Silly question ¿a qué huele el verano?

Ahora no lo sé, pero si pienso en un olor que defina el verano siempre pienso en el olor de la hierba seca por las noches, que es a lo que olía en el pueblo de León donde pasaba los veranos de canijo. Es un olor muy característico, no es que huela muy fuerte, pero está ahí, y cuando refrescaba y se salía por la noche a tomar el fresco ahí estaba, acompañado del canto de los grillos y del de las lechuzas. Era un olor que tenía muy asociado a un cielo con estrellas que ya no se ven y a los puntos verdes de las luciérnagas entre la hierba que tampoco se ven ya.

Y es un olor que tengo muy asociado a la infancia porque en Asturies los veranos son muy húmedos como para que la hierba se seque, así que aunque me eche al monte, no está ahí.

Lo olí por última vez hace dos años, trabajando en verano en Pola de Gordón, y fue un recuerdo desbloqueado que casi me saca una lagrimilla, porque los veranos ya no huelen así.

From the streets of Manhattan to Ipanema's beach without scales, Carolina Herrera arrives with her first show in Brazil

On the first of June, the brand Carolina Herrera did her first fashion show outside of New York, and they chose nothing more or less than Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The city was the one to present the Resort 2024 collection.

When we think of Brazil, we almost feel the smell of the sea, the sunscreen, and the joy that comes with the summer. This essence was the inspiration for Wes Gord��n, the creative director, to make this collection.

The day of the show started with a lovely sunset and a particular challenge: a storm rose above the city, but far from inhibiting the people, it made bloom a particular emotion because, on that day and until June 30th, the time of the Festas Juninas is inaugurated. San Antonio, San Juan, and San Pedro are thanked, but they also ask for rains that generate a good harvest. The water created the perfect climate for the models, who had to recreate the girl from Ipanema.

The runway: a sunny day of vacation almost indoors

The collection was characterized by colors and textures that were everywhere. Flowered dresses, fringed skirts, polka dot prints, and barefoot models with heels in hand were seen throughout the show. The mixture of the elegance that characterizes Carolina Herrera with the stridentness of Brazilian culture generated a balance that allowed fantasy in the mundane. Carolina managed to show that holidays and everyday life are nothing more than an open show. Not surprising, this season she sought to portray the world with a "reinforced spirit of relaxed confidence."

Golden closure on the Brazilian night

The collection itself was not only a challenge due to climate issues but also because of what it meant to break into a country with a very different lifestyle. In times of the internet and a booming culture of cancellation, it is highly difficult for these combinations to be correctly achieved. However, it seems that Carolina Herrera passed the test. The brand knew how to mix the best of each world, generating new designs that they transmitted to each place without losing their essence. Chapeaux for this challenge achieved in pure color!

Manuela Campa y Echave (1876-1905) pintora española.

Nació en San Sebastián donde fue bautizada el 23/08/1876. Era hija de Baldomero de la Campa Bardio quien figura en el censo de 1893 como de profesión dorador, domiciliado en la calle  Puerto nº 16 1º (es elegible para cargo público y sabe leer y escribir) y de Dolores Echave Ystueta (también bautizada en San Sebastián).

Manuela Campa fue alumna de Rogelio Gordón pintor reconocido y profesor en la escuela de artes y oficios y participó en la exposición que se celebró en el año 1.896 donde presentó tres cuadros: Un Lavadero, Patio de San Telmo y Marienea.

La autora, nacida en Donostia el 23 de agosto de 1876, era hija de Dolores Echave y Baldomero de la Campa. Su padre fue un pintor decorador establecido en la ciudad a finales de la década de 1860, especializado en estofadura y doradura.

Decoró diversos edificios (el Palacio Provincial de Gipuzkoa, entre otros), y realizó labores de restauración de retablos tanto en Donostia (como el de la iglesia de San Vicente o el convento de Santa Teresa de la capital) como en el resto del territorio.

El jueves 7 de enero de 1904, se casó con Pablo Ostolaza. Tuvieron una hija que nació el 19 de diciembre de 1904 y se llamó Mª Del Coro, que cursó estudios de magisterio y murió a los 19 años, el 20 de abril de 1924.

Se sabe muy poco sobre la dedicación de Manuela Campa a la pintura, aunque sería lógico pensar que, como otras hijas de artistas del siglo XIX que siguieron los pasos paternos, recibió su primera formación de su padre.

La única mención conocida sobre ella como pintora está vinculada a su participación en la Primera Exposición de Pintura y Escultura de San Sebastián, celebrada en agosto de 1896, en la que presentó tres óleos: Un lavadero, Marienea y Patio de San Telmo. Obtuvo al menos el genérico halago de la prensa local: “Tres cuadritos que son los primeros pasos de una artista de verdaderas condiciones. Bien dibujados y sinceros. Merece una felicitación muy calurosa la joven artista”.
