Back Up Often, Back Up Local.
Hey kids, it's your local elder millenial coming at you live to remind you that anything on a cloud server or a social media network (including this one) is not to be considered secure. If you have artwork or writing you value, back up often, and back up local. Storage space is cheap, get yourself some USB sticks or an external drive and store that shit, or god forbid, if you're lucky enough to have access to an optical drive every so often burn a disc of archived works. There is no promise that an online server you post to will be there tomorrow. I've just learned that ello shuttered overnight and took down all the artwork stored there. It's no big one to me because I store local, but there's a lot of people who are hurting due to the loss, and I've been there kids. I did heaps of really interesting writing and artwork that I published on servers that don't even exist anymore. Even well maintained, well loved servers reach the end of their lifespan and are switched off, decommissioned, and or compromised. Power outages, natural disaster, the works - keep it in your own hands, and you know exactly where it is and what state it's in.
If you have questionable living arrangements or dangerous people around you that make your art or writing insecure at home, the next best thing is to email to a trusted friend and get them to download and store local.
Storing across multiple platforms is better than nothing, I guess, if you don't have that option - so Google Drive and Protondrive, multiple different email addresses (mail them back and forth) and private posts on networks on which you don't usually publish (Dreamwidth is still going strong and is actively involved in fighting restrictive social media laws - they deserve your attention).
If you write in Google docs, for the love of pterry back it up or post it privately somewhere else once it's done.
No one tells the young people, so I am going to - back up often, and back up local. If you live through your art, keep it in your own hands. Do not trust corporations to keep your shit safe for you, and remember - you can never have too many backups.

There's gonna be scam and phishing texts running rampant this weekend specifically, so your local software developer/IT guy is here to post a couple reminders. I've made the important text red to stick out in case TL;DR.
If a text asks you to click on a link that you did not explicitly ask for, don't click it. Instead, go to the site of whoever they claim to be (e.g: A text claiming to be UPS says your package couldn't be delivered and sends a link, so go to ups.com and resolve the issue that way if it even exists). It's imperative that you do not click on the link in the text under any circumstances. See number 2.
Do not send a read receipt. If you send a read receipt, that tells the scammer that your number is active and they should keep you on their mailing list for further scamming. Furthermore, they may share your number with other scammers.
Seriously, do not click that link under any circumstances by the way. Even if you want to, just to test if it works. If there's anything in that link like "?id=589hjsfgsdfhjg3" or something, that's a parameter that will be passed into the server hosting the website. That id is unique to you, and it will, like in number 2, ping the scammers that your number is active in the best scenario. In the worst scenario, it will launch malicious software on your phone. You should always assume the worst from these situations, so do not click that link. Period.
If you are on Android, you can are usually given a choice to send a read receipt when you tap on the message. In almost all circumstances, you are better off choosing not to send read receipts, especially here. If you are on iOS, tap and hold the message to preview it without sending a read receipt. If you want to just delete this text and not deal with it, then just delete it and report it as junk.
For those of you that actually want to take these places down, go to the ICANN Lookup tool, type in the URL, and then email whoever is listed as the abuse contact email. I'd also include the number of whoever texted you.
If there is no email listed to contact, Google has a report phishing page if you search "Report phishing". This will, at the very least, take them off of Google in case they're using search results to also lure in victims.
Stay safe this weekend and be on the lookout for stuff like this.

