In the Ballad of Lost Hollow there are so many tragic romances and people separated from their loved ones. In the fake backstories Lupe sacrifices herself for Hank, Henry's boyfriend leaves him, Helen is separated from her mother and sister who join the carnival. Also the nature of the cabaret is that they're separated from everyone else. Shira and Helen are actually separated as well. Raven and Lloyd are separated, Mary lost her husband and children. And in this narrative that is so hostile to lovers (both the narrative narrative and the overall narrative of Lost Hollow) Helen and Han still fall in love. But it's so short lived. They fall victim to the same fate as all the over lovers. They never even got to have a relationship before Helen sacrificed herself

Did We Just Dodge A Bullet?
Ugh!!!:
https://fandomwire.com/disney-reportedly-shot-down-damon-lindelofs-plan-to-cast-helen-mirren-as-older-rey-skywalker-in-a-star-wars-movie/
Thank God they shot Damon Lindelof out of a cannon before he could dig Star Wars’s cinematic hole even deeper.  Helen Mirren is of course a terrific actress but I passionately hate the idea of aging Rey 60 years now.  If George Lucas wanted to make Episode VII in 1993 with some other old geezers playing Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia instead of Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher there would’ve been a revolt.  It just seems bizarre that Lindelof would’ve wanted to do that when you’ve got 31 year old Daisy Ridley walking around right now, a golden opportunity for fans to grow along with Rey as she is in her prime.
So why would you take a young character and age her 60 years, making her approximately 80?
To kill her off, of course!  And maybe make sure the rest of your sequel faves are dead too.  Why would they do that?  To quickly bury the sequel trilogy?  Maybe.  There are other reasons I’d suspect but I probably shouldn’t talk about them until I know more.
I guess Lucasfilm must’ve realized it would be a huge bummer to kill off Rey at a time when most of us still think of her as young.  (The NJO flick will come out at TFA’s 10th anniversary.)  Worse yet, you would’ve had the ludicrous spectacle of Rey almost dying and Ben Solo giving his life to revive hers, only to see her die in the very next movie.  And honestly, no disrespect to Dame Helen Mirren but a big chunk of Rey’s charm is Daisy herself.  Thankfully they came to their senses at Lucasfilm and showed Lindelof the door.
I just hope the new guy’s script doesn’t suck too.
(And oh yeah, there’s a looming WGA strike.)

Wait, I need to put my clown shoes on.
So.... Maddie saying "third time's the charm' about the romcom movie... Like Eddie has with Shannon, Ana, Bu-
(It definitely took Madney more than three 'times' to be together, so it's not like she was talking about herself)
And Buck saying "and it took me three times to get it right" like Abby, Ali, Taylor, Ed-
Am I crazy here? Probably.

One of the reasons why I love buddie is because of how Eddie looks whenever Buck is talking about something random (you know the look).
Because of all the trivia-knowing characters around, Buck is always listened to, always cared for by Eddie.
If I think about other characters like him - Sheldon Cooper, Spencer Reid, Temperance Brennan, just to cite a few - they’re mocked all the time for knowing stuff, even by their significant others.
But then you have Buck, talking about natural disasters, about the animals at the LA zoo, with Eddie right there looking at him fondly. And also picking up some trivia to talk about on his own.
This is love.

Let's make one thing very clear: just because it's two male characters being together, doesn't mean it's the same couple in different universes.

The most emotional part about the Harry Potter reunion was Jason Isaacs and Tom Felton talking about Helen McCrory and. Tom saying how he looked up to her was really touching.
And also Jason saying that Draco is his hero.
I just… I just love them.
The happiest part was the one about Gary and Dan. Gary would have played Sirius for 15 years, I’m sure of it.

HOW LIKELY THE AVATARS ARE TO VAPE
 Jane Prentiss
Jane might have taken up vaping while she was still mostly human - I see her being a smoker and trying to quit the habit - but every since she became 75% worms, she doesn’t vape as much anymore. It’s basically like setting a bug bomb in her lungs every time, and she’s not here for that.
1/5, might vape if she wasn’t a burlap sack full of bugs
Jared Hopworth
While I’m tempted to say that Jared uses all the off-brand vape fluids because he has 57 lungs and it doesn’t matter if a few of them get some horrible vape-disease, I cannot deny myself the truth. Jared does not vape. He’s been smoking cigarettes since he was 13, he’s not going to stop now.
0/5, this old-fashioned son of a gun will stick with his smokes, thank you very much
Jude Perry
Fuck. Yes. Fuck. Yes. Fuck. Yes. Jude has the best vape rig you’ve ever seen. One mili-ohm of resistance. She takes a hit and the vape melts. She’s inhaling the plastic fumes. She’s inaling the molten lead. She’s blowing a smoke ring now - my god, it’s two smoke rings. They’re connected. They’re both shaped like female signs. She winks at you. You are a lesbian.
