lando norris is max verstappen's "best friend on the grid" and carlos sainz's go-to "golf buddy" and oscar piastri's big brother/mentor figure and daniel ricciardo's little brother and lewis hamilton's favorite brit and fernando alonso's chaos grid kid of choice and george russell and alex albon's fellow 2019 rookie 4 life, on publicly good terms with esteban ocon and yuki tsunoda, told by sebastian vettel to “keep your smile” in a special helmet exchange after seb’s retirement, once referred to as a "puppy" by ted kravitz, adored by the journalists to the point where even they’re worriedly telling him to stop being so hard on himself and asking for their “happy bubbly lando” back, with a freakishly close relationship to every teammate he's ever had, padel partners with the twitch quartet + max, besties with over half the grid, beloved by the older generation, adored by his quadrant/non-f1 friends, picks up hobbies like there's no tomorrow, most driver of the day wins in 2023, the people's princess and the paddock's princess all at once
which is all to say i cannot wait for him to win a race (or, knocking on wood, a championship) and watch half the grid running at him and just bowling him over in excited congratulations the moment he steps out of that car. he'll be absolutely swarmed and you can bet i'll be freaking out on the internet about it too
#my fav for a reason#lando norris#formula 1#i love how beloved he is by all the other drivers#and i need that race win NOW#it will destroy me#in the best of ways

Warnings: this fic will include elements, some dark, such noncon/dubcon, and other untagged triggers. Please take this into account before proceeding. It is up to curate your online consumption safely.
Summary: your boss, Mr. Hansen, runs you ragged but you find solace in an unexpected friend.
Characters: Lloyd Hansen, Jake Jensen.
Author’s Note: This one is dedicated to my dearest @thezombieprostitute
Please feel free to leave some feedback, reblog, and jump into my asks. I’m always happy to discuss with you and riff on idea. As always, you are cherished and adored! Stay safe, be kind, and treat yourself💜
"Drive," Mr. Hansen tosses the keys as he struts across the lot.
You barely catch them, you're scramble swinging your bag down to your wrist precariously. You right yourself as you get your finger through the keyring and you hit the button to unlock the doors. The tail lights flash to signal which car is his.
You don't argue with his demand, even if you don't think you should be driving his car. You get in and he flops into the other side, leaning back with his phone in hand like a teenager. You sit dumbly in front of the steering wheel and slowly pull the seat belt across your torso. Where the heck is the ignition?
"New model, critter," Hansen jabs his finger into the button by the wheel. "Drop the keys in the cup holder."
You obey and take in your bearings. You adjust the mirrors and the seat.
"Hey, don't fuck things up too much," he warns.
"Yes, sir," you put your hands on the wheel then reach to shift into reverse. The screen in the dash lights up with the rear view cam.
You're not used to the updated model. You back up cautiously and turn the nose of the car straight. You lean on the gas little by little as you pass between the rows of cars.
When you reach the street, you're no more comfortable controlling the luxury sedan but as always, there is no arguing. You idle at the light. Aimless.
"Colin's," Hansen insists, "they got better variety."
"Right," you put the blinker on and turn, undoubtedly irking the driver behind you.
As he continues to key in his phone, you focus on the road. You're grateful for the task. That way you don't have to think of or speak to him. Still, he's there and inescapable.
As you pull up to the store, he clucks. You shut off the engine and stare at the images of golf pros in their hats and gloves, a certain demographic with clubs in their hands on a green background. It’s the last place you would ever choose to go. With Mr. Hansen, there is rarely a choice.
He gets out first. Your reluctance must be clear as he whistles over his shoulder as you shut the driver’s door. You scurry to catch up to him. He nearly drops the door on you.
You follow him inside. A man in a polo greets him as you hover behind. It’s clear you’re not there to shop for you. Hansen chats with the guy about wood or something, then asks about the gloves. You leave a few feet between you as you take his lead.
He silently debates as he takes a pair of white and a pair of bright red gloves. He tilts his head back and forth. “Whatcha think, critter? Classy or trashy?”
You watch him wiggle first the white then the red. You can’t help but feel the selection in colour is deliberate. Red like your dress.
“The white are nice, sir. But won’t they get dirty?” You suggest.
He squints and rolls his eyes. He throws both pairs at you and grabs black, “you’re right. Who wants to get down and dirty, huh?”
You catch the gloves and hang them back up. He strolls along the wall of clubs and takes one out to feel the weight. You stand back. He tuts and puts it back.
“Hm,” he looks at you, no past you.
