Mini VITD Sims Lookbook (Largely Alice Focused Edition)
Hi all -- I ended up downloading and playing with some more Victorian and Victorian-esque CC for Sims 4 last Saturday, looking for some new looks for my Valicer In The Dark versions of Victor, Alice, and Smiler (mainly Alice, as per the title). And, as I'm still getting the next Chill Valicer Save update ready, I figured I'd share the results, in case any of you were interested/wanted some more CC to download! Here we go:
First up, we actually have something that I downloaded from someone’s lookbook post for their Alice Sim a little while ago (I'm afraid I don't remember whose at this point ^^;) – a conversion of Alice’s London dress from Alice: Madness Returns! As in, one Mimoto-Sims ripped this dress straight from the files of that game (along with a bunch of others) and turned it into an outfit in Sims 4! :D I’ve been looking for this for a while, and I’m quite pleased with it, though it is a little weirdly shiny – and if you think Alice suddenly looks a LOT thinner than usual in this dress, she is. Apparently I didn’t make my Sim Alice underweight enough! I think I prefer my Sims 4 version having a waist that doesn’t look like it could snap in half at any moment, though. XD
Okay, onto the CC I actually downloaded on Saturday, with Alice modeling the Ever Elegant Blouse v2 and the Rather Ravishing Skirt v2 from Gilded Ghost’s New Woman set! I ended up pairing these two together because, with the apron, I thought this made another good “maid” Alice outfit – though she looks like she’s working somewhere fancier than Houndsditch in this set, that’s for sure. (Now I’m tempted for her to somehow get her hands on a maid’s outfit from the Van Dort estate when her and Smiler’s attempt to return Victor to his parents ends up in them robbing them for being shitheads who don’t care about their son...) But it’s a nice look for her, and I am THRILLED that this and the other tops from that set worked with her necklace! :D Seriously, so many outfits hide that necklace, and given that it’s suppose to be her wearing Lizzie’s room key, I’d like it to be visible more often than not!
Case in point, the necklace is also visible in this outfit, which is Alice wearing the Jacket Jubilee top with the Perfectly Plain skirt from the New Woman set. This set I just thought looked nice on her, and made a nice – semi-formal? This feels fancier than casual, but not fancy enough to be formal. Like, maybe this is something she’d wear if the gang were heading to the Golden Plum for a nice dinner, or to a park for a trio date. That sort of thing. Not “fancy neighborhood” wear, but a step above hanging around the house.
By contrast, Alice is definitely not leaving the house in this outfit. XD This is dzifasims’s Bespoke Corset, paired with a plain Get Famous skirt that I thought looked like a shift or underskirt (I thought the corset CAME with one, but apparently I was mistaken). It’s nice to have a plainer corset that doesn’t look like it was bought for sex purposes, unlike the base game one. Though I do like the “bought for sex purposes” one too. XD Alice probably prefers this one, though – it’s more her style, and I think it makes good underwear for her.
Onto the masc stuff, with Smiler showing off pandorasimbox’s Azariah’s Sacksuit. I have mixed feelings on this – the basic shape of the suit is okay, and I liked pairing it with the bowler, but as per usual this suit did not have any of the right swatches I needed for Smiler. The problem is, people do a lot of muted colors for Victorian-style clothes, and even the ones that include brighter swatches tend not to do a lot of yellow. Meaning I often end up with poor Smiler wearing beige because that’s as close as I can get. *sigh* I mean, I do rather like the look on them – they kind of look like they’re auditioning for a Charlie Chaplin movie – but it’s gotta be BRIGHTER, you know? *sigh* I gotta learn how to recolor clothes... (Also, amusingly, the boots are actually from Moschino – they actually look Victorian enough when you cover up the tops with a long pant.)
Fortunately, while [LonelyBoy]’s TS4 Solardius Outfit doesn’t have a yellow swatch, it DOES have a black swatch with gold decorative details, and that I can work with – especially when paired with the High School Years shoes I love so much for Smiler in the “black with yellow stitching” swatch. :) Not sure how much I like the high collar on Smiler, but this is certainly not a bad look for them!
And it CERTAINLY isn’t a bad look for Victor, who suits that high collar much better. XD As you can see, Victor got the nice dark blue swatch with the red tie, which is kind of the inverse of his tie/vest color scheme in the movie. XD But it suits him, and again, this seems like a nice, semi-formal outfit he might wear for an outing with his partners where he wanted to look a little more put together. :)
And there you have it – me playing with my favorite trio like dolls again. XD What can I say, it’s fun to dress them up in new outfits! And these particular sessions help inform me of what I’d like my trio to wear in the Valicer In The Dark universe. Since, you know, I’m pretty well obsessed with that these days. XD So don’t @ me, downloading CC is writing research, okay? Okay. :p
#sims 4#cas looks#fashion#victor van dort#alice liddell#smiler alton#valicer in the dark au#well appropriate that I had this in the queue after getting that ask about Valicer multichapter fics#and me talking about the first fic in the VITD series that I'm working on XD#but yes more fun with CC clothes#I really do like Alice's outfits#that's an excellent conversion of her canonical dress#I have taken a turn toward preferring Maxis Match stuff but I will make an exception there#and her new dresses and corset fit her very well#and Smiler and Victor are rocking the Solardius suit#particularly Victor who looks very nice in that shade of blue#aw but the sack suit#I really DO need to learn how to do clothing recolors#there's so much stuff that would suit Smiler so well if it came in the right swatches!#who do I have to pay to add bright yellow and yellow-and-black stripes to everything#no more of this beige nonsense Smiler needs to be LOUD AND PROUD#...also someone explain to me how jewelry works in this game and why some tops hide necklaces and others don't#I genuinely don't understand :(#Sims 4 you are confusing#queued