5/5, Jude is saying gay rights doing sick vape tricks twenty-four-sev
Peter Lukas
Peter’s tried to vape a few times, but he can’t get ahold of the dang thing. He likes that he can get a nice, strong, minty vape, though. He’s just more of a pipe guy in his heart. But, to be fair, there was one time where he took a huge rip off of it, blew a giant cloud of smoke, and disappeared himself, and he thought that was pretty badass.
2/5, will vape for a laugh but that’s it
Annabelle Cane
What a silly question, asking if Annabelle vapes! She doesn’t vape. You vape. She was just talking to you, remember? She was rating everyone she knew on how likely they are to vape, and it just so happens that you’re at the top of her list.
5/5, you are the most likely to vape and least likely to wonder what’s in it
Michael/Helen
Neither of the physical incarnations of The Spiral have actually come across a vape, but if they did? Can you even imagine? They would blow a nine dimensional vape cloud at you, and make no mistake - you would die from it. Its geometries would pierce your skull and kill you instantly, but fuck, that’s a cool trick. That’s bad ass, dude, I wish I could do that.
4/5, I eagerly await them pocketting a vape off one of their victims
Maxwell Rayner
Miserable old man. He hates any form of light or fire, and that includes vapes. But, credit where credit is due - he did try to vape his soul into a kid that one time.
1/5, vaped once and was shot to death immediately
Michael Crew
I can’t imagine that Michael would be too fond on anything electronic, given his experiences as a child. And besides, while you’re out there blowing smoke clouds like some sort of plebian, he’s out here falling through his sky dimension, breathing in real clouds.
0/5, will not vape and will not admit it’s because he’s afraid of getting shocked by it
Jonathan Sims
I thought about this for a while, and you know that thing where there’s always a tape recorder right by John when he needs it? That, but with a vape pen.
3/5, it’s 2 AM and I’m too tired to think of anything funnier for Jon
Elias Bouchard
I could really see Elias vaping. Canonically, he was “a bit of a pothead” when he was younger, so he’s definitely getting that Jimmy-Buffet-brand 100% THC vape juice. Plus, you know he’s out there sending Basira down to Guatemala to retrieve what he says is a very important relic needed to stop the apocalypse, but really it’s just a really kickass vape that you can’t get in the UK. He’s gotten his vape confiscated 8 times now, and every time he just pulls a couple strings to get a new one.
5/5, will manipulate you into getting him a new vape
Tom Han
The fuck’s wrong with you? You can’t vape in a butcher shop. That’s not up to OSHA standards.
3/5, he might vape, but never inside because he has some sense of decorum
Simon Fairchild
THIS GRANDPA VAPES
5/5, Simon Fairchild is ripping the dankest cotton everyday

Happy Birthday TJ!
It’s officially the 25th, so here’s a Simpsons birthday fic for @pascalls featuring Rev. Lovejoy and his OC Charlie Hope you like it, and happy birthday!
The rain was coming down in sheets against the windshield, and how the reverend could drive in this, Charlie would never know. He could barely see anything but a wavering glimpse of a dark horizon just beyond the water as it danced on the glass. It was mesmerizing the way it changed in so many beautiful colors after catching the headlights or the neon glow of the dash.
Silence filled the car - quite the difference from just the previous hour.
Their words from before echoed in his head.
“I ask you to bring one thing, just one thing, Charlie, and you can’t even do that.” Reverend Lovejoy’s voice was a booming authority in his station wagon - even above the rain from God. “It’s your mask for Christ’s sake. What made you think you could leave it behind?
“I told you, I was busy.” He snapped back. This argument had been on and off for hours now, as if fighting over it was going to suddenly change things and manifest his doctor’s mask into his lap. “Your neighbor was having a cookout when we packed. You really think I wasn’t about to take some of those ribs out of the cooler? Dude wasn’t even using them. Yet.”
“Well great. Can’t wait to go through a checkpoint and explain to an officer of the law that I have an abomination of God in my car because you were too busy being a fat ass to bring your stupid plaque mask.”
“You’re mad cause you’re jealous.” Charlie smirked.
“Of what?”
“My ass.”
“No, I’m mad because you’re not thinking straight, and you’re letting your cockiness override your priorities.”
“I heard you the first time, Timmy. You’re mad my ass is cute.” Charlie leaned back and popped one of the last candies in his bag into his mouth. “By the way, we’re out of road snacks.”
“You’re not even listening to me!” His rage was insistent and direct, despite the fact he had to keep his eyes on the road in those poor weather conditions. “I’m trying to explain to you that from what I’ve seen lately, you’ve been wallowing in your sloth and ignorance to the point you’re making shit decisions, and it’s going to come back and bite you in the ass.”
“The fuck you mean ‘Lately’?”
“Again, you’re not listening to a thing I’m-”
“-No, I know what you’re saying.” Charlie crumbled up the plastic bag and tossed it to the floorboard. “Full offense, Your Holiness, but I told you the first time, I thought I had it in the trunk. Okay? I thought. I thought it was there, so I didn’t check and got myself a snack before hitting the road instead. It’s a simple mistake anyone can make. You want me to say sorry and for what? Just to stroke your ego that you were right?”
