Kim Young-dae roles ranked from least interesting to most:
Perfect Family, Park Kyung-ho - dies in the first episode and mostly disappears after episode 4. Why is this actor still playing high school students? Dies very beautifully but not enough time to learn anything more than "nice" and "into the female lead"
Extraordinary You, Oh Nam-joo - the character is a broody, emotionally-unavailable trope and never really develops. Also, as one of the characters who never gains sentience, there isn't a lot going on here.
Penthouse War in Life 1-3, Ju Seok-hoon - all this character can do is be devoted to women (his twin, his crush, and his stepmom) and hate his dad. He also occasionally plays piano. Not bad traits, but not very exciting. He becomes slightly more active in S3 but not more interesting.
No Gain No Love, Kim Ji-uk - this character could have been so much better if he got more screentime but we rarely know what he's thinking or see his perspective. I did love that he was a male, super-friendly people-pleaser with abandonment issues since that's usually reserved for female characters. Unpopular opinion: they should have kept the long hair.
Moon in the Day, Han Jun-oh - dies in the first episode and yet that's enough time to fully hate every fibre of his being. He's obsessed with his girlfriend but in the worst way because she's over him. He calls children fat, has zero work ethic, and won't learn CPR. He's the worst. Great character.
Sh**ting Stars, Gong Tae-sung - so many layers to this character, he's very professional at work, unless he's (lovingly) harassing Oh Han-byul or experiencing PTSD. He's got abandonment issues and like 5 people he trusts. He's perfectly charming in public and ridiculous when no one is around. Super fun character.
The Forbidden Marriage, King Lee Heon - he vacillates between Cute Wife Guy (his true form), crying mess, and murderously angry. He's being psychologically tortured and is almost at his breaking point, but he just wants to be a silly little guy who loves his wife. Such an interesting character.
Moon in the Day, Kim Do-ha/Possessed Han Jun-oh - he's trying to commit suicide via letting an assassin live in his house, he's desperately in love with a woman and 100% convinced she'll kill him; he's determined to kill a reincarnation of said girl, but he can't because he still loves her despite all the murder and 1500 years of cursed existence. No one is doing it like him. Very good at glaring and standing around ominously but also at heart eyes. Will kill everyone if his girl has a fever

Kim Young Dae | Allure Korea - November 2024
I feel proud when I’m praised for my work. For me, acting isn’t complete until it resonates with the viewers. When someone resonates with my performance or feels inspired by it, that’s when I feel like I’ve done well. That’s why I prefer being called by my character names like Kim Ji Wook, Joo Seok Hoon, Oh Nam Joo, or Gong Tae Sung rather than my real name. I just wanted to get through the year without any major issues. It’s been an eventful year, but here I am, still standing. I want to get back into reading. I feel like I need to detox my mind and spirit. In my early 20s, I loved reading and did it often, but these days, I just end up watching Reels when I could be reading. That’s probably the cause of my emotional highs and lows, right? I want to get rid of all the things I see as problems—like sleeping in, binge-watching Reels, and overeating. I want to resist the impulse to make unhealthy choices as a way of dealing with stress.

i binge watched Sh**ting Stars and i had SO MUCH FUN??? i'm really late to the party but i love my insufferable, very dignified, cool characters to be incredibly loser-coded and unfortunately for me..............gong tae-sung......what a true dumbass (affectionate)
(also it's been a while since i enjoyed an entire ensemble of characters. NO exceptions, NO skipping ahead--just silly, but engaging story lines, with lots of different dynamics, great comedic timing, and dramatic peaks.)
ahhhh, a good romcom... so simple, but so hard to come by
#shooting stars#sh**ting stars#kdrama commentary#my favorite relationship was probably rookie manager jungyeol with prickly mf taesung#or maybe my girls hanbyeol and hoyoung and kibbeum being actual normal friends??#no actually i really liked how rookie actress dahye was portrayed......#it was so tropey but at least i feel like i've been FED like every other scene and every other relationship#was curated for MY TASTES#the show for me was kinda like.... ''i didn't say it was GOOD i said i LIKED it''

