people seem to be really liking this one, and I'm right there with them! originally I put a background noise of some rainfall but after a couple (hundred) listen throughs I realized the effect was way too much like white noise and not enough like water so I took it out
I think I'm allergic to not making water level music like it kind of just happens (it also rules, so) I'm a big fan of gluck and this is more or less a spiritual sequel. I think I've really developed in my composing since then and making this really helped me figure out new ways of doing my arpeggios and chord preogressions so they kinda speak to each other, or like they're Telling you something. they've got places to be
this is also kind of the start to me figuring out drum beats too. before this I mostly used samples bc I didn't really know what the typical drum groove structure was and this was me figuring some stuff out. I spent a lot of time trying different things and watching tutorials and it was really frustrating!! but ultimately I'm happy with how it's turned out and my drums journey continues

what am I talking about
this one is one of my personal favorites I can't tell you how fun this was to make, ESPECIALLY that part around 2:15ish in oh my god when I first got that together I just about screamed and had to pace around my room. the instrument is Orchestra Batterie (the percussion section) and each note is a different instrument sound. I put in the midi notes from around 0:57 in the batterie and then with some adjustments -- oh my god!! I've tried that with some of my other songs and it doesn't work like it does in this one (but it's been very useful for my various other percussive needs) it's SO fun and I learned a lot about how to structure an orchestra batterie and what kind of effects I want from different instruments (the, idk what it's called, the one that sounds like hitting a metal sheet like a thunder sheet is so mwuah, chef's kiss) I always have a great time listening to this
I would love to know what y'all think! please feel free to ask me anything about my latest bum!
ohh and the bass, it took me a little bit to get the bass I wanted (it's a couple different ones layered together) and I'm infatuated with how it almost sounds like a helicopter in some parts. theres a bounciness to the eighth notes that I'm just delighted with and it helped me figure out how I wanna do bass for pretty much all of my other songs in this album

for the release of my new album I thought I'd post about each song, what I was thinking/feeling and a little of my process, bc some people have been asking and I have been dying to talk about it!
so for some context I made my YELLOW and BLUE albums back in 2018/2019 and only posted them last year bc I've recently found the will to live. I haven't been making music for a while until the time I published those last year and this was one of the first songs I made as I started getting back to making music.
this, and pretty much all my songs, are mixed with headphone listening in mind. not that you can't listen to these on speakers, I listen to them in the car often, but it might sound a little odd in places. I'm using Studio One as my DAW, I like it but it's a monthly subscription plan which is not ideal but I'm kind of in that "a poor person spends more on boots" type of situation and can't afford to splurge on a hundreds dollar program at the moment (considering looking into Reaper though) and I have a Novation Launchpad mini (which I absolutely love).
for this one my intention going in was making a song that was a little slower, a little more based on the sounds of the instruments. I really like the bassy synths and how they surround you with headphones on. it really feels like you're in a Place. and then as I was playing around with the chords and melody (bc that's pretty much how I figure everything out is just, messing about) I was thinking about how I really love when there's a consistent note playing, but with the chords changing around it, the note sounds differently within those contexts.
listening to it now yeah I love this, like to be perfectly frank I think I am my own biggest fan bc I have been listening to this on repeat since I made it and I love it (as with basically all the songs in this album) I love being transported to a Place that reminds me of looking at ispy books as a kid when i was very young and ████████ it feels very take my hand and escape, to me.
I would really love to hear what it makes you think of! please feel free to send me your thoughts or ask me any questions ^_^ !!

boy howdy does this song go doot doot. this one was fun, I mean they're all fun I keep saying that lmao. it was left incomplete for a while and I actually tried a bunch of different things (I figured out how to master and reverse my midi tracks. the result on this song was... interesting but not very fitting. def will use in a different song though)
there's not much to say, while making this I found the dancer instrument which comes in after that intro, you'll find it again in my other song forward and overwhelm and some others. it's a delight!