Permanent Roleplay Ad
Tumblr media
Pen Name: Writer Age: 23 Currently: (Selectively) Accepting Age for RP Partner: 18+ Location: Discord/Google Docs/G-Mail Warning: I am very selective about this, please read the entire post.
All info that I figure is relevant has been posted under the cut. Enjoy!
Requirements
Literacy: Literate/Advanced Lit Size of Replies: 6-8 paragraphs per side, so a total of 12-16 paragraphs per reply. Anywhere from 3.5k chars to 8k chars per side, usually (500-1,000 words per side). Genres: Romance, Adventure, Action, Fantasy Preferred Reply Speed: Anywhere from once a week to once a month. POV: Third Person, Past Tense. Fandom: My Hero Academia/Boku No Hero Academia Universe Type: Soulmate AU (more info later on) Where: Discord/E-Mail/Google Docs NSFW: I am happy portraying NSFW, but only between adult characters.
I will not accept adult x minor RPs. I am more than fine accepting CC x CC, OC x Canon, or SI x Canon from other parties.
I will not accept adult SIs that have been aged down to ship with teenagers.
The inverse holds true as well- I will not accept minor SIs that have been aged up to be with adults.
I can portray anyone for your OC (or canon if you want a CC x CC on your end), but do keep in mind that I only accept Toshinori Yagi as Finley Well's love interest. If you do not want to portray Toshinori Yagi for me in exchange for whoever on your side, please do not contact me.
Whether you prefer Discord. Google Docs, or E-Mail, I will be making a web of ways to talk to you. Bare minimum will be channels/E-Mail threads for: general OOC conversation, artwork and reference images, music we may want to send one another, character headcanons/info, plotting, specific in-universe details, planned events, filler ideas/little in-universe events, and another channel/thread for the roleplay itself.
Regardless of what you want to RP on (Discord, Google Docs, G-Mail), if you have a Discord, I will probably ask for it so I can at least set up an OOC space for us.
Please be alright with my side (YagiFin) being a quickburn. I don't want to portray any slowburns (that's- not really my style) but I'm more than fine to do medium burns, if it's preferred over a quickburn romance.
You must be capable of writing in complete English, with decent grammar and spelling. A mistake every now and then is fine, but text loaded with spelling/grammatical errors will not be accepted.
While it is not required, I'm a bit of a purple-prose writer- so I enjoy writing emotions and thoughts into my responses, as well as general scenery and the like. It would be nice if you could match this, though it is not required, if you're more of a technical writer. I do, however, wish you luck in somehow meeting the word minimum.
Initial Message
Please send me a writing sample early on. I will not move forward to making a server/handing out my E-Mail until I have read your writing sample.
Please send me the info listed below, I don't have a passcode, but if this is not sent I will not respond to you:
Pen Name: Age Range: Favorite Genre to RP: Least Favorite Genre to RP: Preferred Romance Speed (quickburn/mediumburn): Favorite MHA Character(s): Favorite Arc (if any): OC / OC Info (if applicable): Who you'd like me to portray for you (can be one character or a list): Timezone: Writing Sample:
Extra Stuff (That Fits Nowhere Else)
Another 'not required' but it is in this area since it fits nowhere else: it would be nice if our characters could root for each other! Whether it be your OC and Fin's being friends supporting the other's blossoming relationship, or other such things- I just find that kind of link between characters helps make the roleplay more fun!
Please be sure to read the Soulmate AU Info section in its entirety. If you have any questions, feel free to let me know- and if you can, please let me know early on if you have anywhere in particular you want the Words to be for your pairing, as well as what the Words are!
The RP will always start near the start of the MHA series. I like to RP through the series from the top, in each RP. I also enjoy incorporating each of the movies (as I can) into the RP, depending on how far I get.
Note: My timezone is EST! Also, I will not be doing any RPs that are particularly angst-heavy, as that isn't my style. I prefer fluffy romance, but I will do some angst (since fluff cannot exist in a vacuum). If you're here just to torture a couple, please contact someone else, that's not my jam.
Soulmate AU Info
The Soulmate AU I’ve crafted starts with one of the base ideas of a generic Soulmate AU - the first Words your soulmate will ever say to you (if you have any) are written somewhere on your body, in your soulmate’s native language and specific handwriting. These Words are pitch-black until spoken to the target, and once spoken, they will glow- until the target realizes who their Soulmate is. One cannot die until their Words have glowed at least once, so there are some who are incredibly reckless as a result. There are some who wander the world, their Words having been glowing for years- but with no idea as to who their Soulmate is.
The Words begin to feel as though they are burning if a Soulmate is in danger- it can range from a faint uncomfortable sensation to an intense agony, like one is being branded or cut through with a blazing knife (the strength of the burning sensation depends on the danger the Soulmate is in, with life-threatening being the most painful). Any injuries that occur to one’s Soulmate’s Words can be felt by the other person, on their Words. Words are also located in generally the same location, and Soulmates can be polycules or couples, or anything in between- and range from romantic to platonic.
Some actively seek out their Soulmate(s) for the sake of the power boost such a meeting offers. To meet your Soulmate is to have your stats suddenly see an increase- though it isn’t always the best. Heroes have been tied with Civilians. Villains have been tied with Heroes. Soulmates of powerful or important individuals (if an important individual has a Soulmate) have to be careful due to the target on their back, since if your Soulmate dies, so do you. It’s not an immediate death- but within the course of a month, if one’s Soulmate has died… They will wither away as well, the speed at which it occurs depending on their willpower, but none who have Soulmates survive beyond a month after their Soulmate’s death.
Sections of Hero Agencies have been dedicated to protecting Pro Heroes’ Soulmates, and kidnappings have been known to happen when a Villain finds their Soulmate. Civilian pairings are the safest- but by no means happen all the time. Some think the Words are a curse, but there is no way to remove them.
There are also some Quirks that are Soulmate-centric, and thus do not affect those without Soulmates.
Toshinori Yagi has spent years keeping All Might’s Soulmate tie a secret. He made sure his costume’s sleeves were long enough that no one would ever see the two simple Words written there- dodging questions about having a Soulmate every chance he could. He’d never met them, his Words were pitch-black… Two simple Words, in scratchy English: Oh, hi!
He could never let anyone know All Might had a Soulmate. The target that would be painted on such an individual… They would never survive.
Toshinori’s stat increase was that his timer as All Might doubled, and even after episode 49 of the anime/his fight with AfO, he can technically turn into All Might for a few minutes at a time- but his power is still greatly diminished. Diminished far too much for him to continue his work as a Hero, though it does help in split-second circumstances, if he burns through what few minutes he has in a momentary burst of strength.
Fin’s stat increase was a general increase to their strength, speed, and stamina to near superhuman levels- they can lift up to 550lbs after meeting All Might, and run up to 24mph (though it takes a little bit to get to that speed). Their Quirk remained as it was, with no noticeable increase- though at the time that Fin met Yagi, they didn’t know ‘Quirkless’ meant something a little more when it came to them.
Generally, when I RP in this AU, one of my first questions for others about their ships is: What Words they want their ship to have, and where. This helps immensely in setting up the starter.
Writing Sample
My writing sample is actually available on a document, now! Enjoy~!

HTML, RichText, and BB_Markup
Back in the day "RichText" or text that can be stylized like you would in Microsoft Word, or an E-Mail, wasn't often available in social media platforms.
And there's still some social media platforms who don't allow it at all.
This has multiple reasons, the processing is done in script at the browser level, and so there used to be performance reasons not to allow it. Or most of your users would experience a slow down just to view the text, why bother with it?
As browsers started getting more comfortable and fast enough to deliver HTML pages, with the markup allowed in HTML, HTML became the default. But as JavaScript grew in popularity, scope and use. HTML itself became a way for people to inject scripts directly into the page.
And instead of just, cleaning script tags and other injection vulnerabilities, websites took HTML away from users all together. This was a problem, in Part, directly influenced by the W3C {World-wide web consortium}, and big-browser (Microsoft, Netscape, and Mozilla, and later Google, Apple, and Opera) who all implemented HTML/CSS/JS differently.
Nobody knows why they did this, they just did. (Actually, there's a bunch of different reasons, but as you look deeper into the rabbit hole, the more absurd it gets.)
After that, forum and social media designers came up with *BB_Markup* I think BB means blackboard, but who knows for sure anymore.
BB was basically a shorthand HTML markup that used square-brackets instead of triangle-brackets, and at a server level, that markup got turned into *safe* HTML markup--to avoid user-level injection attacks.
We also get a bunch of other short hand that may or may not be used in certain platforms (like reddit) to this day. Wrapping text in asterisks to italicize a word, or tildes or the little wavey dash (~) which denote bolding under lining or strike through depending on what you're used to.
All sorts of things that some people who were netizens of the 90s and early-00s might still be in the habit of using.
Today, there's little reason for browsers to even allow <script> or script-referencing mark-up at that particular level anymore. Which would solve A LOT of early security issues. But they don't change it back because a lot of websites still use tricks like that, because that's what developers do.
Even though advertising still allows injection and browser-hijacking at a "user-level" just like in the olden days. Yep, if you host ads, there's a good chance you're allowing those ads to deliver malware to your users.
Looking at you YouTube and websites that say "Please stop using ad-block". They don't use them to prevent you from getting paid, they use them to stop you from injecting their device with malware.
You big dummys.
That's part of the reason why I'm an advocate of "ad-reform". Advertising companies are leveraging their ad-platforms for more than simply delivering ads.
There's a drive to put internet tools only in the hands of companies, taking net freedoms a lot of early-adopters take for granted, not like ad-block, more like not having to worry about malware being delivered to you while you're powerless to stop it.
I'm not even talking about internet surveillance, I'm talking about advertising companies delivering malware to office equipment. You know those hacks that seemingly target large databases everyday?
Paid Advertising.
Since a lot of, too many even, Internet users these days even know the basics of HTML/CSS/JS, they don't even get to see what it feels like to have the inspection tools be taken away from you so you can see how it is these websites are f* you.
I can't even [view source] on my phone anymore. *That's considered* a bigger security risk than ad-delivery hijacking *your* phone.
How much does ad delivery cost these days, and you can see, that's the price of delivering malware to the user. Not just advertising products.

