I know we r in our yajirobe™ era rn but can we talk about ms chichi ? had an epiphany about her 30 minutes ago thougt id share
shes kinda like marge simpson to me if marge didnt take no prisoners (ever)(will not elaborate). like i remember when she let goku take gohan one time (1) to go see his friends and then her husband DIED and she didn't see her son for like 9 months. and then the next 10 or so years hes just put in perilous situations all the time, none of which she can prevent or protect him from. absolutely insane. I would have gone absolutely insane. The throes of despair id be in.. The feeling of overwhelming helplessness... woman is stronger than any us marine.
LIKE I kinda GET WHY SHE GETS FUSSY AND HAS HANGUPS ABOUT CERTIAN THINGS NOW..... like warnjng goten abt city woman or drilling gohan about his education... DELINQUENTS.... etc etc.. just SOMETHING she could do to protect them even a little bit!! even a little bit!!! working within her limitations yanno
obviously I think if she had like a normal life with a normal spouse and kids she probably wouldn't be this uptight or high-strung (or would she???). But since that's not what she'll ever have, maybe it drives her off the edge a little. That a life where her family is both safe and alive may not be possible after all. I guess its not a surprise that her emotions can often manifest in violent ways. wounded heart :-(
in summary i think chichi should be allowed to smooch any one she wants (mr piccolo) maybe get an all expense paid for trip to iceland or something SHE DESERVES IT!!
fin :-)
MAKES SENSE.
She's crazy because her life has been crazy. Totally understandable!
Most pertinent line: "That a life where her family is both safe and alive may not be possible after all. I guess its not a surprise that her emotions can often manifest in violent ways. wounded heart :-("
Also: "The feeling of overwhelming helplessness... woman is stronger than any us marine."
Feelings of helplessness are something that is so absolutely soul-crushing ... We see several characters speak of it, but in the end they are all able to mobilize in some way to deal with it (Krillin was overwhelmed how everyone was dying when Vegeta showed up; he later went to Namek about it, although he never recovered his shattered sense of competence.) (Everybody was feeling helpless during the Cell shit, and I'm specificlaly thinking about when Tenshinhan decided that dying in battle was better than doing nothing, and he went to face Cell and was able to stave him off for a bit using his Kikoho technique) (....Also thinking about how in the original dragon ball, he was forced immobile by some sort of drug Roshi gave him so that he couldn't risk his life interfering when Roshi faced off with Piccolo Daimao.. and how. Absolutely horrifying. That must have been for him. To not be able to move when all of him was needing to. And how he immediately became committed to Doing Something About Piccolo Daimao as soon as he could mobilize.)
I've definitely been on record as saying that Chichi acts the way she does largely because of how helpless she feels. She is subjected to the same helplessness as everyone else, only she never has any hope of doing anything about it. She just has to yell louder and hope that someone will listen this time.
Interesting stuff. Thank you for your empathy and compassion. It makes life meaningful.
See you next time and everpony stay safe

Well, she felt like teasing her husband a little right now. She couldn't help herself, he was adorable when those cheeks got red.
That's how Goku finds himself with Chi-Chi wrapping her arms around him. Just a little bit below the waist and right under his behind before she was lifting him up in her arms. A bright smile as she does.
"Chi-Chi!?"
The embarrassing startled yelp of his wife's name tumbling from his lips, he'd been so focused on cleaning out the rug from the latest mess during sharing the chores with Chi-Chi he hadn't realized his beloved sneaking up on him, completely oblivious as he'd been working on getting half of the dirt off the rug. Tail faintly curled behind him as it occasionally swished around now and again. His legs nearly buckle beneath him at the strong grip hooking underneath his waist, effortlessly lifting him from the earth and into his wife's arms. His face burns with a bright flush, adrenaline pumping through his body as does the sheer volume of other emotions. He grunts as his weight starts to go against his wife who digs her heels into the ground and moves him, practically manhandling to now hold him in what is essentially the same hold he'd once held her on their wedding day. Eyes wide and a bright red blush burning across his face, the edges of super saiyan flashing amongst his features from his surprise and the pure buzz under his skin. A startled laugh escaping him as he gazes up to her.
"You are going to make me faint one of these days, I'm constantly falling for you." He says through his chuckles.

Fusion Revived - CH 8 (Returning to Normal)
➤ This story is actually complete (finished Sep 2021) over on my Ao3 already; I'm just publishing it here on tumblr too for archival purposes. I hope any and all curious readers enjoy if they haven't checked it out yet!
SUMMARY: Majin Buu has been destroyed, and the Earth has known peace for close to a year now. Life hasn't been too peaceful for the person responsible for saving the world and the entire universe however, but when an ordinary woman meets him one day, things start to change.
RATING: Teen and Up. PAIRING(S): Vegito x OC/Reader, alluded Gochi, alluded Vegebul CONTENT: Canon Divergence, Slow Burn, Friends to Lovers, Family Drama CW(s) THIS CHAPTER: None.
She sat outside in the same spot they were both in four days ago. There was no idyllic ambience this time, no feeling of peace.
She curled in on herself, with her legs hugged by her arms and her head resting against her bent knees. Miserable couldn’t accurately describe the storm that raged on since she spat fire at the women who ruined her happiness for the sake of their own. Worse than that, they stripped away Vegito’s sense of self, reducing him to a state of oblivion for those who made him to be freed.
She hated it, but she understood why they did it.
It was plain to see back at Capsule Corp, and even disregarding that, anyone with even the smallest degree of common sense would know that they rightfully wanted their husbands to come home. The fathers to their children.
They had families, something she couldn’t completely relate to as she’s never had her own. When Chi Chi claimed that she didn’t know what she was talking about, it held water.
But Vegito…did he ever belong to either of THEIR families? Considering what happened, no. He was stuck in a place where he was indelibly connected to both, but he could never and would never be what Goku and Vegeta were. He had the job of being there for his not-wives and sons, but it was one he was destined to grapple with, and ultimately fail at. That didn’t stop him from trying regardless.
Yet, it wasn’t good enough. Forget what she felt, Vegito was the victim here. Thinking of him as such may come off as she viewing him as some poor, defenseless man, when he was light years away from being such. He was able to take down the very manifestation of evil that had haunted the universe for eons with hardly any trouble. If he could do that, then what couldn’t he do? What couldn’t he reach?
That, was where he became a victim. The possibilities of having those questions explored was cruelly ripped away from him.
There wasn’t even a place she could send her prayers to for his spirit to rest. He didn’t exist anymore, but she still wanted to help him somehow. She wanted to bring him back, in a way where Goku and Vegeta didn’t have to disappear themselves. But was that even remotely feasible…?
She didn’t bother keeping track of the time, too stuck in her musings. She did notice when the air changed however, and someone’s presence was close.
She looked up.
Goku was before her, lowering his hand. He didn’t speak right away, choosing to jab his index fingers together as he self-consciously avoided making eye contact.
“…Hi…it’s me. Goku.”
She mustered a half-hearted laugh.
“I know who you are. Hi.”
He drew back, probably anticipating for she to lash out at him or the like. Seeing as she didn’t, he moved forward with no reluctance and crashed down to sit cross-legged. It’s a position she’s seen Vegito do a dozen times.
“Sorry for…bothering you.” The Saiyan maintained a gentle disposition, both in look and sound. It brought her back to the sparse times when Vegito showed her his soft side, before Vegeta’s influence came in and brought the cautiousness back.
