First original post in a while but I'm gonna explode if I don't get this out!!!

So I stumbled upon an old fav "good for you" from Dear Evan Hansen and I just immediately got whiplash because of how well it fits the dynamic between Jimmy and Curly during and following the birthday party scene ((Also some lyrics could apply to the others))((ft. the crash at the end))((would make a sick animatic or smth!!))((the lyrics ft the others I could see foreshadowing their deaths (they're even in that order like WHATTTT)))((Also remember it's likely they died thinking Curly crashed the ship 😔))

Dear Evan Hansen isn’t a bad musical you’re just watching it wrong

Taking the main character at face value as a protagonist who is supposed to be wholly morally right and likable and the person we are rooting for to get what they want?? Broke.

Realizing that the POV we follow isn’t always that of a person who is right or good or intended to be likable and somebody who makes morally correct choices? Woke.

The story itself is profound if you don’t consume it with the expectation of trying to justify Evan’s actions to yourself, rather than accepting that he Does Bad Things that can’t be excused.

Exist in the bad and realize it’s bad, accept that it’s bad, and what you’re consuming becomes a lot less frustrating and/or uncomfortable.

for forever is SUCH a devastating song when you think about it. like, it's this kid reinventing his entire life, but more specifically the circumstances around his SUICIDE ATTEMPT. sure, he's lying to connor's family, but he's lying to himself, as well. he's trying he's very hardest to forget that he climbed that tree to kill himself, trying to overwrite it with this beautiful story of his best friend and following him up into the trees to watch the sun and the sky and the beautiful perfect day. and then he falls out of the tree, and he looks around and he's come to get me. there was someone THERE. someone HEARD him falling in that forest. he remade what's probably the lowest point of his life into a "perfect day"