“There’s a difference between a simple mistake and not taking priority in something as important as your facial wear, Charlie.”
“What, you mean like your shit choice in marrying Helen?” A grin appeared on his face, hoping to see his nerves on their last straw.
Lovejoy rubbed his temples with the tips of his fingers, continuing to concentrate on the road. “You know, one of these days-”
“-Oh here we go, the ‘one of these days’ speeches. Can you just drop it and turn up the radio?”
The preacher slapped his hand away from turning the dial.
“No. Would you rather I talk down to you like a parishioner instead? Is that it? You need to be talked down to like a child?”
“No, I want-”
“-Want me to preach to you?”
“No! But oh, excuse me, I’m sorry, Reverend. I didn’t realize you wanted someone like Ned Flanders on this trip with you.”
“Charlie-”
He threw his hands up in wild antics as he shouted. “HIGH DIDDLY-HO REVEREND! SURE IS A BIT OF A WET ONE OUTSIDE ISN’T IT? TOO DAGGUM-DIDDLY BAD THAT GOD’S GOTTA BE CRYING THEM EYES OUT OVER ALL THE GOSH-IDDLY-DARN SINNERS OF THE WORLD!-”
“-Charlie-”!
“-Oh I’m sorry, not FLANDERS enough for you? Want me to grow out my mustache a little, get on my knees and suck your di-”
His sentence was cut short when Lovejoy slammed a foot on the brake which pushed Charlie forward, lifting him from his seat. His seatbelt held him tight, holding steadfast and trying to pull him back as if it were a fisherman trying to reel in his catch from a raging sea.
Lovejoy’s hand found its way to Charlie’s chest to hold him there, both of them suspended in time - an honest but futile parental habit to protect a loved one from the windshield in such circumstances on the road.
But when the car skidded to a stop, both men slammed back against their car seats and the world, which became still again, spun in their vision while Charlie’s brain felt swished around like Jell-O.
“Wha..fuck.” Charlie took hold of his head in an effort to stop the spinning. “What did you do that for-”
“Jesus.”
Charlie adjusted his glasses that sat crooked on his nose. As soon as he had, he noticed the reverend had unbuckled his seatbelt and tossed it aside as he did his door. He watched as he stepped out in the pouring rain - his eyes fixated on something on the road.
Charlie’s eyes followed to a mass heap in front of the car, and he tried to wipe away the fog on the windshield to get a better look at what the reverend had seen.
In the headlights, Lovejoy’s body raced across the road and cast shadows over an overturned car that was forgotten by the shoulder. Charlie’s ears perked up and he leaned forward onto the dashboard to get a better look at the events unfolded.
A hand was stretched out from the driver’s side window - pale compared to the darkness around it. Lovejoy was beside the arm, bent down with a hand over his face to either see or speak to whoever had been driving the vehicle.
Charlie was about to make his exit and see the commotion for himself, but more headlights appeared as a scene was beginning to unfold. Without his mask, he crouched down low...hoping not to be seen as he watched.
Several people poured into the rain with anything they had at their disposal to help whoever was in the car. The driver’s side was completely crushed while they did everything they could to pry open the passenger side - all while the rain continued to beat down heavily upon them.
But while all this happened, Charlie couldn’t take his eyes off the reverend who now held that weak, outstretched hand in both of his. His head was lowered as if speaking to whoever was inside. It was hard to see, but his lips were moving, eyes closed. He was praying. The headlight glared off the cross around his neck. He must have pulled out when Charlie wasn’t looking.
When the red lights of a fire engine came into his view, Charlie’s attention was taken elsewhere, and he quickly slid into the backseat and threw an old tarp over his body.
It will be over soon, he told himself. It had to be.
-
Reverend Lovejoy was still wet even half an hour later after they left the scene. By the time he got back into the car and started down the road in silence, Charlie hesitated for several minutes before crawling his way back up into the passenger seat.
That’s where he sat now. In silence for most of their continuation into their trip.
The rain still poured.
“...Are they okay?” Charlie finally asked.
The other didn’t speak. He only slouched over onto the door with his chin in his hand, his other on the wheel.
Charlie felt his heart beating as he sat forward again, staring out of the glass. It wasn’t beating fast, his heart. It wasn’t beating slow either. It was only beating. Beating as it normally did, but louder. As if it were reminding him in a cruel way that he was alive.
And that was a terrifying thought.
A sign passed them by and flashed in the headlights.
“Pull over up here,” he said. “At the rest stop.”
Lovejoy did so, but whether or not he did it on his own or because Charlie asked it of him, he didn’t know. All he cared for was getting out of that car by the time Lovejoy pulled up into the first spot by the restrooms and vending machines. He hadn’t even put it in Park before Charlie was out the door and vomiting in the closest trash can he could get to. Unfortunately for whoever had to clean this place in the morning, it was an enclosed can and undigested meat and sour candies went spilling out into the can’s ashtray. It mixed with the rain water and old Laramie butts which only made his condition worse and he heaved out another round.
