Why do you think g5 was made into a sequel for g4? It seems very redundant, especially when the mane 6 are never really referenced.

to cash in on the fandom, and nostalgia, of course. which is hilarious because it is objectively a terrible 'sequel' and would stand better on its own merits than with a continuation. It does not honor what came before and makes the protagonists journeys seem worthless due to Equestria being more segregated than it was before its fucking founding. Twilight sparkle was a failed ruler and her legacy was a house of cards. if nothing else, this does show that Celestia was fine, actually, at least the kingdom didn't fall into ruin with her around.

But i've talked about all this before with other asks, and it is def all pretty fucked. if they didn't know how to make a sequel, they should have stuck to what mlp always did and rebooted and remixed.
