
Jude put her phone on the nightstand beside her and sunk down on the mattress. “Nothing. Go to sleep, Cardan.”
Cardan wrapped his arms around her. “Love you Jude.”
“Love you too, Cardan.”
Jude could not wait for Cardan to see the video. She can’t wait to tease him about it. She would never let him live this down.

Sam’s Eulogy
Sam’s funeral was 1 year ago today. Writing Sam’s Eulogy was emotionally the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Reading it in the service was beyond me. Jude and I are ever indebted and thankful to Marc for doing this so well on the day. It read as follows:
I stand before you today, a representative of a family that feel truly blessed to have such amazing support not just through the numbers here but throughout Sam’s journey. Family, friends, the Russell school, social clubs, the medical teams, work colleagues, the whole Chorleywood community and beyond, we are all united in our love, and desire to pay our respects to our wonderful warrior Sam.
Samuel George Hanson, was born in St George’s hospital on St George’s day, the most precious present on his Dad’s birthday. He was instantly welcomed and loved by his brother Rhys and his family. Whether from his brother’s tickles, or the delight of smearing food all over his face, it wasn’t long before he was smiling and chuckling in his unique way, filling our lives with Sammy sized fun.
As a baby and toddler Sam was seldom without a muslin blanket for comfort – Mum and Dad wouldn’t dare leave the house without one. This set a theme for the rest of his short life. The muslin was eventually superseded, by George bear, Sven, Camo. He loved his teddies and each had a name. Over the past few years there was one teddy that Sam would never be without - Rabbity. Rabbity was so precious to Sam that the internet was scoured for an identical backup to be used when Rabbity was washed. Shipped in from the US, Rabitto was always on standby. Rabbity went everywhere with Sam. Every night he cuddled him, during all his stays in hospital, every operation Rabbity was in the theatre with Sam. Up until the very end, right now, and forever – Rabbity will be with Sam to comfort him.
As Sam grew up, some other Sammy traits soon appeared. With his white blond hair, and golden skin he was a beautiful toddler, with a propensity to wear nothing on his feet. Was he destined to be a surfer dude? He had the look. If he could, he would always be barefoot. At a push he would be in crocks, as a last resort trainers. If he went out, shoes and socks were always the last things on and the first things off. When home, he was easy to find as his shoes and socks would leave a Sammy trail from the door to wherever he was going.
As all children should be, Sam was full of life, a little mischievous and very inquisitive. He loved finding crystals in rocks and bringing pretty stones or fossils home. If it sparkled, it got his attention. Was he a budding geologist or was it a palaeontologist? He was encouraged to do it all. Only a few weeks ago he was busy foraging on the beach intently studying what the tide was washing in. Crab shells, dismembered crab claws, pretty shells, he was intrigued by them all and they all went into our bucket to bring home. Maybe he was destined to be an ecologist?
In hospital Sam would relax by watching his favourite movies. Whether they were Disney animations, classics like Oliver or epic compilations like the Lord of the rings, Star wars, DC and Marvel, he enjoyed them all. He also loved dressing up. Inspired by the heroes and villains in all the movies, when he dressed up, his imagination would whisk him away and he became that character. Woody or Buzz, the Gruffalo, a Dinosaur, a Rabbit, Captain Phasma or America, Kylo Ren or Thor. He would boisterously tear around the house in character, wielding his weapon of choice. Rhys was usually the victim and would laugh out loud as Sam battered him with a foam sword or hammer (most of the time!)
There was one costume, more than any other that Sam just loved – his reindeer onesie. He would wear it around the house, camping trips, on visits to the hospital, he even wore it to school. His size 3-4 years was worn until the legs looked like ¾ lengths and the body was skin tight. He didn’t care, he’d say it was snuggly, and it tickled us to see him in it. Sam loved being snuggly and snuggling up to his teddies or under blankets. But if there was some snuggling to be done, top of the list was always snuggling with his Mummy.
Even when Sam was poorly one of the activities he’d still find the strength to do was Nerf battles. If it rained, the battle would be indoors, if it was dry it would be outside with bullet guns or water pistols. When Sam was less mobile, whole house or garden battles were reworked so that Sam could take up a static sniper position, and take pot shots at his victims, family or friends. Rhys has a fond memory of when he and a friend were speaking and playing with some girls in a neighbouring garden. The talk soon became squeals and laughter as Samster the Gangster popped around the edge of the shed, naked, brandishing a water pistol and soaked them all.
When Sam was young he had always been a healthy child. When the family had colds he seemed to be unscathed, but in the autumn of 2015 Sam became pale, he was low on energy, and he had a rash. At first the GP thought it may be viral, but after a couple of weeks nothing had improved and his tummy was starting to swell. By this point the family were fearing this could be something bad but the odds said they should be wrong. A blood test was done on the 1st of December 2015, a day the family will never forget. Sam was diagnosed with Leukaemia and their Sky fell in.
Sam’s journey since then has been a tough one. His beads of courage are a lasting memory to the 100’s of procedures he endured over the 3 and a half years of treatment. He amassed 1,850 beads in all and the family give thanks to the medical staff here today, representing everyone that has worked at every hour of the day to care for Sam during his battle with Leukaemia. He was inspired so much by your commitment and professionalism that he’d said he wanted to grow up to be a nurse. Would that have been his future? Sadly we will never know.
