No matter what, we did NOT go over $100.00.  I did not use my debit card to bail me out and I did not dip into the stockpile fund.  Instead, I would cut non-essentials (i.e. cereal, condiments, snacks, etc.) and find cheaper replacements (i.e. oatmeal or homemade bread for toast, etc.). How To Build Your Own Grocery Stockpile

Create a list of items your family uses on a regular basis.  Look at your pantry, in your bathrooms, and in your refrigerator/freezer.  

Use that list to create a price book.  This is simply each item's regular price.  You can little-by-little, as you go to the store(s) add prices to your book.  The only way to know for sure if an item is on sale for a really good price is to have a list of what you normally pay.  Many of you cringed reading this.  I get it.  But you only have to create this once and it will be an enormous help for you.

Begin setting $5.00 - $10.00/week (more if you can afford to) aside for a stockpile fund.  Create an envelope and add the cash every week.  Take this envelope with you anytime you go grocery shopping.

Watch for sales.  Look at store flyers, peruse blogs that publish great sales at stores in your area, and look for sales while at the grocery store.

When you find really good prices on an item your family uses, ask yourself 3 questions: 1. How many do I need/can afford to purchase?  2. Do I have space to store it?   3. Will I be able to use it before it spoils?

Don't forget to stockpile extra garden produce.  Dehydrate, can, or freeze it.

GT: At our business, we use Teamwork Projects for project management. I have heard of lawyers also using this tool for project management. One alternative that some of our clients are using, and that I have recently been impressed with, is Filevine.

We manage clients by individual project in Teamwork. Some key features that are essential to us include:

Native Time Tracking (with Harvest integration)

Task lists and tasks

GS: Case management software is critical for immigration lawyers and we use it. We’re using software called BlueDot that’s designed for immigration lawyers and includes the ability to populate the many government forms applicable to our matters, the ability to track deadlines in our cases, process steps, and reports customized for immigration, etc. With that said, we use other software products that broader-market case management products sometimes include, such as software for document and email management as well as time and billing. We are currently considering a general product (like Clio or Practice Panther) that can integrate with our immigration product.

How did you come to use the system or process identified above?

AP: When I first worked as an associate after graduating law school, I was forced to work in an environment which relied on paper files (and lots of filing cabinets) and a spreadsheet with too many columns on it that had a single line entry for each matter. It was a mess. So when I opened my own practice, I tried out multiple practice management systems to find one that integrated as much into itself as possible, so as to have everything centralized and digitized, with as many functions as possible built right in.

DC: RFP process (>5 years ago) with a cross-functional team (though mostly staff) that evaluated and selected the system.

WG: The original version of Clio was the only one that was accessible to voice dictation technology. Unfortunately, the new version is not. However, they are letting me use the old version until when—if ever—the new version becomes accessible to voice dictation technology.

GT: We’ve tried most of the major CRM and project management tools. We stopped at Teamwork because it has most of the essential features that we need. With respect to Filevine, one of their competitive advantages seems to be their reporting.

GS: As is often the case for boutique specialized practices, it’s a relatively small world and there are a limited number of software products available. The half dozen or so major immigration case management vendors always exhibit at our bar’s major annual conference and it is not hard to get the opinions of colleagues using each of the products. I also conducted a survey last spring of about 200 firms and wrote an article about this geared toward the immigration bar, so now I know a lot more about this space.

How do you track your hours and what do you use to issue bills? Are your invoices shared with your clients electronically and can your clients pay their bills through a link and a web portal? If they can, how do you then maintain records of invoices and payments?

AP: Nowadays, all of it is integrated into Clio for me, so I can put my hours (and expenses) into the matter in Clio. I then generate bills from Clio at the end of each month and electronically share them with my clients. The invoice emails have links for my clients to pay via credit/debit card, on my custom-branded LawPay portal. LawPay integrates right into Clio, so once a payment is made, the relevant record-keeping is automatically done into Clio. Before I had full practice management integration, my hours would be entered into QuickBooks, where an invoice would be generated. The PDF of the invoice would be emailed to the client, with a link to our Square portal. The client could make a payment with their credit/debit card in Square (though unlike today, they would have to manually populate multiple fields—such as invoice number and amount being paid). Once they made payment through Square, I received an email as to the payment having been made and then had to manually update QuickBooks to reflect the paid invoice…

DC:

Hours are tracked individually by attorney using a variety of methods, either paper (Daytimer) or electronic (Excel Spreadsheet) that are then entered into the practice management software daily.

We use the invoicing application that is integrated with Inprotech.

Some invoices are transmitted to clients electronically (they all use a variety of systems).

Clients cannot pay via a link and web portal.

WG: Clio does this and, yes, invoices are shared with my clients electronically and they can pay their bills through a link and a web portal. If they pay through Clio, then Clio takes care of it automatically. If they pay by check, then you have to manually do it yourself within Clio.

