Hells yeah, freeway bicycle riding!🙌😍 Yep, used 15 miles of the shoulder of Interstate 84 to get to Hood River. (Yes, it's legal.) #freewaybicycling #columbiagorge #interstate84 #gorgedalleseasttourjune17 (at Cascade Locks, Oregon)

Yep! Got home last night, after riding about 40 miles (25 miles before catching the bus, 15 after.) About 330 miles of riding over 8 days. Todayecovery day, as I give my body some rest and clean up and sort out. Should be writing a blog post soon, if #pedalpalooza doesn't kill me this week! #gorgedalleseasttourjune17 (at Maryhill Stonehenge)

Top of the ridge! Looking down towards the John Day valley, into which I'll descend shortly. Looking forward to spending the night at Cottonwood Canyon State Park. No cellular service, so the starry skies, shortwave radio, and river will have to keep me company!😎 #cottonwoodcanyonstatepark #gorgedalleseasttourjune17 (at Cottonwood Canyon State Park)

Wasco, Oregon. 30 miles in. The last couple hours have been taxing, as I've climbed up from the Columbia River on a 90F/32C day with little in the way of shade. Took a long shade break, and now 15 more miles to Cottonwood Canyon, where I'll camp for the night. #gorgedalleseasttourjune17 (at Wasco, Oregon)

Enjoying some post ride beers after today's headwind packed days. The brewery is playing "90s Club Mix" which means the majority of the songs are from 1989 to 1993, the same years I was in high school. It's hard to not hear songs and think "Freshman Year." And when "U Can't Touch This" by MC Hammer came on, I realized we both live(d) in Oakland, though not at the same time that song came out. Ironically, they haven't played 2 Live Crew, only because a song of theirs played through my head earlier. (The rest of the tour's soundtrack was mostly The Clash's Sandinista, with some Bob Welch era Fleetwood Mac (Mystery To Me) thrown in. Now you know too much...😉 #gorgedalleseasttourjune17 (at White Salmon, Washington)

File under: "Character Building" Bike Touring. 48 miles. The first half consisted of a very scenic dead end. The second half consisted of battling a 20 miles/hour headwind while riding the shoulder of I-84. I hoped to make it to Horsetheif Lake or maybe Maryhill. When I saw that LePage Park, where the John Day River meets the Columbia, had camping, I wisely called it a day. It's an Army Corps of Engineers site, which means good facilities (despite me not caring much for ACE). Tomorrow I plan to get going to beat the wind. Maybe I can make it the 70 miles to Stevenson, Washington and catch the WET bus home tomorrow night. But it's probably more realistic to catch the Columbia Gorge Express bus on Sunday. In any case, I'm digging the wind sheltered Picnic area! #johndayriver #columbiagorge #columbiariver #interstate84 #freewaybicycling #johndaydam #gorgedalleseasttourjune17 (at Lepage Park Campground)
