Like so many of you, I was struck by reading everyone’s Mournful Monday posts - not just by the way so many of us are struggling in so many different ways, but by the kindness and grace that accompanied the reflection and responses to everyone else; the notes to encourage us to keep going, to remind us why we write, that what we say and do matters to others, that we matter.

So this good vibes Tuesday (it is Wednesday for me, as always, I live in the future), the thing that makes me happy about fandom today is this fandom - Schitt’s Creek fandom specifically, aka you.

I know that there have been issues within the fandom from time to time: across platforms, in the form of anons trying to cause Drama™, due personal conflicts etc. No fandom is ever completely drama free. But for the most part? This fandom is a safe space. It’s a fandom where I’ve made life long friends, a place that helped me to rediscover a creative side to myself that had been lost for 20-odd years (yes, I am that old), a place that led me to find other fandoms and friends whom I adore and could not be without. 

The thing about this fandom though, the thing that is noticeable to those outside it, the thing that is commented on, is that it really is a community based in kindness.

Our beautiful show ended years ago and yet we are still here with fandom surveys, incredibly well organised writing events, weekly drabbles to keep us inspired, photos of the day and polls and ask games. There are events to encourage people to read older, or lesser known fics and to leave comments for authors. We are gifted with amazing infographics, fun stickers and fan art and gif sets. And, occasionally, we follow each other into new fandoms too.

There is SO MUCH incredible writing produced in this fandom and the way that writers are embraced and encouraged because fandom is a community and not a competition is truly heartwarming.

Maybe this shouldn’t be a surprise, not when we’re here for the love of a show that is rooted in showing the importance of love and kindness, not when Dan Levy’s message is to love unconditionally and out loud, that kindness always wins. 

So thank you, all of you, for making this fandom what it is 💖

Yesterday I was tagged by @trickiwooao3, @flowertrigger and @noahreids in a post called Mournful Monday. And I've also seen in my dash that same post by @chelle-68, @ramonaflow, @jamilas-pen, @smallumbrella369, @lizzie-bennetdarcy, @rosedavid, @stereopticons, @dinnfameron, @blackandwhiteandrose, @rmd-writes, @jesuisici33, @apothecarose, @hippolotamus, @mammameesh, @mostlyinthemorning and @carolrain (sorry if I missed your name, I've been scrolling through my dash for a long time, but if you're a writer, even if I haven't tagged you, this post is for you. And also, @obsessedwithdavrick tagged me for another game, but this includes you, too)

So my Good Vibes Tuesday go to all the writers mentioned above, and the ones I missed (sorry again) because the general vibe I got from all your posts was that you were all suffering from imposter syndrome, writer's block, burnout, lack of inspiration, lack of free time, lack of motivation, etc, etc.

You are all very talented and what you do for this fandom (and others) matters, and I assure you, you are all very appreciated.

All of that sucks, I've gone through it many, many times and I've thought I'd never write again, but you'll get back to it, I promise. And you're not wasting your time if you want to be writing but can't right now, you're just a person being way too hard on yourself.

Please give yourselves a break, you deserve it and thanks for all you've done and continue to do for this fandom 💖😘

I’ve been reading 5+1 Things fics (for Schitt’s Creek) and I think all of you who have written them are so creative and fun. I love the various ways the format and subjects are explained. Here are just a few of my favorite “thesis statements”:

Or One haunted bed and breakfast that wasn't and five perfectly normal places to stay that were.

Five times Ruth comes in to ask for a book from Stevie, and one time she brings Stevie one of her own.

Six of Patrick's first times - or, five times Patrick explores his identity, and one time he ends up exactly where he's meant to be.

Or 5 ways the robbery could have gone down differently and 1 way that it didn’t.

Or five times Johnny wasn't sure about Patrick and one time he was.

What makes me happy about fandom is that it is so much more than "just fandom." Certainly it is a place to yell and scream with other unhinged like minded people.

It is also a safe haven to reread a comfort fic on a bad day. A place to learn new skills and grow your creativity. It's finding a particularly hilarious, heartbreaking or mind-blowing creation and shoving it at all your fandom besties. Fandom is a way to torture your poor blorbos (again) as a way to process grief, fear, anxiety, sadness and any other number of scary (and amazing!) emotions.

Not adding anything new here, but it is Fandom Friends. Encouraging messages when you need that final push to finish something. Hi, I had this crazy stupid idea today and wrote it while I should have been working. Will you beta it for me? Exchanging birthday and holiday cards. I'm sorry yesterday sucked. Hopefully today is better. Tag games! Have a safe trip and let me know when you get there. The absolute amazement that I may not know your real name or where you're from, but I know that your favorite color is royal blue, you adore bats, love to crochet, wanted to run a seal sanctuary when you grew up, love soup as much as life itself, or nerd out on spreadsheets. What a time to be alive, besties.

I am grateful for @mostlyinthemorning 's Random Pics of Noah posts! I have found so many new to me photos that I'm not sure I would have seen otherwise, and I love the daily polls! It's like a little peek into what the fandom likes, and I love it. I can't believe we are already 86 (?!) days in.

And not to get all sappy, but I am continuously grateful for all of the pocket friends I've gained by being in the fandom. My life is so much more full because of all of you, and I am so grateful that I can even have these friendships, even when we are miles and oceans apart ❤️

I don't even know where to begin. I love this fandom so much! I have made some amazing friends, I have gotten back my love of writing that I thought was long gone and have been encouraged and grown along the way thanks to this amazing fandom full of people who just love these characters, the stories, and each other so fully.

As for something or someone specific? I'd like to shout out a couple of my biggest cheerleaders and friends who I can always depend on whether it be listening to me complain, helping brainstorm, beta'ing, whatever, while also being amazing writers that I feel so privileged to not only know but consider my friends @treluna4 and @statueinthestone ❤️❤️❤️

I just wanted to say how amazing it has been to see such an outpouring of support and understanding for each other! It’s truly beautiful to see and be part of such a wonderful community. ❤️

Today, I wanted to focus on celebrating the little wins for all of us. Maybe you didn’t do everything you wanted to, but think about all the things you did get done! An accomplishment is an accomplishment. It doesn’t have to be groundbreaking. If you wrote a single sentence on your wip, that’s still something to be proud of. I know it’s so hard not to hold yourself to super high standards but try to focus on being kind to not only each other but also yourself.

It’s not really Tuesday anymore, but I’m sending everyone the best vibes for the rest of the week!!

First on my list is the Tarlos wedding which is TODAY (tomorrow for me, but timezones). I am very excited and a little bit scared for what’s coming for us but at the end of the day Tarlos are getting married and I’m so ready to be not at all normal about it!

The other fandom thing that’s giving me joy atm - people from one of my fandoms falling into another: a new friend who has very much fallen into LS fandom no matter how hard she denies it (not tagging you but you know who you are), comments from SC mutuals on my fics for other fandoms, @three-drink-amy writing for LS fandom now after being one of my fave RWRB writers long before we ever spoke to each other