Golden jubilee of the first (unintentional) flight of the F-16, the "Flight Zero"
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 01/20/2024 - 14:39in History, Military
In a proof of its longevity and adaptability, the legendary F-16 Fighting Falcon is today celebrating the 50th anniversary of its first unintentional flight at Edwards Air Base, the so-called "Zero Flight", an event that has since solidified its place in the history of aviation.
This iconic jet fighter, initially a test demonstrator known as the YF-16, inadvertently ascended to the skies during an unplanned takeoff during high-speed taxi tests on January 20, 1974, with test pilot Phil Ostricher at the controls. Subsequently, the fighter made his first official flight on February 2, 1975, marking the beginning of his famous career.

The jet came out victorious in the Light Fighter competition, paving the way for its development as the next air combat fighter of the U.S. Air Force. The F-16A achieved combat-ready status in October 1980 and, since then, the aircraft has been adopted by several other countries for its air forces, reinforcing its status as an icon of global aviation.
To celebrate these first 50 years of the F-16 fighter flight, Edwards Air Base announced a celebration to honor the aircraft's historical past and its continuous relevance. Scheduled for January 25, 2024, the celebration will feature overflights of F-16 jets and more than 40 aircraft of the type on the ground, in addition to the presence of renowned military personnel, including the pilot credited for the first victory in air combat of the F-16, retired General Gary 'Nordo' North.
The 416º Flight Test Squadron will host the celebration, presenting a variety of attractions that amplify the legacy of this legendary aircraft. Precision aerial screenings of the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and the Air Combat Command Viper Demonstration Team will be held on Edwards base, while static displays of several F-16 models, including the F-16XL, the first F-16B, the X-62A Vista and memorabilia that will provide a close insight into the aircraft's progression over the years.
Not only a show, the event will also feature STEM simulators and educational activities, fostering the interest of the next generation in aviation and technology.
Over the decades, more than 4,600 F-16 jets have left the production line and, although the U.S. Air Force has ceased its own acquisitions, Lockheed Martin continues to meet international demand. Famous for its balance between performance and cost-effectiveness, the capabilities of the F-16 have made it a pillar of the air forces around the world.
The latest versions feature powerful unique engines and an impressive variety of weapon compatibilities, all while maintaining the agility that first propelled him to the center of defense attention. With advanced updates such as the AESA radar, the F-16s, such as the Block 70 model, continue to evolve, ensuring that aircraft that previously flew involuntarily will continue to do so purposefully in the coming years.
The latest F-16 fighter delivered so far is an F-16 Block 70 to the Slovak Air Force on January 10 of this year.

Okay Lovejoy EP thoughts and ratings
I think it’s a banger and has a very different vibe to Pebble Brain and Are you alright, like Pebble Brain is so light blue and Are you alright is so burgundy and Wake Up & It’s Over is very black with maybe dark red highlights yknow. If that makes any sense
It’s a lot gritter compared to the other two, and I do like it, especially the songs where they lean more into the heavier aspect with more guitar and bass since I feel the vibe and that style work best together. Consequences felt a bit more like an Are you alright song and Golden Hour felt a bit more like a Pebble Brain song, whereas Call me what you like, Scum, Warsaw, and Portrait of a blank slate all felt like their own new style progression
I liked it :D