GT: Most of our clients are not billed hourly. However, we use Teamwork and Harvest to track time for resource allocation internally. We use Freshbooks to invoice clients electronically and most clients pay their bills online. Freshbooks handles records.

GS: We’re currently using Clockify and Quickbooks. Our firm is 25 years old and has billed on a flat fee basis for that entire time. We actually didn’t do timesheets for most of those years except in very unusual circumstances. We are now tracking time mainly to measure our costs and not for billing. We do send our clients our invoices electronically and a high percent pay us online via a web portal.

How do you maintain your documents? Do you use paper files?

AP: I have avoided using paper files for the last seven years in practice. As soon as any paper document comes into my office, it gets instantly digitized and dropped into Google Drive (which synchronizes with Clio and makes the document accessible from within the matter screens). The actual paper gets returned to the client, third party or whoever, or destroyed. My entire firm has less than 3 cubic feet (one filing cabinet drawer) of paper files, which consists solely of inked originals that I am required to maintain for one reason or another. All other paper in my office is for production, service and filing purposes only…

DC:

We have gradually shifted to electronic files only. However, this can vary by practice group and attorney. Some attorneys refuse to give up their paper files.

Document management system for electronic files is Perfect Law.

WG: As a solo, I used ShareFile. Now that I am with Kitchens New Cleghorn, I am using OneDrive. The firm uses NetDocuments. I keep paper files to a bare minimum.

GT: Teamwork has document handling capabilities. We avoid paper at all costs. Most major project management, case management, and CRM tools have some features that assist with document handling in differing degrees.

GS: We use Worldox and Symphony and are in the process of moving to a paperless system (as much as possible). We’re in the middle of a multi-year project to scan all of our files from the last 25 years. We’re about 18 months away from completion and will save a lot of money not having to utilize offsite storage and also will have the benefit of attorneys having instant access to the contents of all of our files—new and old. Also, by using Symphony, all of these files are being “OCR’d” and will be searchable.

How do you calendar appointments and log incoming communications?

AP: My incoming calls are handled by Ruby Receptionists, an outside receptionist service. My client scheduling is handled through Calendly, which allows the Ruby staff to see my available client scheduling opportunities and schedule clients when they call in. Clients can also use the link on my website to schedule themselves for an appointment with me. Calendly integrates with Google Calendar, which integrates with Clio, so all of the scheduled meetings appear in my system and on my smartphone instantly. Ruby also integrates with Clio, allowing me to always have a log of all incoming calls right on my practice management home screen.

DC:

Appointments calendared via Outlook.

Incoming communications are logged via an email that is profiled into the DMS.

WG: Mobile phone for calendar appointments. I don’t log incoming communications, especially now that I am with a firm.

GT: We use Helpscout for incoming communications. We use calendar invites and some of the team members use Calendly for calendar appointments.

Cellular phones are one of the considered essentials of today in all ages! Personally, my cellphone has been a holy grail! This is where I store my personal information, my daily reminders just like how it functions to everybody’s life, I can pay for my goods through my cellphone and it somehow dictates how my day would go because it has all these apps that I installed it with. Going back to the old days of April 3, 1973, the first cell phone was made by Motorela researcher and executive Martin Cooper. Since then and the following years, life has been made easy in terms of communicating, all thanks to you Mr. Cooper! As years go by, many developments and upgrades were made. One of the reasons why upgrades are made is to conform and address the sentiments of the consumers.

Are we humans perfect? Of course, no, so how come our phones can be perfect? The common problems that consumers experience with their phones is its poor battery life, storage space, long charging period, overheating, app crashes and issues with phone running slow.

Defining the hypothesis

The team conducted an online interview to random respondents to see their concerns and personal problems that we can generate a product to address it so. With the accumulated information, the team came up with an idea to create a product-- IC-Gen 1 5G, a solar powered phone. It is hypothesized that the product can address the needs, demands and problems of the consumers. The product will provide relief to consumers because these smartphones are portable in terms of charging, ecologically friendly, low maintenance cost, more efficient compared to the performance of the readily available phones, it has higher lifespan, it cuts off electricity bills, and importantly,  these phones are independent with external electricity sources but we made it a dual charging phone--solar and external electricity source to make it more fit to anyone who wants to go both at the same time.

Hypothesis testing and result

An online interview was done to random people and it showed several answers that we could work on however, the team decided to focus on what among these products would still be very functional and helpful in a man’s everyday life. The problem that we have chosen to focus on is the overheating and the long period of charging of mobile phones. After the online interview, the team generated a google form survey which includes questions addressing their problem. 60 respondents from different age groups responded on the survey and it showed that 56.7% of the total populace charges their phones 2-3 times a day; 61.7% responded that it takes 2-4 hours to fully charge their phones; and 81.7% said that they are interested in buying solar-powered smartphone.