Inside the car, Lovejoy was focusing on his own breathing, just thankful to God he didn’t have to hear the sounds of Charlie’s actions over the thundering rain. His head leaned back against the headrest, and he combed his fingers through his loose strands of hair - his gel completely washed out. His ears were ringing.
A few moments later, the passenger door opened again, and Charlie held his tail as he plopped down into the seat, his arm cradling several bags of chips and cookies from the vending machine.
“Do you think that’s a good idea?” He asked Charlie.
“No. But it’s my idea.” He pulled his seat lever to let the back fold down, and he lay back, taking one of the bags between his claws to open. His eyes were closed as he chewed the first few chips, trying to get the vile taste out of his mouth with salt and preservatives. It barely worked. “Fucking knock off brands…”
Lovejoy looked at the clock. It was almost midnight.
Charlie’s ears perked when he heard the click of a lever, and he glanced over to see Lovejoy joining him by reclining his seat to lay back too. His left arm was folded over his eyes to block out the orange glow of the lamps of the rest area.
His other hand was held out to Charlie.
Charlie looked at it. That hand - those nimble fingers he often kissed to tease him - that same hand held a dying human in comfort tonight. The last hand that poor human would ever hold. It was his.
His ears wilted...but only because he knew he wasn’t been watched.
He wanted to touch it, and...maybe his abomination of a hand could bring some comfort to him - if he needed such a thing. His fingers were so close to him, and he almost gently placed a hand in his when Lovejoy’s deadpan voice filled the space between them.
“Chip, Charlie.”
He didn’t say anything, but placed the largest one he could find in his palm.
Anything for him.

Underrated Fantasy Recommendations
Prompted by a request from a reader, here are some favorites of mine that aren’t as discussed or posted about on these platforms: a quick list of underrated fantasies that I think should get more attention.
These are all underrated from my point of view and specifically on the platforms of booklr and bookstagram, rather than from a possibly more mainstream point of view.
Iron Cast by Destiny Soria: A YA fantasy standalone with strong female friendships. In 1919 Boston, hemopaths have a strong iron aversion as well as magical and mind-controlling powers. They are illegal and if caught, are imprisoned in horrific asylums; but underground clubs use the hemopaths’ powers to enhance the music and theater of the day. The magic is gorgeous, and Ada and Corrine’s love for each other sparkles as the heart of the book.
The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro: An adult fantasy set after the time of King Arthur that looks at a true love story. An old couple sets out to find their son in a land of ogres and witches. They are haunted by a mist which seems to take their memories, but as they travel onwards, they begin to worry that if they regain their memories, they’ll regain both the good and the bad memories that they experienced together. Literary, lush, and romantic, this fantasy plays on the tropes of epic fantasy but is easy to read and quick to touch the heart.
Among Others by Jo Walton: Book lovers will love this one; it’s one of those fantasy novels that really touches on the effect books can have on a life. Walton writes a complicated sense of magic, and I appreciate how she frames magic as seeming like just coincidence in the real world. It’s also a good coming-of-age and boarding school story.
My Mother She Killed Me, My Father He Ate Me: Forty New Fairy Tales edited by Kate Bernheimer: Have you read every fairytale retelling under the sun? Well have forty more. It has some of my all-time favorite fantasy stories, including “The Color Master” by Aimee Bender, "First Day of Snow" by Naoko Awa, "The Mermaid in the Tree" by Timothy Schaffert, and "The Brother and the Bird" by Alissa Nutting. The stories hint at, adapt, and question stories by the Grimm brothers, Hans Christian Andersen, and more—they are easy enough to enjoy on their own, but fantasy lovers especially will recognize and rejoice in the callbacks to old tales.
The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker: It seems like everyone has read The Night Circus, and yet somehow not this gorgeous, similarly lush fantasy standalone. An incredibly written fantasy novel that's also about immigration, assimilation, and belief in God. Chava, a golem whose rabbi dies at sea and who is unmoored on her arrival in New York in 1899; Ahmad, a jinni born in the ancient Syrian desert and “freed” in the city; they become unlikely friends.

Help me, Carl-Gus Jungobi, you’re my only hope
[prolonged deliberation on Goethe’s Faust effing up his task of achieving symbolic individuation equated with redemption by inserting himself for Paris with Helen I would love to know what CG would have to say about self insert fanfiction]
This is probably the deeper reason why Faust’s final rejuvenation takes place only in the post-mortal state, i.e., is projected into the future. [Psychology and Alchemy]
Taste that. Rejuvenation in the post-mortal state

Projected into the future
Tumblr media
Hi, this here is Anakin’s son, daughter and future father of his grandson in one shot while Anakin appears as a force ghost.
Anakin’s redemption did not take place, it is taking place through his offspring – his future – and I’m afraid Ben is very much a part of it.