You nearly cower as he marches towards you. As he passes, you turn to follow his attention. You blanch at the shelf of clothing. It isn’t meant for him. He picks up a black skirt and flutters the pleats.
“You got long legs, critter, one wrong move...” he smirks over at you.
“Sir,” you utter flatly.
“You golf? Not mini putt, but real golf?” He asks.
You hesitate. You don’t know if it’s the first time he’s genuinely asked about you. Not rhetorical or sarcastic or demeaning. But a question with an answer.
“No, Mr. Hansen.”
He sucks his teeth then folds the skirt. He slaps it against the gloves. “Never too late.” He pushes both towards you, “we’ll need a cute top to go with that. Oh, and shoes...”
“Shoes? Sir?”
“Well, that fucker Brenner canceled. I need some competition,” he shoulders by you. “I’ll take a handicap so you have a fighting chance.”
“But sir--”
“But sir what? You got better things to do? No, you work for me and this is my time and I will use you—it, however I choose,” he chortles as he stops at the shelf of shirts. He takes out a halter with a collar. You frown and sidle along with him. “You a D? C? Double? I’m no good at guessing. Tits are tits.”
You nearly choke. You cough out your shirt size. He really can’t think the scale is based on chest alone. Or maybe he does.
“What about the contracts for Halo--”
“Who gives a fuck, critter. Make a goddamn call. You know Prissy down in legal. She wants to suck me bad. Tell her I need a favour and she’ll get it all done up with a bow,” he adds the shirt to your armload.
You stare at him. Why is he doing this? You know he’s not trying to take you out for a day of fun and he surely doesn’t want to spend time with you. He’s torturing you. This is all on purpose.
“You know,” he pauses and looks you in the face, “usually when I take a girl on a shopping spree, she doesn’t look so miserable.”
You try to ease the tension from your face but it’s tough. You’re still agitated from the morning. And the night before. And the years you’ve been trudging through humiliation at his beck and call.
“Thank you, sir. It’s very generous.”
His eyes flick up and down. He harrumphs but doesn’t speak his thoughts. You’re not sure that’s good. He holds grudges. You’ve seen how that goes.

Part 3: The Death, Rebirth, and Afterlife of Parasite Alice
The Riverside Clinic for Wellness and Long-term Care weathered safely the storms of the burn just as all the worst memories navigate the mindscape unimpeded. The venerable history of the red brick and white trimmed building carried it through the poor and homeless left in squalor to the airy chill of lobotomy and electroshock therapy, two wings wide and three floors tall. Its height well serviced its intent, too short for escape even via a yearning leap from the roof to its concrete driveway.
The persistance of such single-minded enclosure of the divergent mind carried forward to the interior, with mutiply sectioned floors along each wing navigable only through a network of stairwells. A more modern elevator spired through the center of the building, lever operated and gated by iron on all sides. None of the layers of white tile or muted gray carpet or soothing art prints or geometic wall paintings over the years could fully excise the prison lovingly built into the architecture. Inside, it promised no escape. Outside its dignified facade offered warm reassurance that aging loved ones to difficult children and everyone in between would be safely forgotten.
Some part of Alice understood all this as the square black truck complained about stopping at the brick stairs with their awkwardly late addition of a wheel chair accessible ramp, leading to wide white doors set with large windows blocked by gauzy white curtains. The driver helped her out of the car and she said, "I can do it just fine!" before almost falling as her legs wobbled. She didn't like strangers touching her, but now everyone was a stranger and she leaned on a stranger just for the simple task of reaching the door of the building where she will die of cancer.
The doors swung inward to reveal an average man with a surfeit of dignity to his gray peppered mustache and deep, dark eyes beneath a noble high forehead and a gently swept back head of mostly gray hair. His thick belly preceded his wide shoulders into any room, and his hands were noticeably large with thick fingers, moving quickly and nimbly to pull a wheelchair onto the small porch. He wore checked trousers, a pale yellow golf shirt, and his arms were exceptionally hairy.
"So good to meet you," he let one hand overtake his stomach to greet Alice, which she disregarded. "My name is Dr Hopewell, and I'm the administrator here at Riverside. I've heard quite a bit about you, and I wanted to make you comfortable right away. You're quite the special guest!" He smiled away the dignity of his profile.
"I don't need a wheelchair," she said. The driver shrugged and let her go, forcing her to grab to armrests to keep standing. "I'm just tired." She gave daggers out of her eyes to both men before maneuvering herself into the seat. "Don't get used to this."
The driver passed a clipboard over her head. "You gotta sign for the delivery, also initial there... and there. Sign and date there too. Okay, nice knowing you."