Team’s options and decisions

People have been using smartphones that do not have long lasting batteries to suffice the daily activities that phones are mostly involved in. It is a hassle to go to a place and having to eye on electric sockets for charging opportunities. Today’s smartphones are handy but not as handy and hassle-free at this product that I am to introduce to you.

Why I Prefer Owning Physical Copies of Games

As of yesterday, there has a been a lot of coverages around the interwebs of Google’s latest project, Stadia; a streaming service for games that is comparable to the likes of Netflix. However, what I’m not going to do is rehash the same old article that you’ve probably read over a hundred times already. I’m not here to pass judgement on Google Stadia, especially as it’s only just been announced.

Instead, what I wanted to do was talk about the gaming industry’s move away from physical discs to digital downloads and, now, streaming of games. I wanted to talk about my opinions on this move, and why I still prefer to own physical copies of games rather than digital versions.

Potential Loss of Access

The first thing that we’re going to talk about is the fact that, with a physical copy of the game, no-one can take it away from you (except by breaking into your house and stealing it). Once you’ve paid for that game, you have it on disc for as long as you look after the disc. Naturally, there are certain types of games where you’ll still lose access to them eventually, such as MMORPGs when their servers are turned off. However, that’s the minority – for the large majority of games, we will be able to keep them and play them whenever we want.

However, when it comes to digital games, there is something that happened in the past that we all need to keep in mind. How many of you remember P.T? Judging be the playable teaser of Silent Hills’ popularity, I would guess that a lot of you do. Well, if you take P.T as a case study, it paints a potentially scary side to digital games. When you have “bought” a demo, even though it is free, you download it to the hard drive of your PS4 and added to your PSN account. From there, you should have access to it for as long as you have that PSN account. However, after the Silent Hills project was shelved, the demo was entirely removed from the PSN and you could no longer redownload it, even if you had already added it your PSN account.

The reason I want to bring this to light is that, if that could happen with a demo, it could potentially happen with a full release game as well. So, in my head, there is always going to be a concern in my head about whether the digital games that I purchase will just be removed one day. On top of this, with Google Stadia being compared to Netflix and other streaming services, it also brings is a similar issue.

There have been many shows and movies on Netflix, Amazon Prime and NowTV that my wife and I enjoyed. If the gaming industry is moving towards a similar setup, then I must admit, I have concerns that we will have incidents where we will be enjoying a game and then it will be removed from the streaming service. And when that happens, we won’t have a leg to stand on, because we won’t actually own the game.

Ownership of a physical copy of a game means that you are able to ensure you continue to have access to it whenever you want to play it. That game can’t be suddenly taken away from you.

Games As A Service

Now, this one is a bit more controversial, potentially. Gaming as a service isn’t a new thing at all. I mean, MMORPGs have been charging subscription costs for years. However, until recent years, this mentality of monetisation was largely limited to the MMORPG genre. That was fine. The issue comes with the prominence of gaming as a service in other types of games now. For example, there are a huge amount of Freemium games out there now, where you can get the game and play it for free, but to get the most out of it you need to pay a recurring fee or buy in-game “coins” of some sort.

Again, this used to be limited to the likes of Free-To-Play MMORPGs or Mobile games, but has now flooded the PC and Console market as well.

The reason why it is possibly a controversial subject is that, for some games, it is a legitimate business model. For example, MMORPGs like World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XIV use that money to help fuel development of high quality content that is added to the game (in the case of FFXIV, that includes free content every few months). So, gaming as a service can be a good thing. The issue arises when this mentality becomes the most prevelant thought in developers or publishers’ minds – when a game is built and developed purely with the intent of making it an ongoing subscription service, the gamers are the ones who lose out.

But that’s not really fixed by having physical copies of games, so you’re probably wondering why I’m even talking about it, right?

Well, it comes back to the Google Stadia again. You see, a single game that is pushed out with the sole intention of driving a subscription fee is bad (in my opinion) so an entire gaming library could be horrendous. At the moment, we don’t really know much about the games that are going to be on the Stadia. In fact, we only have a few named so far;

So, as it stands, it’s unclear how many AAA titles are going to be ported across. There is a high possibility that we’ll end up having a lot of games added to it that are lower quality games with excessively long game time – this would purely be to ensure that you keep paying your subscription fee.

I am hoping that won’t be the case and that the Stadia will offer top quality games, but the cynic in me doesn’t think that will be the case. I do, however, really want to be proven wrong. If gaming as a service can be made into a positive for both the industry and the gamers, then that would be great. It is, however, still a concern for me.

Especially when I think back over all of the games I have played across the last 25 years of gaming, and realise that my favourites were all disc-based games before the internet was really a thing. Those games offered me hundreds of hours of enjoyment, without the need to pay money for them every month…

Preservation Of Games

The third part of this little look into my head and why I prefer physical copies of games comes down to the preservation of the medium. Relatively near where I live, there is a Video Game Museum, which is amazing. On top of that, collectors such as myself and those much bigger than me are storing and protecting the games that they love. This care and storage help to preserve the creativity and brilliance of these games that would otherwise be lost to time.