If there is one thing that blossomed in hospital, and epitomises Sam it would be his love for Lego. Over the years we had various activities to fill the time. Card games, dart guns and dart boards, Qixels and crafts. He would enjoy them all but the favourite was definitely LEGO. What started with a small Lego set to help while away the time, grew into a ritual fuelled by both Sam’s and his Dad’s enjoyment of it. If Sam was spending any length of time in hospital he’d be doing Lego. The anticipation and the walk to collect a new set from the Amazon lockers in GOSH were all part of the excitement. The real magic was watching him build; so focussed and determined, his tongue out during the tricky bits. When he completed something, the sense of achievement was always evident on his face - in the big beaming smile. From timid beginnings, he fumbled through his first few sets but soon became a master builder completing multi bag sets intended to last days in just a few hours. If there is one thing that demonstrates how much time Sam spent in hospital, and particularly the months in isolation it would be the size of his Lego collection. On display in his room he was always proud to show it to people.
The last 9 months were particularly tough. The disease and treatment taking its toll. Sam was a third heavier, had lost his hair again, and then grew dark hair back almost everywhere. His hearing was impaired and his legs were weak. He would be unrecognisable to those that had not witnessed the change. But to those that had it was still Sam and he was a fighter, he would get through this. His attitude to all the pokes, prods and procedures was inspirational “let’s just get it over with” he would say. He hated general anaesthetics, but to overcome the fear he developed his own routine of yoga breaths and a snuggle with Mummy or Daddy while he had his sleeping milk and just got it over with. His animated moral – “Never give up” that we are so blessed that he made, will live with us forever. Sam you’re a trooper - thank you for being so brave.
Despite everything he’d been through he was still the cheeky, inquisitive boy we all loved. He always had a willingness to learn and would look forward to his lessons in hospital, at home or in school. Even on days post BMT when his mouth was too sore to speak he still had his lessons, writing or using the iPad to communicate. It would be the highlight of his days only missed if he was asleep.
Sam was doing so well in his treatment, he was winning his battle with leukaemia. He was in remission, his transplant was a success and his diseased white blood cells had been replaced 100% by his brother’s donor cells. His recovery was not without issues, that would, and did make him feel lousy, but the bigger picture was always good and in a few more months he was going to get through this. One day, he was going to ring the bell in Hospital that signified the end of his treatment.
On the 21st March Sam was taken by his parents to Watford because of his rapid breathing. This was thought to be a visit like many other. On the 22nd of March suddenly and unexpectedly Sam’s condition deteriorated and after many hours he was stabilised in Watford and transferred to intensive care in GOSH. Sadly, despite battling his biggest battle and supported by an overwhelming number of people and well-wishers, Sam was never to leave. He passed away peacefully in his parents’ arms on the 4th of April 2019. Sam never got to ring the bell.
Sam didn’t quite make the 8th Birthday that he was so excited about, but during his short time with us has achieved more than many may achieve in a lifetime. In his name, 10’s of thousands of pounds have been raised for charities that have benefited him or his family; CLIC Sargent, Be child cancer aware, Children with Cancer and Spread a Smile. The Radio 5 Live broadcast for the ‘No Isolation’ robot has over a million views and touched thousands of people. The hope is that these contributions may bring unforgettable memories, or lead to new treatments that help save the lives of other children in a similar situation and maybe one day ensure nobody has to endure the loss of a child from Leukaemia. Sam, you should be proud.
Everyone gathered here today has been touched in some way by Sam’s life. It may take a long time for friends and family to adjust, but after the grief and mourning, we will be left with the memories and sparkle that Sam brought to our lives. We will reflect on a life full of amazing adventure, love and bravery. Sam’s courageous battle and attitude should and will inspire us to never give up. We will all miss you Sam but may your star forever shine bright. ⭐

Captain Marvel: A Spoilertastic Review
Well, here we are. Our first female-led Marvel movie (unless you count Ant Man and the Wasp, which I kind of do because Scott was basically useless and Hope ran the whole movie like a boss, but too bad she ran the show on a dull, rushed movie). How does it measure up?
It's fine.
I'd coin Captain Marvel as good, not great. It's definitely a popcorn flick, in the same vein of Ant Man for sure in terms of where it fits in our giant pantheon of MCU movies. I'd rank it dead center, so slightly underneath Cap 1 and Thor 2, but above Doctor Strange. I think Ant Man is a good comparison for the tone and the enjoyment of this movie, although it does do more to characterize the main lead than Ant Man did for Scott Lang. To be fair, though, somehow they end up in the same spot for my personal rankings.
So let's dive in and see why.
Overall Grade: B-
Pros:
-Plenty of action. No shortage on that whatsoever.
-Lots of off-world adventures, for those fans who sometimes are annoyed that too many MCU movies are earth-based. We don't hit earth until about the halfway point and there are still some shenanigans then.
