The Birth of Venus

I’ve been making posts where I dive into certain artworks depicting Lady Aphrodite (or Venus)! I’ve covered the Birth of Venus (Both the ones by Botticelli and Cabanel), Venus Victrix, Venus Anadyomene, and Venus Verticordia. Today’s painting is the Birth of Venus by Fragonard.

Fragonard

Jean-Honoré Fragonard, a French painter and printmaker, was born April 5, 1732 in Grasse, France and died August 22, 1806 in Paris at the age of 74. He painted in the Rococo style, with many of his paintings showing off his beliefs in hedonism. Fragonard painted more than 550 paintings in his lifetime, with notable works including The Swing, A Young Girl Reading, and The Bolt. Not much is known about many of his paintings.

Description of the Painting

Venus sits on a wave, tended to by many women. All appear to be nude, and some appear to have fish tails. Some hold flowers or shells, while most hold nothing.

Neither of my Christian parents know anything about Greek mythology or Hellenism but my father owns this!? Quite literally the birth of Venus?! It's like a small container, but it is so cool! I don't worship Lady Aphrodite, but this is beautiful.

Ah, you want to hear about some gods and goddess, do you? That's fine. We shall start big and go small....as do most gods and goddesses throughout the years when their iterations get lost throughout time....Let us start with the Universe....

Name: their true name is unknown, but they go by Universe just to make it easier on the mortals

Age: as old as all of the universe

Species: unknown, can shapeshift

Gender: they have no gender, but are fine with being seen as any gender while their main body is female presenting

Powers: able to control the universe, able to create anything, able to breathe life into anything, able to calm anything and everything around them, can erase/replace/lock/restore memories, nothing can die when within the presence of the main body(not the universe itself per say, but the humanoid body of the universe), able to see into different dimensions, and able to control everything

God of: Life, Creation, Peace, Memories, and Birth(or the 'original' concept of the universe for a second, before their younger twin, the god of Chaos and Destruction, came into being)

Gaia’s Hunger

Gaia was a fertility goddess, so it was perfectly natural to shudder with sudden orgasmic bliss as she birthed her newest daughter. She lay on her stomach upon a thick and plush pillow that was larger than most beds. The goddess was big, tall, and generously round seeing as she was in a state of constant feeding and pregnancy.