Episode 12 thoughts
- the length of the drama was perfect although i wish they'd shown us more of them post marriage
- their marriage. that's it.
- her power outfit aaa
- their HOUSE!! this is a big one. Not only is it the house she's always wanted, lively and safe (maintaining boundaries by not giving acccess to her parents) but also genuinely so cute. I hadn't liked the previous space at all and the contest they've shown is beaut.
- his name. aaaaaaaaa.
- i wish we'd seen more of the 2nd lead couple but it goes to show how we already rooted for them despite them not having a lot of screen time tgt. the actors did a great job.
- all the actors really, did good. the kidnapper, the parents, great cast.
- Yoo Yeon Seok captured every scene throughout the drama like the perfectionist he is, I'll def be watching his other series.
- Soo-bin was great. Sign language and its nuances with her expressions are difficult to execute at the same time but she did it very very well.
- you-ri's worship of paik sa eon reminds me of Gong Tae sung's co-star and fan (in Sh**ting Stars)
- In-a >>>>>>>
- park do jae yassss welcome backk
- mr. kang is the real pookie in this show
- I like when my wife doesn't hold back >>>

Amergency Act 19 (긴급조치 19호)
It is a satirical 2002 South Korean film about a government act that prohibits popular music and passed in response to a number of musicians being elected to government elsewhere in the world. It is notable for the numerous K-pop stars that make appearances in the film.
Directed by: Kim Tae-gyu
Written by: Kim Sung-dong and Lee Seung-guk
Produced by: Song Chang-yong
Starring:
Kim Jang-hoon as himself, Hong Kyung-min as himself, Gong Hyo-jin as Min-ji, Noh Joo-hyun as the Chief Secretary and Min-ji's father and Ju Yeong-hun as himself
List of Cameos:
Besides the main cast, there are a number of actors and K-pop singers and groups who make cameos in the film as themselves.
They are:
Kim Sung-oh as soldier 2 at Vinyl House, Baby V.O.X., Brown Eyes, CAN, Chakra, Click-B, Fin.K.L, Harisu, Kangta, Koyote, NRG, Shinhwa, UN, and Psy
Plot:
Troubled by the growing worldwide trend of pop singers being elected as politicians, the President of South Korea orders his Chief Secretary to invoke "Emergency Act 19". This new law criminalizes all pop singers, and the army is deployed on the streets of Seoul to round them up. One pop star, Hong Kyung-min, is arrested while performing a concert, but his angry fans mob the soldiers as they try to take him away. The Chief Secretary's teenage daughter, Min-ji, is amongst the fans, and leading her idol to safety gives him her phone number. Kyung-min finally makes a getaway with his friend and fellow pop star, Kim Jang-hoon.
Once Jang-hoon and Kyung-min become fully aware of the situation, they contact Min-ji, who is able to hide the two singers in a secret location. The Chief Secretary finds out that his daughter is working against him, and when she refuses to give them up, he has false news reports created, accusing the singers of sexually assaulting minors. Meanwhile, more pop stars are rounded up by the authorities who are now aided by another singer, Ju Yeong-hun, who decides to betray his friends in order to save himself.
Angered by their tarnished reputations, Jang-hoon and Kyung-min acquire a gun from a shady weapons dealer, and with Min-ji's help they are able to take the Chief Secretary and his staff hostage. They take their captives to the park, where Min-ji has organized a mass demonstration with her friends and other music fans. The army arrive on the scene and engage the demonstrators in conflict, finally capturing Jang-hoon and Kyung-min. The Chief Secretary is able to walk free in all the chaos, but he is appalled by the violence and orders the fighting to stop, convincing the President to repeal the emergency act and restoring peace.
I couldn't find this movie with subs anywhere. I usually watch kdramas but found it on YouTube in 2 parts without eng subs.
If anyone knows where I could watch this movie fully with eng subs would be very helpful.

(Part 1 above and Part 2 below)

This movie is based on events that happened in South Korea during the 1970s and 1980s with censorship during the Park Chung Hee Presidency (1961-1979) and Chun Doo Hwan Presidency (1980-1988).
This blog explains a bit about how Seotaji combatted censorship after the 1980s.
More about the censorship during the 1980s in South Korea.
This blog is about the evolution of Korean music in the 70s to the 80s with censorship
The wiki about the Amergency Act 19 (긴급조치 19호) movie.
Should probably go into more detail about this topic, but it gets very long and can be very confusing, and I would rather explain this in my Korean music history on male and female groups.

