well over the course of being snowed in, I’ve caught up on One Piece and JJK 🫠 and now I need a new thing to read!
(if you make a very compelling case for a manga you’d think I’d be in to, I’ll consider it)

HOW MANY manga stories do you follow every day/week/month ????
Hey Anon ! Checking my calendar, this goes like this :
Weekly :
One Piece ; Boy's Abyss
Monthly :
Ao no Exorcist ; Gokurakugai (around the 3rd of each month)
Kuroshitsuji (the 18th of each month)
Witch Hat Atelier (around the 20th-24th of each month)
Majo to Yajuu (on hiatus for a little over a year, due to the mangaka being sick, but usually around the 22nd)
Vinland Saga (around the 25th of each month)
Release every two weeks or so :
Akatsuki no Yona ; Chainsawman ; Spy x Family
Unpredictable release :
Berserk continuation, by Mori
Tsui no Taimashi - Ender Geister (weekly release on Sunday, but fan translation and access to raws are unpredictable)
Kinou Nani Tabeta ; Hokuhokusei ni Kumo to Ike ; Otona ni Nattemo (I read when new volumes get released in English)
Choujin X (I catch up every now and then)
Currently discovering :
Recently, I started Sousou no Frieren and also tried Vanitas no Carte's first chapters (@grelleswife ;)), but new series ask me for a lot more focus than series I already know, so it always depends on how I'm faring with my irl work (typically, I know I need to really take more time to understand VnC, especially since I'm naturally biased about any stories with vampire characters).
Additional rereading (I'm always rereading one series or another) :
Still going through my One Piece first rereading (currently stuck in Wano since December).
Otherwise, in January I reread Pierre Bottero's entire multiverse (about a dozen French fantasy books, I'm on the last one called "Les âmes croisées") and for the last 15 days, I've been rereading Akatsuki no Yona (caught up yesterday to the latest released chapter).
Since yesterday, I also started rereading Dorohedoro because two friends showed recent interest in it and I wanted refresh my memory in order to discuss this with them.
My 2024 plans are also to continue my TG reread that I started two years ago (lmao) and to reread Kuroshitsuji to prepare for Ciel & Seb's investigation. Gosh and I also want to reread Golden Kamuy, Chihayafuru and Blade of the Immortal. T_T
Rereading is really something I do on a whim though, so it's not like I can really be sure of what I'll reread next. Usually, it's driven by recent and important plot twist and unraveling. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Have a good day, Anon. :)

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let's spread the self-love 💞
Omg thank you for the ask!!! 💕 Damn, I don't know which to really choose. I take so long to write anything that I find it hard to judge things; and especially as then years have gone by regarding my posted and finished fanfics it makes me difficult to choose. For fanfics I really have a bunch of fandoms I've periodically cobbled something together (as a result each fic rec is from a different show) and many I haven't read in years; but I've quite enjoyed the chance to go back and actually read them.
#1 - Blackbird series (Trigun (Trimax), Vashwood)
Ahhh this doesn't count as two right? It's my most recent work composed of Blackbird (M, 5.5k) and I'm no pale faced saint (E, 11k) both which I really enjoyed writing. Blackbird is vignettes of Vash and Wolfwoods relationship (if they were lovers) over the course of trimax. I'm no pale faced saint is a story tucked sometime within the same au when Wolfwoods and Vash are travelling, and during their stop Wolfwoods is asked to perform a funeral; later the two of them talk about promises in amongst foreshadowing of what will later occur and sexy times. It was also the first time I forayed into writing explicit fanfic which was certainly interesting and perhaps fun? Still not sure haha. Both are pretty bittersweet. Technically it's supposed to be a triptych, with a third and final installation which I've... not finished writing. Fingers crossed I'll get around to having some time to finish it eventually... It's all planned out so I just need to sit down and write the damned thing.