Dr. Hopewell was already turning her and rolling her into the building before the driver started the truck. "Don't worry Alice, we'll make sure you have the best of care here. You're a celebrity after all, but there may be a few bumps ahead!" They wheeled past a heavy wood door and a much larger orderly took over, pushing her down the hall then bumping up a flight of stairs.
"We specialize these days in unique individuals like yourself. I understand you won't persue treatment?" She folded her arms and rolled her eyes. "Well, if you change your mind, we can be ready to start immediately." The chair and orderly bumped back down stairs into another long hallway. "But here is your room, and we've put you with someone you should get along with. She's very unique."
The room was small, two beds with a curtain divider, wall mounted TV sets, a closet bathroom, one tall window and a few small sets of sad artificial wood drawers.
Another woman sat in a rolling tube frame chair in the far corner of the room. She was big and soft and still in pajamas, her belly stuck out a bit from under the top, and her sloping shoulders seemed to be a permanent fixture of her slouch while the sweeping curve of her neck to her chin echoed in her faint jawline. Her nose was long and straight and Alice thought it was very fine with her dark black eyes looking a thousand miles away and her arrow straight glossy black hair hanging behind the chair. Alice wondered what it would be like to hold her hand. Would she squeeze hard or gently? Interlaced or fingers to thumb.
She about the woman's hands and lips and eyes enought, it took her longer than it should have to realize the other woman was also shimmering with the golden glow of the burn.

ndjihyo wanting to spend a day with her fav unnie chaeyoung at the golf course and show her all the amazing stones she got and tell her everything about all the different sort clubs and ya know other golf stuff
favorite golf girl jihyo :)
show and tell
|| littlend!jihyo, big sis!chaeyoung ||
The sun was high in the sky by the time Chaeyoung got out of the car. She walked over to the passenger side and unbuckled Jihyo, who had been bouncing in her seat the whole ride to the golf course.
“Unnie! Golf! Golf!”
Chaeyoung laughed and nodded as she helped Jihyo out of the car. She held the little’s hand and grabbed her bag from the back. “I know, Hyo. We're gonna have so much fun, right?"
Jihyo excitedly nodded, flapping her free hand as they walked towards the main building of the golf course. They checked in at the front desk, Jihyo's eyes lighting up as soon as she saw a woman swinging at the driving range.
Chaeyoung was tugged towards the main golf course. Carefully, they walked along the green, keeping a close eye out for any stray balls heading their way.
Jihyo stopped by the first hole and bent down to look at the carefully manicured lawn. Every blade of grass was perfectly trimmed. "Unnie! Camera!"
Chaeyoung chuckled and rifled through Jihyo's bag. She pulled out one of two disposable cameras and handed it to her little sister. She watched patiently as Jihyo took a few pictures of the grass and two golfers who were standing by the second hole.
People weren't normally allowed to just walk around the golf course without the intention of golfing, but the people who owned the place knew Jihyo well and knew that her love for golf was well beyond just playing the game.
There had been days where Jihyo would sit under a tree or by the sand pits on the course and watch for hours on end as people passed through to play the fifth or sixth hole. To the average person watching the little, it would look like she was just sitting and observing.
To Jihyo's members though, they knew that she was analyzing every swing and every movement of each player that passed through and hit a ball. She could identify a good swing from a bad swing just by the way a player's shoes were positioned.
The two walked and observed, Jihyo taking pictures of the same trees, the same flags placed in the holes, and the same sand pits. Once they made it to the tree Jihyo liked to sit under, Chaeyoung pulled the first camera out and a baggie of skittles — six red, five orange, and two green to be exact.
"Look, unnie! Driver!" Jihyo wiggled around in her spot, taking a picture of the woman and her clubs.
"Oh yeah? What does the driver do?" Chaeyoung asked and leaned back against the tree. She smiled as Jihyo composed herself, going into her lecture mode.
"The driver has the biggest head! It's in the woods family of the clubs and it's the 1-Wood!" Jihyo's eyes sparkled as she explained when the club was used, how it was used, and even the angle of the face of the club.
For about five minutes, Jihyo rambled on about the driver and how crucial it was for any golfer. Just as she was about to tell Chaeyoung how the golf tee factored into the player's swing when using a driver, she got quiet. Her focus was completely on the golfer in front of her.
The woman was lined up, her club down by the tee as she took a few practice swings. By the third practice swing, Jihyo could tell she was ready to make the ball fly.
Her camera ready, Jihyo took a picture exactly when the woman swung. She watched carefully as the ball flew across the course and towards the next hole.
