Like on #Instagram #video: https://ift.tt/2uSOIr0 | Posted @withregram โ€ข @goodoldmovies All the color in the world and ROMY SCHNEIDER! The story of Henri Georges Clouzotโ€™s unfinished movie Lโ€™enfer (Inferno), 1964โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€” In 1964, Clouzot set out to direct the story of a husband, played by Serge Reggiani, who suffers bouts of paranoid jealousy over his new bride, played by the twenty-six-year-old Romy Schneider. Hollywood investors promised Clouzot an unlimited budget, which he spent experimenting with months of camera tests. The shoot began in July at the ideal location, a hotel in the south of France on a picturesque lakeโ€ฆthat was due to be drained for a hydroelectric project. That was just one problem facing the production, the gravest of all being Clouzotโ€™s inability to discern a way forward. Days and weeks were spent shooting the same scenes over and over, rarely to the directorโ€™s satisfaction. Relations between Clouzot and Reggiani grew testy and eventually broke down completely, with illness being the official reason for the actorโ€™s departure; Jean-Louis Trintignant arrived as a possible replacement. These difficulties no doubt contributed to the heart attack that Clouzot suffered on set, though the fact that he was shooting a lesbian love scene between Schneider and co-star Dany Carel at the time is yet another stranger-than-fiction element in the tale. Though the remaining cast and crew stayed on for several more days while awaiting news of the directorโ€™s health, Lโ€™enfer would be abandoned only three weeks into a planned 18-week shoot. โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€” #oldhollywood #vintage #classichollywood #legend #1950s #moviestar #hollywoodstar #hollywoodgreats #60s #1960s #silverscreen #goldenage #goldenageofhollywood #henrigeorgesclouzot #romyschneider #sergereggiani #lenfer #auteur #director #frenchfilm #frenchcinema #artcinema #color #actress #goodoldmovies #video

#RIP ใƒปใƒปใƒป Bye bye Little Richard! ๐Ÿ–ค some timeless energy... #Repost @goodoldmovies โ€ข โ€ข โ€ข โ€ข โ€ข โ€ข Itโ€™s time for Nat King Cole singing โ€œUnforgettableโ€! , 1963 โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”- First African-American to have his own TV show - The Nat King Cole Show .During the first season his show, The Nat King Cole Show (1956) was on the air, it had no sponsor, being run by NBC on a sustaining (network-sponsored) basis. The highly rated show had top-of-the-line production values, music by Nelson Riddle's orchestra, top-name guest stars and the personal endorsement of NBC chairman David Sarnoff (who ordered his network executives, "Find his show sponsors or heads will roll!"). Many of Cole's friends in the industry, such as Frank Sinatra, Harry Belafonte and Sammy Davis Jr., out of respect for his talents and what he was trying to do, appeared for minimum salary, and often no salary at all. Bob Henry (The Andy Williams Show (1962), Flip (1970)) wrote, produced and directed. At the end of the season, even though no national sponsors could be found - many companies did not want to upset their customers in the South, who did not want to see blacks on television - NBC expressed its willingness to keep the show going on a sustaining basis. It was Nat who pulled the plug, remarking bitterly, "I guess Madison Avenue is afraid of the dark."

#Repost @goodoldmovies ใƒปใƒปใƒป 49 year old Josephine Baker rocking the stage with โ€œVoilร  Parisโ€, 1955 ( thanks to @anthonyberarco )โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”- Josephine Baker was born Freda Josephine McDonald in 1906 in St. Louis, Missouri. Thereโ€™s actually quite a bit of mystery surrounding her birth and the identity of her father. Officially, her father was a drummer named Eddie Carson. But, Bakerโ€™s mother gave birth in an almost exclusively white hospital in St. Louis. She was also allowed to stay in the hospital for several days after the birth. In the early 20th century, the United States was extremely segregated, and St. Louis was no exception. If Bakerโ€™s mother gained entry into the hospital and was allowed to stay for so long after giving birth, it was likely because a white man (assumedly Bakerโ€™s real father) was able to pull some strings. This theory was never proved, but it make a lot of sense! The segregation in the United States is what led Baker to France. She had already moved from St. Louis to Harlem, New York, where she found greater acceptance, but it was hard to work as a black entertainer in the early 20th century. In 1925, she moved to Paris and began working. She was a hit, and was instantly loved by the Parisian public! โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”- ๐Ÿ˜ŽFollow @goodoldmovies for better stuff! ๐Ÿ‘ˆ๐Ÿป โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”-#oldhollywood #vintage #classichollywood #legend #1950s #moviestar #hollywoodstar #hollywoodgreats #silverscreen #goldenage #goldenageofhollywood #earthakitt #dancer #1950s #60s #singer #icon #legend #goodoldmovies #josephinebaker #voilaparis (at Amalgamated Costume and Design Studio) https://www.instagram.com/p/B8UvFpknkgn/?igshid=dy9mlzgi6w9r