My favorite drama couples
In no particular order and some minor SPOILER warning!) → Feel free to add your own favorite couples to the post, so we can share the love.
Sh**ting Stars (Oh Han-byul / Gong Tae-sung):
They are one of my absolute favorite couples in any drama I’ve watched so far. I don’t know what it is about them, but they are just so good together! (And it doesn’t hurt that the actors have an amazing chemistry). Enemies to lovers is a guilty pleasure trope for me, and this does it perfectly – they bicker so much in the beginning, but slowly realize that they actually make a great team, and they come to rely on each other a lot. They actually communicate properly, sharing their worries without being judged, and the drama never relies on something as silly as miscommunication as a point of drama for them. It’s not often a drama makes me actually smile like a complete lovesick idiot when watching, but this just goes straight to my heart. The drama might not be my fave overall, as it has its own issues, but I’ll watch it 100 times over for them.
Hidden Love (Sang Zhi / Duan Jiaxu):
At first, I didn’t think I was going to like this drama too much as I was unsure about the whole age gap thing, but oh my word. This drama had me giggling like a teenager with a crush, and I was unable to stop smiling for most of it. They are so stinking cute together, and the fact that they actually communicate their thoughts and feelings with each other throughout it all is so important – especially with how their relationship started. I feel like I’m just repeating myself from what I said about Sh**ting Stars, but both of these couples just make me happy to watch. This relationship in particular has raised my standards so high, I’m probably going to end up single for the rest of my life. This drama really is all it’s hyped up to be and more.
Happiness (Yoon Sae-bom / Jung Yi-hyun):
A fake marriage of convenience between two best friends, who both secretly have feelings for each other ?- sign me the fuck up. Two strong people who support each other through everything (in this case, an outbreak of zombies in their complex) – what more could you ask for? They just get each other, and both are willing to walk through hell and back for the other. We sadly don’t actually get to see them together all that much after they’ve finally confessed, but they acted like a couple anyway, so I’m not too sad about it.
Fight For My Way (Ko Dong-man / Choi Ae-ra):
They have known each other for so long and, though they bicker, they are always the first to defend the other no matter what. They support each other’s dreams the best they can (though Ae-ra does have a problem with the fighting, and she tries to make him quit by making him choose between her and fighting, which I am not about, but I do get she’s just scared he’ll get hurt again). Either way, there is just something so pure about their love and the way they both slowly realize just what their feelings have evolved into as they grew up together.
Doom at your service (Doom / Tak Dong-kyung):
These two had a rocky start, but I also feel like it only made them work better as a couple. The iconic lines: “So my plan is to love you, then I'll be able to live without losing anything.” / “Then let's do it right, love me to the point that you want to destroy the world for me.” are forever ingrained in my mind. It’s about both of them learning what life could actually be if you let yourself feel and live for yourself instead of living for everyone else. They help each other through it all until they both realize they deserve love, and I find that really beautiful.

Weak Hero Character Names
For those who don't know, the Weak Hero webtoon anglicized a bunch of the characters' first names from Korean to English. They don't do this for newly introduced characters anymore AFAIK, but all the names they anglicized initially have been kept that way.
Since I've gotten a few people asking about the names, so I decided to compile a list of their original Korean names. You can find amost of these on their character profiles on the Weak Hero fandom page, but I figured people would appreciate having a quick reference that is all in one place. Hopefully this helps people learn/connect their original names.
Remember, this is not a full character list, it's for finding the Korean names of the characters that had their names anglicized.
The format will be:

Timothy Park -> Park Taegi (Tae-gi)*

Sh**ting Stars
Synopsis:
Fans think top South Korean star Gong Tae Seong (Kim Young Dae) is as sweet and innocent as can be. But behind closed doors, he isn’t quite so angelic. His management company’s PR team ace Oh Han Byeol (Lee Sung Kyung) knows the real Tae Sung, as she's tasked with doing whatever it takes to hide his hot temper and competitive streak from the public. It’s a thankless job, and one that frequently puts her at odds with the temperamental celebrity. But as they spend more time together, might they eventually spend less time butting heads… and more time falling in love?
The Best Things About This Drama:
Kim Young Dae
The chemistry between all of the couples
The so cringey it's cute writing
I happily give it a 4/5. Kim Young Dae really shines in this one, because you get to see a broad range of his abilities with this character. There's no bad guy in this one, so you can really just lose yourself in the fun enemies-to-lovers trope. The suspense and drama that was included definitely felt like an after-thought and didn't carry much weight or impact to the overall plot. The development of all the different relationships were plenty for this story thanks to the stellar casting, and they should have trusted that more.

Sh**ting Stars is the best show! I think my favourite part was that it had so many side characters and I actually liked all of them. The three female friends all have partners by the end, including the Second Male Lead who ended up happy for once (the lawyer), which was great. The young couple that got married was cute too.
There were so many good friendships! And good colleagues who supported each other. It felt very warm and fuzzy even in the sad parts
I was very happy that after the serious bit about Gong Tae-sung's mom and their friend's suicide that it got right back to shenanigans. The banter and antics were hilarious. Tae-sung was so ridiculous but also cute. He managed to be a very lovable jerk. Oh Han-byul was great too, very competent and cute.
The Africa stuff was somewhat cringy, but otherwise, highly recommend!