"Bad swing," Jihyo mumbled as she observed the woman's disappointed face. Chaeyoung wasn't sure how Jihyo could tell that the swing was bad, but she knew not to question the little's judgement.
Jihyo stood up and positioned herself, mirroring the woman's stance before she took her swing. Adjusting her hips a little and shuffling her feet, she swung her arms. "This is a better angle." Jihyo smiled proudly as she moved her body again, imitating her new swing over and over again.
//
"Unnie, look!"
Chaeyoung bent down beside Jihyo as she picked up a jagged rock. She brushed her fingers over the bumpy surface and nodded. "That's a cool rock, Hyo."
Jihyo nodded in agreement and put the rock in her bag. She crouched down again and pointed to the other rocks that were surrounding her.
Rocks and golf were the things that Jihyo loved the most. As they walked along the golf course, the bag Chaeyoung carried got increasingly heavier.
"Okay, Hyo. You can pick out one more rock. The bag's getting a little too heavy for unnie to carry back." Chaeyoung gently took Jihyo's hand and held it in her own. She gave her hand a gentle squeeze to let Jihyo know that it was almost time to go.
Jihyo gave Chaeyoung a small pout but nodded as they looped back around to the second hole. She walked past the edge of the green and crouched down, sifting through all the stray branches and leaves. When she returned, she held up a small rock. It was flat and full of holes, but it was the perfect final rock.
"This one! It's sandstone. That means it sedimentary and made up of silicate grains." Jihyo proudly rambled off her facts about the new rock and handed it to Chaeyoung.
Not really understanding what she was saying, Chaeyoung just smiled and nodded along. She put the rock in her bag and pulled out Jihyo's baggie of skittles. There were only one of each color left.
"Do you like these because they're round like a golf ball?" Chaeyoung asked as Jihyo methodically licked the color off of the skittle. Her fingers and tongue tinted green, Jihyo nodded and smiled as she popped the now colorless skittle into her mouth.
As they finally made it back to the beginning of the golf course, Jihyo took her final picture. She put it back into the bag and held Chaeyoung's hand, rhythmically tapping her fingers against Chaeyoung's palm.
"There were 15 golfers today. There were five women and ten men," Jihyo stated as they walked back into the main building. "All of them used every club, but they used a fairway wood without a tee the most. They used a six iron the least."
Impressed by how Jihyo could keep all of that information in her head without writing down a single thing, Chaeyoung nodded in amazement as they slid into a booth.
No matter who Jihyo was with at the golf course, she always ended the day with a grilled cheese (crusts cut off) and five green beans. She didn't love the green beans, but it was the one vegetable that she didn't flat-out refuse.
As usual, lunch was exciting as well. The restaurant in the club was located right in front of the driving range. It gave Jihyo the perfect view of the people lined up at the range and enough to talk about for hours.
Patiently, Chaeyoung ate her meal as Jihyo rattled off a new fact in between bites of food. Even though it was a grilled cheese and five green beans, it took the little a while to finish since she was so excited about golf.
"He's using a neutral face drive, but he should be using an open face drive" Jihyo mumbled, her mouth full of grilled cheese as she pointed to a golfer.
//
Her tummy full, her cameras full, and her bag full of rocks, Jihyo happily sat in the back of Chaeyoung's car. She wasn't ready to go home just yet, but she knew that she'd be back tomorrow to watch and play more golf.
"Okay, Hyo. Ready to go home and show all your unnies the rocks you got?" Chaeyoung asked as she started the short drive back to her apartment.
Jihyo nodded and let out a small yawn. She curled up into her seat with her favorite stim toy. She shook it around gently as she quietly rambled off golf facts to Chaeyoung.
As always, Chaeyoung patiently listened, asking questions to keep her little sister talking. Days spent like this weren't the most exciting for her, but she knew they meant the world to Jihyo.

I’ve been watching What’s New Scooby Doo lately and I have some thoughts.
Fred Jones truly is one of the most autistic coded characters in this franchise.
His ongoing joke in this series is that he can bench 220, and this always comes up unprompted. He’s also working on benching 221 and good for him.
Fred Jones is a big professional wrestling fan and apparently keeps his mat wrestling gear on him JUST IN CASE he’s at a show and the company needs a fast and sudden substitute wrestler (this was a plot point in an episode I’m not joking)
Fred is the one who does most of not all of the driving because he’s the one that owns the Mystery Machine.
This doesn’t mean Fred is a good driver. In one episode he drove over a decaying, wood bridge that started to crumble as they went over it. Once on the other side he just goes “Can I drive or what? :D” as everyone else had years shaved off their life.