I’d argue that the main reason why the frequent belief that Anakin’s redemption needs a counterbalance in form of Ben’s ultimate fall is based on the fact that the redemption story most influential in western culture – that of humanity through death and resurrection of Jesus Christ – does have an unredeemed counterbalance – Judas (and a disclaimer: I do not refer to The Second Testament for any sort of religious agenda, I treat it as an influential cultural text it is – and a manifestation of collective unconscious, that’s why I can compare it to ancient mythologies). But that assumption is based on a false belief that Anakin’s redemption was complete rather than projected into the future. Redemption of humanity through Christ is complete as Christ’s resurrection is in soul and body.
Let’s take a look at two other mythical resurrections/redemptions – though I’ll allow myself to omit most of the context (I’m still sticking to the western world, because I believe it’s the most influential for most of SW audience but also because, confessedly, I cannot claim proficiency in other myths, if someone can share some themes, please do). An example of future resurrection balanced by damnation is Baldur vs. this handsome fella
Tumblr media
For causing Baldur’s death Loki is condemned to lie under venomous snake’s fangs until Ragnarok and it’s only thanks to Sigyn, definitely the most underappreciated character of any mythology, that we don’t have permanent earthquakes. Now, this isn’t a damnation of the same kind as Judas’s, since Loki’s actual fate is the same as all other gods’ – to be destroyed during the Ragnarok you have to give it to the Nordic people, coming up with a mythology and ending it with everyone killing each other. BUT Baldur’s resurrection also isn’t as complete as Christ’s as it will only happen in the renewed world after Ragnarok, right now he’s sitting underground with Cate Blanchett. So, maybe Osiris vs. Seth? I would argue that’s the best parallel to Star Wars – Osiris is resurrected but stays forever in the underworld, but Seth also doesn’t suffer any eternal damnation. He’s an ambiguous deity in the fact that despite being an “antagonist” to Horus, after their fight is over he supports pharaohs’ rule and helps Ra keep away the monster of chaos (a hundred StarKillers anyone?). Granted, he becomes infertile in the process (attractiveness of force deprivation theme?) but that’s for trying to kill Osiris’ son, would make little sense if he was Osiris’ only offspring (btw, I’d argue that’s exactly why old EU gave Han and Leia two children, a good one and a bad one).
One could argue of course that Anakin’s redemption through the future can be done on the ideal level only – he saved Luke and Luke has now passed on the jedi tradition onto Rey. Yeah, that sounds attractive. But it wasn’t a jedi knight Anakin saved, wasn’t it? When fried by Palps Luke didn’t call upon Anakin’s jedi code only yelled Father, please. What’s more Anakin had two children. Luke has a sister Anakin asked him to tell he was right about him. And I believe Luke told this to Leia. But did she accept that? Confessedly, she had every reason not to. Oh, she could detach Anakin Skywalker from the sith lord who mind probed her and held her in place to watch the destruction of her home planet, but to accept Luke was right about Darth Vader?
Tumblr media
In a way, Leia did the most epic Nooooo in Skywalker story.
Meme should continue through a meme and only can through a gene, but gene needs to continue through a gene, something the Skywalker twins did not accept and thus ended up with galaxy and their family again in turmoil. Luke – for it was Luke who’s the original Vader fanboy of this saga albeit unknowingly, not Kylo – badly wanted to continue the jedi meme (in its simulacric form, btw) through his nephew, the mighty Skywalker blood, which could be, can still be, but never had to be. Leia, on the other hand, thought she can have a child of Anakin’s meme and not Vader’s gene, which simply can’t be as it’s based on a lie.
So what, Anakin can get a redemption and other characters not because, what, he had children? Well, yeah. That’s a redemption through love at its symbolic best.
To cut a long story short, Ben Solo doesn’t have a husk of legacy to upkeep (that’s what he thinks, you know!), he has grandfather’s redemption to make real.
Tumblr media
Master Skywalker or how I learned to nourish meme and love a gene
Battle of Crait is one of the most epic moments in Star Wars and I’ll fight anyone who’ll tell me otherwise. It is the most Luke Skywalker thing that could have happened, as it is Luke doing for himself what he has previously done for his father, if only temporarily – reattaching the meaning to the simulacrum, thus resurrecting the symbol. And symbols have great power, as they give us inspiration, hope and strength when we fall down. Luminous creatures we are, not that crude matter and to erase the symbols or identify them with simulacra is to make everything material only.