I’ve said this before on Twitter but I want to expand on this a bit more: I hate substack and other “newsletter” things (and don’t get me started on Medium). There’s great content being published that way, but the technology base just drives me nuts.
Because these things are actually just blogs! Not in the Tumblr sense, but classic blogs. They live on the web, they’re often not time sensitive, and they even have an RSS feed, not that you’d know. It’s under /feed for Substack, and found via the <link rel="alternate" tag that web browsers used to support. Some RSS readers like Reeder can make use of that.
Of course RSS is kind of dead. Web browsers dropped their support, the biggest reader, Google Reader, was shut down years ago. You can still use RSS to keep up with your favorite websites, comics, blogs and Substack “newsletters”, and in fact I recommend doing so, it’s great! But most people don’t.
And so the whole newsletter thing is really just a workaround for RSS’s demise. Instead of RSS, we deliver the updates via the only remaining widespread multi-party unrestricted system there is: Fucking email. Like it’s 1971. And of course the need to send these emails creates the need to have someone with their own mail server who knows how to do mass mailings without being treated as spam, so you need to have Substack as the central service provider in the middle. We managed to centralize blogging, of all things. The form of internet communication that should have the lowest barriers to doing it yourself with only Notepad as a tool. Drives me nuts.

observations on the future of social media in regards to P2P and Blockchains and decentralized protocols in general ie nostr/iris, bluesky etc, what it means in Threads, Tumblr and Twitter/X's case and what it means to us as users
prefacing this with I'm just a person with access to google and a hefty amount of curiosity and a layman's understanding of the subjects so I will most likely be wrong about a couple things but I just wanted to write this to get a discussion going in a public space about what these social medias mean for the future of the internet and what I think their goals are and also to just get my thoughts in order
P2P in the simplest of terms is how torrenting works, it is peer 2 peer sharing of information ie computer 2 computer, so for example if you download something sent to you by a person from google drive its person > google servers > you, however if you torrent somethings its person > you (well in actuality its Multiple people> you and that's what seeding is but I am keeping it simple for my own sake) So in my quest to find a way to p2p stream things directly from a computer to another computer not on the same network on github, I've found that a huge amount of research has been done in general on P2P implementation beyond just media sharing in the last couple of years
and subsequently I fell down a rabbit hole of P2P social media, so what that means is imagine a social media without a middle man or a direct company. Twitter right now works as such, person tweets > passes through twitter servers > you access their tweet as shown to you through the twitter servers this mode of information sharing requires physical servers to store this data on, most companies don't own their own servers but instead rent them, usually from amazon or google, and twitter is the same, in fact almost everything on the internet is hosted through amazon servers and they have intense monopoly worldwide (x) (x)
this is partially how countries can exert their laws on these social media companies
P2P makes all of this obsolete, reduces the overhead cost of servers and takes them out of the equation, the sharing of information will be pingponged through multiple computers instead of passed through one large middle man that can be prosecuted and contacted for hosting/platforming this data. personally I am very excited about the development of P2P technology however, this form of decentralized social media isn't new people have been experimenting with it since 2012 and the early internet ran on p2p (IRC), but the biggest difference now is that people have combined it with blockchains (bitcoin) (W3C ie Web.3 consortium pretentious name I know) and this brings me to the current Big Fish battle that is happening right now between IRIS(NOSTR)/Blusky and Threads, Twitter
So starting with IRIS, most people have probably not heard of IRIS but what IRIS is, is a p2p social media running on a protocol called NOSTR, ELI5 protocols are just Ways of doing things/sharing information/guidelines, ie emails are just a protocol called SMTP (simple mail transfer protocol) that companies can build things around ex: gmail, runs on SMTP protocol I stumbled on the ex CEO of twitter Jack Dorsey on IRIS and a couple things struck me first scrolling through the site and his account. first even though Jack Dorsey is on the board of directors for bluesky and helped in its development he more so wants NOSTR protocol and IRIS to succeed and seems to be pushing them more heavily even on his twitter secondly the little dollar amount tied to every post he makes,
Tumblr media
this literary banger is apparently worth a dollar and a half in "Zap Coins" this leads me to speculate on the future of bluesky because to me it seems like IRIS is being used as a testing ground for bluesky, bluesky currently DOESNT have bitcoin tied to its posts like nostr does but it does have the groundworks laid in in its protocol! I offhandedly mentioned previously that social medias are combining P2P and blockchain this time around and thats exactly what is happening in IRIS and what bluesky seems to be working towards, now what does this mean in IRIS's case? well from my understanding is that creating accounts on IRIS is exactly like creating a crypto wallet, in that your account will have its own unique generated hash encrypted number and every post you make is like making a transaction in the blockchain ie it has its own hash attached to it hence every post you make has a monetary value pros > makes you hard to find, posts are decentralized and spread over multiple computers worldwide and encrypted >can make as many accounts as you want no need for verification you just need to remember the unique hash attached to them >no servers hosting your information governments and companies have less control cons (to me anyways lol) >monetized posts >the power balance gets shifted from companies and goverments to ISP's and their abilities to connect you to other computers worldwide >nothing can ever actually be deleted its all recorded, you can orphan posts from your account I think? but they will still be findable
what does this mean in Blue sky's case?