-The dynamic between Carol and Fury is a lot of fun. Larson and Jackson work off each other's energy very well and the banter feels fun and familiar without ever veering into any weird territory. Fury is just as effective as ever at her side, and it's before he becomes full on grumpy Dad Fury, so he's a lot less cold and it's fun to see.
-It was also delightful getting to see Coulson one more time, although it's a cameo, not a whole role as some of the trailers sort of imply.
-The female relationships are probably the strongest in the Marvel lineup, aside from Black Panther. Particularly Carol, her best friend Maria, and Maria's daughter. We don't see a ton of it, but it's just enough to put a huge grin on your face. It's very warm and endearing. I also like that Maria was not only a supportive best friend struggling to get over her loss, but she got to join the action as well, and it was badass. I really am happy with Marvel pushing forward to give black women more representation in the superhero genre. Too many folks think black women in film are only sassy best friends or baby mamas or Tyler Perry stereotypes. We love sci-fi/fantasy just as much as everyone else, and so I loved seeing two beautiful black actresses shining next to Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson. It lends the film a lot of heart.
-Brie Larson is relatively decent in the role. She has some moments better than others, but overall, she did a good job. It never felt like she couldn't handle the work of beating some ass, and she sold me far more than Gal Gadot did as Wonder Woman. Which, yes, I know, it's unfair and kind of tasteless to compare them, but I have to note it since I didn't care for the WW movie that this is what I was talking about with film presence. Gal Gadot, to me, looks like a supermodel wearing a Wonder Woman costume. To me, she never embodied the poise, agility, and strength that Diana has in the comics or in the animated series. I believed Gadot more during the softer parts of the WW movie, but she couldn't pull off the action because she just doesn't have the presence. Larson does, imo. She carries herself in a manner that makes me feel like she can kick your ass. She has a stance and a stature that allows me to feel her strength, and it's in line with other Marvel women like Widow, Okoye, or Scarlet Witch.
-My favorite part of the movie is hands down the "I'm Just a Girl" by No Doubt scene. Oh my God. I was internally squeeing and singing along with the lyrics while she kicked ass. I was so delighted to see them perfectly use that song that I already liked in high school anyway, and it just worked so well.
-I also liked the montages of Carol getting back up. That is a really, really important image for the girls growing up to see. It's not about how many times you fall. It's about how many times you still get back up. That's great. We fall and get dirty and scuffed and mocked and hated. But we still get up and try again every time. Love it. It's very empowering.
-The de-aging looked pretty good. Jackson is tougher since he's gained weight since the size he was back in the 90's but they filled in his wrinkles well enough. Coulson's looked better, although I did notice just it a tad bit during the stairwell scene, but overall, I thought it was well done.
-Gosh, her costume looks amazing. I want it. I want to wear it for Halloween. It's gorgeous.
-The sequence of the Skrulls acquiring her memories was very neat and uniquely done. Kudos.
-THE MOTHERFUCKING FIRST END CREDITS SCENE. Y'ALL. I SCREAMED. I SCREAMED AND CLAPPED MY HANDS SO HARD I HURT THEM. OH MY GOD. SHE'S ON EARTH. THE QUEEN IS ON EARTH AND WE SHALL ALL BE SAVED. SHE IS GOING TO TURN FUCKING THANOS INTO FUCKING PURPLE CLAM CHOWDER WITH HER BARE HANDS FOR KILLING FURY AWWWWWW YEEEEEEEEEEAH BOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII. Ahem. Sorry. I am really goddamn excited about that tiny piece of Avengers: Endgame because Marvel and the Russos have been so fucking stingy with details. We still don't know the plot. We only have that 30-second Superbowl spot and the Sad Stark trailer. I was livid they didn't give us a final trailer in front of this movie, but I guess with it a month and change away, they're just banking on us frothing at the mouth wanting more. Jerks. But anyway, yes, this fucking scene is mint and I wish I could rewind it.
-Nick naming the Avenger Initiative after her was a great cherry on top moment.
-I fucking lost it when Nick started singing “Mr. Postman.” Deadass, I just started listening to that song about a month ago thanks to that one famous Vine where those dudes sung it acapella. I was dying. You go, Nick.
Cons:
-This movie overall has a bit of a bland taste to it. It's most revolving around Carol. The problem is that I think they were too chicken to dive deeply into who she is and her personality and her desires because they were afraid the feminists would complain that they made her too soft, so they replaced it all with action. Which is fine, some people just want a girl kicking ass, but I think it did Carol and Larson a disservice by rushing everything and doing drive-by characterization. The dialogue doesn't stick as well due to the bland flavoring, for example. If you ask me who Carol Danvers is, I can't really tell you. I can tell you what she does, but not who she is. I regret that probably the most out of everything. This movie is a bit of a vehicle than a movie where we discover who she is. We discover what she is, but not who she is. She's kind of just every tough, stubborn, smartass female lead you could see in maybe an Avengers OC fic on AO3. She really needed more distinct quirks and likes and dislikes, and I really fault them for cutting out her life on the Kree planet. It would have shown us so much more about her if we knew what her Kree life was like juxtaposed against her original human life, and it could up the stakes and help them sink it, and give more immediacy and concern to the dangers she faced.