The Mainz Psalter 14 August 1457
This is one of only ten copies known of the second book to be printed by the system of movable metal type, the first being the Gutenberg Bible, printed in Mainz 1453-5. The Windsor copy is one of the six surviving 'short issues'; the Psalter was printed in two lengths, the longer ones (of 175 leaves, of which 4 copies survive) specifically for the diocese of Mainz, the shorter ones for more general use. It is also the first book known to have been printed in red and black. This was done with a single pull of the press, the type to be printed in red having been inked separately from the black and reinserted into the same forme (the locked frame holding the prepared type). This process meant that the two colours would be in perfect register, without any unsightly overlaps. The large two-colour initials (e.g. the large initial C) were printed from woodblocks by a similar method, the block for the letter being separable from the block for the surrounding pattern. By contrast, the large blue, red and black capitals (e.g. the blue E in Ecce iam noctis, f. 97v, or the red N in Nocte surgentes, f. 98r) were inscribed, as were some of the rubrics (words in red, usually instructions to the celebrant, or catchwords to help him find his way about the page). The music, and the words to accompany the music, were also added in manuscript. The scribe responsible wrote a beautifully even hand, which has been suggested as the model for the type, so closely do they correspond.
Printed in Mainz by Johann Fust and Peter Schoeffer.
Catalogue entry from Royal Treasures, A Golden Jubilee Celebration, London 2002 Provenance Monastery of St Ursula, Hildesheim; from which bought by Friedrich Wilhelm von Duve (1707-85), 1758; from whom bought by Göttingen University, 1782; by whom presented to George III, 1800 (£400 reimbursed, 1817)

Top, screen capture from the Sky News live coverage of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, London, June 5, 2022. So a hologram of the queen drove through London in a golden carriage today. And people waved at it. They waved at a hologram. Via. Bottom, Jimmie Durham, Stoning the Refrigerator, 1996. Photograph by Maria Thereza Alves. Via. Watch. "St. Frigo" is a sculpture Durham made in 1996 while doing an artist residency in France. By throwing stones at an old refrigerator every morning for ten days in the courtyard of Le Collège Gallery in Reims, Durham physically transformed the appliance from what he described as a “neutral” everyday object into a valuable and unique sculpture, saving it from the rubbish bin. Durham made an experimental video of this ritual titled "Stoning the Refrigerator". Later commenting that the refrigerator had been “brave,” Durham decided to call the sculpture St. Frigo, as if it were a martyred saint.

In the end, you stay there like everyone else, pretending to busy yourself; you convince yourself of this extremity by the resources of artifice, since it is less absurd to simulate life than to live it.
E.M. Cioran, from A Short History of Decay (Bréviaire des vaincus), 1949. Via.

There was a recompense in memories too. Recall the bewilderment and ache, the longing for a thing that’s out of reach, and you can begin to repair your present condition. [He] believed that memory was the faculty of absolution. Men developed memories to ease their disquiet over things they did as men. The deep past is the only innocence and therefore necessary to retain. The boy in the sorghum fields, the boy learning names of animals and plants. He would recall exactingly. He would work the details of that particular day … These early memories were a fiction in the sense that he could separate himself from the character, maintain the distance that lent a pureness to his affection. How else could men love themselves but in memory, knowing what they know? But it was necessary to get the details right. His innocence depended on this, on the shapes and colors of this device he was building, this child’s model of a rainy day … He had to remember correctly.
Don DeLillo, from The Names, 1983. Via.

The uncanny entails another thinking of beginning: the beginning is already haunted. The uncanny is ghostly. It is concerned with the strange, weird and mysterious, with a flickering sense…of something supernatural. The uncanny involves feelings of uncertainty, in particular regarding the reality of who one is and what is being experienced. Suddenly one’s sense of oneself…seems strangely questionable.