Tumblr media
But there’s an extremely important thing – Luke could only rescue the Resistance and symbolically inspire new fighters, bring back the inspiring legend, because he reattached this legend to the man who failed his nephew – and that by admitting this failure, not denying it, as he tried to just a day earlier. To all out there who believe Luke was right to consider killing Ben, that the darkness he saw in him was a decided plan – why would he lie about it, to himself much more so than Rey? If he knew that what he considered was right and faltered by the softness of his heart, why not just come clean about it? But he knows that what he did was wrong and therefore, just for a moment, believes the only way for him to go back to rescuing the galaxy is to base it on a lie and hope for the best. Only Rey has already learned that what he told her wasn’t the truth and confronts him about it – notice that Luke is aggressively sending her away even though he wanted to go with her a moment earlier, precisely because he realises he’ll have to come clean. Now, Rey has no problem reconciling what he’s done with what she believes him to be, unlike both Luke and Ben – because they believed in a simulacrum and she believes in a symbol. Failures happen. But when she stretches Luke’s ls to him again – and remember right now she’s decided to go to Kylo, so I’d say what she’s actually doing isn’t asking him will you rejoin the fight? only will you go and confront him about what happened? it’s his legacy she’s stretching out to him in that moment! – he still can’t do this. In his eyes, he now gave up on the legend completely, it’s time to let the old things die, so he’ll go and burn the jedi tree along with the texts. But because his anger directed at the jedi simulacra is simply overclinging to them gone sour he can’t bring himself to even burn the tree. And it’s a nice tree isn’t it? So Yoda has to effing call a thunder from the afterlife to do that for him – but don’t forget, the books aren’t there already! It’s highly symbolic that Luke never bothered to read the texts, as exhibited by the most realistic padawan moment in the saga as he channels a student who was too lazy to do his homework for six years of having nothing else to do, he was sorta expecting them to have magic powers of their own?
But, in the end, he understands that his legend isn’t something inherently wrong but also that it doesn’t have to be infallible. His failure towards Ben and the way he apologised for that failure are his legend and legacy – just as the legend of Anakin’s fall and redemption he let start all those years ago. But again, Anakin’s redemption isn’t complete – and neither will be Luke’s (he dies in that moment after all) if his apology will have no influence on Ben.
Allow me to draw a timeline of Star Wars message:
after ot they become an inspiring story of hope and redemption
after prequels they become an overly selfconscious myth of redemption as the fall has been tailored exactly for the payment
right now they are a simulacrum of redemption as it became clear Anakin’s redemption was half-assed
It can be argued that the message can be carried on despite being false at a core. And does that sound like Rey growing to be a healthy good person basing on her denial of the truth about her parents? Yes, I think it should. There are characters like Galen, Bodhi or, again, according to some idiots, Finn – but they’re all incomplete too. Finn... really, his story isn’t a redemption, he’s not an evil man in need of paying for his sins, he’s a goddamn hero whose moral sense wasn’t killed by years of indoctrination and I want to punch anyone who thinks this beautiful jewel needs to get redeemed for anything. But Galen’s and Bodhi’s “redemptions” aren’t complete either – they both die, in Galen’s case so does his daughter, their redemptions are purely ideal in helping destroy the Empire. And complete redemption is in life, in soul and body. To say those other diamonds of souls needed redemption is a result of lie around Anakin, thinking his redemption was complete.
And that’s why I think there’s epic – though far from permanent – fall in store for Rey. But also that the sand castle of lies Snoke built around Ben can’t last.
The message of hope and redemption Star Wars are associated with doesn’t have to be carried by a Skywalker. But only a Skywalker can give them the message of hope and redemption, make it true. Meaning needs to be reattached to the simulacrum, gene to a meme, light to dark, ideal to matter and I could b*tch for hours about how they’ve been associated to male and female for thousands of years and their unison by marriage.
A rose is a Rose is a Tico – some reflections on symbolism in postmodern era
Sequels are also a great occasion to reflect on use of symbolism in modern epic (pop)art. Symbols have become so widespread, so conventionalised, that – again – it seems the right thing to do is throw away symbolic language as a dead husk or leave them be only as empty conventions. Now, there are some things which are conventional enough to be purely conventional and throwing them away gives them more value than they’re worth – think French revolutionists trying to do away with a seven day week or ask yourselves how many people you know still worship thunder on Thursdays watching Thor doesn’t count. But those are pure conventions of everyday life and epic storytelling should appeal to deeper levels of our psyche. There’s a danger in overreliance on symbols – for example, violence in the originals was symbolical to the point of seeming banal – but they’re still a useful way of expressing that which in conceptual terms would be too difficult or plain impossible. Nowadays there are loads of symbol dictionaries so it’s easy to think of them as something to be decoded – but symbols aren’t to be decoded only to be interpreted, depending on their context. “A bird” can’t mean a lion but it can mean swallow, sparrow, pigeon, eagle, vulture, etc. alike. TBH, that’s why I’d say reylos seem like we’re “reaching” – we’re interpreting, debating with the text, asking it questions rather than decoding separate elements I don’t want to be indiscriminate of course there are non-reylos who do interpret and many reylos just see two hotties to be together, but  the latter aren’t accused of reaching. Intrepreting means asking a question of the meaning, not thinking the meaning is obvious. I don’t want to make another huge elaboration, so I’ll just take some examples of use of symbolism in Star Wars and how they should and shouldn’t be treated, as well as two simulacric husks which still need to be dug beyond.