#2 - Tracing Ink on Skin (JJK, Satosugu, M, 34k)
A yakuza au fic that I'm still working on, that I originally started because there was none of those fics when the first season had come out. The premise is they were schoolmates, and lose touch after, Satoru the next in line for the head of one of the big Yakuza families, only to be reunited when Suguru finds Satoru bleeding out on his doorstep. I'm reccing it cause it's a bit newer. It's also my first long fic which is exciting but also haunts me a bit since it's also definitely not a priority, since I keep neglecting to write new chapters... shoves my 10 newer WIP fanfics into the drawer guiltily. Again I've got the whole thing planned out, I just need to actually write it. Also part of me wants to rewrite some areas, ack!
#3 - Chain Restaurants and the Beginnings of Friendship (Dorohedoro, Risu x Aikawa, T, 3.5k)
Also in the scheme of things newer... Premise is the two of them go for lunch right after Aikawa kills the teacher. I like this one with it's fun twist and actually intended it as a part of a series of short vignettes, as I had more ideas... as you can see I'm great at finishing things. I've heard there's supposed to be a second season of Dorohedoro coming out which might help kick me back into the mood. I really should trawl through my WIP files...
#4 - Warm Lights on Sleepless Nights. (Golden Kamuy, SugumotoxOgata, G, 3k)
Premise is it's a vignette of a modern au of Sugumoto essentially waking up from a nightmare, and remembering the time that Ogata was also awake at the same time before his betrayal, and the possible implications of that.
#5 - Antiform Haunting (Gotham, Edward Nygma x Oswald Cobblepot, T, 3k)
Premise is on some unseen scenes after Ed betrays Oswald, and dreams of him, leading up to the scene where Ed hallucinates Ed. I liked this one better then the other, softer fic I had written on the pair, which more people seemed to have enjoyed; how funny.
I'm ignoring how clearly all the pairs I write for are tragic character relationships (or perceived relationships lol) here. Nope, I don't know what you're talking about, I totally am not addicted to bittersweet or sad writing.

Biweekly Media Roundup
- Avatar: The Way of the Water (Movie) - My brother was hyped to see this so I went with him in my first theater going experience in a while. I’m not really qualified to talk about the problematic politics of the film, so personally my pros were stunning visual effects and environments, interesting alien designs and lore, and some fun whale bonding, while my cons were the dragged out length (especially in the extended whale hunting and ending action scene), mostly flat characterization, and some weird character decisions regarding the character “Spider” and the way people interact with him. I do think this was a bit better than the first one since the focus was on the alien characters and the Ocean tribe was a bit more interesting than the forest one, so I’m glad I saw it, though it’s more of a spectacle than a lasting experience. So uh in short I don’t care much for the story but I’d love to see the concept art designs.
- Glass Onion (Movie) - I’m not really sure what I expected from this but I liked it quite a bit. It kept me guessing on the mystery, I liked the protagonist, there's some fun dialogue, and who doesn’t appreciate a “fuck the rich” message. You don’t have to see the first one to watch it so if you’re in the mood for a fun mystery check it out. I don’t say this about most things but I’d be cool with this becoming a franchise, just Blanc solving various mystery’s and humiliating rich assholes in his funky little outfits.
- Chainsaw Man (Anime) - It’s so good to finally find another show that fits in with the flavor of weirdo casts as JJBA, Golden Kamuy, Dorohedoro and the like. I genuinely don’t know where the plot is going next which makes for a great watching experience, and so far I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how much I like each new freak they introduce to the main cast. Makima still has my heart as the gaslight gatekeep girlboss that she is, and the Devil designs are really cool, I can’t wait for the season finale tonight.
- Spy X Family (Anime) - Definitely one of my favorite anime this year, super wholesome, lovable characters, great comedy and reaction faces, stunning animation, this show’s got it all. My one complaint is that some of the more over the top side characters really overstayed their welcome but for the most part the cast was very solid and I could definitely see myself doing a rewatch in the near future for some easy catharsis.
- Mob Psycho 100 (Anime) - The end of an Era, Mob is definitely one of my fave animes of all time and some of the best messaging and best written child characters I’ve ever seen, I’m going to miss it but I’m glad it stayed strong to the end and wrapped up in a thematically cohesive way. Cheesy as it is I believe that the excellent execution of Mob’s “deep rooted message of self acceptance and self worth that tears down the ideology that only ‘naturally talented’ people have a place in society and instead gives worth to everyone regardless of who they are because it is our impact on our fellow people and our ability to be a good person that truly matters” (as the Shrek meme says) has made me a happier person. 10/10 essential watching for all anime fans.