Well starting with the differences, Bluesky is NOT p2p it is running on its own self made "decentralized" protocol called ATP (@ protocol) it is very theoretical and doesn't have any actual implementation anywhere as opposed to NOSTR and other protocols that twitter and tumblr run on I read through it and looked up some things but I genuinely don't understand how its supposed to be decentralized especially with how it seems to be implemented in actuality, so currently bluesky has frequent outages and is slow to use, if it were decentralized these things shouldn't be affecting everyone? so from my understanding it says that everyone has their own server PDS (personal direct server) that will host their posts and that it all PDS will be connected via a crawler which will siphon that information to an app, which I GUESS is decentralized but what does PDS mean in this case? signing up to bluesky is most definitely not hosting your own server with your own posts, you are putting these posts on a server somewhere, but who is it owned by? I read some articles saying that bluesky is starting out by hosting their own servers for you in that case they've just invented twitter 2 but with more flexibility in regards to third party implementation anyways rant aside, the similarities, while iris isnt the same as bluesky, bluesky's philosophy seems to be in a similar vain to iris and blue sky is following iris' steps closely, while iris isn't owned by one single entity, blue sky board of directors want to make some cash money and I assume thats why they didnt fully lean into p2p
like I mentioned before Blue Sky's protocol has the capabilities for bitcoin integration baked into it (x) I dont know if they will try to monetize the posts in the same way directly in bluesky as is done in IRIS but the ATP is very flexible and what that means is that they can create a different monetary based app that you don't even need to sign up for you'd just use your bluesky credentials and you'd have a crypto wallet tied to your blue sky account because your ID isn't tied to just blue sky, its tied to anything running the ATP protocol
sound familiar? this is what Elon musk is trying to do with Twitter rn and this is basically where he got the idea, he wants to make twitter the one stop shop app for everything, but this isn't a fantasy unattainable idea this is coming directly from the protocols IRIS and Bluesky use, and I will not be surprised if in the near future we see him attempt to integrate bitcoin into twitter
Twitter, Threads and Tumblr (triple T haha 3T if you will) are all going to try and compete with Bluesky and Iris because ~money~, but they are doing so with.... *drum rolls* Mastedon! the dark horse or more accurately the protocol that Mastedon uses which is called ActivityPUB, Activitypub is older than both NOSTR and ATP and has a history of a wide range of implementation, however if you've ever used Mastodon you'd know its very limited in its capabilities when it comes to social media
Tumblr media
This is basically I theorize/speculate is one of the reasons tumblr changed its looks, they are trying to standardize social media between all 3 of them and basically build bridges between each other so as to combat IRIS and BlueSky This is not to say they will become like Mastedon however, in fact between Threads which has a huge amount of money to throw at inventing things and polishing the Activepub protocol and Automattic which owns tumblr and has owned wordpress for even longer who have a familiarity with blogging platforms and multi integration across multiple platforms I think they can be strong competitors
dont ask me what twitter is doing, I am not even certain it will integrate activitypub 100% I just think thats the easiest and fastest way to try and achieve elon's goals and threads and tumblr are combining
so what does it mean exactly when these sites say they will use ActivityPub?
it just means that they are trying to build bridges between each other, that is very vague and obscure of course because idk how they will go about it, the most basic way is post sharing between sites will change and become easier but its not limited to just that, IDK if they will even change the sites themselves instead of just building addons but tumblr's aesthetic change makes me think that they will
more importantly what does this mean for us Users?
well if you've read this far, I just want to emphasize that this isn't something to doom about, while I don't support crypto 100% I think the next wave of social media is headed in a good direction in that people are Finally focusing on decentralizations, social media that isn't under the thumb of one company or hosted on one single server (tumblr servers for example ALLEGEDLY were hosted on one amazon server without backup x) we are finally moving in a direction that is more open as I listed in the pros section above when it comes to IRIS I personally think those ones are worth the cons, however I want people to understand when they are joining bluesky, threads etc the conversation isn't about what these websites are good at NOW, you are NOT joining a twitter copy, all the social medias are gearing up to move away into a new era of internet, it may look the same but under the hood their goals are different, as far as I can tell every social media's goals are focused on 3 things currently >decentralization (lowering their costs in moderation, hosting etc) >getting money, alot of money as fast as possible (crypto integration, selling your data) >beating their competition and surviving as the big fish (protocols are duking it out iris/bluesky vs the world)
like I said at the start of this post I am just a layman with a keyboard, these are just observations I've made, and I could be wrong about multiple things here! but either way, curious about where we are headed

hi there! i'm dani. looking to rp some of the yellowjackets kids during the hiatus. in particular i am interested in something pre-crash/no crash, post-crash/rescue or canon-divergent (if you watch the show you probably Know what i mean) but i could also be persuaded into some kind of canon re-write. i'm lazy lit, prefer to write on discord, via google docs, or e-mail, and i'm down double/triple/or more (particularly if we use discord/a server for easy character separation!) the rp will probably contain some gore, maybe some nsfw content (...if we age them up/play in a post-crash or even in between or 2021 timeline)
pairings i'm interested in (i've bolded who i have experience writing. if they're both bold i don't have a preference in who i write either! these are also in no particular order.)
jackie/shauna lottie/nat misty/nat tai/van lottie/laura lee nat/lottie/laura lee jackie/nat tai/shauna
i'm also kind of interested in playing around with some of the background yj's. i'd kill to play the mel to someone's gen in the background of any of the above or as a standalone! i'm also fond of throwing together any of the main characters into a pairing because i could figure out a way to ship any of them. poly is also welcome in my book if done right and well!
you can just shoot me a message here if you're interested and we can chat a bit, see if we'd be a good fit.