-The villains were telegraphed. Again, people ding Marvel for this all the time. It's because they seem to struggle with balance. Often, the villains are thin to cut down the running time by not developing them at all. It's a shame. I've always found Jude Law very entertaining and I think they should have given him something to work with other than Obvious Bad Guy Pretending To Be Good. It was so transparent, much like the bitchy sister villain from Incredibles II. He might as well have been twirling a mustache. I mean, any dude who tells you your emotions are bad is probably not on the up-and-up. And it would have been better to see him and Carol square off at the end in an emotional battle than for it to just be a cheap shot and a joke. But I digress.
-While there was a lot of action, aside from the "Just a Girl" sequence, I will forget it all by morning. I think they wanted the movie to have mass appeal, so a lot of it comes across as generic. The stuff that stands out more are bits like finally seeing what alien Goose actually was or some of Fury's quips and the bits with Maria's daughter and Carol. The action itself is serviceable, but I'd have liked it to have more flavor if possible.
-Not outlining the limit to Carol's powers. This is going to be tough lining up with Endgame because she's so god-like we're gonna wonder if she just bitchslaps Thanos and that's the end. She feels overpowered without the chip limiting her, so I would have liked them to give us some kind of idea as to how she won't just wipe the floor with him in retribution in Endgame.
-Nitpick: Nick losing his eye to Goose annoyed me. People called it. I didn't want them to be right, but ugh, they were. It was a bit too silly for me.
-Nitpick: They really didn't need to waste our time with the second end credits being Goose puking up the Tesseract. We knew he did. You didn't have to show it, dummies.
-Nitpick: Was hoping for some 90's era cameos from at least one other Avenger, but no such luck. Damn. What a letdown.
I had fun, and I am eager to see her fit into the rest of the MCU. And I am also selfishly even more interested in Kamala Khan someday popping in as the new generation of heroes. Please, God, give me Kamala Khan. I want her and my son Peter Parker to team up and be the cutest superhero dorks ever. But until then...God help us all. Endgame is coming.
Enjoy the sunlight coming off of Ms. Danvers.
Because it's finna get dark up in here, my children.
See you in Endgame.
Kyo out.

Stef and Lena's Wedding that Coincides with Real-Life Marriage Equality Decisions
In June 2013, actresses Saum and Polo were clad in white saying “I dos” as television wives and dancing with their on-screen kids Brandon (David Lambert), Jesus (then played by Jake T. Austin who was replaced by Noah Centineo), Mariana (Cierra Ramirez), Callie, and Jude to Macklemore’s “Same Love” for the show’s season 1A finale. As the actors shot the wedding scene that followed Polo’s Stef’s heartrending rift with her dad over her marrying a woman, the Supreme Court struck down the part of DOMA that kept the federal government from recognizing same-sex marriages and also let stand an appeals court ruling that struck down Prop. 8, thus making marriage equality legal in California.
“The day our moms got married [on set] is the same day that Paul [Katami] and Jeff [Zarrillo] got married at LA City Hall. And the same day that Sandy [Stier] and Kris [Perry] did in San Francisco,” Paige tells The Advocate about The Fosters’s wedding’s unreal timeliness. “Literally, we were shooting that afternoon they were having weddings. It was an unbelievable moment. And seeing that get out into the world and resonate—not just politically but also personally - seeing how the fans had taken to this family was a pretty incredible moment.”
The Fosters’s heartfelt wedding moved audiences and also Saum, who says it is the scene that stands out the most to her over the show’s five seasons.
“I always go back to the wedding day because it was just so unbelievably timely with what was happening in California at the time with marriage equality.” Saum says. “We actually got to use “Same Love” on the show. “Today, it gives me goosebumps—that song. And to be there with the cast, sharing this love, and sharing, not even this fictional situation, but this real-life situation happening at the same time. It was just magic. It was out-of-body. It was beauty. It was pure love.
Love and Friendship Between Women
It was clear from the onset of the series that Polo and Saum had serious on-screen chemistry as mothers, wives, and actual sexual beings (go Freeform!). But more than that, the actresses formed an abiding friendship that spilled over into just about every photo shoot and interview they’ve been a part of since the show began.
“In the beginning… personally, I was a little intimidated by her. I mean, she’s balled out. I remember doing the chemistry readings with her. She wasn’t sticking to the script really, and she was joking with all these—in my mind—scary producers,” Saum recalls. “I already had the job at this point, but I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, she’s going off the rails. What’s happening?’ And the beauty of it was that it was the contrary—that’s what they were looking for. [They wanted] Somebody who was a balled-out, fearless, strong woman, and that’s really who she was.”
In the end, though, Saum says it was Polo’s fierce sense of humor that wooed her.
“I started to spend a lot of time with her, and what really did it for me was her sense of humor. She made me laugh so much, and when you can do that, I’m yours. She just had me. And we peed. I mean, I tell it all the time. We just peed. I was just doubled over so many days on the show with that woman.”
Their friendship carried over off-set as well. “She was the first person, besides my family, who was in the delivery room when I had my babies,” Saum says.

Hiveswap Act 1 OST Review
Ok, I’ve been listening to it for some time. I should really review the OST!