- Project Eden’s Garden (Video Game) - Several youtubers I like put out reviews and or/ playthroughs of this fanmade Danganronpa game, so I did a watch through of the prologue. It’s intriguing so far, I like a lot of the character designs and had fun trying to figure out their animal influences, and thought the writing was pretty solid for a setup. I’ll defenitely watch more when it comes out, Danganronpa isn’t for everyone but I always have fun trying to predict each cases victim/killer and I doubt this’ll change that.
- The S Classes That I Raised (TV) - Trying to resist the urge to just read the webnovel given how much joy I find in the weekly updates but I’m pretty into this one right now, very excited to see what new little creatures Han Yoojin will befriend.
- Sense8 (TV) - Started this old supernatural drama about 8 people living all over the world whose minds become psychically linked. It is very interesting to see the diverse stories set across various cultures and with 8 separate plots happening there’s always something interesting in each episode. I do wish there were less sex, like I’m not sex negative or anything but uh I’m here for the plot and there's just a lot of sex scenes that make watching it with my sibling a little awkward. My favorite stories so far are Nomis, Suns, and Capheus while Rileys and Wolfgangs are a little eh.
- Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint (Webnovel) - I would fit right into the world of ORV because much like all the characters in it I cannot stop thinking about Kim Dokja and how badly I simultaneously want to punch him in the face and give him a hug. Stupid little rat boy.
I also watched Hook (movie), Predestination (movie), Groundhog Day (Movie), along with my normal amount of various youtube videos.
Listening to: Holy Water by Michael Ray, Hell’s Coming With Me by Poor Man’s Poison, Red Flags by Tom Cardy, Rasen by jon-YAKITORY, Waiting On A Miracle (Encanto OST), Soon You’ll Get Better, New Romantics, and Anti-Hero by Taylor Swift, I Really Wish I Hated You by Blink 182, Fallout by Marianas Trench, Shoutout to My Ex by Little Mix, Lent by Autoheart, Therefore You and Me by si-o, History Hates Lovers by Oublaire, Tot Musica by Ado

ADazzlingGirl's Top Original Anime 2020
Despite the circumstances and having lots of free time, I haven’t watched too much anime this year? However, I have watched a few gems, and my 2018 post sometimes randomly gets a few notes every now and then, so I thought I’d point out some original Anime that came out this year that I recommend people watch! That means no season 2/3/whatever of stuff that’s already come out (like Haikyuu, Golden Kamuy, Fruits Basket, etc). This is my personal opinion based on what I’ve watched, and is not in any particular order of preference (although I’ve TRIED to group it based on season). (Also none of these gifs are mine I found them on Tumblr, and they are all gorgeous)
Toilet-bound Hanako-kun (Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun)
Tumblr media
This was an adorable show, although I know I definitely need to read the manga because I feel like it teased to good bits later but the anime didn’t get to them. This show is about a young girl called Yashiro who wants to confess to the boy she likes, and asks for the help of a toilet spirit from her school who turns out to be this cheeky, mysterious boy. It is kind of childish but with a subtle darkness that I want to know more of!
Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! (Eizouken ni wa te wo dasu na!)
Tumblr media
Eizouken is a very funny and beautiful show about 3 girls in an animation club! It shows a lot of the effort that goes into coming up with scenarios for anime and crunching time to get things done.
Dorohedoro
Tumblr media
This anime was nuts? My friend recommended I watch it and I was like ‘Hang on why is there a dude with a lizard head wait what’s happening’. I really like the mystery of this lizard dude trying to find out what happened to him, and all the other characters, and it’s another one where I’ve heard the manga is very good, so I’d love to read it! However be warned although it is very funny, it can also be a bit gruesome if you are squeamish.