You know how everyone agrees that the Internet has turned to shit?
Well, at least almost everyone who was around when the web was young agrees on it. This isn't a post to just bitch about the enshittification of everything online. No, this is a post to tell you what you can do to fight it!
But first let me just quickly sum up what the problem is:
The issue is mainly that the Internet and the World Wide Web went from being this cool thing where you could find almost everything to being the place people to use the same dozen or so apps, and to use those apps increasingly shitty desktop versions if they're on their computer. And any other sites you find with Google are more and more likely to be AI-generated bullshit listicles with well-made SEO that only exist to show ads.
Don't get me wrong, there are content creators on those dozen apps/sites who are still putting out amazing things! But since they don't control the platforms they're posting to they don't really fully own their own content. This is especially true since those platforms will of course make it as difficult as they legally can to move the content off of their services. Services that can and will change their terms of service to be increasingly shittier for their users the more of a hold on the market they get.
Then when the apps get shitty enough to not gain new users and thus eventually die, all those amazing things their users have created there either dies a slow death of obscurity, or the servers shut down and the content is gone for good.
So what can you do to fight this? You can be the change you want to see! So what should you do? Two things:
1. Set up a linktree and/or mailing list
The easiest way is to set up a Linktree account to link all your social media together (without taking up too much space in your bio). That way someone who wants to stop using a specific app/site at least know where else they can find you. But this doesn't help you all that much should your main social media suddenly shut down or bad your account. The best protection then is to use some free service to set up a newsletter/mailing list that you can plug to your followers. Then the people who want to sign up for it won't have to rely on noticing that you've stopped posting to find out your account has been banned. You don't have to use this mailing list to start sending out a periodical newsletter. It's OK to say "This is a backup mailing list that will send updates should I no longer be able to post where you usually follow me."
Bonus advice to protect yourself from losing touch with content creators you like following: Make a new bookmark folder called "Linktrees" and make a habit of bookmarking the Linktree (or equivalent) pages of people you follow. If you realize that someone has stopped posting you now have a place where you can check to see if they are still posting in other places (or under other usernames).
2. Set up your own website
This is typically not entirely free, and I'm not saying it's low effort. But if enough people do it, it will make a change to how the Internet works!
How? I promise you it's still easier than you probably think! Especially if you remember that the issue you're trying to solve here is that the web is lacking personal sites where people like you post things they burn for. That means that your site doesn't have to look good. Content is still king!
Learn some basic HTML and make a web page where you can post whatever content you want. That web page can then link to the other web pages you make. Do that and, congratulations, you've now made a website!
OK, so you've made a website that can only be loaded from your own hard drive, so maybe don't celebrate just yet. The next step is to sign up for a some web hosting service that lets you post anything that's legal for them to host. There are still free web hosts that survive by adding ads to your site, but if you can afford it I would advice you to find a cheap service that doesn't do this. If you only intend to host HTML and images so you don't need database support this still isn't all that expensive given that you're not likely to hit even the lowest bandwidth limit.
Next register a domain name. Make sure you have auto-payment set up for its renewal, and set a yearly alarm in your phone to make sure you don't lose the domain name due to forgetting about checking you e-mail at the wrong time. (Domain squatting trolls who register the domains that expire to either show phishing scams OR sell back the domain name to the original owner at an obscene markup are still sadly a thing.)
What should you use you website for?
Whatever the hell you want! If you're already a content creator I'm not even saying that you should stop posting to the apps you have followers on, but this gives you a way to post the same content to a platform that you control should something happen to your app of choice. Keep posting your photos, fanfiction or whatever content you make to the services you usually do, but now also upload them you your own website!
If you're making video you can still host if from YouTube (or Vimeo or whatever) so that you don't run into bandwidth issues. YouTube isn't likely to shut down out of nowhere, but they might start showing so many unblockable ads that you no longer want to have that be the main place your videos are hosted. But if you embed those videos on your own site and (vitally) make sure that you keep the raw video files backed up, you now have a way to change where your videos are hosted!

Unsolicited Rec: My webhost of 20 years — I owe them my soul
Hey if anyone is looking for a webhost for their websites, blogs, a shop front, public or password-protected file storage, mailing lists, or would just like to have their email in reasonable privacy where Google can't scrape it, I just noticed my old webhost ICDSoft is having a 75% off sale so your first year is $2/mo, renewing at $80/year, + (last time I checked?) $5 for domain name registration. ďżź I think they were $60 per year when I started 20 years ago, and they just keep adding more storage space and tools (eg social media backup & sync)
Their dashboard has oodles of tools for setting up various types of websites and things with acronyms somebody more techy than me would appreciate, Their online documentation and tips blog and 24/7 tech support are great and — no really, they are GOOD. I foisted my mom on them decades ago after she asked me about starting her business website, and they've been her tech support ever since.
Which is where the soul-iou comes in.
ANYWAY, ICDsoft has never let me down in 20+ years, they protect their servers from attacks so I've never been hacked or had downtime that I know of (knock wood), and they are literally the only company I trust.
Tumblr media
[Above: screencap of the top of their order page listing some features of basic account.]
This is not a paid shill. I've just been thinking about renovating my old websites and dormant blogs because of recent Tumblr posts talking about the good old days when the web wasn't consolidated, owned, sandboxed and mined by social media companies and Google.
Think of it as a community garden, where you pay a fee for your plot and do the gardening yourself, but there's a couple on-duty gardeners to keep out pests, maintain the hoses and fences, and advise you on projects or even help you set up your beds.