I’m a musical ameteur so this is a bad idea. Hope you enjoy it!
1. Definitely Safe Forever - good. 3 out of 5. nothing else to say on the matter
2. Snake Escape - great. very funky, nice bass tones. iconic hiveswap tone... 4 out of 5.
3. Joey Claire, Extraordinaire - Nice slow buildup, gentle theme. Feels welcoming and safe, yet a bit more curious than your average Pokemon hometown theme. The wind instrument gets extremely loud at times, maybe too loud. But this track is so different from what Homestuck usually offers that it paints a new identity for Hiveswap. It’s repetitive enough to not distract you, but interesting enough to not bore you. I like how it gets a bit more mellow and bittersweet over time, which is something you can say for a lot of tracks. 4/5.
4. Half-Harley Manor - I have always liked the leitmotif for this house. It’s... not quite spooky, but not warm and welcoming either. I love how this track starts loud and spooky, then you have quiet percussion, then it gets back to the original theme with a bit more windiness... very satsifying. Then the part where it gets VERY sparkly and happy. Idk what intrument that is. Keyboard? It’s the only part of the song that makes this feel like home, ut then it loops back into the original alienating theme. 4 out of 5.....
5. Relatively Visible Darkness - I don’t like the trumpets in this much but I enjoy everything else about this theme. Serves its job. Relatively unspectacular... until the chorus in the second half, then it gets great. for a little bit. 3 out of 5.
6. Bedroom for an Annoying Dog - Love the final fantasy joke. Love how scary they made the fucking basement sound. Love how this builds up with the, uhh, organ pipes? 5 out of 5.
7. That’s How I Beat Snake - hmmm... Very nice intro but the main theme is a bit shit, until it hits the chorus, then it gets catchy. Its soundfont is... odd. I think it serves well as a fight theme but is the weakest battle music in the game. I do like the drop at the second part a lot! 3 out of 5. or 6 out of 10. yes. lets start doing them out of 10 from now on because fuck consistency.
8. Jude Harley, Bizarrely - Nice character theme but terrible music. I think that’s the intention. You do however lose points for it being a remix of Joey’s theme and Harleyhouse Manor because it means the only sort of leitmotif Jude has is how fucking bad his music is . 6 out of 10 get this CANMT shit out of here.
9. Table for Tooth - NICE INTRO! This was used in the trailer, right? I love the initial drop. The main theme’s instrument is... garbage, yes. But then it plays the Harleyhouse theme and it’s SO GOOD. Wish that part was longer. 7 out of 10.
10. Final Spice - if you think this sounds like an Undertale track it’s cos this one had the least touching up by James. It reminds me of Toriel’s theme. Nice and catchy but not quite good enough for me to enjoy. 7 out of 10.
11. Living Legend - The final and best battle theme on tis track. Another Final Fantasy joke. I love this theme and what James and Toby did with it. 9 out of 10.... not quite the best track on the album, but very close.
12. Singular Peril - nice and perilous. Also nice coming off of the Final Fantasy track cos this reminds me of when you escape the nuclear plant in FF7. 8 out of 10. Would work better if it wasnt heard for just 3 seconds.
13. A More Defensible Position - I, think this is the tied second-best track on the album because of its second part. So magical, so ominous. You feel shit building up here. 9 out of 10.
14. Open the Door - Majestic buildup, dark, intense, spooky......... then it becomes nothing shot of an anticlimax. It needs to be LOUDER on the piano part! Then it could have been the best track easily! 7 out of 10.
15. Keep Your Head Down - I’m annoyed at how far forward this track is cos you only hear it after Xefros gets flattened. I love it though, very 80s, fitting remix of Xefros’s theme to represent the path he and Joey have ahead of them. 1980 out of 2000.
16. Oh Whoah, What’s This - The theme’s fine. A nice intro to Dammek’s hive, gentle and empty after the dramatic teleportation. The name however is unacceptable. 0 out of 10.
17. Some Kind Of Alien - WHOAHHHH the transition between these two themes is nuts. I love how LOUD this track is! I love the waltzy beat, the flute, how it represents Dammek’s conspiring nature. It gets much more cheerful as it goes on,perhaps indicating this boy isn’t entirely a weird jerk. And it ends on Karkat! 8 out of 10. Probably deserves a 9.
18. Rustblood - When people play through this game, this tune really catches them. And I enjoy it, because this is the part of the game that starts feeling like homestuck, yknow? Anyway Xefros has by far the most distinguished theme out of any of his mates. This is very Toby Fox. Very solid 7 out of 10.
19. Filthy Nuclear Bunker - you know how HYPE this track is? You just want to click on everything and read all the text, because it has hit you that you’re playing the HOMESTUCK VIDEOGAME and youre REALLY ENJOYING IT. 9 out of 10 for the variety of instruments, the upbeat mood. Despite the weird soundfont. I’m feeling generous. This music is relatively long though, compared to the others. It should end before I change my mind.
20. SPORTS! Personally I Love Them - this is the third time ive listened to this track today. 7.8 out of 10 too much Superbowl. Liked the Dark Souls reference in this room. I wish the music that played during the puzzle was in this OST.