So many comparisons she could make, but in the end, what did it matter?
“I wanted to see how you were doing.”
“…That’s kind of you.” Her head tilted back, to rest against the tree.
“But as you can see, I’m doing terrible. I miss him.”
Straight to the point, she hid nothing and left nothing vague. Talking candidly to Goku came as easy as breathing, in an indescribable but welcomed way.
“I know…this is going to sound weird but…” He rubbed the back of his head.
“I’ve been missing you too, in a way.”
“…Careful there. You ARE married, sir.”
“Heheh!” Goku laughed at her comment, flashing a broad grin. His cheeks were a peachy shade.
“I know! Chi Chi would kill me if she knew that I came here to see you, but I just had to.”
She listened keenly. She felt warm again.
“I have Vegito’s memories, and can remember the emotions he felt in them. Same should go for Vegeta. We both know how much Vegito cared about you, and on my end anyway, those feelings persist in me. It does feel wrong, but…it feels right too.”
Becoming the teeniest-bit uncomfortable at where this was going, she fidgeted but didn’t interrupt. She did latch onto what he said about the fusion having cared for her, apparently by a large margin, if his phrasing meant such. A sense of longing overtook her…
“I don't want to overstep any boundaries, but I do still want to be your friend. It doesn’t matter how Chi Chi would feel about it, or what she would say. I just can't abandon you, not after how you and Vegito bonded... I can't say with certainty that Vegeta feels the same way, but there is a chance. He's even worse with this mushy stuff than I am, so who knows?” He chuckled.
That was sweet. She appreciated that Goku at least wouldn’t cut all ties with her. He and Vegeta weren’t Vegito, but fragments of him in a sense. The only remnants. She would treasure that.
“Hey…Goku? Vegito told me that the fusion was permanent, but obviously it wasn’t. Did the Kais, or whatever they’re called, lie to you?”
“I don’t think so. Elder Kai was pretty convinced once two people fused using potara, that there wasn’t any way for it to be undone. He knew about the dragon balls, but I guess he didn’t consider if they could actually do it.” Goku gazed upwards, and hummed.
“Or, maybe he was aware, but thought that we would be fine existing as a fusion forever. Vegito was the perfect person to guard Earth after all. The best of Vegeta and me put together…”
He frowned. She inquired about his sudden mood drop.
“What’s wrong?”
“…I really don’t like how Chi Chi and Bulma treated Vegito.” He sat up straight. “It was unfair.”
“Tell me about it…” She grumbled.
“Defeating Buu was our number one priority back then. No matter what it took, he needed to be stopped. I told Vegeta there was no going back after we fused, and he still put on the potara anyway. We knew what we were doing, and we thought it would be for the best.”
It was, and it wasn’t. It saved Earth, but it brought pain right into their families.
“Both of our minds came together to form the base of Vegito’s, but he was his own deal. I think of him as a branch off of myself, but also…as a brother too. And kind of a son, in a really weird way.”
“Fusion in general is really weird.” She echoed, relating to his puzzlement.
“I feel bad. Like I failed him somehow, even though there wasn’t anything I could do.”
Goku admitted, and his face lost all of its prior cheerfulness. She related oh so painfully with him there. She was even THERE when Shenron was summoned, but she was too late to stop them from making the wish. She would’ve dealt with two furious, bloodthirsty widows, but she would’ve saved Vegito.
… … …
… … …
…Actually…wait a minute-
“Goku!” Her passionate and unexpected outburst made him jump. She stared at him intensely, hands balled into fists.
“Do you think that we can use the dragon balls to bring Vegito back?”
“…Bring him back? _____, he’s technically not dead, so there’s nothing to bring-”
“That’s not what I mean.” She interjected.
“Can the dragons balls bring him back as his own being, separate from you and Vegeta?”
This made the Saiyan freeze stiff, and wheels turn in his brain. He goggled at her as minutes passed. Anticipation and the smallest flame of hope made her shiver, but she waited as patiently as she could for him to answer.
“I…” Goku’s eyes darted in multiple directions, before settling on her own. “I don’t know. I don’t know how Shenron would make that happen, if he’s even capable of it at all.”
“But, is there a chance?”
“Yes, I have to say so. We won’t know unless we try.”
The wish-granting dragon of Earth could do so much, from wiping memories of a specific event from everyone’s minds around the globe to resurrecting multiple people from the dead at once, but was manipulating reality to this grand of a scale included? But Goku was right, they wouldn’t learn unless they went for it.
She was determined to. This was their only method of returning Vegito to this world, that didn’t involve fusion, and she would take it.
“We have to wait though, since the dragon balls are dormant right now. But Chi Chi and Bulma only used one of the wishes, so we have to wait four months instead of the usual one year.”
Four months? That was too long.
“What about the…namekian dragon balls? Can’t we use those?”
“I already did. I went to Namek yesterday, and used them to revive Vegeta since he was still dead.” Goku sighed.
“They’re dormant now too. We have to wait, and that’s that.”
That was highly annoying, but she guessed it couldn’t be helped. She had to wait four months to see if this ludicrous wish could even come true… Her fingernails dug into her legs out of vexation. At least it was only four months. If she had to wait a year, this agitation would’ve drove her up a hundred walls.
“Alright. Four months, then. I need to see if Bulma will let us have the dragon radar. I’ll ask her.”
“Really? Are you sure? Maybe it’ll be better if I ask.”
“No, I need to be the one. And not because this was my idea.” She breathed out, mulling over how to phrase this.
“Vegito…I have a hunch that she and Chi Chi felt pressured to make that wish because of me. Because of how close he was to me. I guess the both of them felt like they were losing Vegito, or more specifically, losing what was left of you and Vegeta. That must’ve scared them. If I was in their shoes…I would’ve been scared too.”
That was the truth. She didn’t believe she would’ve acted differently from them.
“Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think they felt threatened by ME specifically. More like the fact that…Vegito getting with someone else meant that their relationships with him would be truly over. They couldn’t let that happen.”
She felt weird saying ‘getting with someone else’, because she couldn’t determine if that’s what Vegito intended to do. She didn’t know if he had actual…feelings for her. Feelings like that.
She has realized that she herself is genuinely attracted to him. It’s obvious to her now. It’s stared her in the face, and it took she losing him for it to set in. What she wouldn’t give to hear his wondrous voice again, to see his alluring form, his smirk that got under her skin in such an intoxicating way, and his smile that was absurdly endearing…
Vegito at least liked her in a friendly manner, but anything more was impossible to establish. There was no way for her to know.
Not until he was revived.
“It’s kind of my fault that this happened to him. I need to make things right.”
Black eyes looked into her own, as their owner studied her carefully. With…respect? That was embarrassing, but also, it made her feel proud of herself.
“I understand.” Goku’s toothy grin gave her a confidence boost. “I think Bulma will give you the radar, she doesn’t lose anything by doing it. And when the time comes, I’ll go around the world to get them!”
He jumped up to his feet, fists raised and face shining.
“I have a good feeling about this _____! It’ll work out. I have faith.”
If he has faith, then she should too.
“I gotta get going now. I told Chi Chi I was going out for just a few minutes. See you later!”
She waved just as Goku’s body fizzled away into the air. Her mood was significantly better than it was before he visited, and she’s thankful he did. Their conversation was exactly what she needed, to lose this hopelessness and gain motivation.