Messy In My Misery
[Easy reading version on Toyhou.se]
Velour didn’t sleep at all that day, or the following night either. There was no way he could, not when he had no idea what Veruco was going to do.
She had blocked him on both Twitter and Instagram, which he had expected. That meant he could not look up her account to see if she had posted anything about him, something he ordinarily wouldn’t do. Sure, he had a habit of googling his own name and keyword searching on social media to see what people were saying about him, but he would never go through someone else’s account. It made him feel like a stalker, but just thinking about what she could have been saying about him now made him sick to his stomach.
She was not online in his Discord server, either. Or perhaps, like him, she was only appearing offline. What could she be talking about to people outside of the channels designated for fans? She said that she had no one else but him which made him think those people she talked to on the server were only acquaintances, but what if…
But it was all quiet. Too quiet, as the cliche goes. And that just made Velour even more anxious.
He had gotten changed into an outfit with long sleeves to hide the bruising on his wrist. He didn’t want to think about it, but he couldn’t not think about it. He could be using his time to be more productive right now, but he knew he wouldn’t be able to concentrate on any of his fashion design projects, and the thought of trying to film a video now was nauseating. The next video he’ll have to make will be an apology video, won’t it? No doubt she’s already constructing a means to perfectly slander him, twisting the context of all his words to make him seem like he was always the bad guy-
Well, he kind of was. Good people don’t end up in situations like this, with their careers in the hands of a single whistleblower.
He should probably start drafting up the script for such a video, given how likely it is that he’ll need to post one as soon as possible. But what should he be trying to predict? Would she say that he was leading her on, and broke her heart when he turned her down? Could she find other upset and heartbroken fans he wasn’t aware of to make her statements more credible, and then he has multiple people he needs to consider in his apology? What if she outright lied?
He sat at his computer desk, an empty Word document opened up in front of him, and his head in his hands. His second monitor was automatically refreshing the ‘New’ tab of his YouTube channel’s Subreddit, and the screen suddenly flashing white whenever the page reloading stung his tired eyes. He should try and get some rest now, but he felt simultaneously exhausted and completely wired.
Bang, bang.
He almost jumped out of his skin when there was a knock on the door, and a loud yelp escaped from his mouth. Thankfully, the voice on the other side was one he was familiar with.
“Jesus, Vel, you alright in there? It’s only me, I’ve got your mail.”
Velour opened the door and was greeted by Aiolos’ amused smile. Though, that smile faded when the other blueblood saw the state of his childhood friend.
“Ok, I thought you were screaming because you were about to get caught filming something embarrassing. You look like total shit dude, what’s got your panties in a twist now?”
“Oh, no, it’s nothing.” Velour waved his hand. Aiolos was not convinced, but didn’t feel any need to press on. “Did you say you have my mail?”
“Nah, the mail delivery guy doesn’t have your mail. Hmm, gee, I wonder why else he’s here,” The other blueblood grinned, and bopped Velour on the head with a stack of letters before handing them over to him. “Of course I’ve got all your weird fanmail. One of these fucking reeks of perfume, and not a good kind.”
Fanmail. What if she had sent something? Do the postal services still check for anthrax?
Velour tried his best to smile, not wanting to make his friend worry.
“Oh! Thanks! I could have gone down there myself to collect it, but, ah… You know. I’ve been very busy, as you can probably tell.” He laughs awkwardly.
“Yeah. I can tell.” Aiolos deadpanned. He didn’t even have a witty remark to make about it, which Velour knew was an awful sign. “I don’t know what shit you’ve been up to and I don’t think I want to know, but get some sleep dude.”
“I will, don’t worry about it,” Velour smiled in a way that he hoped was reassuring, then glanced over at the letter still in Aiolos’ hand. “Oh, did you get one too?”
Aiolos held up the letter and grinned. “What, are you jealous? It’s probably just a prank, let’s be real here. My fans are too busy mailing our channel jars of peanut butter and anything that can be wrapped up to look like a dildo.”
“... I’m sorry?”
“Inside joke, don’t ask.” Aiolos laughed, then turned to head into his own apartment.
Velour decided not to.
He closed the door behind him, locked both the main lock and the deadbolt (which he normally would only lock the latter before he went to bed), double checked to make sure the door was definitely locked, then slid down against the door until he was down on the floor, sighing loudly.
He stared at the letters in his hand. True to Aiolos’ word, one of them did smell like dollar store perfume, which Velour knew would not be from Veruco. She wore a brand that smelled like wildflowers, an overpowering mixture of sweet and herbal tones that resembled if someone poured multiple teas into the same mug. A smell he cannot accurately recall, but would know experiencing the scent once again would make him feel sick. He sniffed each envelope until he found the perfumed culprit (feeling gross from the thought that he’s smelling fanmail in the first place), and then put it aside. That one is safe.
The next four letters all have return addresses on them, and none of them related to Veruco or the Miopah business. Also safe. He considers opening them up now and reading through them to see if perhaps someone has written him a nice pick-me-up. But why would they? No one knows how he feels, he hasn’t gone public about it yet. And, despite his desperation to get his side of the story out there before the other voice is heard, he doesn’t think he can. For one, it would be unfair to the girl with the broken heart, and two, he doesn’t want pity from his fans. If they worry about him, he might risk closing the gap to them too much again. And if they don’t, they may instead see his ugly and cowardly side and turn their backs.
That left the final letter in his hand. The address to his PO Box written plainly on the front, no return address on the back. The only stamp was a generic Alternia post stamp in the top right-hand corner, and no other distinguishing features that could suggest the letter’s origin.
Was that identical to the one in Aiolos’ hand?
Maybe it was, maybe it wasn’t. Is he thinking too hard? It’s only been a single night, how quickly could she prepare to write and then send letters? She was furious when he left her, and could have easily written something in a rage when she arrived home, and the postal service does prioritise highblood deliveries…
He stood back up, and grabbed the letter opener from his desk nearby. He slid it underneath the seal flap, and began carefully dislodging the adhesive. It was a technique he used to first check fanmail he had planned to open up on camera to make sure the contents were appropriate, and not to make it as obvious if he needed to do multiple takes for opening and reading the letter.
As the letter opener reached the bottom of the seal flap, it hit something metallic with a soft clink. Confused and more than a little worried, he pulled out the letter opener and slid it under the other side to peel that away first. Then, he pulled from both sides to dislodge the bottom piece of the adhesive without getting his fingers anywhere near the metallic object.
Underneath the flap was a blade that would have certainly sliced his fingers had he opened the envelope normally. Extra blades had also been stuck to the inside of the envelope, and Velour did not dare reach in to grab the letter inside.
“Oh- Oh my god.”
The envelope fell out of his shaking hands and hit the floor. He staggered backwards, hand over his mouth, until his back hit the side of the couch behind him.
Her lusus was a stonefish, he recalled her saying once. Could she have also tipped the blades with its venom? Was this only a threat, or was she genuinely attempting to kill him?
Velour had no idea what to do. The possibility of his life being in danger was becoming more likely, unless this was just to scare him into thinking that. Could this have just been a distraction? Highbloods are known to scheme, and he couldn’t put it past Veruco just because she was quiet.
He flopped over the armrest and landed on the couch cushions, staring up at the ceiling. He had to try and make amends before things grew out of hand. He had to figure out her plans without resorting to something as awful as stalking her. He had to make sure everyone else is left in the dark, so his fans don’t suspect something is wrong and start asking questions. So much to do, so little time left.
Instead, all he could do was lie motionless on the couch for hours, the exhaustion finally taking its toll and overpowering all other emotions. Except the regret he will feel later on.
…
Later that night, while performing yet another search through his social media feeds to check for signs of the news finally reaching the public, Velour happened to catch a new tweet at the top of his recommended feed.
aiolos>>>> (NEW MERCH DROP 20/1) @.BIFFSVOO_GonePostal
great news guys, the mailbox is suspended indefinitely thanks to people being fucking freaks about it. everyone put your hands together for the asshole who sent me an envelope full of razor blades, you ruined it for everyone👏👏👏