Drawing Hearts Chapter 1
So this is my first fanfic ever. English is not my first language but I am trying, I do have a second part to this so I'll eventually post it. Hope it's well liked? Non of the gifs or pics belong to me btw.
(Y/N) POV
(Y/N) was a Goner. In only been here for a short amount of time and yet she where already swooning. That pretty cute guy with a adorable fanged smile, Bright golden eyes and the most beautiful complexion of blue. Kurt Wagner. Aka Nightcrawler, the adorable X-Men that had stolen her heart in days with his shy smile and adorable ways. (Y/N) could just imagine herself in his arms all day and just staring at his smile.
"Ugh...I sound like a creep"
She grumbled as she stared down at the most recent sketch of the Mutant. It was a simple sketch, One she had done rather quickly of Kurt when he was in her perch like position and tail swaying behind him. (Y/N) always thought he looked bad ass like this.
(Y/N) stared at the small picture and sighed softly. 'Why would he, A X-Men of all people even glance your way? You don't have a cool mutation. You aren't some model... You're... Just you' She thought softly before sighing in utter defeat. Just picking up her pencil to continue her art.
Once finished with her sketch and some light shading she scribbled down a fast and small little 'Love letter' next to the sketch. Pouring her little heart out through the words before smiling proudly, she had done this with all the little pictures of Kurt she drew... yes there where quite a few in this sketchbook alone. Making a small little poem, Note, Letter or whatever else next to the sketch. Almost like she was able to speak to him through these words.
Satisfied she set the book to her left to grab her bag. In a matter of seconds there was a small gust of wind and when she turned to grab her book.... It was Gone...
"What. The. Fuck!?"
~•~•~•~
Kurt POV
Kurt was in Love.
He tried so much to hide his feelings and try to psych himself out of it, But it was far too late for that.
In the short few weeks that (Y/N) had arrived she had already stolen his heart, Without even having to say a single word. Her simple smiles and pleasant waves was all that was needed for his knees to feel week, That kind look in her (Y/C) eyes was all it took in that moment for him to fall under her spell and his heart skip.
"Wow, You got it bad don't ya?" Peter said with a snicker as he watched his blue friend pout from the lunchroom table as he stared out the nearest window where (Y/N) was sitting sketching in her book. Kurt groaned softly as he placed his face down on the table, Ignoring the snickers of his friends next to him, Jubilee rubbing his back as a small act of comfort.
"You should just go talk to her. She seems really nice" Jean said softly as she leaned against Scott who was smirking as his miserable Friend. "Yeah. I haven't seen anyone talk to her yet so I imagine it will be welcomed"
Kurt just shook his head softly from his position "Nein...I don't know her, I vill chust scare her avay"
Kurt said softly. His spade tipped tail droping as he sulked and didn't look up from his face full of table. The small group sighed at this as they wanted to cheer up their friend. Peter stood up however rather Quietly which was unusual from him. He grabbed a hand full of chips shoving them in his mouth and slid down his goggles
"My Time, Has Come"
The Silver haired speedster said with a grin before zipping away. Kurt instantly Pulling his head up as he heard this and having a bad feeling. In a matter of a few seconds Peter had returned holding up a well used sketchbook with a grin on his face, Kurt's golden eyes went wide as he instantly recognized what that was.
"Is Zat..."
Peter smiled as he pulled up his goggles with a grin.
"Yes it is Devil Dude. Now, Let's see what she really likes!"
Peter said as he opened the book. The rest of the group now fully catching on to what Peter was holding in his hand.
"That's so Uncool!" Jubilee protest as she shot up to grab the Sketchbook. Knowing that with any girl there was some things that were written that was never ment to be read! Jean also got up to take the book as Well "Peter stop it!" Scott staying oddly silent in all this as he saw the reactions of the girls (He looked through Jeans journal before-)
This seemed to only to strengthen the Speedsters resolve as he started to flick through the book at lightning speed. Kurt also now on edge as this felt wrong.
"Zis isn't right" Kurt said Quickly as he went to snatch the book.
"She likes you!" Peter announced loudly, It was suddenly like a shift Kurt was suddenly next to Peter looking over his shoulders with wide eyes. He stared back at a well done picture of himself, Sitting around with a wide smile on his face like he'd been laughing, A small poem on the side of the drawing. Kurt's cheeks and tips of his ears started to turn lavender as Peter flicked through the many well done pictures of him and the sweet words that went with them.
Kurt was quiet as he stared at the pictures. Blushing more and more as his tail swayed side to side happily like a puppy. Jubilee stepped in and ripped the book from Peter's hands. "Alright that's enough Creeps! I'm gonna return this to (Y/N) before she-" "Vait! I...I can give it back to her" Kurt said, Being surprised by his own sudden boldest for a moment. There where a few raised eyebrows at this before Peter grinned, Jean also looking Hesitant but Scott just smiled. All of them agreeing to this as Jubilee handed the Blue mutant the book who quickly Bamf'ed away.
However he didn't go to where he had last seen (Y/N) instead he appeared in his bedroom. Holding the sketchbook close to his chest before rushing over to his little desk and grabbing an empty spiral notebook and getting to work.

The Royal Bengal Tiger 🐅 is a rather apt emblem for us Bangladeshis. Just like the majestic king of the jungle, we are a hardy bunch! No matter what life throws our way, we know how to be doggedly determined and make our way through to the other side. We are resilient - come rain or shine, we hold our heads high through it all. It is indeed a testament of our indomitable spirit that a country which was once termed a ‘basket case’ is now a model for continuous and sustained development. And this is why, we thought nothing would be more fitting than an illustration of the Royal Bengal Tiger in its element - ready to leap forward and face head on whatever that lies beyond. On the momentous occasion of the Golden Jubilee of independence, it has been a pleasure and honour to collaborate with Standard Chartered Bank on this project to create a limited edition commemorative platinum credit card. Would like to thank SCB for walking the less beaten path and trusting a young-ish digital illustration platform like DhakaYeah with a project of such significance. Hope this will shine a much needed light on the digital illustration industry of Bangladesh and will increase the scope of collaboration between established brands and illustrators. 🇧🇩 To know more about getting hold of this card, please visit the link https://av.sc.com/bd/edm/commemorative-card-launch/ (at Bangladesh) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQ6KVXdsRP7/?utm_medium=tumblr