She won’t go to Capsule Corp right away, as tensions were likely still high. She’d wait a week at the minimum, and perhaps longer, once she manages to figure out how to tell Bulma her plan.
Additionally, to apologize to her for calling her selfish. It felt good in the moment, but it may have been out of line.
༻ ❁ ༺
The smell of something delectable touched his nose with a tantalizing waft as soon as he appeared in his home, and Goku marched straight to the kitchen.
“Chi Chi! I’m home!”
When he entered the room, his wife was standing before their stove covered to the brim with pots and pans, while an assortment of veggies were lined next to her on the counter. His stomach was already growling up a storm, and he would’ve approached her to see just what she was cooking, but he was thrown off by Chi Chi herself.
Son Goku was very perceptive to ki. He was committed to understanding it back in his youth, when he was mentored by Kami and Mr. Popo, and he became somewhat of a master of reading ki when Gohan was born. Being able to gauge someone’s mood, and even their level of health, by how their ki radiated was a skill Goku found very useful, as he wasn’t great at reading the intricacies of body language or more unnoticeable signs.
It didn’t take long for him to piece together that Chi Chi was upset.
Her mood took a sharp fall the moment he announced his presence. She has yet to speak a word to him on top of that. He was clueless on the cause of it though.
“Chi? What’s wrong?”
“…Goku...”
She spoke softly, sadly, yet did not turn to face him. This worried him. He stepped towards her.
“What is it?”
When he drew close enough, he saw that her hands at her sides were shaking. Hearing him move to her, she turned around this time. Her eyes were glistening with tears, and she appeared desperate.
“Do you still love me, Goku?”
Confused, his head slanted.
“Of course I love you. Why are you asking?”
His blunt, innocent response had the opposite effect one may have expected. The woman’s tears fell, and her eyes went to the floor.
“I…Goku…it’s been so long since you’ve been home. You were gone for seven years. Then, when you came from Other World to be in the Worlds Martial Arts Tournament, I was so happy. Even if it was just for a day, our family could be together again. But…”
Her voice gained more strength, but it was still dripping with emotion. She looked him in the eyes.
“Those Babidi and Buu monsters ruined everything. You fused with Vegeta, and I lost you again. Forever, I thought. Vegito looked close to you, but he wasn’t you. He was never you. And now…I have you back, finally. But it doesn’t FEEL like you’re back, Goku!”
Where was this going? He didn’t like it. Chi Chi looked to be at her wit’s end. It’s fortunate that Goten and Gohan were out; he could feel their ki out in the wilderness surrounding their house, likely gathering ingredients for their mother.
He didn’t want them to overhear this.
“What do you mean by that, Chi Chi?”
“…You feel distant, far away. Like you aren’t here at all, but you are! You’re here now, but I can’t help wondering if you still love me. After everything that’s happened…”
He had a brief flashback, of what _____ told him earlier.
‘I guess the both of them felt like they were losing Vegito, or more specifically, losing what was left of you and Vegeta. That must’ve scared them.’
Chi Chi’s question then made sense. The martial artist breathed in and out. Here goes with this mushy stuff again, he was never all that great with it, but for his wife…this type of mushiness was special. Deserved.
“Chi, if I didn’t love you, I wouldn’t be standing right here. Right now.” He stared down at her, speaking gently but with a level of conviction that had her knees go weak.
“I wouldn’t have had our sons with you. I wouldn’t have agreed to marry you…once I found out what marriage actually was.”
The woman suppressed a giggle. Goku reached out to take one of her hands in his own, virtually eclipsing it. Chi Chi immediately squeezed his palm, always loving how the callousness of his hands felt against her smooth skin.
“I know I’ve been gone for a really long time. I want to make up for all if it. Every day, every minute. I’m here to stay, Chi Chi.”
He has no plans of leaving again. The only reason he thought it would be best to stay dead after Cell killed him, was because it would help keep his family and friends safe. He’s been a magnet for trouble, and he was tired of letting it hit so close to home. Ironically, they did have peace on the planet for years, and as soon as he was back for one day…
His decision ended up being justified. But part of him still regrets it. He had no idea Chi Chi was pregnant with Goten at the time, and he missed seven years of the boy’s life so far. Chi Chi had to raise him all on her own, with Gohan lending whatever support he could as her firstborn. He had so much to make up for.
“Oh, Goku…!”
She jumped at him, and they met in a warm embrace. He held her tightly, and deeply inhaled, taking in her scent. It always had a soothing effect on him.
From afar, lingering in the kitchen’s entrance from outside, their sons watched quietly with wide smiles.
“…You haven’t forgotten what you promised me, right?”
“Hm? What was that?”
“You getting a job. I expect you to keep to your word, mister!” She wiped her dried tears away and poked him in the chest, glaring in a lighthearted way but he knew all too well that she was serious. Goku chuckled, and leaned down to plant a kiss on her cheek, much to her pleasure.
“Don’t worry Chi. You know that I never break promises.”

You know I wish Gosho and DCMK writers in general would stop with the Sonoko has a crush on Kid thing because they’re a far more interesting dynamic if they were friends you can argue they are friends even through the magic fan forums they have cool parallels (in ways not often seen through other characters who have parallels with him) the fact she wants to impress Kid with a magic trick of her. I hope she meets Kaito as Kaito and is able to get him to smile because of it. The fact it’s him that reassures Sonoko it’s not her fault the magician died , not Ran , not Conan him. It undercuts Kid telling Makoto he can’t return her heart because he never really had it even if Makoto because I agree. Sonoko x Makoto is my DCMK otp but still she should have outgrown her crush by now.
AGREED!!
Sonoko is a great character with fun dynamics, but her simping over Kid is just..... No.
They genuinely work well as friends, for all the reasons you listed out.
The crush was an ammusing twist after the Black Star heist since she'd originally been like 'there's some weird thief that wants to steal my families stuff. it's cool that he's mysterious but like.... Ran could you get Shinichi or your dad to arrest this guy?', So the sharp turn after being told by Conan that Kid looked like a teen. amusing.
Sonoko's not above chasing after pretty boys, and Kid presents as a suave and mysterious gentleman. A forbidden romance between a rich heiress and a gentleman thief? Has Sonoko been reading those kinds of novels? Probably has. I see the appeal, it's understandable even.
But then she has Makoto (Who I'm used to calling Goku cause I have to simplify dcmk names for my husband) and she loves him. And she's willing to let him go on his journey to be the best and win all the fights even though it means that he's never around- after she trash talked Shinichi about never being around for Ran.
She should get over her crush (is it even still a crush when it's gone on this long at this level? I'm aromantic, I don't really know how romance functions.).... anyway. Even if not just to move on for herself then because Makoto gets all jelly when she's lost in boy-crazy land.
.... it's definitely not the intent but sometimes I read it as Sonoko just being a little toxic drama queen and wanting to make Makoto jealous intentionally by commiting to the fangirl bit. Which admittedly still is far from ideal.
...... I'd love it if sometime down the road we could have Sonoko texting Kid and him being like 'Remember when you had a massive crush on me?' and her responding, 'ugh don't remind me'. Cute.
#dcmk#kaitou kid#suzuki sonoko#seriously#Sonoko is a good character with a lot of interesting traits#but lately she's been boiled down to just 'rich girl likes bois'#she's like a parody of herself....#v.v#asks

Non-Combatant Gohan DBZ AU #2
Being a Gohan-centric au, naturally we need a post devoted to the boy himself.