Now, I know full well that digital games can be made available at any time through online stores, or the files can be stored on the cloud for safekeeping. But, let’s take a step back and look at some recent news; specifically, let’s look at a MySpace. Now, this is a bit different, yes, but think about it – 12 years ago you added photos or music files to your MySpace. They should have stayed there forever, until you decided to remove them. However, due to an error in server migration (which happens far more often than you would think), all data from those 12 years is gone. It’s lost, forever – you are never getting those photos or music files back.

Next, imagine that those files had been your games that you had lovingly been collecting on your favourite Digital Store. All of a sudden, every game you have owned and collected over the past 12 years just disappear. Oh, and it’s not just your copies of those games, but every copy of every game from the last 12 years. All of a sudden, that’s 12 years of the gaming industry that basically no longer exists.

Yes, this is an unlikely thing to happen, but when you consider the fact that MySpace lost photos and music (which take up a lot less server storage space than games), there is the possibility. On top of this, even the likes of the PlayStation Network were hacked into, and there are numerous reports of Xbox Live accounts being accessed remotely as well. Hackers are always finding new ways to access digital data and networks, becoming more and more aggressive in their actions once they have access. With the way the internet landscape is now, there is an ever growing chance that someone will one day find a way to access and format the servers that hold your games. And that’s not me trying to scaremonger.

I work in the Digital industry for my day job, and we are also having to find new ways to secure servers. The problem is, these security “holes” can only be fixed when they have been discovered and it is usually hackers who discover them.

With physical copies of games, it doesn’t actually matter if those servers are compromised. You will still be able to play the games that you love, because you have the disc version of it.

Cases On The Shelves

The last aspect of owning physical copies of games is really a personal aesthetic choice. As many of you know, my blogging office also doubles as a game room and streaming area. In this room, I have bookcases and shelves that are filled with games. They are all sorted alphabetically by platform, and look beautiful! That’s something that you just don’t get with digital copies of games.

Yes, your PSN account or Steam library may look nice with a long list of games, but it really isn’t the same. I mean, think about how amazing a room full of old books looks. It’s an outstanding sight! That’s also true for games, with their cases and box art creating wonderful collages of colour and style.

That’s completely missing if you purchase the games digitally. Instead, you have a single console in the room, with all of the games just floating in the digital cloud. You don’t get to marvel at the beauty of those CD or DVD cases on the bookshelf. Yes, it’s not exactly a big thing at all. But for me, I would much rather have a book case full of games to look at then just the one console.

Why I Prefer Owning Physical Copies of Games

As of yesterday, there has a been a lot of coverages around the interwebs of Google’s latest project, Stadia; a streaming service for games that is comparable to the likes of Netflix. However, what I’m not going to do is rehash the same old article that you’ve probably read over a hundred times already. I’m not here to pass judgement on Google Stadia, especially as it’s only just been announced.

Instead, what I wanted to do was talk about the gaming industry’s move away from physical discs to digital downloads and, now, streaming of games. I wanted to talk about my opinions on this move, and why I still prefer to own physical copies of games rather than digital versions.

Potential Loss of Access

The first thing that we’re going to talk about is the fact that, with a physical copy of the game, no-one can take it away from you (except by breaking into your house and stealing it). Once you’ve paid for that game, you have it on disc for as long as you look after the disc. Naturally, there are certain types of games where you’ll still lose access to them eventually, such as MMORPGs when their servers are turned off. However, that’s the minority – for the large majority of games, we will be able to keep them and play them whenever we want.

However, when it comes to digital games, there is something that happened in the past that we all need to keep in mind. How many of you remember P.T? Judging be the playable teaser of Silent Hills’ popularity, I would guess that a lot of you do. Well, if you take P.T as a case study, it paints a potentially scary side to digital games. When you have “bought” a demo, even though it is free, you download it to the hard drive of your PS4 and added to your PSN account. From there, you should have access to it for as long as you have that PSN account. However, after the Silent Hills project was shelved, the demo was entirely removed from the PSN and you could no longer redownload it, even if you had already added it your PSN account.

The reason I want to bring this to light is that, if that could happen with a demo, it could potentially happen with a full release game as well. So, in my head, there is always going to be a concern in my head about whether the digital games that I purchase will just be removed one day. On top of this, with Google Stadia being compared to Netflix and other streaming services, it also brings is a similar issue.