Tower Of God (Kami No Tou)
Tumblr media
I really enjoyed Tower of God! The pacing was nice and fast without being overwhelming (I know they were trying to cover lots of ground with the amount of webtoon material that they didn’t scratch the surface of) and I really liked the main characters and the shounen-like battles and humour. The world is also very interesting and I am excited for more and to see what becomes of Bam.
Kakushigoto
Tumblr media
At first I was put off from the premise of this show: A father hiding his dirty manga from his young daughter? Gross. BUT I gave it a chance because I saw someone I follow somewhere recommend it, and I’m really glad I did. It’s SO cute and funny, the dad’s manga isn’t really shown other than a dude with tights on his head, and the interactions between the two are innocent and very cute, and their interactions with the rest of the father’s manga drawing team are also very funny.
Appare Ranman!
Tumblr media
Not going to lie, I only watched this anime because I heard Hanae Natsuki was going to be playing the main character, but I liked it more than I thought I would! The premise is very predictable, as it’s just a group of people participating in a race across America, with a bad guy trying to stop them. But I really liked the humour and all the characters and and the relationships between them, especially the little found family between Appare-Kosame-Hototo.
Gymnastics Samurai (Taiso Zamurai)
Tumblr media
Taiso Zamurai is another one I only watched because I’ve recently been getting into voice actors, and it has Namikawa Daisuke, Kaji Yuki and Ono Kensho in it, but again, I don’t regret it. This anime is bizare. It’s technically a sports anime about a man who looks like a samurai doing gymnastics, but it involves ninjas and this weird looking blue bird. The anime mainly focuses on the family aspects between Jotaro (the samurai), Leo (the ninja) and Rei (Jotaro’s daughter), which is adorable. Just kind of expect a family drama instead of a sports anime haha.
This year has been difficult, but I hope these recommendations can provide an entertaining distraction and stress relief like they have for me!

Right???? I really loved Golden Kamuy a lot, I found the story compelling and the characters interesting (and it was really really funny at times???) but man yeah sometimes the animation just sucked straight up
the animation team on gk just cut like half of the story out and tried to rush to the haha funny moments and everything failed poorly. I also didnt make sense to have such mixed cgi/cell animation. If they had truly wanted to do more cgi, it's still possible to have balanced the two. I think dorohedoro is the current best example of that.
the gk animation removed all the soul and emotion captured in the manga especially when its known for some of the best facial features I've ever seen drawn in my life. It makes me so sad that it wasnt given a better adaptation when it deserves so much more credit especially for being a manga that has encapsulated so much ainu culture.

I might repost this at a better time of day but since its been a while i thought id update on my interests in a post in case folks want to unfollow.
I am significantly less into JJBA now but its still fine (im way behind on p8 too)
I got into Bandori, Fate (just the stuff with waver), and especially Promare since not being around here as much, tho my Promare craze is dying down a lil now
I am now currently mainly into: Promare, Enstars, Hades, and Genshin Impact (at least atm)
I also still watch the good seasonal animes, ones I particularly like(d) recently are Dorohedoro, Fire Force, Golden Kamuy, Dr Stone, Haikyuu, Great Pretender, and Jujutsu Kaisen. I havent read the manga for any of these except Haikyuu and Golden Kamuy, but I’m behind on both of them, so no spoilers on any of these pls!
Also, I started watching Detective Conan (plot eps only) as a covid passtime. Currently at ep 364. Probably wont post about it much though.