Stay tuned for everything you never knew you needed to know about the normalest boy ever.
Gohan the Normal Boy
Now obviously I'm kidding a little bit, as even the most average of upbringings has its quirks and there's only so much attending public school can iron out. Being half-alien is a notable one. But attended-public-school Gohan has about an OG DB weirdness threshold. He's cool with having a monkey's tail and not being allowed to look at the moon. Having super strength is awkward but not unmanageable. But once you get into the whole "people can fly" thing you start to lose him. He's more open to it than Videl, but only because he knows some people are aliens. Humans flying is a little less believable.
Gohan spent the first seven or so years of his life around Mt. Paozu and the Son family house. Goku was absent for much of this time for a variety of reasons(dead, injured, in outer space) so he was raised mainly by Chichi, who insisted he spend much of his time studying. He likely had a few filler-episode-type adventures, but nothing too intense. Chichi's protectiveness kept him near the house most of the time. So our boy never quite outgrows the timidness of childhood, though he has learned to cope rather well by his teens.
In the pre-Android saga, Chichi and Goku separate. Gohan and his mother move closer to the city after several disagreements he doesn't know are about him. Chichi is determined to keep her son safe, which means Gohan has a mostly abstract idea of who his father is until the Cell Games are broadcast that fateful day. She can't keep him from seeing it, indeed it was on every channel, so while the world cheers on Mr. Satan, Chichi prays for her husband's safety, and finally tells her son about his heritage. A fire is lit that day, though it escapes the notice of both for years.
Gohan attends elementary, middle and high school as most children do. He has friends, playmates, tutors, and though he doesn't play sports, he does join a variety of clubs(colleges love extracurriculars). In high school he participates in some academic-decathlon-type competition, and befriends a boy called Suki(more on him later). I'd say the biggest difference between canon Gohan and this AU is that he grows up with friends. Friends, normal humans who accept their shy, nerdy buddy who just happens to have a tail. He is acquainted with Videl, but they have little in common, and she seems out of his league. It's pure luck that they share a homeroom class, so Gohan gets a free ticket to the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament. Chichi doesn't want him to go. This is Gohan's first time openly defying his mother, and he does it because he just might get to see his dad again.
Still with me? Let's get into normal boy's problems.
Gohan was born with above-average potential. This is canon. He displays enough of a glimmer of this potential in DBZ that Vegeta and Nappa have a brief chat about Saiyan/Earthling hybrids while on their way to Earth. In canon Gohan received training which allowed him to make use of this strength. In this AU he received nothing of the sort. This results in the incredibly stressful situation of being unable to control his superhuman strength effectively. He tries, and has mostly succeeded over the years, but every once in a while he slips up and breaks something. Issues like those are becoming more common as Gohan enters his teens. Try as he might to suppress it, his strength only grows, and now it even outpaces his body's ability to adapt. Chichi knows but she can't help, and doesn't want to admit she was wrong to keep him from Goku. With no recourse left, Gohan knows he has to go behind his mother's back to get help from the one person he knows will understand.
That's how the anxious beanpole of a half-Saiyan(yes he's tall and skinny in this I have headcanons) ends up searching the crowd at the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament for his dad he hasn't seen for nine years. Somehow Goku finds him first and, well, I'll save that story for another time.
Thank you as always to my readers.

Excerpt from "The Demon King and the Half-Breed Hermit"
Gotta log off for a while after this but first, I wanted to share this (unedited and incomplete) scene. It's for an upcoming (in-the-works) chapter of my Piccolo/OC-centric ▶Dragon Ball post-GT◀ fic, found on my FFnet account. Why am I sharing it? Firstly, it's proof I'm still writing (...trying...) and despite the long wait for new chapters, DK&HBH has NOT been abandoned. (NOTHING has been abandoned!) Secondly, THIS is what happens when I tell myself "I need to start writing characters who can effectively communicate and deal with their emotions like functional adults!" 😑 Yes...AUBERGINE happens.
Hopefully the "Queen of Issues" can make someone smile.
🌲🌳🌲🌳🌲🌳🌲🌳🌲🌳🌲🌳🌲🌳🌲🌳🌲🌳🌲🌳🌲
Life as a single mother was generally a struggle; as a single mother of two half-Saiyan boys, life was a never-ending catastrophe. Fortunately for Son Chi-Chi, both her boys were grown men capable of running their own lives; unfortunately, that left her to manage her household alone. Oh, sure, Gohan and Videl regularly offered to move her into their home and take care of her, but she wasn't quite ready to accept that offer. She was quite capable of taking care of herself…at least, that is, when she wasn't weighed down with groceries and being chased down by a saber-toothed wildcat.
Winded, she stumbled and landed hard on her knees, her bags falling and the contents scattering. One moment she could practically feel the beast's rancid breath on her neck; the next a warning shout split the air, quickly followed by a pained yelp. Chi-Chi scrambled onto her back and stilled at the familiar silhouette cast by the afternoon sun through the trees. Black hair as ragged as ever and eyes dark as pitch, Aubergine held the struggling wildcat by the throat, leaching away its strength. She drained it a little longer before letting it slink away in shame, then looked to her fallen sister-in-law over her shoulder. "Are you hurt?"
"No," Chi-Chi answered as she gathered the spilled goods, then belatedly added "thank you." Aubrey shrugged and hoisted the bags onto her shoulder as the black faded from her eyes.
"Well, someone's got to shield the squishies," she replied instead. The familiar retort used to irritate Chi-Chi, but now she recognized it for what it was: you're welcome. I don't mind. Aubergine's long silences, half-answers, and silence took a while to adjust to but by now it was like a second language to her sister in-law.
The remainder of the journey to Chi-Chi's home passed in a silence midway between comfortable and awkward, and before she knew it, the matron was stowing away her groceries. Aubergine sat at the table, brooding and fiddling with a small shaker jar from the revolving rack in the middle. Recognizing the speckled contents, she pried the lid open, sniffed at the contents, and sneezed; her eyes and sinuses burned in protest as she jammed it closed and shoved it back on the rack. Yes, she identified it correctly. "So how's Piccolo settling in?" At the resulting silence, she turned to find Aubergine scowling like someone who just chewed five lemons in a row without stopping to sweeten them. "That well, huh?" Chi-Chi teased. I
Aubergine shot her a deadpan glower then exchanged the speckled powder for a jar full of tiny seeds. As if it explained everything, she grunted, "he's not dead yet." These seeds didn't burn her nose but they had a rather unpleasant smell somewhat like rank body odor. Nose scrunching at the stink, Aubrey exchanged the jar for a tall shaker full of tiny white crystals with a much sweeter scent. Over by the table, Chi-Chi gave a knowing smile as the half-breed examined her spices. "I don't understand how one person can require so many of these things," Aubergine muttered surveying the multitude of tiny jars and shakers on the Lazy-Susan. "What's the point of all this crap?"
"Spices?" Chi-Chi asked, and upon receiving a blank look added, "they make food taste good. As for the number, different dishes require different spices—you can't cook everything with the same ingredients." Aubrey stilled, eyes wide and locked on the three jars she investigated before. "What brought you here anyway?" If Chi-Chi didn't know any better, she'd say the half-breed was embarrassed.