There was a pilot who let Fred in the cockpit to see the controls and he immediately caused the plane to make a nosedive. Daphne and Velma both buckled up as soon as the offer was made.
I legitimately don’t understand how the crew for Velma looked at Fred Jones and went “this is an asshole man-child” when he’s literally just a guy.
No really, how do you look at this man and go “yeah he’s a raging douchebag”? babe there are no thoughts happening.
The show completely ignores that Cairo is a city that is literally right next the the Pyramids of Giza and went with a desolate village for the sake of story telling
Two episodes previous they fully acknowledge that there are several cities on the continent of Africa (they never state what country they’re in and just keep saying Africa as if it’s not the second largest continent)
Shaggy’s character completely changes when he’s playing mini golf and I think that’s just really funny.
This show is aggressively 2002 and happy for her on that.
They rely on tropes and stereotypes for certain locations way too much and that concerns me even for a show that’s 20 years old. (They definitely went there with Mexico and New Mexico)
Speaking of the Mexico episode, why a worm????? Why is there a cult for it?????
I haven’t watched this episode yet, but apparently the gang is at a haunted lighthouse in the Midwest and I already know they’re not going to be on the Great Lakes. EDIT: THEY’RE IN WISCONSIN
The entire gang has to be super well off because they travel internationally A LOT. I want to know what the budget for travel is alone.
I feel like they break a lot of laws when they go solve a mystery.
There’s probably also a lot of OSHA violations.
So far every villain has been a white person and good for her on that.
There’s a lot less real estate crime as the motives for the monsters. One person wasn’t done with their research and decided that instead of owning up they would fabricate a whole ass alien hatching from an egg instead. Iconic.
There were also two guys who dressed up as ghosts to make more money on their haunted tour rides.
Every time someone tries the change the structure of the group, things go wrong almost immediately. Truly the case study of “if it isn’t broke don’t fix it.”
So far in the series they’ve had two IRL bands which is Simple Plan and KISS.
I legitimately forgot how much of Simple Plan’s discography this show has. How much money did WB drop on this show???
I’m still on season 2, but it feels like they have to have a racing episode at least once every season.
The second racing episode played Hot by Smash Mouth and I recognized that song as soon as it started up. I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing.
Overall a fun show. Just gotta look past “Aggressively 2002” and some interesting decisions in writing.
There’s uhhh more but god there’s a lot to unpack.

Crimes That Shook Britain (Glasgow)
Peter Manuel In 1946, aged just 16, Peter Manuel was jailed for a string of sexual attacks. After his release in the mid-1950s, he became the country's worst serial killer. In January 1956, he stalked Anne Kneilands, 17, at an East Kilbridge golf course, raping and bludgeoning her to death.
That September, he shot Marion Watt, 45, and her daughter Vivienne, 17, as well as Marion's sister Margaret Brown, 41, in their Glasgow home. And Manuel's killing spree continued. In December 1957, Manuel shot taxi driver Sydney Dunn, 36 - and, later that month, Isabelle Cooke, 17, was raped, strangled and buried in a Lanarkshire field.
On New Year's Day 1958, Peter Smart, 45, his wife Doris, 42, and son Michael, 10, were shot in their beds. Manuel was finally caught after being arrested for using stolen money. At Glasgow High Court, Peter Manuel was convicted of eight murders. A coroner later found him guilty of the ninth.
In July 1958, after a last meal of fish and chips, he was hanged at HM Prison Barlinnie.
Colin Norris Glaswegian-born nurse Colin Norris once boasted to colleagues, 'someone always died' on his night shifts. And when Ethel Hall, 86 - admitted with a broken hip - was found unconscious and later died, a suspicious specialist ordered blood tests. She'd been given a massive insulin overdose.
Norris was convicted and sentenced to life for the murder of Ethel Hall, 86, Doris Ludlam, 80, Bridget Bourke, 88, and Irene Crookes, 79, and attempted murder of Vera Wilby, 90.
Norris, 32, had given them lethal doses of insulin at the two Leeds hospitals where he'd worked in 2002.
Murder of Emma Caldwell In May 2005 , Emma Caldwell, 27, was found dead in isolated woods near Biggar. The young woman, a Glasgow prostitute and heroin addict, had last been seen alive in the Govanhill area of Glasgow that April.
Emma's was one of a number of unsolved murders involving sex workers, and sparked a major police operation. Regular clients were interviewed by the Strathclyde force, no arrests were made. Two years after Emma's murder, police charged four Turkish men following a £4m covert operation.
The case later collapsed when evidence was brought into question - and the murder trail ran cold. The case remains open, yet unsolved.
