I feel the need to periodically remind people that Idiocracy is a eugenics movie.
One of the things that eugenicists believe is that it is bad for society when the “wrong people” breed.
The entire premise of the movie is that “stupid people” kept having kids while “smart people” didn’t have kids, and it ruined society because stupid genes propagated while smart genes died out. This is eugenics propaganda.
I know people will read this and their response will be “actually it’s satire” but the movie isn’t satirizing eugenics. It’s satirizing anti-intellectualism, and consumerism, and it proposes eugenics as a solution.
When eugenics was first conceived, it was used as a way to justify inequality. The idea was that people who held privilege were able to do so because they were smarter and genetically superior to lazy and stupid people who don’t have privilege. Obviously this is bad and wrong, but it is also the core lesson of Idiocracy.
The movie literally ends with the main character becoming president and having “the smartest children in the world.” Because he and his wife have smarter genes than everyone else. The proposed solution for the things that Idiocracy is satirizing is for the smart people to have children that can be in charge of the world.
I know it’s fun to use this movie to dunk on anti-intellectualism and the MAGA movement, but we need to stop. When you quote and reference this movie you are spreading eugenics propaganda.
#remember yall#eugenics is bad#and anything that says a certain type of person shouldn’t have kids is probably eugenics#even if they don’t realize it#so let’s stop holding this movie up as some great prophetic work#because it’s not#also good lord they say the r word a lot in that movie#and it’s super gross#ugh I hate this movie

Can we PLEASE talk about the detail in the movie about how Snow’s dad died in the woods around District 12, because it’s making me insane. I think it was Dr Gaul who said something like he’s “lost in the trees” and I’m absolutely losing my mind over the layers of influence that moment in the forest had on Coryo.
Crassus Snow was lost in the woods of District 12 and was found again within his son. Because it was that moment of finding the guns and going after Lucy Gray that turned Coryo into his father. Where he rejected his mother’s goodness and the life he could’ve had with Lucy Gray and chose to carry out the legacy his father started with the hunger games. Snow lands on top.
#I’m foaming at the mouth good god#I mean!!!!#a great addition by the movie#the hunger games#the ballad of songbirds and snakes#tbosas#coriolanus snow#lucy gray baird#katniss Everdeen#thg

Now that Ghibli's new movie is coming out soon, I've been thinking about anime films and wanna talk about my favorite animated movie ever, Tokyo Godfathers.
TG is a 2003 tragicomedy by Satoshi Kon, following three unhoused people––an alcoholic, a runaway girl, an a trans woman––who find a baby in a dumpster and set off across Tokyo to reunite her with her parents.
If you like the sound of that, go watch it because the rest of this post is spoilers and I have FEELINGS about this movie.
URGHH, the fact that only two moments of true kindness, generosity, and care given to the three protagonists without any expectation of reciprocity are given by a Latin-American immigrant couple and a drag club full of queens and trans women. The fact that, despite her loud and dramatic personality, Hana is the glue that holds the team together and the heart of the whole movie. The fact that this movie pulls no punches at showing the violence and inhumanity committed by "civilized Japanese society" against the unhoused. The fact that Miyuki craves to be loved by her parents and ends up seeing Hana as her true mother. The fact that Miyuki starts off accidentally using transphobic language against Hana, but slowly begins calling her "Miss Hana" out of respect. The fact that, according to Kon, Hana's role in the story is as a mythological trickster god and "disturb the morality and order of society, but also play a role in revitalizing culture." The fact that Hana so desperately wants to be part of a true family, yet is willing to sacrifice her found family so they can be with their own, and is rewarded for her good deeds in the end by becoming a godmother. The fact that, throughout the movie, wind and light have been used to signify the presence of god's hand/influence (this movie's about nondenominational faith––faith in yourself, faith in others, faith in a higher power. Lots of religious are referenced, such as Buddhism/Hinduism, Christianity, and Shintoism), and in the climax of the film, as Hana jumps off a building to save a baby that isn't hers, a gust of wind and a shower of light save her from death. The fact that god saves a trans woman's life because she proved herself a mother, and that shit makes me CRY.
#ramblings#long post#not art#personal#it's the ultimate found family movie#not without its problems. i really dont like its depiction of mental health#for a movie that does an otherwise great job spotlighting the unhoused crisis in japan and its society's oppressive distain towards women#and queer people. it really drops the ball on depicting one of the biggest contributors to the crisis#but otherwise this movie is so fucking full of love and kindness and second chances and how fucking good queer folks and poc are#it blows my mind that this film came out in 2003 and the main protagonist is a trans woman who's just the fucking best#the recent gkids dub is REALLY good by the way! they got shakina nayfack; a trans va; to voice Hana!#the dub made great strides to undo a lot of the original misgendering and mistranslations#also its a christmas movie#also the ost was done by the band that did earthbound's ost