"He quit complaining," Aubrey mumbled. "He used to whine that I was poisoning him; now he doesn't say anything…but…he doesn't have to. I thought…" She fell silent, cleared her throat, then collected the other two bottles and shoved the lot toward Chi-Chi. "Fish. It was worse than usual."
Chi-Chi was used to getting only half the picture from her half-Saiyan sister-in-law but this was even less information than usual. Those three spices were never used in the same dish; then again, this was Aubergine, and Aubergine was quite possibly the worst cook in the realms. "Correct me if I'm wrong," Chi-Chi asked, "but are you saying you cooked fish…with black pepper, cumin, and sugar…?" The half-breed glanced at the jars, read the fading labels, and gave a wary nod; Chi-Chi felt her breakfast threaten reappearance. "No wonder, then," she sighed. "Cumin and pepper can be used on fish but generally not together, and you don't use sugar on seafood."
"This is so stupid." …and so began Aubrey's usual response to statements regarding food as anything beyond life-preserving sustenance. After so many years of hearing the same thing over and over again, Chi-Chi easily tuned out the increasingly loud rant and gathered a few more appropriate seasonings for fish. "Food doesn't have to taste good!" Aubergine spat without regard. "Its only purpose is to keep you from dying of hunger, anything beyond that is friv—" Finally, she went silent. Of course, taking Chi-Chi's frying pan to the skull would shut anyone up.
"There's more to life than just existing," Chi-Chi scolded as Aubergine rubbed the already swelling lump on her skull and growled under her breath. "There's more to life than just survival. We were put on this Earth to thrive, not just not die."
"We were put on this Earth because my dumbass brother didn't have the balls to kill that midget Pilaf from the start." This time she ducked the frying pan.
"You're missing the point as always," Chi-Chi huffed. "I swear, you're so much like my Goku. Aubergine, when your life's over, you'll have an eternity to look back on what you did. If all you have to look back on is not dying, then what's the point?" Aubergine went silent, glaring at the wall beside her as if blaming it for everything that ever went wrong in her life. It didn't escape Chi-Chi that said wall stood between her kitchen and the home Goku and Aubergine grew up in. Not for the first time, she wondered what the half-breed's life was like in those early years, and what molded her into the distant, bristly woman she was now.
"Life was always enough before." The admission was quiet—half-muffled in Aubrey's mostly flat chest and aimed into the polished tabletop—but to the human matron it had the same impact as a battle cry. "Stay out of danger," the half-saiyan muttered as though reciting some sort of task list. "Find and maintain shelter, locate reliable sustenance, protect your brother…" ..wait for me to come find you. I promise, I'll come find you! Bardock may have been a visionary, but an honest Saiyan, he was not. He never came for them… "That used to be enough…" …until said brother ran off with a blue-haired teenager in search of adventure and left Aubergine behind. Sure, she caught up after a while and tagged along for a few misadventures—living alone in the wilds got boring, after all—but at the end of the day, she couldn't even accomplish the most important of these tasks. She couldn't protect Goku. One hand strayed up to brush her bangs out of her dead eye. She couldn't even protect herself. "Why isn't that enough anymore?"
"Perhaps it never really was enough." Chi-Chi's smile held no judgment and her voice no censure. "Perhaps you're only just realizing it now." Perhaps…Aubergine turned to the window, eyes trained on the distant misty peak of Mt. Paozu. After so many years of feeling stuck in place, maybe it was time to change. "I've offered before and the offer stands—I'll teach you to cook if you'll let me." For the first time, the offer was answered with a long silence instead of some bitter retort or evasive remark, proof in Chi-Chi's mind that the other was finally considering it.
"A year ago none of this would've…" Aubergine fell silent; again, she was driven to brush her bangs away from her blind eye though they weren't impairing her sight. That nervous tic would be the death of her someday… She cleared her throat and tried again. "Nothing mattered a year ago. It still shouldn't matter." Chi-Chi faltered. She recognized where this topic was leading as easily as she knew how Aubergine must have reacted to Piccolo's resurrection. She smoothed the skirt of her long dress and seated herself at the table. The rest of the groceries could wait a bit longer.
"The first time I lost Goku…" I lost Goku. Even after so many times of saying those words, her throat still caught around them; even after how many times Goku died, the very mention still triggered an echo of the day Krillin brought her the news. Her son, missing – her husband, dead – worst of all, the threat wasn't even over. "Well, I was a mess," Chi-Chi finished mildly. The past was in the past—let it lie there in peace. "Every time I lost him, I felt sure it was my fault for not being strong enough to keep him. Every time he came back, I tried harder than before to make him stay…and every time, I lost him again anyway…the last time, for good. He refused to be revived." Even now, the words made her eyes burn and her throat clench, so it was a comfort when Aubergine broke the tense silence.
"He was an idiot like that." The dry remark earned a weak chuckle.
"Indeed. Even now, were he to walk through that door, I'd still take him back. He left us all behind when he refused resurrection, but I'd still welcome him home with open arms." She hummed softly, leaning on her elbows and looking out the nearest window. Already the blue of the sky was deepening and the days, shortening—harvest time might come early this year. "For all his faults, and there were many, Goku was always so much stronger than I ever could be. I could never leave behind those I love, even to keep them safe…he did so without a second thought."
"But when the danger's gone, how does staying dead solve anything?" Aubergine cut in—an unusually long sentence from an unusually brief speaker. "The people he left behind—they still needed him—they depended on him, and he turned his back on them!" Chi-Chi hazarded a glance at her company; Aubergine was off in another world, her vision trained somewhere far beyond the woodgrain of the tabletop. "Didn't he know? Didn't it matter?" Chi-Chi's wrinkle-framed lips tilted into a sly smile.
"He knew there were such people, I'm sure," she answered. "I have a feeling he didn't quite understand what it would put you through." Aubergine gave a faint nod, eyes distant, then startled as she realized the subject change. Both women knew they were no longer talking about Goku; neither was ready to admit it, either. The half-Saiyan's cheeks darkened in embarrassment, but the effect was lessened by the venomous glare aimed out the window. "You never told him, did you?" Chi-Chi pressed.
"Why bother?" Aubergine muttered. "He knew what he was doing. He had to know I'd—" She fell short, remembering vividly the searing pain in her chest from the day the earth was destroyed—the fracturing of a heart timed to the shattering of a planet. From the first wince to the last breath, she felt Piccolo die, and it was a feeling she'd never forget…or forgive. "...I never should have marked the bastard."
Once again, Chi-Chi was given only bits and pieces, but this time she was content with it. If the scars on Aubergine's throat were any indication, the whole picture wasn't one she cared to see.

Enough about my cracked and sinking ship...
I find this next particular little addition kinda annoying.
*A few weeks later.*
*And so, time has passed...*
*Thirty minutes later.*
Why is time just passing by so much in this chapter? All those darn text boxes to tell the reader how much time passed, unnecessarily showing where characters are at, needlessly showing that characters are still training. A better way would be to have some time pass in the previous chapter, then a little more time pass in this one. This is a nitpick, but I just think it would flow better if 3 time jumps weren't spread through 1 chapter & not constantly switching between characters. Feels like Toyo is rushing to get to the action.
Again... Maki is cute and I still love her (but my ship is ruined 😞). The kissing Zuno to get questions is still funny to me. I do wonder how Zuno knows all things. Is he a god or something? Also...