21. Lofted Gunpile - A more “meh” version of Dammek’s theme. I prefer what they eventually went with. Why did James want it to be so.... low? Same complaint as the anticlimactic portal theme. Do like when the instruments start blending together near the end. 6 out of 10.
22. Serpent Genesis Better, original version of the snake fight with better soundfont. 8 out of 10.
23. We Shall Go Together - Beautiful ending to the game. Nothing spectacular about it though. 6 out of 10.
24. Wish You Were Here - Our first taste of Trizza’s theme and by jegus it’s amazing. Very little can make you more hyped for act 2 than an intimidating introduction to the antagonist, a selfie over a burning village. WHOAHHH its actually playing now and I like it even more. That DROP. 9 out of 10 easily.
25. Intermission 1 - Welcome to the best track on the fucking album. I think the credits should always be the best. Starts off with continuing Trizza’s theme, letting us absorb what we just witnessed, as drawings of the game we just played appear. Then you get hints of the theme from Dammek’s hive. Quieter during this part.... funkier again... THEN IT GETS REALLY INTENSE. That’s easily my favourite part. Anyway, 10 out of 10. This track alone has me ready to wait for act 2.
26. Alternate Recipe - 8bit mix of the spice theme. Louder, which is good. 7.5 out of 10. Catchy.
27. Heavy Snaking - I... prefer the original snake theme in the context of a fight. This is ok to listen to by itself though. Oh gosh that bass! 8 out of 10 great music, wrong atmosphere for the extremely brief battle. This’d be great as a boss encounter theme though. If it was used in the right place, then it’d possibly score even a 9 or 10.
28. “How It Could Have Gone” - seems to be about the portal? A ot louder than what they went with. I wouldnt have minded this being merged with the actual theme, but I still think it could be better. 7 out of 10.I love the spookiness of the original and would be sad if that was gone.
29. Old steps - Dance, Joey, Dance! Not really a song.
30. UNDERTALE. 10/10. Sincerely. I love it.
Total musical rating - 8 out of 10. Does its job very well of being good but not distracting. Good background music, rather than the energetic music of Homestuck itself.

fandom meme : hit me up !
I was tagged by @flintvane and am genuinely embarrassed that i didn’t see this before now omg i’m so sorry babe
I’m tagging @sherlock-and-other-things , @girlwhowasntthere , @deinonychus-1 , @frodobagginsess , and @sherlokiofpigfarts ! and anyone else who would like to do this meme!!
putting it under the read more bc it’s hilariously long sO
1. YOUR CURRENT OTP(S)/OT3(S)/OTX(S)
oh gosh i have a bunch so i’m going to try and limit myself but pythacarus ( always ), gwen / leon and gwaine / percival from merlin, foggy / matt from daredevil ( i don’t watch daredevil anymore but i just watched the defenders so they’re on my mind ), jane / michael from jane the virgin, tom / sybil from downton abbey will always be a fave, dean / seamus, lavender / parvati, harry / ginny, and remus / sirius from the harry potter series, and then caleb / ben and robert / abe from TURN are my final two
2. A PAIRING YOU INITIALLY DIDN’T CONSIDER BUT SOMEONE CHANGED YOUR MIND (BONUS POINTS: WHO WAS THAT PERSON).
i’d never considered korinna / heptarian until @girlwhowasntthere mentioned them and now i actually really love the ship i’d never thought about it before
3. A PAIRING YOU USED TO LOVE, BUT IT ALL FELL APART FOR YOU.
oh god. um. you know i used to watch reign and i was a really big fan of mary and francis, whom i still love don’t get me wrong, but they took mary on a really uncomfortable plotline for me in i think the second season that was unnecessary and clearly purely for //drama// and i just couldn’t quite get over them doing that and what it did to the ship it just made me uncomfortable with them and with watching the show altogether
4. HAVE YOU ADDED ANYTHING CRACKY/HILARIOUS TO YOUR FANDOM, IF SO, WHAT.
i don’t know if this counts but i did the emily watches atlantis series? i don’t know if that counts but i think they’re funny so i’m putting it on the list?
5. WHAT’S THE LONGEST YOU’VE EVER BEEN IN A FANDOM
harry potter. i’m super proud to be a part of that fandom and i’ve been in it since the first book came out so that’s definitely the fandom i’ve been in the longest.
6. DO YOU REMEMBER YOUR FIRST OTP, IF SO WHO WAS IN IT.
i’m trying to think and it might’ve been richard / kahlan from legend of the seeker ( the show, not the books, i never actually read the books oops ), though i’m not sure.
7. NAME A FANDOM YOU DIDN’T CARE/THINK ABOUT UNTIL YOU SAW IT ALL OVER TUMBLR.
copying @flintvane ‘s answer and saying black sails !
8. SAY SOMETHING GENUINELY NICE ABOUT A CHARACTER WHO ISN’T ONE OF YOUR FAVES (CHARS YOU’RE NEUTRAL ON ARE FAIR GAME, AS ARE CHARS YOU DISLIKE)
oh god. there are a bunch i have things to say about and i can’t decide bUT i’m gonna go with petra from jane the virgin. i used to really hate her at the beginning of the series, i thought she was horrible and i just couldn’t stand her, but as the series has continued she’s really become this amazing and realistically flawed woman that i just want to see happy. i wouldn’t say she’s my fave, but i do want to see her happy.