Murder of Angelika Kluk In September 2006, the body of Angelika Kluk, 23, was found under the floor of a Glasgow church. She'd been beaten, raped and stabbed to death. Last to see her alive was church handyman Patrick McLaughlin. DNA on the Polish student's body matched that of Peter Tobin, jailed for rape in 1994 and released in 2004.
The sex offender, who'd been using the alias of Patrick McLaughlin, was arrested. At the High Court in Edinburgh in May 2007, Peter Tobin, 60, was convicted of murder and jailed for life. The case also led to his conviction for the murders of Vicky Hamilton, 16, and Dinah McNicol, 18.
Some speculate that Tobin may also be 'Bible John'.
House of Blood Murders A triple murder at a Glasgow flat in 2004 began with a boozy row between David Gillespie, 42, and Edith McAlinden, 37. After, David and pals Ian Mitchell, 67, and Tony Coyle, 71, lay dead, the walls dripping blood.
McAlinden, her son John, 17, and his mate, Jamie Gray, 16, each pleaded guilty to one count of murder. The teens got 12 years each, McAlinden a minimum of 13.
Bible John Bible John is the nickname given to a serial killer who raped and murdered three woman after meeting them at a Glasgow ballroom between 1968 and 1969.
The killings began in February 1968, when Patricia Docker, 25, was found in a back street battered and strangled with her own stockings. In August 1969, Jemima McDonald, 32, was found dead in a derelict building. And, two months later, Helen Puttock, 29, was strangled with her stockings.
All three had spent the previous evening at Barrowlands Ballroom. Helen's sister Jeannie Williams said that Helen had danced with a man named 'John', before sharing a taxi home, during which 'John' had quoted from the Bible.
However, despite a huge murder hunt, the investigation went cold. Some crime experts believe the known movements and methods of killer Peter Tobin suggest he could be Bible John. Yet, it has never been proved and the case remains unsolved.
Murder of Kriss Donald In March 2004, Kriss Donald was found dead beside the Clyde. The 15-year-old had been abducted and taken on a terrifying 200-mile drive, before being stabbed, doused in petrol and burned to death.
It seems gang members had killed him in revenge for an incident at a Glasgow club - not connected to Kriss - and he'd been singled out because he was white. Imran Shahid, 29, his brother Zeeshan, 28, and Mohammed Mushtaq, 27, were jailed for life for his murder.

Adams Golf’s Idea–Direct to Customer

The selling of golf clubs and balls is a predictable process, at least for the major manufacturers. Though each spends millions for endorsement by professional tour stars marketing plans usually place emphasis on where the company feels they have an advantage—for example, Callaway Golf’s Paradym drivers or Acushnet Company’s Titleist golf balls.
A key for the big manufacturers to pushing club and ball sales is establishing relationships with the so-called green grass shops found at every golf course and run by a PGA Professionals plus off-course vendors especially big box multiple location retailers while promoting online sales through their own websites and sites run by independents.
Adams Golf, which had all but disappeared after TaylorMade’s purchase in 2012 for $70 million, is taking a different route to re-establish itself with golfers. They have introduced a club family under the Idea brand name which is being sold DTC only from its website…no green-grass, no big box, no brick and mortar.
Of course, smaller, niche-focused makers sell online but often offer only a limited selection, perhaps just putters or balls. None of the major brands have opted to enter the market with a separate brand and then sell only DTC. For example, Callaway has the Big Bertha family and Tour Edge Golf the Hot Launch line, but neither is sold solely over the Internet.
To add to the attractiveness Adams/TaylorMade has decided to price the Idea clubs at the lower end of the current price spectrum with shaft selection limited to a single stock model though options of steel or graphite are offered in the irons. An Adams Idea driver, a fairway wood, two hybrids and seven irons may be purchased for just about $1500 while the latest from parent TaylorMade, a Stealth 2 driver, one fairway wood and two hybrids lists cost approximately the same amount and that doesn’t include the Stealth irons which could be another $1000. Adams ships at no cost for orders over $99.
An interesting business plan, TaylorMade creating in-house competition. Not unheard of in retail but always to be approached with a complete understanding of how the main, money-making brand will be affected when faced with a lower priced rival offering presumably the same quality though it could be argued performance may be significantly different. The company certainly believes that for a generation of consumers familiar with online purchasing, golf clubs on the web without a potentially intimidating store visit is worth the investment.
Adams Golf was started by Barney Adams in 1991 and his Tight Lies hybrid design changed hybrids forever with its innovative Tri-Sole that helped average players get the ball out of most any lie, long grass or even sand.