Names and pseudonyms – a name is always symbolic of identity, though it should be remembered that they aren’t given like eye colour, they belong to the order of meme that becomes one with our identity as we grow. I think it’s pretty clear that Han has been literally baptised by the Empire and more importantly, never had a problem with that. He accepted this surname as it was an abstraction of what he was – alone, he didn’t have to throw it away because of being given by the bad guys I also think it’s not insignificant the imperial official is actually a pretty human character but that’s another matter. What I want to focus upon though, are the characters with two names, one for their selves and one for their shadows: Sheev Palpatine – Sidious, Dooku – Tyrranus, Anakin Skywalker – Vader, Ben Solo – Kylo Ren. I don’t want to delve into their ethymologies, but rather into their use. The difference between the two latter and two former lies in difficulty of switching between the two personas. Vader gets angered when Luke calls him Anakin, Kylo does react when he’s called Ben but doesn’t refer to himself this way – according to the novelization, in the throne room, while offering Rey the galaxy, he reasserts that it’s no longer his name. Now, one’s willing to view this as a manipulative play on his side, they think I should keep those names apart but I’m actually one and okay with it, but, just like with everything else in the throne room, he’s lying to himself not less than Rey, like a good setient simulacrum should. His manipulation is essentially innocent because he believes what he’s saying – compare it to Snoke who knew perfectly well Ben’s family loved him – and when he offers himself to Rey he offers her Kylo Ren, the simulacrum believing itself to be reality, just as he doesn’t say he’ll rescue the Resistance if she stays with him. What would be terrifying is if he wanted to be referred to as Ben, because that would mean his identity is as malleable as he’d like it to be. Such is the case with Dooku, who barely refers to himself as Tyrranus and why the hell should he, he’s a politician first sith lord second and more importantly, Sheev. Palpatine has no problems jumping between Palpatine, Sidious, Emperor and of course he’s all time favourite, The Senate.
Tumblr media
Masks – I already explained how I think the bridge scene should actually be interpreted, but I bring it back as an excellent case of decoding vs. interpretation. Removal of the mask is decoded as revelation of the true persona and this is exactly what Kylo Ben thinks he’s doing. And yes, he reveals his true persona – only this persona is one feeling remorse for what he’s done.
Another good decoding vs. interpretation scene is Crait showdown – Kylo Ben is fighting a ghost, a shadow. Decoding is that it’s an expression of how ungrounded his anger is. But neither he nor anyone other than Leia and Rey (and possibly Chewie and porgs?) know Luke to be a shadow and that shadow has very real effect, this time positive in saving the Resistance. I would say Luke letting Leia know that he’s a projection is a symbolic explanation to his sister of what happened to her son. Of course, Leia still doesn’t know that Luke considered killing Ben, but now she knows he wouldn’t have actually done it – and I would argue before the scene is over, Ben himself gets a glimpse of this fact.
There’s also Anakin’s parthenogenesis to be reconsidered. To see that as a simulacrum of divine bloodline is the simplest thing to do – as well as one raising the most resentment, especially among those who think parthenogenesis is culturally exclusive to Jesus. But that’s avoiding the question of what actually took place. An embodied hierophany isn’t an origin of a special hero only an act of divinity’s direct intervention in linear historical time – thus, Anakin stops being the chosen one, one to bring balance to the force, but neither is it a concept to be rejected as some esoteric bs, but rather his birth sets in motion a series of events leading to that balance.
And lastly, decoding Snoke as an abuser isn’t equivalent with interpreting a twenty year long abuse, something which cannot be shaken off by killing the abuser. In this way I could argue Kylo Ben at the end of TLJ could turn out to be symbolic for oversimplified attitude towards stormtrooper rebellion – free them before they’ll want freedom and you’ll end up with them rebuilding the cage they’re used to.
A general rule I would apply is that non humanoids (moons, suns, planets, porgs) are rather reliable symbols. Characters may be trying to deceive each other and themselves but I don’t think creators are trying to deceive the audience. So if a kyber crystal cracks, either because of how difficult it was to make it bleed or because two characters who should be in tune are far from it – there’s a good chance things are not the way they should be. Again, symbolic language isn’t bad in itself.
Evil eyes – one of the arguments most frequently raised for bendemption is that Kylo has never had evil sith eyes. Now, you could say, neither had Dooku and he died but that’s another thing showing Kylo’s death would be a rehash, not his redemption. Another argument could be that Disney simply felt that effect was cheesy and decided to never use it again. But what should be done is to ask ourselves what do those evil yellow eyes actually mean. The way eyes look is symbolic of the way eyes see. Siths have venomous yellow eyes because they see the world through their hatred and lust for power, not because EVIL. Snoke has empty black eyes in TFA because he can see no depth in the world, sees only emptiness, and cold blue in TLJ as everything is coldly subjugatable to him. It has also been pointed out that the closest we got to sith yellow in the sequels is Hux during the destruction of Hosian system.
Tumblr media
And I agree, it was a conscious move. As was this.
Tumblr media
But lightsaber refelected in Kylo’s eyes is red, associated with anger – and anger is but a path to the dark side, not dark side itself. So, do I expect Armitage to get actual sith yellow eyes? No, not really, because it was a bit cheesy what matters is the visual effect, so it could be another light reflection. It could also be argued that force sensitives do perceive the world in a slightly different manner than others, there is a difference in their very souls which finds manifestations in their bodies. What could happen and make me totally flip if the trailers greeted us with evil yellow eyes... by Rey.