9. NAME THREE THINGS YOU WISH YOU SAW MORE OR IN YOUR MAIN FANDOM (OR A FANDOM OF CHOICE)
i’m gonna say atlantis for this one sO
1. another season. i mean come on, guys. come on.
2. more pythacarus, we just got the one kiss ( which was amazing a+++ ) but that was pretty much it, i know they’re not the main focus of the show, but i do love them dearly and would’ve loved to have seen more
3. where the hell are the rest of the argonauts and why did jason not go back for them i need that reunion like. two years ago. pls.
10. CHOOSE A SONG AT RANDOM, WHICH SHIP OR CHARACTER DOES IT REMIND YOU OF
i just put my itunes on shuffle and “oceans” by seafret was the first song to come on, and it reminds me of ariadne / jason
11. A PAIRING YOU SHIP THAT YOU DON’T THINK ANYONE ELSE SHIPS
gwen / leon from merlin. i know merthur is the Big Ship of merlin, i don’t really see many other ships there except that one. but i think a lot about gwen being pretty much abandoned by everyone she loves / loved after arthur dies, since gwaine and arthur and elyan and morgana are all dead and merlin just decided to peace tf out, but the last shot we have of her is with leon and her being a queen on her own and bringing peace to albion, etc etc, and i just think. i mean. they said they were childhood friends somewhere back in i think season two, and they were really the two people besides gaius that knew arthur the longest, and i just think that after arthur died, they would’ve been each other’s main supports, and eventually, they could’ve ended up together. this is unnecessarily long but i just have a lot of feelings about them okay and i don’t know anyone else that ships them so they’re my ship for this wOO
12. YOUR MOST SCANDALOUS HEADCANON FOR YOUR CURRENT OTP(S)/OT3(S)/OTX(S)
i don’t think i really have any scandalous headcanons?? i’m very boring with my ships haha sorry, all my headcanons are angst or fluff
13. DO YOU HAVE ANY HARD AND FAST HEADCANONS THAT YOU WILL DIE DEFENDING, ABOUT ANYTHING AT ALL (GENDER IDENTITY, SEXUAL OR ROMANTIC ORIENTATION, EXTENDED FAMILY, SEXUAL PREFERENCES LIKE TOP/BOTTOM/SWITCH, RELATIONSHIP WITH POETRY, SERIOUSLY ANYTHING)
pretty much any poc harry potter hcs i will defend to the death, bisexual remus lupin, myka and hg wells in warehouse 13 dated at some point, bisexual harry potter, remus / tonks was unnecessary. i liked them and everything, but i didn’t really see the point of downgrading such an amazing woman like tonks to the Love Interest. she deserved better. even remus lupin knew that. danny in the defenders needs to say “i’m the immortal iron fist” less pls and thank. putting caleb and ben ( show: TURN ) with women ( that we never actually got to see ) at the end of the show was weird. bisexual musketeers. there aren’t enough lesbians in any shows m/m ships are easier to ship since there actually are some, but f/f ships are too rare and that’s a Problem. more women friendships, i’m super tired of the women being nasty to each other bc they like the same guy or whatever. peter pettigrew had a snape/lily -esque love for sirius, which is why he turned in the potters, so sirius would think remus was the secret keeper and have no one to turn to except peter. james potter grew up and evolved, pls don’t compare him to snape. neville longbottom is pure and must be protected. luna’s family can just be whimsical!! you don’t need a Dark and Edgy reason behind it, they can just be wonky and happy and weird!! every single nickname in the harry potter series is fckin hiLARIOUS. ginny weasley deserved better than she got in the movies, they did her a massive injustice.
14. 5 FAVORITE CHARACTERS FROM 5 DIFFERENT FANDOMS
1. ariadne ( i adore pythagoras but i’m gonna go with ariadne bc reasons ), atlantis
2. constance, the musketeers
3. cosima, orphan black
4. ginny, harry potter series ( /quietly pushes movie!ginny into a corner book!ginny for life )
5. ben talmidge, TURN
15. 3 OTPS FROM 3 DIFFERENT FANDOMS
i’m gonna put ones that i didn’t put in the first question :
1. nomi / amanita ( sense8 )
2. korinna / ariadne ( atlantis )
3. luna / ginny ( harry potter series )
16. 5 FAVORITE SHIPS
THESE ARE SUCH HARD QUESTIONS OH MY GOD i’m going to try and put ones i haven’t mentioned before all of my ships that i’ve mentioned are favorites though okay
1. captain james / molly ( our girl )
2. fleur / tonks ( harry potter )
3. hernando / lito ( sense8 )
4. athelstan / ragnar ( vikings )
5. sirius / peter ( harry potter )
17. JUST RAMBLE ABOUT SOMETHING FAN-RELATED, GO GO GO (PROMPTS OPTIONAL BUT ENCOURAGED)
i came late into the atlantis fandom, so i didn’t get much of a chance to be there before the series was over, but i remember seeing it all over my dash before season two came out, it was like the day before the second season started, and i was like. i gotta check this series out. so i watched the first episode of the first season, and proceeded to marathon the entire first season so i could start the second season with you lovely people in the atlantis fandom, and honestly, i’ve never been part of a better, happier, drama-free fandom. i love it so much and i love all of you so much and this is slightly cheesy but i just think everyone in the fandom is amazing.
