Understanding your materials is very important. This is a test to try to determine the optimal absorbent ground to fluid acrylic ratio. The blue is 1 part acrylic to 5 parts absorbent ground. The red is 1 to 7, and the green is 1 to 10. So far I’m thinking 1 to 7 is the best ratio. Today I’ll be testing out some new panels prepped with a Golden absorbent ground/acrylic mixture. I used orange and teal to create a tinted surfaces so I don’t have to start with white. I’m also going to test out the absorbent ground with matt medium. The bearded hipster study was done with my new Golden QOR watercolor set. So it turns out that if you paint really thick with watercolor on Golden Absorbent Ground, there is a good chance the ground will absorb the binder right out of the paint causing the paint to crack. Unfortunately I found this out the hard way. So now I’m testing the ground mixed with various other mediums (gesso, fluid acrylic, modeling past) to try to find a formula that will we be absorbent but not so absorbent that it causes cracking. . . . #goldenabsorbentground #watercolor #experimenting #testing #art #dedication #painting #cracking