There have been many shows and movies on Netflix, Amazon Prime and NowTV that my wife and I enjoyed. However, they all had a limited lifespan of availability on their specific streaming service and are now no longer available. Google Pixel Slate Review: Less than the sum of its parts

Google Pixel Slate Review: Less than the sum of its parts - SlashGear If the Blog9T Pixelbook demonstrated Google could make a compelling laptop, the Google Pixel Slate is its attempt to do the same for tablets. Like the latest iPad Pro, it's a confident claim that what was once considered a pared-back, mobile OS can now wear Big Boy Pants and be everything you need to do "real work" on the go. In the process, though, Google finds itself bumping up against some of the same challenges that Apple did with its tablet, and the Pixel Slate doesn't always have the best answers either. Hardware and Design With its midnight blue anodized aluminum casing, curved edges, and rounded 2.5D Gorilla Glass 5 cover glass, the Pixel Slate is a handsome tablet. It's also thin, too, at just 7mm thick, though there's no flex when you hold it. The 12.3-inch "Molecular Display" is a delicious 3000 x 2000 resolution LCD panel, with bright and bold colors, though its bezels look positively thick compared to those of the latest iPad Pro.

Although its display falls in-between the iPad Pro's 11- and 12.9-inch panels, the Pixel Slate is actually heavier than both. 1.6 pounds is on the hefty side for a tablet, though it's weight is nicely balanced. Like Apple, Google has opted to ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack, which will undoubtedly continue to frustrate many. At least it gives you a second USB-C port, either of which can be used for charging, 4K display output, or data. There's a volume key and a Pixel Imprint fingerprint sensor, integrated into the power button. Press that and you can be automatically logged into Chrome OS, or authorized Google Pay transactions. Personally, I prefer how Face ID on the iPad Pro works day to day, but the Pixel Slate has the advantage with Chrome OS' multi-user support, which iOS currently lacks.

Google has a wide range of processors for the Pixel Slate, spanning Intel's Celeron through its 8th Gen Core m3, i5, and i7 chips. You can have 4GB, 8GB, or 16GB of memory, and from 32GB to 256GB of storage. As you might expect, then, the price varies significantly: $599 for the entry-level Celeron/4GB/32GB tablet, up through to $1,599 for the Core i7/16GB/256GB version. How you feel about that degree of choice - there are five configurations in the line-up - will depend on whether you see the Pixel Slate as a laptop replacement or as an iPad Pro alternative, I suspect. Certainly Google's cheapest tablet undercuts the iPad Pro significantly, though its performance won't match it. The Core i5 model, with 8GB of memory and 128GB of storage, that Google provided for review is $999, however, what you'd pay for an iPad Pro 12.9 3rd Gen with half the storage.

Whichever Pixel Slate you get, there's WiFi 802.11ac 2x2 MIMO, Bluetooth 4.2, dual front-firing speakers that sound reasonably for their size, and twin microphones. 8-megapixel cameras are front and rear. Sadly there's no cellular option for integrated LTE: Google tells me that it expects Pixel Slate owners to be happy with tethering, though I think there's nothing quite like the convenience of getting online with built-in cellular. Chrome OS A month after Apple's iPad Pro event, and the discussion around whether you can get "real work" done on a tablet - and, indeed, just what "real work" actually consists of - is still raging. The Pixel Slate wades into that discussion with Chrome OS, the ability to run Android apps, and two UIs. Some aspects of that arsenal works better than others.

It's fair to say that Chrome OS has made huge strides since its early days. With the Pixel Slate it takes another step forward, with both a desktop mode and a tablet mode. Dock Google's tablet on the Pixel Slate Keyboard and desktop mode kicks in automatically, complete with a mouse cursor and a minimized launcher bar at the bottom of the screen. Use it as a slate, though, and you get tablet mode. That expands the app launcher to occupy the desktop, with a row the apps Chrome OS predicts you're likely to want running across the top. It all looks very much like an Android phone, unsurprisingly by design.

How Chrome OS operates depends on which mode you're in, most notably when it comes to multitasking. In desktop mode, you can have resizable windows that overlap and support flexible positioning, just as you would on a macOS or Windows 10 notebook. In the tablet mode, however, you get split-screen instead, with only the ability to adjust the proportion of each app on-show. There's a new gesture to pull out a Chrome tab and automatically create a split-screen view with it. Considering multi-tasking is one of the more contentious aspects of the "can a tablet be used for real work?" argument, this twin approach by Google is a strategic one. In practice I do prefer it to SEO Blog9T how iOS does multitasking. It's hard to avoid the feeling that the iPad Pro 12.9 is squandering the display real-estate it has to play with; in contrast, being able to use the Pixel Slate - in desktop mode - as you might a regular laptop makes much more sense to me.

Similarly, Google's implementation of its Pixelbook Pen has a big advantage over the new Apple Pencil: handwriting recognition. You can write instead of using the on-screen keyboard and have that converted into text. It wouldn't be my first choice for composing a lengthy document, no, but for search terms or quick message replies it's much easier than fumbling between stylus and fingertip. The downside to Chrome OS, of course, is the app selection. Performance on the Pixel Slate was noticeably smoother than on Google's demo hardware back at the early October launch, though I did encounter a couple of crashes in my testing, but it's the apps you get to use which might present the biggest hurdle.