other things. um. okay well this is sort of fan-related, but i’ve met the most amazing group of people through my group, @orderfromchaos-rp. it’s such a talented and fantastic group of incredible writers, and i just love all of them to pieces, i’ve never had such an amazing rp experience.
i’m hardcore worried about johnny depp and jude law playing against each other in fbawtft. i’m not a fan of jude law for this role and i actively, adamantly hate johnny depp, so i’m honestly worried that’s going to ruin that ship for me.
i’m super excited about being a part of all the fandoms i’m in, honestly, i don’t totally know what to do for this part of this meme so i’m just ranting but i’m seriously hoping i can be in a fandom that doesn’t have its show cancelled soon after i enter it, because being longterm fandom buddies with new material sounds amazing and i would love to be a part of something like that again, i’m not really active in many fandoms rn and i wanna change that, so hmu with any suggestions for things i should watch!!!!
#emily answers stuff#fandom memes#this was so hard but so amazing to do!!!#flintvane#emily yells about stuff

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017) Review
So this is the reason why David Beckham doesn’t act in films..
Plot: Robbed of his birthright, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy - whether he likes it or not.
It’s fair to say that this film hasn’t been getting the best critical reviews. And let’s not even discuss the box office numbers here. However after now witnessing the film with my own eyes, I do agree that the film is a mess, though I’d also say that it doesn’t deserve the negativity that it is getting. Yes, there are a lot of plot holes and parts that don’t make sense, but they are overshadowed, in my opinion, by other scenes that are done spectacularly, the visuals and also certain cast performances, most notably Charlie Hunnam as the king of the Round-table himself, who continues on successfully showing that he is an actor to watch out for, as he was great in ‘The Lost City of Z’ earlier this year, and now he gives a strong powerful performance here too. The overall story arc in the film too can be seen as very good, it’s just that it doesn’t work well as a film. The movie tries to cram way to many events into 2 hours, when in reality this would have worked way better as a TV series.
With this being a very modernised version of the King Arthur tale, with many characters acting very London-gangster type, there were surprisingly many nods to Shakespearean style of writing with certain scenes having characters talk in a specific rhythm and making use of rhyming, which I found to be quite interesting.
The complaint that I do have with this film is the editing. Guy Ritchie is known to have great editing in his films, like say ‘Sherlock Holmes’ or ‘The Man from U.N.C.L.E.’, however the editing in this movie is terrible. From the very first opening action sequence there are these massive giant elephants (bigger than those in ‘Lord of the Rings’) stomping around whilst a battle is going on, and what could have been a great scene with well choreographed action is ruined by the fast-paced editing where the camera shot changes every 2-3 seconds, making you as the audience wonder what the hell is actually going on. If this weren’t a Guy Ritchie film, the editing would have still annoyed me but not as much, but because it is Ritchie, who is known to have great editing in his films, its all the more disappointing.
Most performances in the movie are solid, with Charlie Hunnam as the highlight, however there are a few cast members that slightly pull the film down. The main female lead is this Mage who has special powers, and there was a whole thing about her character that annoyed me already which was that she uses her magical powers at the end to save the day, however her character had no development throughout the film, so if she had the same magical powers at the beginning and end of the film, why didn’t she just use her magic skills in the beginning and saved the day from the start, end of? Doesn’t help that the character is given a very one-note weak performance by Astrid Berges-Frisbey. Jude Law generally is quite good as the film’s villain Vortigern, giving a sinister dark performance as someone who is willing to do anything, even sacrifice his loved ones, to achieve ultimate power. Sadly though he is very under-used in the film, and he spends most scenes sitting in the main chamber of his castle shouting out orders and complaining about the fact that his men still haven’t captured Arthur like a whiny little b****! Then there is also that cameo by David Beckham, which, the least we talk about the better.
The film’s strongest point by far is it’s score. My gosh the soundtrack of this film is stellar, with each music score fitting perfectly in sync to what’s going on on screen, and the various medieval beats only add to the experience. It was very Hans Zimmer-esque at times, and, let’s be honest, we can never get enough of Zimmer!
This is a film that definitely has a lot of problems, mainly with it’s editing, as well as certain cast performances and the many plot holes and certain scenes playing out at an unnecessarily slow pace which caused me to become bored at certain moments. But this is balanced out by Charlie Hunnam’s performance, the visuals, certain well made scenes, the London-geezer modern tone, the use of Shakespeare as inspiration and most notably the music score. It’s definitely worth the watch, though I can guarantee you that editing style will get on your nerves.
Overall score: 5/10
TOP MOVIE QUOTE: “Bouncing on my knee, where d’ya think I want ya, hands on the hilt, stupid!” Imagine hearing that in David Beckham’s voice. So bad that it’s funny!