That's minus 1 question, Maki.
So 2 weeks later and it appears that Goku has mastered UI in his base (but it ain't UI Sign for some reason). Some panels look too busy for the little that is going on, but most of the panels are fine when Goku is training with Whis. The constant complaint I have is that using UI in base is practically Goku using UI Sign. It makes the training not look that difficult. Also, Whis sparring with Goku like he did in earlier chapters would be better than just dodging his staff.
Vegeta's training looks weak in comparison to Goku's. Goku is harnessing his body movements along with technique. Vegeta is only doing a technique. Vegeta destroying slow falling logs isn't a cool of a way to show his progress. They could move faster than the eye could see back in OG Dragon Ball.
Its funny that Beerus has a lazy way of teaching, but it also shows that Vegeta's training isn't as good as Goku's training. Beerus should have done something like "You seem to have the hang of it now. But do you remember what I told you? Before creation comes destruction. You can destroy, but now I'll show you how to create destroyer energy." Then Beerus displays orbs of Hakai energy. Or even have Beerus tell Vegeta to clad himself with destroyer aura so that he can withstand nearly any ki based attack. Then have Beerus fire ki at Vegeta to strengthen his technique. This way, when Vegeta fights Granolah, (who's definetly stronger than him) Vegeta can brush off Granolah's ki blast with a barrier of destruction.
And the explanation of how destruction works is lame. To use hakai, you need to think only of destruction? Isn't that what everyone does already when they destroy something with normal ki blasts?
I find it funny how their wives bossing them around is one Goku & Vegeta's weaknesses. The others would be pride, ego, overconfidence, dragging fights on, delicious foods, ect. I wonder if those will be used againt them?
I'm really happy to see Chi-Chi! She's such a sweet lady and I love seeing how she interacts with ppl. Please show this lady more often! If you hate Chi-Chi then you must have been raised by a pack of wild starfish.
_______
Wow. So, Goku & Vegeta haven't been home for months.
Oh boy, I sure hope some goofball named TobiZenko doesn't use this fact as a reason to write Bulma & Chi-Chi needing some attention and pleasure that their absent husbands can't supply. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see...
(Link here) 😜
Chi-Chi is having money problems? Why is manga Goku not farming to provide for his family? Anime Goku does & manga Goku did. And working doesn't matter for Vegeta. He can be gone for months and train all day all he wants to. Bulma is the one with the big monies.
Vegeta says: "None may claim the title of the universe's strongest without my say." Ah, I see. So Vegeta is the authority around here? I guess that means Vegeta granted permission for Cell, Gohan, Majin Buu, Freeza, Moro, & Goku to be the strongest in the universe at one point in time. Seriously, lines like this from Vegeta are lines that Cell saga Vegeta would say. It seems that Beerus' training did nothing for him. Vegeta didn't "destroy" his past self in order to improve.
Vegeta: "No need for you [Goku] to come." If Goku doesn't come along, Vegeta will be dead. Vegeta has a death wish. I guess dying 3 times wasn't enough. Well technically 2 times. Killed by Freeza, Buu, then Freeza a second time (the last one was reversed).
Do Goku & Vegeta really need a ride to Earth from Whis? Can't Goku use Instant Transmission. Just call Gohan and tell him to raise his ki then teleport to Earth. Oh, that's why they won't use Instant Transmission... Vegeta knows Instant Transmission too, so to keep readers from thinking about it, Whis will give them a ride. Got ya. This also gives Maki & Oil time to steal the DB radar.
Goku says: "And after all this training, there's no way I'll lose to anyone!" Well I know the outcome of the fight now. Goku & Vegeta are gonna lose to Granolah. Goku is overconfident & overconfidence in DB always leads to defeat. Look at Vegeta's record, he's the Prince of Overconfidence & Defeat.
So Beerus has his own symbol of destruction as an earring. He probably just made that up & other GoDs don't use that as a symbol, but I have no problem with that. Its kinda cool? I personally would have liked it more if he gave Vegeta forearm bracelets or wrist gauntlets so that it would stand out more. Or even Beerus carving the daimond shaped symbol he has on his clothes onto Vegeta's armor.
Beerus seriously thinks a God of Destruction's signature move is stronger than Angel techniques? Wow dude. Vegeta is literally set up to fail. Whis is stronger than Beerus so by default, Angel techniques are better than a GoD's signature move. Whis can defeat Beerus with 1 chop, what does that say about Goku vs Vegeta? Whis can deliver babies and create things out of nowhere, rewind time, & even bring the dead back to life. A God of Destruction can destroy. I rest my case.
Ok... this part right here... this particular part pissed me off so freaking much... Why...? Why did DBS change Goku & Vegeta's RoF outfits and get rid of the Whis symbol?? They were trying to learn UI while training under Whis, so they should have kept the symbol through the Goku Black arc, ToP, & Broly movie, to show that Whis was their teacher. But it's coming back now? It would have been much more meaningful for Goku to gain UI Sign while wearing Whis' symbol! But noooo!! Goku & Vegeta have to go back to their Cell Saga outfits and Vegeta decided to grab his Cell Saga personality while he was there for nostalgic reasons! I'm so tired of nostalgia in the DB manga... Its rarely done tastefully. The writing is just constantly backtracking.
(The panel above is another issue of inconsistent writing. Whis says this is the true state of UI during the ToP arc, but later in the Granolah arc, Whis tells Goku not to equate it to a transformation. Meaning the transformation was originally written as the true state, but later Toyo wrote for Whis to say that silver hair is not the true state & Goku needs to use UI in base instead if transforming.)
This brings me to another critique. And yes, it's about Vegeta. Vegeta learning from Beerus is cool and all, but this should have happened BEFORE Goku attained UI. This change to training under Beerus should have happened after the Universe 6 vs Universe 7 tournament. We should have saw Vegeta use Hakai on merged Zamasu, Vegeta using his destruction power to fight Toppo's GoD candidate transformation, Vegeta unlocking Super Saiyan God of Destruction (purple hair and all) instead of that wack shiny recolour Super Saiyan Blue Evolution, then Vegeta advancing and using Hakai attacks against Moro, only to see that Goku's Mastered Ultra Instinct surpassed his power. Now Vegeta would continue his training with Beerus to see if this path that suits him can surpass Goku's path. But we got what we got.
Whis: "Excess confidence may be your doom." Cool. They're gonna lose. Thanks for the confirmation Whis. 👍
Goku says "Is this guy that nasty?" Lol. Reminds me of that gag panel I made that tons of ppl on twitter thought was a bad translation and who thought my sarcastic review of CH 65 was real lol. Ppl are so quick to attack on twitter and it made them look stupid after I had already explained in an earlier tweet that I was gonna be sarcastic and make jokes when reviewing the manga chapter. Context is always important & being quick to assume is usually a bad thing.
Does Beerus even train. I had the notion that he trained off screen but as soon as Goku & Vegeta leave, he want to go to sleep. I don't care anymore about how strong or weak Beerus is in comparison to Goku.
Maki says the Dragon Radar isn't working because somebody must have used the Earth Dragon Balls, so they will be stone for a entire year. The problem I have is that the Earth Dragon Balls weren't used for much. The Namekian Dragon Balls were used to restore the destroyed planets and revive all the ppl Moro killed. One wish from the Earth wish orbs was possibly used to fix the damage Moro caused to the Earth. But that would leave 2 more wishes. Unless Bulma made a wish to be 5 yrs younger again, then radar should be working by now. Even if those 2 wishes were granted, Shenron would still have 1 wish left and the Dragon Balls would be active within a few months. But whatever. Not that important.