Google's suite of office apps shows Chrome OS at its best. Then, the line between web app and local software is most thoroughly blurred. At the other extreme, though, there are Android apps that run on Chrome OS. While in theory that gives you the wealth of the Play Store for your Chrome tablet, the reality is that the experience just isn't refined enough yet. Apps magnify in space-wasting ways, or refuse to let you resize their windows. In so many ways, Google has unlocked the hurdles that Apple has arbitrarily placed in iOS. The Pixel Slate's USB-C ports don't care about what accessories you plug in, for instance, while the Chrome you get is the desktop version, not a mobile browser. The downside is that, where the iPad Pro has limits Apple establishes in the name of creating a more elegant - if controlled - experience, the Pixel Slate's more libertarian approach means you'll inevitably run into some awkwardness or downright ugliness where the reality doesn't match the promise. Pixel Slate Keyboard Google proved with the Pixelbook that it knew how to make compelling notebook hardware. The fact, then, that it has opted to ignore some of the most-loved features of the Pixelbook for the $199 Pixel Slate Keyboard is frustrating. The so-called Hush Keys feel like change for its own sake.

The 16mm diameter circular keys have a healthy 1.2mm of travel, and they're backlit which is useful. Since the keyboard uses pogo-pins for both power and data, there's no charging. Its magnetic stand can pose the tablet at any angle, unlike the two fixed positions of the iPad Pro's Smart Keyboard. Another advantage over Apple's tablet keyboard is the trackpad. The Pixel Slate Keyboard gets a sizable 73.9 x 102.7mm 'pad, with a nicely textured glass surface and multi-touch support. It does help the Pixel Slate feel more like a proper laptop - though with a big footprint that's unwieldy and floppy on your lap - when it's docked.

In fact, it feels a little like the Pixelbook trackpad, which is why the fact that the Pixel Slate Keyboard's keys aren't the same is so frustrating. The circular buttons aren't bad, and I'd certainly rather have them over those of the iPad Pro's keyboard, but they're also not as good as the more traditionally shaped keys on the Pixelbook.

I preferred the keys of the third-party Pixel Slate keyboard Google also sent, the handiwork of Brydge. The $159.99 Brydge G-Type looks and feels far more like the 'board of the Pixelbook, albeit in a matching blue to the new tablet. Unfortunately, you then miss out on some of Google's own keyboard's niceties: the Brydge's has no pogo-pins so recharges separately via USB-C and connects to the tablet via Bluetooth. Closed, the whole assembly is thicker than a Pixelbook, too. Pixelbook Pen If you've used the Pixelbook's digital stylus then you won't be too surprised by how it performs on the Pixel Slate. In fact it's exactly the same hardware, only now available in a matching blue finish. You still pay $99, and you still don't get a place to dock or attach the Pen to either the tablet or the keyboard.

What you do get is pressure and tilt support, which makes note-taking and digital art more rewarding and natural. Hold down the side button and circle images and text, and the Google Assistant will search for related answers. Clever, though honestly it's not something I find myself using too often. I'd rather be able to reprogram the button, Apple Pencil 2 style, for secondary features. Battery Google says the 48 WHr battery in the Pixel Slate should last for up to 12 hours, though that's based on a mixture of standby, web browsing, and other use. The reality has still been impressive, though. Based on my own mixed use, primarily web browsing, some music and video playback, and some typing, 8-9 hours seems reasonable. Verdict For every device promising us the functionality of a laptop with the flexibility of a tablet, there's also a different approach to how those two identities will operate. Google's strategy with the Pixel Slate feels a lot like its mobile strategy in general. You're poised on the cutting-edge of what Chrome OS - and Android apps on Chrome OS - can do, in a way that's far less restrained than Apple's stance with iOS and the iPad Pro.

Sometimes that works out, like being able to use the Pixel Slate with a keyboard as a multi-window laptop alternative. Other times, however, you pay the price of being at the bleeding edge. Android apps still don't feel mature enough to be more than a stopgap measure in many ways, ungainly and unpredictable in a way that you can't really accuse the contents of the iPad Pro's App Store. Like with the iPad Pro, too often I ran into frustrations that the Pixel Slate threw into my path, and sent me scurrying back to my regular laptop. And the cold reality is that the App Store has more to suit Apple's tablet than the Play store has for Google's. Factor in that the Pixel Slate - with expensive and pretty much essential keyboard attached - is thicker than the Pixelbook, not to mention the annoyances of trying to perch it on my lap, and I think I'd still go for the far more affordable convertible notebook not its new tablet sibling. How To Build A Grocery Stockpile On Less Than $10.00 Per Week (and why you should)

