IT'S THE GOOD PRESS STAFF PICKED BEST OF 2013 END OF THE YEAR LIST TIME!
It's that time of year, yes, an annual occurence, where we think back into the depths of our working memories and pick ten of our favourite books, zines and other things that have come through the shop this last year. That's not to say that all of the titles are exclusively '2013', it's just that this is the year in which GP took these books into our bosoms and found them new homes. In no particular order, we'll be posting a pick from each of us (Matt, Jess & Nick) every working day until we've run out of picks. Here is the first of those things...

Which Way Is Up #2 - Jeffrey Kriksciun (Self Published)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A prolific zine maker and all around good dude from the USA via Stockholm, Jeffrey is one of my favorite artists around right now. He’s got 8 different titles in the shop at the moment so it’s tough to choose just one. But ‘Which Way...’ sticks out for me for it’s perfect blend of images, doodles, comics, and maybe best of all, a spread where Jeffrey draws out stick n poke ideas. Always funny, always different and immediate yet well considered, you got to check this guy out. He is also co editor of the forever great Free Spirit News and has a show coming up at Nationale in Portland, OR.
-NICK * Sculptures - Linus Bill and Adrien Horni (Bronze Age Editions)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sculptures is essentially a delux over sized zine. Risographed throughout, staple bound, card stock cover. Doesn't sound that delux right? Think again. This is HUGE. Its A3 tall, and the images stand like monuments on the page. Linus Bill and Adrien Horni do it again. Another reason this is in my top ten is that it has black staples. Anything with a coloured staple wins.

The History Of A Favour (Please Don't Mention It) - Michael Kasparis
Tumblr media
Michael Kasparis runs a record label called Night School records, over the last few years he's put out records, tapes and CDs by some really amazing bands like Golden Grrls, Group Rhoda, Divorce, Molly Nillson, Space Lady, Terror Bird and more, and more. Some of whom are close to our hearts. Once in a while he asks Matt to help with laying out artwork to print. Sometimes the record manufacturers supply insanely weird templates for printing, strangely scaled, odd shapes and with confusing instructions. It's been Matt's job on a few occasions to work these complexities out, it's not a big deal, it's something he can do, a skill like making pancakes or plaiting hair, some people have it and some people don't. Some time in the past, he assisted in laying out the Golden Grrrls artwork, which I remember being particularly complex, not that it was a problem. Later, we asked Michael to contribute to the 'History Of' exhibition, in which people were asked to document a history of some kind through sound, and so Michael, who also makes music under the moniker Apostille, decided to have Matthew relay some of the e-mail communication between them, whilst Michael would sing some of his end and create the backing music from samples of the Golden Grrrls recordings, from those recordings, a set of songs were made in the Apostille style (we're big fans of his music, too). Fittingly, Matthew made the artwork for the tape too, in the style of a long string of a g-mail conversation. It's sweet, cute, honest and funny. I like it a lot.