It's like he's TRYING to broadcast to the entire world how little he knows about any of the things he's doing and how he's eliminated all of the competent staff who would normally prevent this kind of thing.
Like "Twitter" is one of the most globally recognizable brands in the WORLD, and trying to achieve that type of marketing awareness is INSANELY difficult, not to mention that effective SEO for a single letter is basically impossible to achieve.
For example: think about searching for something like "Jack Black Twitter" and now think about the search for "Jack Black X" how likely are you to land on the result you're trying to find? There's a REASON companies choose names that are natural sounding but slightly obscure. Google, Bing, Yahoo, MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, TikTok etc. are names designed to effectively optimize the ability for search engines to locate and elevate the results when people are looking for them. Now think about how many other pages have "X" in them and how a search engine can effectively surface that.
The worst part of this is that this is what the ultra rich are capable of doing to an entire communications system at their whim. Imagine if this was a private postal service, but if it suddenly shut down, every letter or piece of mail that you'd ever sent with them would also vanish. Like, there will be Internet Archive backups, but that's mostly it.
Back in the early 2000s, if your admin went fucking nuts & privated the whole community, if they became mad with power and drove everything into the ground, if someone just didn't renew the domain name or the server owner didn't allow you to keep being hosted — the community could still find backups of the information and restart it somewhere else. I know this because we did exactly that in the early 2000s with the forums I've been an admin of now for almost 15 years.
Twitter can't really do that and Threads or other pop-up replacements are just solutions of other mega corporations trying to monetize upon an unstable market and reinforce their own existing ecosystem, and further gain control over more of those things in a single location that's incentivized AGAINST allowing multi-party interoperability like Reddit cutting off API access to third parties after Twitter did the same. Yes, tumblr is a refuge but for how long?
This is also why online communities moving off webforms and on to Discord gets worrying, because when THOSE communities go dark, the totality of that information up and vanishes. No Web Archive backups. Nothing. There is a worrying volatility about historic information these days, and while I know online platforms don't seem all that important sometimes, it's important to remember random documents and manuscripts are historically significant.
Conversation about preserving digital video games is getting more prominent as companies stop supporting the distribution platforms and the games just up and COMPLETELY vanish at the whims of some random rich idiot who doesn't know what the fuck they're doing, or who does know and doesn't care.
Not just that, but a lot of modern social media platforms are usually the only methods of correspondence we have with at least a few people, and there's a wealthy third party who essentially owns your ability to stay connected to them. It's kind of terrifying to watch how easy it is for someone to sabotage that out of idiocy and ignorance, but it should be more worrying to consider how much easier that would be for someone with the full intent to do so.
Capitalists & oligarchs don't care about the things they preside over, and while it's fun to point and laugh at their expense when the extension of the thing they represent is catching fire, it's important to also consider exactly what the big picture of that means for the future.
I slept in and just woke up, so here's what I've been able to figure out while sipping coffee:
Twitter has officially rebranded to X just a day or two after the move was announced.
The official branding is that a tweet is now called "an X", for which there are too many jokes to make.
The official account is still @twitter because someone else owns @X and they didn't reclaim the username first.
The logo is 𝕏 which is the Unicode character Unicode U+1D54F so the logo cannot be copyrighted and it is highly likely that it cannot be protected as a trademark.
Outside the visual logo, the trademark for the use of the name "X" in social media is held by Meta/Facebook, while the trademark for "X" in finance/commerce is owned by Microsoft.
The rebranding has been stopped in Japan as the term "X Japan" is trademarked by the band X JAPAN.
Elon had workers taking down the "Twitter" name from the side of the building. He did not have any permits to do this. The building owner called the cops who stopped the crew midway through so the sign just says "er".
He still plans to call his streaming and media hosting branch of the company as "Xvideo". Nobody tell him.
This man wants you to give him control over all of your financial information.

