Walked down to the shop today to be greeted by one of the most breathtaking flowers I had ever seen. "Echinopsis spachiana" as it's known among enthusiasts, the "Golden Torch Cactus" blooms nocturnally once a year and only lasts for 24hours, from one sunset to the following one. Most things in life are temporary, but only some things leave you with a perpetual feeling. The fruit from that first #EchinopsisSpachiana flower broke open! Supposedly that’s when you know they’re ripe but honestly it’s so hot out I think this one was starting to dry out. Looked like some ants were enjoying it too. #Cactus Bloom Sequence! Swipe to see the #EchinopsisSpachiana / #GoldenTorchCactus from when I first noticed the buds on June 22nd to a second bud starting to enlarge the last time I photographed it on July 15th. It began to open July 10th, opened on the 11th, and began to decay/turn to fruit on the following day. Getting to see the bloom at different times of the day has been one of the best silver linings to the COVID lockdown. I hope everyone else has had the opportunity to spend some time in nature, even if that’s just the backyard, in the past several weeks. Maybe when this is over we’ll have a better appreciation for little things like this & wont just dive right back into the old rat race.