Really fucked up that, when they’re young, Patrick and Art are SO tactile with each other, so comfortable sharing the same space. Art lets Patrick touch him and move him and physically overwhelm him and easily acquiesces to it, if not outright enjoys it.
Then in the present, they’ve been so far out of each other’s orbit for so long, held such animosity that when they have their moment alone in the sauna, Art physically recoils from Patrick’s close proximity! It’s so painful to watch because even as Patrick’s goading him, it’s so obvious he wants to be able to get back into Art’s space. But Art has erected all these walls around himself, he refuses to give Patrick an inch or even admit to missing how close they used to be!
AND THEN we see Art and Tashi later and he wants her to hold him, to be gentle with him, and just TOUCH him. Like, he does miss that kind of close physical contact! He either doesn’t know how to ask for it or is uncomfortable being that openly vulnerable. Worth noting that he pretty much always defers to Tashi in regard to initiating physical intimacy (with their first kiss, though he does state his desire, SHE has to be the one to make the first move). And it seems pretty obvious that Tashi herself isn’t comfortable providing that intimacy, whereas Patrick actively seeks to provide it (the hug/forehead kiss after their win together in the early years, dragging the stool closer to him).
Art has tried very hard to act like he doesn’t need physical affection and even though his discipline and devotion to Tashi has made him a stronger tennis player, it’s made him a hollow person, which, in turn, has kept him from becoming a GREAT tennis player.
All of this, of course, is why the ending hits so damn hard.
#challengers#challengers spoilers#art donaldson#unfortunately i have once again zeroed in on the most repressed character and made them my favorite#lol @ all the people saying he’s a manipulative snake: that’s part of what makes him great!#i think a fair amount of that manipulation or attempts at it come from a fear of loss and being alone#if he has to lose one to keep the other he’ll do it because it’s better than being left behind#hoo boy yet another character trait my fucked up faves have in common 😬#let’s not even get into how tashi AND patrick are trying to do right by him#tashi by making it so he can retire with a career to be proud of#patrick (who was pissed on art’s behalf wrt throwing the match) by laying all his cards on the table (court)#and giving art what he needed to play a great fucking game#there’s a whole other post to be written about how tashi and patrick handle art in similar ways#specifically that he submits to them so easily they take charge of him manipulate him the ways they want#good lord i need to see this movie again#or not might not be conducive to keeping my brain from melting out my ears lol

something about how Lorraine Baines McFly raised her son to be someone that her younger self would have felt safe around. Especially since she was mistreated and harassed near-constantly by Biff. She raised her son to be kind and emotional and unafraid to stand up against bullies. No wonder she fell for him in the past.
#“Eww she fell in love with her son”#No she fell for someone who literally is the antithesis of any other guy she knows#And that’s by design#Also#its not like she knew#lorraine baines#marty mcfly#back to the future#bttf#ALSO#think about it#marty tried so hard his whole life up til the movie trying to be the opposite of his dad#Outspoken attentive confident#But he’s so much like George regardless#Their fear of rejection#“What if they think I’m no good”#Their being afraid to pursue their passions/being shut down#Lorraine was always going to fall for george#She fell in love with the George she saw in marty#But Marty caught her eye because of his confidence#Lorraine lived a miserable life with George originally#But when he started believing in himself and became the more confident version of himself#Lorraine fell for him harder and they lived a great life together#Jesus that’s a lot of tags#P-14f

#transformers one#tf one#starscream#eisen art#digital painting#digital illustration#digital art#yeah... I've been obsessed w tf since i watched the movie in october#what's w the excessive use of rake brushes?? Good question. I wanted to emulate the feel of metal#but turns out my knowledge of how to use rake brushes are in fact. poor#starscream isn't my fav character it's actually d-16 but I really liked screamer's character design#it's such a refreshing take but still recognizable as starscream. the black accent w his classic colors is such a great design#also funnily enough whenever I see tfone starscream fanart his hips are always cocked#I started this piece a month ago so when I saw the other fanarts I'm pretty bemused. It's like everyone's a hive mind or something#or maybe it's just not starscream if he isn't cunty#anyway

After rewatching Trolls World Tour, I just realized the relevance of the high five at the start of Trolls Band Together <3
It means they have a strong connection!
On the second movie he failed to talk with Poppy about their relationship and then she called him a friend. He got so caught up on that, that they failed to make a connection and having a good high five.
Failing miserably.
Just look at him, he feels so bad
Also I love how easy the confession was at the end
Just so casual
"and I love that we are different"
"And I love you Queen Poppy" the way he says it, so simple yet clear
"And I love you too Branch" and Poppy and her little smile, that was the smile she used to give Creek before the whole fall out, she´s now smitten with Branch :) and she loves him too, what else can you ask?
the love was always there, they just needed to have a better connection, you know, the whole thing where she wasn't actually listening to anybody because she was too focused trying to be a good queen
Also I love seeing Branch happy, it´s so tender
And they finally have their perfect high five!
Wait, did she hug him at the end? 🥺
I hadn´t noticed
I love their relationship, since the first movie and how it evolved
it´s just so tender and wholesome
#Broppy#Trolls dreamworks#dreamworks trolls#Queen Poppy#Trolls Branch#Branch Trolls#I love them so much#the dancing on the beginning is just so sweet#I wish for a gif of they just spinning and dancing 🥺#Maybe when the third movie is available I might make a compilation of them <3#their expressions are just so sweet together#in general the characters in the trolls movie are so expressive it's great! and animation! I love it! the art style! and everything!!#They are heavily underrated movies#haha also I love his expression on the fourth pic#like that´s not exactly pain he´s feeling#it´s a bad feeling and it feels physical oww nerves and anxiety I guess#I feel you buddy#a shame I couldn´t get a good quality screenshot#had to retake some of the second movie with clips on youtube haha