Here's the plot device! Cerelean Dragon Balls don't turn to stone after a wish has been granted, meaning that they could be found again immediately and have countless wishes without a timer. How convenient 😒
Chi-Chi is still an adorable lady. But she is getting the No. 18 treatment. She is wrongly portrayed that her main concern is money, just how Toyo narrowed down 18's personality & traits to being mean and money obsessed. At least with Chi-Chi it was briefly brought up that it's for financial reasons. In the anime, they explained that 18 wanted money to help Krillin so that he wouldn't have to work so much. No context for 18 wanting money in the manga.
The quick Go-Chi & VegeBul chat was nice. We finally got another rare Go-Chi moment in the DBS manga 🎉
Let's count up the time skip stuff. 2 weeks, unspecified time passing that could be 1 or 2 weeks, 18 days to get to planet Cereal, & Chi-Chi said she hasn't seen Goku for months. At minimum, almost 2 months have passed in this chapter, & Goku and Vegeta have possibly been gone training for either 1/4 to 1/2 a year in total after the Moro arc. DBS should be in AGE 781 now. 3 yrs left until the End of Z & possibly the end of Granolah's lifespan. Why do I want to know this? Idk.
I would say this is good observation on Vegeta's behalf BUT it kinda isn't. We never hear Oil & Maki lie that "some great destroyer" is ravaging the Heeters planet. For all we know, Vegeta just assumes that it's their planet under attack and then questions how they have such a nice ship. On the surface it appears smart but its actually not that clever. More of just Vegeta assuming.
Vegeta trains all the time and doesn't allow his body to rest. Goku rests & replenishes his body. This is one reason why Goku will always be better. Anyone who understands fitness knows this.
Yup. They used Goku's weakeness of food against him. Not to harm him, but to win over some trust/keep him preoccupied.
Why is Vegeta training under water...? Its not like it helps him like it would for a normal human. He grew up with 10x gravity, trained under 100x gravity, & has power of a god. The only explanation I can think of would be that Vegeta is training his breathing by being in the water.
A pretty decent lie from Maki. I think I know why the Heeters didn't have Granolah fight Freeza first then fight Goku and Vegeta. I am assuming that Gas will merge with 7-3 in order to kill Freeza so the Heeters can take over his empire. That works. We kinda expect that or something similar by now.
A complaint again about unnecessary panels. 2 reaction shots from Granolah aren't necessary. Nor is it necessary for him to reiterate that the Saiyans nearly made the Cereleans go extinct. We know this and have known it for 4 chapters, every chapter.
(Sometimes I really wanna re-edit all of the DBS manga panels to make it flow better...)
*sigh* I said it before and I'll say it again. This is basically Toyo's version of DBS Broly. 3 warriors fated to fight, a misguided guy being manipulated, blah blah blah. And Granolah is just a fusion of Paragus (revenge) & Broly (power). Granolah says its been 50 yrs but he'll get his revenge. It was 40 yrs for Paragus. And neither are attacking the Saiyans that wronged them.
(Granolah has green hair & crazy power just like full power Broly. Granolah has an eye patch like how Paragus has a scar on his eye/how Paragus has an eye patch in DBH. Has the scarf thing like Paragus did too.)
Overall, the chapter isn't bad but it does have issues. The Heeters saved this chapter because they were the most interesting and enjoyable part. Nearly every scene with Goku, Vegeta, or Granolah was boring to me.
In conclusion... WHERE THE F*CK IS FREEZA!?! How come that bastard isn't shown yet?! This arc has been going on for 5 chapters! He wasn't even seen in the last arc (which is a good thing depending on your perspective) but why is he not seen for 5 chapters when this arc is literally all happening because of his influence?! THIS IS NOT HOW YOU BUILD UP TENSION FOR THE CONFRONTATION WITH FREEZA!!! 😠
END OF LONG REVIEW
Extra thoughts
The Heeters are possibly over 60 yrs old. They age well.
I don't see how beings that are GoD & Angel tier could believably fight on a planet and not kill the entire population on accident or destroy the planet, but we'll see how that turns out. Goku and Vegeta have control of such power but how can somebody like Granolah have control of his newfound power.
The upcoming fight probably won't end in this single chapter. Or the fight will begin near the end of the chapter.
Monaito will probably interfere with the upcoming fight in this or the chapter after. Or be in danger.
Oil & Maki will likely find the Dragon Balls and make a wish during the fight.
We probably still won't see Freeza but he will be mentioned again. If we do se Freeza, there will be only 1 page that he's on.
DBS CH 71 REVIEW (tldr)
Imma be a bit more critical with this chapter.
First of all, too many panels on the majority of the pages. I get that sometimes we need more panels to convey our point, but Toyo uses panels in an unnecessary way. It becomes cluttered. Too many reaction shots and panels that add nothing. All they do is take up space & make pages feel overcrowded. There is a page with 10 panels... TEN PANELS ON ONE PAGE. Look at this page one below.
Toyo has had this issue since he started the DBS manga. There's also tons of dialogue and it ain't always good. And the dialogue often contradicts itself. So I'll be disecting most of the dialogue to find those contradictions or other issues, because there's a ton of dialogue. Now that that's off my chest, time to constructively critique the chapter.
(Lengthy review ahead)
I dislike that Goku can't dodge Whis' staff all of the sudden. Goku's capable of easily dodging that. Goku is literally handicapped so that he can dodge Whis' staff later on in this chapter, just to give off the illusion of improvement.
I don't understand this little lesson that Whis is teaching Goku. Ultra Instinct was originally set up as a state of mind. Then in the Moro arc, it's interchangeably referred to as a transformation and a technique that requires a certain state of mind. UI Sign looked like Goku using UI in his base. But to sell merch, they have "Mastered" UI have silver hair and look like a transformation. In this recent chapter, Whis tells Goku that UI is a state & that it is not a transformation. Goku had thought otherwise and saw it as a transformation even though he has called it a state of mind and technique as well in the previous arc. What is UI?
Whis says "You're equating Ultra Instinct to a transformation. When your heart is calm, your body should move on its own no matter what form you're in." That makes sense. It makes me wonder why they decided to retcon it as a transformation in the first place. (This statement also reinforces my claim that Krillin knows a technique like UI. Krillin had no physical change but his state of mind caused an internal spiritual transformation.)
Oh... That's not good... So Goku says "So you're saying I gotta figure out how to use Ultra Instinct in my normal form?" Someone explain to me how Goku learned how to easily go into UI Sign at will WHILE STILL IN HIS BASE FORM. Would that not mean Goku can use UI in his base form while he uses "mastered" UI as a transformation? That's how its been conveyed to the audience. Anyway, Whis then says using UI in his normal form will free him of the stamina drain that creates a time limit. Imma be honest, I didn't see a time limit or stamina issue when Goku easily access Ultra Instinct Sign at will against Moro. The only time the stamina became an issue at this point is when Goku tried to forcefully power-up UI Sign instead of keeping a calm heart. But Whis' statement brings up a problem for me that I've had with the DBS manga.
WHY DOES EVERY FORM HAVE STAMINA ISSUES???