Although Extreme Couponing may have given you an unrealistic and (perhaps) an unpalatable view of grocery stockpiling, there is a very real way and practical reason for learning to stockpile.  I've mentioned before that my husband and I paid off our consumer debt through meal planning, and per many of your requests, I plan to write a more thorough post regarding exactly how we did that soon. Grocery stockpiling is a very important step in sticking to a modest food budget.  Although we no longer have to work to pay off debt, we do live on a tight budget in order to be self-employed so we choose to continue with the same savings techniques.  Once you are able to make it habit, it really is an easy way to save quite a bit of money. All of our food budgets are going to look different as are our grocery lists and meal plans.  And that's perfectly fine!  There is no right or wrong.  The important thing is the "hows" and the "whys" of grocery stockpiling.  It's the same for us all.

What Is Grocery Stockpiling? It's simply the stocking up of items your household uses regularly when they drop to rock bottom prices. You can stock up to last you a full year, or you can stock up to last you until it goes on sale again (most items go on sale every 8-12 weeks), whichever your budget (and storage space) allows for.

You will save money!  Although it initially costs money to build, you will see savings little-by-little as your stockpile grows.  Additional benefits include that you are ready in the event of an emergency whether it be a natural disaster, snowstorm, or a financial issue. If you live where it snows heavily, have you ever been to the grocery store the day before an anticipated storm or right after the storm?  The shelves are wiped out!  You will eventually have enough to get by during these times. Have you ever had a week (or two) where finances were super tight?  Whether it be that you're out of work temporarily, or receive an unexpected bill, if you build up a stockpile you can eventually eat mostly from your pantry for a few weeks until you can afford to go shopping again. How Do I Save Money By Spending Money? Here's the basic way stockpiling works: 1. You determine what items your family regularly uses. 2. You purchase multiples of said items as they hit rock bottom pricing using your stockpile fund. 3. Each week you plan your meal plans based on what you have stockpiled. 4. You purchase any additional items that you don't have stockpiled, needed to create all of your meals. 5. You will begin spending less per week on those additional items because you'll be pulling more and more from your stockpile. Spending money to purchase multiples of items your family regularly uses when they hit rock bottom prices saves money because you never pay full price for (eventually) the majority of your food and/or toiletries. How Much Time Will This Take Each Week? There is a small weekly time investment.  Of course, like anything, the longer you do it the more routine it becomes.

Weekly you will need to pay attention to store flyers (mail or online).  

You might also look at deal blogs (to look for blogs that post deals for stores in your area google "coupon matchups" and the store's name, i.e. "coupon matchups Hannaford") both for coupon information as well as where the best deals are.

Check store websites for their coupons and/or sale information

Watch for deals while you're grocery shopping.  Stores regularly have unadvertised sales as well as discontinued items.

I Don't Have An Extra $5 or $10.00/Week, Now What? It depends..... The majority of people who tell me this really do have an extra $5.00 or $10.00 per week when we dive deeper to look.

One way to free this amount up is to replace one or two meals each week with a very inexpensive meal (i.e. beans & rice, soup, leftovers, etc.) until you can start getting a stockpile built.  

Another way is to only create meals that use inexpensive ingredients. Pay attention to store flyers to shop and meal plan around only what is on sale that week. 

You can also look at other aspects of your budget to see if you can make cuts.  Do you buy coffee out at all each week?  Do you spend any money purchasing things that aren't necessities?  Can you cut back on cable?  Are you eating out?  If so, can you cut that down or go to some place that is cheaper?

Here's how we freed up money to devote to stockpiling: 1. First, we were spending WAY too much money on groceries.  I learned to meal plan and that started to control some of our expenses.  I learned to create meal plans using cheaper meals.  For example, I would make more stews or casseroles as opposed to serving meat as a main because you don't have to use as much meat in a stew or casserole so it would now stretch over a few meals as opposed to one. 2. Once I had meal planning somewhat under my belt, I created a new food budget.  We had never budgeted what we spent on food prior (I know, it makes me sick to my stomach thinking how much money was wasted.....) and we were spending anywhere from $80.00 to $140.00 per week for two of us.  I planned a $100.00/week food budget with $10.00/week going into a stockpile fund. 3. I used cash only at the grocery store.  One envelope contained my $100.00 grocery money and one envelope contained my stockpile fund. 4. No matter what, we did NOT go over $100.00.  I did not use my debit card to bail me out and I did not dip into the stockpile fund.  Instead, I would cut non-essentials (i.e. cereal, condiments, snacks, etc.) and find cheaper replacements (i.e. oatmeal or homemade bread for toast, etc.). If, however, you are on an extremely tight budget and you are truly down to very simple and inexpensive meals each week where there is absolutely no way to cut it any further then you may have to wait until your budget allows.  If you are paying off debt, maybe once that is paid off you can use $5.00 of it per week toward stockpiling.  Maybe you're up for an annual increase?  Can you devote $5.00 toward stockpiling from that? I only purchased 5 of these marinara (our favorite) when they went on sale because that's all we needed.  We'll be making homemade marinara in the next month to last us into next year.