The most efficient way to conduct Yahoo backup
Events as ordinary as a technical fault, hardware failure or accidental email deletion, can distance us from the digital world of emails. The answer to this issue is right within vicinity if we pay enough attention to it. We just need to backup Yahoo email regularly to open up another avenue for accessing email data when situations are not in our favor. It's as easy as that. Yet, many among us remain oblivious to this need and pay the heavy price of permanent data loss when the disaster strikes. But things must change and we must realize the importance of regular Yahoo backup. This article will be an eye opener as it will elucidate the most efficient way to conduct email backup. So, read on.
Mail Backup X is a perfect remedy that cures the disease of data loss once and for all
Tumblr media
Mail Backup X is a flexible application that puts you in charge of email management by allowing a lot of customizations that help you devise the most beneficial strategy of Yahoo email backup. This tool does not impose full backups on you, but hands you the freedom of going down the route of selective backups when you can easily figure out the backup-worthy mails. But this doesn't imply that you cannot choose full backups when it is the more appropriate option. Automatic incremental backups will aid in keeping a backup storage site fully updated to the point of last received email. This tool also lets you choose an appropriate backup frequency and timing so that all gaps in data security are well taken care of.
It is also necessary to know the merits and demerits of different backup repositories, so that you can concoct a backup plan which gives rise to maximum data redundancy. Backups onto local hard drive facilitate quick data access but we must be aware of the possibility of hardware corruption. Portable backups onto an external storage media like a pen drive are also subject to same risks. Backups onto cloud storage services may sometimes be temporarily inaccessible due to server issues. Losing access to all these backup sites at the same time is almost impossible. This is the reason why experts advise us to execute 3-2-1 backup plan by situating backups on all three backup sites to augment data redundancy which will come to our rescue in the event of data loss. This can become an intricate exercise when using complexities-ridden tools, but this user friendly tool makes this a straightforward task. You just need to specify your choice of multiple backup locations while initiating a backup session and the rest will be taken care of automatically. It gets as easy as that with this user friendly Yahoo mail backup tool.
Backup Yahoo with excellent data security techniques in action playing their role to perfection
Storing backups onto multiple sites is just one side of the coin; data security is incomplete unless these backups are highly encrypted. This is where Mail Backup X comes in play by securing backups with multiple layers of encryption. Google approved login ensures that your login details are not leaked or stored anywhere. Users are given the option of password protection to augment the security of confidential files.  Stringent network security protocols also play their role excellently by warding off internet threats.
This Yahoo backup tool bubbles with features that will provide you an extra dosage of satisfaction
This tool offers a wholesome experience to users with no lacks whatsoever. Twin compatibility with Windows and Mac is a real game changer for seekers of advanced email management.
Backup Yahoo mail or for that matter emails from a wide range of email clients with ease and precision you desire.
This lightweight tool is quite unlike those resource hungry applications that mar the performance of your PC in a big way. No more system slowdowns or system crashes due to an overloaded CPU.
Once a full backup session has been completed, the difficult part is how to deal with mails that arrive after that. This tool easily solves this quandary by setting automatic incremental backups into motion so that all gaps in data security are duly plugged.
Selective backups allow you to show the exit door to the non-essential data by storing only work-critical data in backups.
This tool supports mirror backup, which is yet another dependable alternative to source hassle-free data recovery.
Multilayered encryption gives a much needed thrust to data security, saving your confidential data from being preyed by malice mongers.
3x data compression is achievable with this tool and that too without posing threats to data integrity.
PDF archiving allows you to save files in a format that facilitates a convenience-rich viewing experience and is ideal for long term data retention.
This tool speeds up the process of email search with an inbuilt smart search module.
Smart backup and resume is another well liked feature of this tool that saves an interrupted backup session from going to waste.
This Yahoo backup tool is just what you need to enjoy heightened data security
To stay productive a business organization must have uninterrupted access to emails 24/7 so that work allocation and urgent tasks do not become victims of uncalled for data loss. This tool will surround your data with multiple layers of encryption to dispel any fear of internet threats preying on your privacy or sensitive email data. Users can also contribute towards setting up an indomitable infrastructure of data security by chipping in with password protection. Google approved login is an assurance that your privacy is highly valued and nothing can go wrong in this regard.
Avail a free demo
To benefit from technological affluence at its very best, you must get this tool right away. The best way of initiating an early journey into the technologically affluent landscape of this tool is by availing its free demo www.mailbackupx.com/yahoo-backup-tool.

We see that the owner of the website is using a service to hide his/her identity. This may be because the owner does not want to get spammed. However, it also makes it difficult to identify the real owner of the website. As a result, websites hiding their identity get a slightly lower score.
Cloudflare is a worldwide distributed Content Delivery Network (CDN) platform. Cloudflare does not provide web hosting services and is primarily concerned with web performance and security. It is also a Google Cloud Platform and IBM Cloud partner and therefore shares a lot of mutual reputable customers with both companies. One of Cloudflare's most popular services is its Domain Name Service (DNS) which comes with built-in security measures such as DDoS-blocker and DNSSEC, as well as a Web Application Firewall (WAF). The platform's reputation over the years made it the go-to for a lot of credible organizations and platforms, including ScamAdviser; but like with everything else on the internet, it is still prone to misuse by scammers.
Webshop Analysis
According to Tranco this site has a low Tranco rank. This means that the number of visitors to this website is quite low. You can expect this from a small, starting or niche website. A popular website however should have a higher ranking.
The domain has only been registered recently. We recommend you to be cautious when buying or using services from a website that is very young. You may like to check our blog: "How to recognize a scam". Websites of scammers often only last for a few months before they are taken offline. An old website is no guarantee that the site is safe. Some scam sites are even years old. Most scam sites however are taken down after a few months as the number of consumer complaints rises and the hosting company is getting tired of the many emails and phone calls.

Technical Analysis
A valid SSL certificate was found. Professional companies use an SSL certificate to encrypt communication between your computer and their website. However, there are different levels of certification and scammers also install a free SSL certificate. If you have to enter your data, never do this without checking if an SSL certificate protects your information.

investiray.com Reviews
Why does investiray.com have a low trust score?
investiray.com has a low trust score. The website may be a scam. Scamadviser gave a low review to investiray.com based on several data points we were able to find online (such as reviews on other sites, phishing reports and public data such as the address of the company and server). The rating of the website seems low. Our automatic analysis may however be wrong and investiray.com may be legit and safe. It is recommended to always do your own check as well.
Positive highlights:

Negative highlights:

According to Tranco this site has a low rank
This website has received negative reviews
This website is (very) young.
This website has been reported as Suspicious by IPQS

Company Rating
We see that the owner of the website is using a service to hide his/her identity. This may be because the owner does not want to get spammed. However, it also makes it difficult to identify the real owner of the website. As a result, websites hiding their identity get a slightly lower score.