The Idea line can boast some of the latest design features and though they may not be as sophisticated as the TaylorMade Stealth still are attractive for use by new golfers and those returning to the game. For example, the draw-bias Idea driver has a carbon fiber crown, an adjustable hosel and sole slot while the cavity back irons are a hollow body construction with a variable thickness face.
In other words, many of the same talking points as any of the major makers competing clubs. The question is can TaylorMade revive Adams Golf with this one-of approach or will Adams slip back into obscurity.

Queen Elizabeth II remembered by Sir Jackie Stewart (December 11th 2022)
It happened almost by accident. I was supposed to be shooting with the Princess Royal at Windsor. (We had become friends in the early 70s when we both won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.) At the last minute the princess was called away to another engagement and it turned out that the Queen would be hosting instead.
At the shoot we talked about my grandfather being a gamekeeper. I was good friends with one of the head keepers at Sandringham, Bill Meldrum, who looked after and trained the Queen’s dogs, and Her Majesty saw Bill as someone very special.
After that first meeting she often invited me to shoot, both at Sandringham House and at Wood Farm [a farmhouse on the Sandringham estate]. Wood Farm was a much more cosy environment – it was a great retreat for her and Prince Philip and very modest in every way. The Queen would cook there herself and do the dishes. They were so much more at home there than at any of the big houses.
In private she was wonderful. When I was due to receive my knighthood from her in 2001, she had to take another engagement, so Prince Charles stood in for her. Later that day I was due to be shooting with the Princess Royal at Wood Farm, so my wife, Helen, and I took a helicopter to get there on time. We landed about 30 metres away from the main door. Who was there but Her Majesty. She came out to meet us at the helicopter and her first words to Helen were: “Lady Stewart, wonderful to see you.” Which was rather sweet – and of course the Queen knew very well how sweet it was.
We stayed in contact over the years and met many times. She would come for lunch at our home in Buckinghamshire. The first time was with the Duke of Edinburgh, but latterly she would come on her own or with her policemen. Once, she called to say she would like to bring some friends, if we didn’t mind – it was the brother of King Hussein of Jordan and his family.
It wasn’t a problem wondering what to cook for the Queen. I would normally ask her in advance what she would like to eat – simple as that. She was a very comfortable guest. We’ve got a nice house in Buckinghamshire and she liked the grounds. We’ve got a lot of statues of stags and hinds, and she has always been keen on those sorts of things. I would take her around on my golf buggy. I think she liked the informality of it all.
We never discussed her official responsibilities. I tried to give her the most relaxed day when she was coming to our home. The last time she came was just a few months ago and she was in fine form.
The very first time I was at Sandringham with the Queen, I offered to drive her. She said: “Certainly not, but you can navigate if you like.” So she put me beside her and she drove me to the barbecue and back. She did that many times. She was a very good driver, as good as any I’ve ever sat beside. Never missed an indicator or a dipped beam at night. Motor racing was not something that interested the Queen, however: she said it was very noisy.
When I turned 80, I arranged to have my birthday party at the Royal Automobile Club, and the chairman of the RAC wrote to the Queen, as she was patron, to see if she would be able to come. The palace replied to say unfortunately not. A weekend later, at Sandringham, I said to her: “Well, Ma’am, so sorry that you’re unable to attend my 80th birthday at the RAC.” She said: “Oh no! I didn’t know it was your 80th birthday.”
Two days later, the RAC got a message from the palace to say Her Majesty would be very happy to attend after all. That was a great privilege for me, a very unusual privilege. Obviously there were people of high rank who would quite often be seen by the Queen, but for Helen and me it was an unusual friendship.
I was supposed to be going to Balmoral just three days before the Queen died, because she wanted to see the film that has been made about me by my son Mark. We had arranged that Mark and I would go up to Balmoral to screen it for her. Sadly, the day before, her health deteriorated and they called me to say it wouldn’t be possible.
I’ve met presidents and heads of state around the world, but there was no one to match the Queen. She carried her responsibilities with such dignity and style. She adored her country. I don’t think there’s a person who’s had the privilege of meeting her who wouldn’t have been totally enthralled by her presence, her manners and her warmth. She was an extraordinary lady. I don’t think we’ll ever see her like again.
#brf#man reading this again is tough#she was a hell of a driver#and ma'am got a 10 from a f1 legend#royal anecdote#queen elizabeth ii#sir jackie stewart

Finding Your Perfect First Set: A Beginner’s Guide to Choosing Golf Clubs
How to Choose the Right Golf Club Set as a Beginner
Starting your golf journey is an exciting experience, and selecting the right golf club set is a crucial step in ensuring you have a positive and productive start. As a beginner, navigating the options can feel overwhelming with so many brands, materials, and styles available. However, with the right guidance, you can choose a set that fits your needs, budget, and skill level. Here's a detailed guide to help you make an informed decision.