First SSG was hard to maintain because of the stamina drain.
If you turned SSB without turning SSG first, there was a stamina issue.
Mastered SSB supposedly is mastered but had a stamina problem as well.
UI Sign has stamina issues so he needs to use the completed form so there is less strain.
Mastered UI even had some stamina issues in its early presentation.
These 2 Saiyan nincompoops haven't mastered any form other than SS1 & maybe SS2! What the heck?! Why does every form in the DBS manga have stamina issues?? Does Toyotaro not know how to write anything else to hinder the forms? SSG should not have stamina issues if SSB (a higher form) can be achieved. SSB should have a stamina issue only. UI Sign & Mastered UI should only have the issue of keeping calm and unwavered during battle. Showing great surprise or rage should be the weakness of Ultra Instinct. There! Now its all balanced out. But that's not what we get...
Whis tells Goku "As for the full transformation tha-... "choto a minute...! Didn't Whis just say UI isn't a transformation a couple of pages ago?
Whatever 😑. Since its not clearly explained, imma do my best to find an explanation myself. I'm guesing that UI is just a technique & state of mind of the Angels, but maybe now its retconed that there is also a transformation that accompanies it? Sure? I guess Toyo noticed he goofed up with the writing and decide to combine the two ideas. If UI is also a transformation then I suppose that means Whis and other Angels are always in the transformed state. But since how they look is presented as their natural state "We are always in the Ultra Instinct state." It is not a transformed state, it is just their natural state. Ugh... whatever. The answer I've come to is that Ultra Instinct is a technique/state of mind. But Goku gets into that state of mind by equating it to a transformation, then he transforms into the silver hair because of his Saiyan biology. Maybe my thoughts will change after we get some new info that contradicts what is currently established. Back to what Whis was saying.
"As for the full transformation that accompanies Ultra Instinct, Let's set that aside as a last resort for when a battle demands that you surpass your limits."
I'm sorry but this is one of the dumbest things that I can remember that Whis has ever said. If I recall correctly, Goku has had to surpass his limits in every battle he's been in. It's literally what Roshi instilled into his students when he trained them. Goku fought King Piccolo, Piccolo Jr., the Saiyans, the Ginyu Force, Freeza, the androids & Cell, Majin Buu, Beerus, Hit, Zamasu, Jiren & every opponent in the ToP, Broly, & Moro. Goku has used Kaio-Ken, Super Saiyan, Super Saiyan grade 4, Super Saiyan 3, fusion, Super Saiyan God, Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-Ken, Mastered Super Saiyan Blue, Ultra Instinct Sign, & Mastered Ultra Instinct to surpass his limits against every opponent. Every battle has demanded that. Knowing the past leads me to this conclusion..
UI is being utilized as a sort of Kaio-Ken now. Tough on the body so it's a last resort "technique" to win a battle. It made sense back in Z because Kaio-Ken granted great power but damaged the body. Mastered Ultra Instinct only drains stamina, but it's the strongest "form" so far. No real downside to the power besides it doesn't last long.
All Whis is telling us is...
(This is a very poor excuse not to use Mastered UI.)
That panel of Vegeta holding a boulder with one finger... Goku and Krillin could do stuff like that when they were teens before they even knew how to use ki properly. If you're gonna show Vegeta, at least show him blow the boulder up or turn it into sand. He's literally doing nothing.
Whis tells Goku what Roshi already taught him, & that is to "surpss yourself." Vegeta & Goku kinda dismiss this because they already understand that. Maybe Vegeta doesn't truly understand this lesson yet because he has a problem of trying to surpass Goku instead of himself.
2 pages with Granolah. 7 panels for both pages. No action, little dialogue. This could have easily been shortened to 1 page with 7 panels or just not have the 2 pages at all. They don't add much to this chapter except to establish Granolah is on his planet.
I love the design of the Heeter ship. Looks like classic Toriyama. I wonder if he designed it? 🤔
Again, Maki is the best part of the Heeters. Toyo has written her well in every chapter so far. She reminds me of Cheelai, but more interesting and less butt & boobs.
Gas is still my second favorite Heeter. He's not overly excited for battle like a Saiyan, yet he seems to enjoy it in his own way. Gas & Maki are great. Elec said Gas is the only one of them that can surpass Freeza. Curious as to how strong Gas is. (There's a fart joke just waiting to happen)
Wait a second...
There goes my Maki x Gas ship 😣. I suppose it's a good thing I didn't draw NSFW of them yet. I had the perfect ship name too! Gasi! (No, that sounds like gassy...) Gasaki! Maybe they're family in the same way Caulifla & Kale are family? Maybe its in a similar way how some ppl call each other "cousin" or "brother" when they're of the same tribe? The worst part is that I still wanna ship them! Curse you Toyotaro! You ruined my ship! 😭

This transformation had caught Chi-Chi unaware and frankly off guard, still trying to process what had happened in that moment. HOW or WHY it even happened for that matter. She — or he right was probably more appropriate, was trying to carefully move about to not ruin his clothing. While, this build wasn't much too different from her usual with the exception of her muscles being more prominent, her clothes had gotten tighter.
Being once more startled from their thoughts when their husband busted into the house suddenly, a little gasp escaping him. Jolting just a little in response to the Saiyan's sudden appearance — more surprised to see him in his Super Saiyan God mode. It seemed he had somehow sensed something was off with his wife and came rushing from the fields, ready to protect her.
Not that protection was really necessary. Not really.
"Ah, Goku the mat — !!"
Forgetting about being careful as he moved forward to catch the other when he almost stumbled forward. Luckily, it seemed his husband's reflexes were quick enough to catch him on the doorframe of the entrance. A soft sigh escaping Chi-Chi before he noticed the fierce blush that was suddenly painting the man's face.
Oh. Oh right. Almost completely forgetting about his little predicament in that moment — feeling heat pool into his cheeks now as a response. Feeling a little self conscious and embarrassed now in the moment.
"A-Ah, I'm not sure w-what happened exactly — "
" — but, umm, I-I think I got transformed by a wish or something."
Pressing the tips of his fingers together and shyly looking down. Dear Kami, why did he feels so flustered for? This was his husband.
@sonchiildren
He'd been out at the farm with the others, harvest time had been in full swing thus most of the family had come together while double checking the plans he and chi-chi had worked on. The large array of plans and sketches all spread out on the tractors hood, tail ticking behind him as he'd watched everyone begin to get the assorted tools ready, yet something caught his attention almost immediately, something in the back of his mind screaming. It felt similar to when- he bursts right into the divine form, using its increased speed to arrive home just that much quicker. Something has happened to Chi-Chi and if someone has dared to hurt her in his absence.. He doesn't dare think on what he'd do. His concern paramount, the door nearly slams off it's hinges as he throws it open, ready to deliver some form of saiyan justice on whoever-
He skids to a stop, nearly tripping over the welcome home mat right at the entrance of the door. His hand placing against the nearby wall to stop himself, nails slightly digging into the painted wall, he'd repair it later as he blinks. Tail puffed up behind him, the intense heat from the form expels gently, more like a quick wave of heat that soon leaves, it sure wasn't leaving his face though!
"Chi-Chi?" Is his quiet stammer of his wife-turned-husband's name, blood rushing to his face and the adrenaline catching up to him. Maybe he was about to faint from surprise he sure does feel weak in the knees for some reason!
