Plant of the Day
Saturday 3 December 2022
The Old Dairy Café, Goodnestone Park, Kent, had a great display of Capsicum annuum 'Spike' (chilli pepper). This cultivar produces masses of thin, sharply-pointed and elongated fruit which change from green to red. The plants grow well in pots. Beware the fruit have a heat level of approximately 100,000 Scoville Heat Units (considered very hot).

we are so excited to share our canon list, which is our nobility structure here on born for this, with all of you!! we’d just like to tell you the rules regarding our canons prior to you seeing any of them, so please pay attention to the bullets below prior to reserving.
we will be more selective on these characters than any others, due to their status and ranking.
we only allow canon royalty of any type on site.
we don't allow people to play characters related to one another, and we only allow a maximum of two canons per person - and only one reserve at a time. (this does include our site buzz, but your canon reserve slot (1) is separate from the face claim reserve slots (3) and you can have a maximum of four reserves (1 canon, 3 face claims) by the time reserves are done)
any major side plot regarding our canons (such as bastard children, major affairs, darker interests, etc) needs to be addressed with staff prior to creation.
that being said, we hope you enjoy these!! we’ve put a good deal of work into them, and we’re very excited to see them all on site.

Kent’s 10 Best Corporate Venues
By J Nehra
Events Manager at Special Events UK
In Kent we are lucky enough to have a varied choice of venues from historic castles, country pubs, theatres and conference spaces. If you are stuck for a cool meeting space or an event for 500, the choice can be overwhelming. Here is my pick for the best of these by area
(image: Orchard Theatre)
North Kent
Maidstone Studios, Maidstone
The Maidstone Studios is a versatile space where they record TV shows ‘Later with Jools Holland and ‘Take me out’. Just 40 minutes from London by car/ train, Close to M20 and M2.
Best For…
Small Events - unique events catered for in the 50’s style ‘Diner’ or a high spec ‘Viewing room’ for private screenings and product launches to impress your clients.
The ‘Studio’ Up to 2400 people for conferences and festivals and large company parties.
The Business Terrace, Maidstone
With a central location and a variety of rooms, the business terrace offer functional spaces and hot desk hire at a very reasonable price. Prices for a boardroom for 22 people starts at £150 per day.
Best for…
Small meeting requirements on a small budget. Rooms are professional and well equipped and can be booked by the hour.
Mu Mu’s, Maidstone
A decadent venue with various rooms available for hire. There is also a restaurant and cabaret to wow your clients. I love sampling the cocktails here and the location is within easy access of the train station.
Best for…
Informal drinks, Client or staff parties
The Orchard Theatre, Dartford
If it is state of the art sound and lighting you need then The Orchard is a pretty good bet. With 956 seats and wheelchair accessibility, they can cater for any large-scale event and conference. They are good transport links and parking close by.
Best for…
Conferences and training events. Raised comfortable seating with excellent sound but as it is modern it doesn’t have the historical features that similar venues have.
(image: Goodnestone)
(image: St Gregory’s)
Mid Kent
Canterbury Christ Church, Canterbury
Offering an impressive variety of historical and modern venues across 3 locations, there is something here for everyone My pick is St Gregory’s Centre for Music. It is rare to find a building with character with all the technical spec of a modern space with raised setting too.
Best for…
Good all-rounder. However, on-site accommodation is in the student halls which isn’t suitable for clients. Canterbury is spoilt for choice for other hotels.
Bewl Water, Tunbridge Wells
Situated on the largest stretch of open water in the SE, The Boat House has wonderful views to welcome guests. They can seat 100 and offer a variety of watersports for team building days. They are owned by another of my favourite venues in the area One Warwick Park.
Best for… Staff days out and team building
Hotel Du Vin, Tunbridge Wells
If you want to inspire your clients, this is the place to go. A grade II listed building that was once the holiday home for Queen Victoria. Meeting rooms of various sizes all over-looking wonderful gardens
Best for…
High end client meetings, product launches and dinner receptions.
(image: Pines Calyx)
South Kent
Goodnestone
An amazing beautiful stately home close to Sandwich, to which Jane Austen was a regular visitor and is the inspiration behind ‘Pride and Prejudice. You can hire the whole house including an overnight stay or hire one of their rooms just for the day. To channel your inner Mr. Darcy, they offer activities archery, riding and clay pigeon shooting.
Unlike most historical houses they have projectors and sound system in the ‘Dining room’ as part of the package.
Best for…
Team building and staff events to make the most of the 15 acres of grounds. As you can imagine it doesn’t come cheap but they offer mid-week and off–peak reductions.
Astor Community Theatre, Deal
If you are looking for a venue full of character with a local feel, this is it. With flexible seating arrangements, you can make it feel full with only 50 people. Venue hire prices are very reasonable and with High-speed train links plus a seaside location, Deal is a wonderful place for a day trip.
Best for…
Creative presentations, AGM’s and away days.
Pines Calyx, Dover
Looking to demonstrate your CSR credentials? then this might be right up your street. With all profits going to support their outdoor learning charity, this venue has been carefully designed to reduce its carbon footprint with drinking water from their very own spring. With seating for 80, catering and ample parking it’s a fantastic change from your sterile office space.
Best for…
Away days, small conferences, training and receptions

“PRIDE AND PREJUDICE” Setting
Many people have assumed that Jane Austen’s 1813 novel, “Pride and Prejudice” was set during the early Regency period. As it turned out, this is not true.
According to Wikipedia:
“Austen began writing the novel after staying at Goodnestone Park in Kent with her brother Edward and his wife in 1796.[23] It was originally titled First Impressions, and was written between October 1796 and August 1797.”
The website also included:
“The militia were mobilised after the French declaration of war on Britain in February 1793, and there was initially a lack of barracks for all the militia regiments, requiring the militia to set up huge camps in the countryside, which the novel refers to several times.[26] The Brighton camp for which the militia regiment leaves for in May after spending the winter in Meryton was opened in August 1793, and the barracks for all the regiments of the militia were completed by 1796, placing the events of the novel between 1793-95.”
Austen had made revisions of the novel between 1811 and 1812, before it was finally published in 1813. This means that Joe Wright’s 2005 film adaptation of novel was correctly set in the 1790s. It also means that P.D. James ‘ novel, “Death Comes to Pemberley”, which is a sequel, and its 2013 television adaptation was correctly set in the decade between 1800 and 1809.