Understanding the Basics of Golf Clubs
Golf clubs come in several types, each designed for specific shots. A standard set typically includes:
Driver: Used for long-distance shots off the tee.
Fairway Woods: Ideal for long shots from the fairway.
Irons: Versatile clubs used for various distances.
Wedges: Specialized irons for short, precise shots and escaping tricky spots.
Putter: Essential for rolling the ball into the hole on the green.
As a beginner, you don’t need every club available. Focus on a basic set that includes a few versatile clubs to start with.
Factors to Consider When Choosing Your First Set
1. Pre-Packaged Sets vs. Custom Builds
Pre-Packaged Sets: These are beginner-friendly and include all the essential clubs, usually at a lower price. They are convenient and provide a good starting point.
Custom Builds: While more expensive, custom sets can be tailored to your height, swing speed, and playing style. This option is better suited for advanced players or those committed to long-term improvement.
2. Club Material
Graphite Shafts: Lightweight and flexible, ideal for beginners with slower swing speeds.
Steel Shafts: Heavier and more durable, providing better control for players with faster swings.
3. Forgiveness
Look for clubs with a larger "sweet spot" to minimize the impact of mishits. Beginner clubs often feature:
Cavity-Back Irons: Designed with a hollowed-out back for more forgiveness.
Perimeter-Weighted Clubs: Distribute weight around the edges to improve stability.
4. Club Length
Choosing clubs that fit your height and arm length is essential for comfortable play. Many beginner sets offer standard lengths, but you can also find options for taller or shorter players.
5. Budget
Beginner sets range from $300 to $800 on average. While it’s tempting to splurge, start with a reasonably priced set and upgrade as you improve.
What Should Be in a Beginner’s Golf Bag?
A beginner-friendly golf set should include the following:
Driver: Look for a driver with a larger clubhead and higher loft (10.5–12 degrees) to help get the ball airborne easily.
Fairway Wood: A 3-wood or 5-wood is versatile and easier to hit than lower-number woods.
Hybrid Clubs: Replace long irons (like the 3- or 4-iron) with hybrids, which are easier to use and more forgiving.
Irons: Include a selection of mid-irons (5-iron through 9-iron) for versatility across the course.
Wedges: A pitching wedge and sand wedge are essential for short shots and bunker play.
Putter: Opt for a mallet-style putter, which offers better balance and alignment aids for beginners.
Key Tips for Selecting Your First Set
1. Test Before You Buy
Many golf shops and courses offer demo days where you can try different clubs. Testing helps you determine which set feels the most comfortable.
2. Prioritize Comfort Over Brand
Don’t get swayed by brand names. Focus on clubs that feel good in your hands and suit your swing.
3. Consider Growth Potential
Choose a set that you can grow into as your skills improve. Avoid ultra-basic sets that you’ll quickly outgrow.
4. Seek Professional Advice
Golf pros or experienced players can provide valuable insights and recommendations tailored to your needs.
5. Buy Used if Necessary
If you're unsure about committing to new equipment, consider purchasing a quality used set. Many stores offer certified pre-owned clubs at a fraction of the cost.
How to Maintain Your Clubs
Once you've invested in your first set, proper care will extend their lifespan and performance:
Clean Regularly: Wipe down clubheads after every round and clean grooves with a soft brush.
Store Properly: Keep clubs in a dry, temperature-controlled area to prevent rust or warping.
Use Headcovers: Protect the driver and woods with headcovers to avoid scratches.
Best Beginner Golf Club Brands
Several brands cater to beginners with affordable, forgiving, and reliable sets. Popular options include:
Callaway Strata: Known for its affordability and quality.
Wilson Profile: Offers sets tailored to different heights and skill levels.
Tour Edge Bazooka: Provides forgiving clubs for new players.
Cobra Fly-XL: Lightweight and user-friendly.
TaylorMade RBZ SpeedLite: A premium choice for beginners looking for advanced features.
Conclusion
Choosing the right golf club set as a beginner is about finding a balance between comfort, performance, and budget. By understanding the basics, considering key factors, and seeking expert advice, you’ll be well on your way to selecting a set that helps you build confidence and enjoy the game. Remember, your first set doesn’t have to be perfect—what matters is that it fits your needs and makes the game accessible and fun. So grab your clubs, hit the course, and let the adventure begin!