I sometimes feel bad about not caring about a lot of things made by women as far as manga/ anime goes? Like the entire shoujo genre save for a select few series... I just..... could care less. I don’t care about romance in the things I read or watch at all, regardless of genre and I always end up rolling my eyes and lose interest. I barely read BL because it’s usually so bland anyway but then Bara is there...... ORZ. Gay men are the ones who usually produce Bara btw. The romance in Shounen are always bland and “forced” because guys can’t write romance apparently and it’s just too gushy whenever I’d read something like a shoujo and I gag at lovey dovey stuff when it starts to happen in something that I like UNLESS I could SEE the ship myself like they have to be meant for each other for me to care... I sound like a hypocrite since I have ships and OC’s with their romance blooming but it’s like, I don’t feel like I want to gag because I have control over how I WRITE them and how I establish my AU’s if that makes sense. It’s dumb... Not that romances is a girly thing, I just used that as an example but I just don’t really care for the genre. I do love romance if it’s DIFFERENT though? Like if there’s an “odd couple” waiting to happen than I’m definitely game... those are usually super adorable and natural feeling to me. I’m more of a gore/ slice of life/ comedy/ and mature content type of person.... especially the depressing settings in a dystopian series. Also, anything with dark/ black humor is so good......... I’m glad that I started reading Dorohedoro because it’s such a type for me........ I love sketchy art styles like that and it’s a dark series written by a Woman. Queen..... I wished that more people wouldn’t automatically assume that a guy wrote every single non conforming thing though. Like, I’m pretty sure that a lot of people still think that a guy wrote Dorohedoro just because it’s “dark” and is “gorey” and doesn’t look like it was drawn by a “woman,” at least to them because it’s not shoujo. Most female mangaka are technically sound when it comes to writing dark and meaningful things to me so they usually always pull these sort of genres off. I also dislike Shounen... I only care about a handful and most of them are because of nostalgia anyway. Everything’s so run of the mill and by the book to me now and the most basic shit could become mainstream over something like a for example, a Golden Kamuy... (its seinen But stilll) it’s annoying... Naruto was good... no matter how hard people rag on it, it’s made it’s mark but it wasn’t BASIC either unlike the stuff you’d see today... I cried over Naruto so much and it made me feel bad that it got to the point where people were pretending to act like they had a “cringy naruto phase” as if liking the series was something to be ashamed of, even in 2018. I don’t even remember the fandom being that bad as it grew through the internet ages since the anime came out back when a lot of people didn’t have internet or were just starting to use the internet. I’m glad that people still like it. It makes me happy seeing people in 2018, watch Naruto for the first time and posting their fanart for. It’s so wholesome, lol? I was there back when it first started to air on toonami back in 2005 or 6 and the rest was history lmfao. It was one of the few to shine through back then. I still never cared for DBZ with the exception of a few characters that I still adore. Nostalgia plays a big part on why so many people dick ride it till this day as if it’s the only manga/ anime to ever exist and the writing was never like, mindblowing or anything... Fanboys ruined the experience of actually looking back on it fondly for me. I’m veering off but yeah...

Pick of the Week: Strike Up the Band!
MICHELLE: I have read very few light novels and, to be honest, very few appeal to me. Sound! Euphonium is an exception, though. It’s about a high-school band—the kind with cumbersome brass instruments—and looks cute!
SEAN: Lots of my favorites, including Dorohedoro and Kitaro, and I’m also interested in Golden Kamuy. But like Michelle, my pick this week is definitely Sound! Euphonium. It’s not the sort of title you see translated to English at all, and I really want to see it succeed. Plus, brass band!
KATE: Is there a manga of Sound! Euphonium? Because I’d read that in a heartbeat. Until that arrives on bookshelves, I’m going to plug Golden Kamuy, a manly-man adventure in the vein of Kazuo Koike. The story takes place on the Hokkaido frontier in the waning days of the Russo-Japanese War. Though Golden Kamuy is violent — OK, really violent — it’s got a gonzo plot and great characters. Oh, and bears. Hungry ones. Here’s my two cents on volume one.
ASH: Wow! There are so many things being released this week that I’m interested in that it’s hard to choose just one. As for ongoing series, Dorohedoro is always high on my list, as is Kitaro. I’m really curious to see how Erased continues to develop, too. As for the debuts, I’m with everyone else so far–it’s Sound! Euphonium and Golden Kamuy for me!
ANNA: Thanks to Kate’s review, I’m definitely curious about Golden Kamuy. Manly adventure manga set in Hokkaido sounds like a fun summer diversion.
MELINDA: Add me to the Sound! Euphonium crowd, here! I’m interested in many of these (especially the second volume of Erased), and Kate’s mention of bears intrigues the John Irving fan in me, but for once, a novel is sounding the most appealing. I figure I should go with that and give it a try!