How To Build Your Own Grocery Stockpile

Create a list of items your family uses on a regular basis.  Look at your pantry, in your bathrooms, and in your refrigerator/freezer.  

Use that list to create a price book.  This is simply each item's regular price.  You can little-by-little, as you go to the store(s) add prices to your book.  The only way to know for sure if an item is on sale for a really good price is to have a list of what you normally pay.  Many of you cringed reading this.  I get it.  But you only have to create this once and it will be an enormous help for you.

Begin setting $5.00 - $10.00/week (more if you can afford to) aside for a stockpile fund.  Create an envelope and add the cash every week.  Take this envelope with you anytime you go grocery shopping.

Watch for sales.  Look at store flyers, peruse blogs that publish great sales at stores in your area, and look for sales while at the grocery store.

When you find really good prices on an item your family uses, ask yourself 3 questions: 1. How many do I need/can afford to purchase?  2. Do I have space to store it?   3. Will I be able to use it before it spoils?

Don't forget to stockpile extra garden produce.  Dehydrate, can, or freeze it.

Start creating your meal plans to incorporate your growing stockpile.

Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury 25/50. $100 deductible on comprehensive for bike(again i ran multiple quotes, and changing the deductible amount on comprehensive only saves a few bucks). $500 deductible for collision(this deductible amount changes your rate incredibly). No other coverage. Got quoted $285...seems kinda cheap to me considering im so young? Not complaining that i save money....just wondering if this sounds normal? Hello, I am 17 and live in the UK. I am learning to drive and hope to pass my test soon. I am looking to get a car when I pass my test. I do like larger cars like SUV's and pickups and compact crossovers but that is not to say that I do not like smaller cars. The problem is the fact that insurance cost a hell of a lot, ridiculous costs. There are many cars that I like but I would like a car that does not look to bad and that has good insurance for teens. Hello all, i'm looking for car insurance on gocompare.com site and if i'm taking the insurance on my own name, the price comes up at 1,200 for a 1995 Ford Fiesta LX 1.2. I am 20 years old, male and held the licence for 1 year (1 year and 6 months to be exact) and have 0 NCB. Now, here is where the 'cheap' part comes in. The 1,200 was ON me as a prosper and owner of the car. If i put my step dad as first driver (main) and me as an additional driver (second) it comes up as 1,500 for insurance. How is that possible? He has 6 years no claims and held the licence for over 20 years. Never made a claim or had accident. Can I Sue My Car Insurance Company For Fraud?

I bought insurance for my truck. after 3 months of paying my agent i noticed that my financing bank had added 1300 dollars to my loan as a collateral insurance because they did not have proof of my insurance. I went back to my agent and they explained that they forgot to send the payment for 3 months to the main insurance company and that is why it appeared to my bank that I did not have insurance. My insurance agent told me they were gonna do a re-installment and that they were going to give me proof that i had insurance for those 3 months so i could take it to my bank so they could remove the 1300 from the loan. It's been about 10 months and my insurance agent has not given me any proof of my policy so the bank is still charging me for those 3 months. (about 400 per month since im 20). my agent does not want to refund the money for those 3 months, and they do not want to give me a proof of policy. I do have proof of paying them for those 3 months since I payed with a check that they cashed. I want them to give me proof of insurance for those 3 months or to pay 1300 to my loan because they are charging it due to their fault since they forgot to send my payment. Can I do a civil law suit for those 1300. I have proof of my payment for those 3 months. I also have my policy number but it says it's cancelled due to non payment so bank will not accept that as insurance. right after those 3 months I opened a new policy with them and ive had it for 8 months and ive always payed on time. I recently noticed that when they opened the new policy they inputed my date of birth as if i was 40 years old instead of 20. I do not know if they did a mistake or if they did that on purpose to give me a better price. The thing is that all these 8 months I've been paying i was actually never covered since my date of birth was way wrong. Only my name was correct but I talked directly to the insurance and not my agent and they explained to me that if i would have crashed it wouldnt have covered me since they do not have the correct date of birth. I just fixed that directly with the agent and now they have the correct date of birth so the insurance price went up since im only 20. I dont mind about that. I just think it's unfair that i paid for almost a year and that i was actually never covered because they did a mistake on my information. Plus they caused the bank to charge me.. So i just feel like if all this has been a big scam since i paid so much and did not have insurance. Can I sue them to get my money back or at least pay the bank what the bank is charging me for not having insurance.. like i said i have all the recepits of all payments ive done and i also have a copy of the policy where my information is not accurate and how i was paying without being covered. They could not have made a mistake because I do not look like if im 40 years old. besides they obtained a copy of my drivers license where it clearly says my date of birth.