One of the husks I think Star Wars still has to shed and why I can see dark!Rey happening is that femininity has become overidentified with good. The only more or less fleshed out female villain in the main story so far is Phasma and she sure has room for improvement. Alternative, and that’s another thing which would make me flip, is epix giving us Rae Sloane, an evil matriarch, an anti-Leia, if you like. Preferably, both. And I want to underline I write that as a feminist, I’m just tired of watching infallible or driven to villainy by men female characters, I’m a woman and I effed up in life, Padme’s patience gave me more complexes than Barbie’s waist ever could.
And another husk to be shed is... democracy. That sounds bad, I know, so let me elaborate. Democracy has become an empty word, on Earth and in GFFA alike. It became an equivalent of good rule, interpretable to preference. You know what is a “Democratic People’s Republic”? North Korea. And if you tell me there has never been a good emperor, I call bs on your knowledge of history whereas if you stammer sth about SW being a metaphor to be abstracted from history then at best I ask you sweetly then what’s wrong with a good Renperor and at worst sue for calling me a nazi apologist over that abstract metaphor. Now, I’m not saying a point should be made that authoritarian rule is anything good – rather, seeing Renperor’s labour’s lost should make us reflect why democracy is the best regime anyone ever came up with though still the worst there is. Rise of sympathies towards authoritarianism (usually going by the name of “enlightened despotism”) is another phenomenon visible around the globe and not always among uneducated people in want of agency only those who see how mishandled democracy can go astray. Again, there have been good emperors, so alternative sounds better than trying to fix the fallible regime. To show such people how their symbols get vanquished by good democrats will only fuel their resentment as they will feel misunderstood (that’s not what they meant by their enlightened despotism) – remember, they’re the romantic rebels fighting globalist empire. To show them how such regime fails at establishing a lasting welfare could actually make them think.
Well, that sure was an experience. I have many thanks to those who have actually gone through all of my ramblings, congratulations on your patience. Hopefully, they provided you with some insight into postmodern popculture and how it doesn’t have to be husk running away from itself only can be actually a living organism

F9 last one baby let’s go
Oh yeah this is the dead dad flashback
Hey should I have put a spoiler warning on this. Spoiler warning for the entire Fast and Furious series
This is a very slow pit stop you shouldn’t be able to impart whole life lessons during one
I like that a driver just 100% died and the race is still going
God who is giving Charlize Theron these haircuts
Letty with the double layered white tank tops Sanja Hays it’s good to see you
Ok so terrain they’ve fought on: Cities, mountains, frozen sea, desert, suburbs, temperate forest, jungle, the sky. I think we might just be missing rural farmland but that may be lack of imagination on my part
God I love the trope of “throw away guns and just tackle them”
I feel like these movies are giving me unrealistic expectations for how easy it is to kick out a windshield
Hey it’s Justin Lin again! Welcome back, bud! I thought the driving looked supernaturally fast again
Hey that’s not a corona!
Hey it’s the FBI guy that got his nose broken by Brian twice. They bring just everybody back in these movies
Cipher is talking a lot of shit for a person with a bowl cut
It’s nice they let her wear her red leather pants in her clear box prison though
Another double tank top look from Letty I gotta rewatch these and count how many times that happens
I like them sprinkling in the possibility of bringing in supernatural elements in the future if they want
Mia!
Han!
These flashbacks have me wondering if they’ll do a prequel about young Dom and Letty getting the original family together, starting race wars, and starting stealing
“If you lose this race then you have to leave and never come back” I think I will not race then, personally
There’s the Corona
I like that Jakob is a super secret agent but he still tells his mechanic foster father where he’s going
I like that Letty and Mia just know how to use chopsticks
I like that Sean is just building rockets in Germany now. Again you really can just say whatever and then keep going
Helen Mirren in zebra print pumps outracing the cops in a muscle car through London
I don’t think that’s how embassies works
Hey Han lock your front door you’re gonna get murdered again
Not only do we get to see Mia finally beat people up but we get another lady on the team I love it
Han!!!
Big ol’ magnet big ol’ magnet big ol’ magnet
I love Ramsey so much especially as she yells at other drivers while driving terribly
Zip lining across the city seems like the least convenient or fast way to get around. Dom didn’t need a zip line he just ran and jumped you really are the worst Torretto Jakob
They really should give Cipher a chair or something she’s been standing the entire time
You know Jakob you could build a family like that if you weren’t being bad all the time stop acting like it’s Dom’s fault you don’t have friends
John Cena has 30% more face than the average person
Dom can you not sacrifice yourself for 5 minutes
“Dad had me sabotage his car because he wanted to throw the race” Could he not try driving slower
Space car space car space car
“As long as we obey the laws of physics we’ll be ok” love it, these movies left physics behind in the end credits of the first movie
How did Sean get a jet? Doesn’t matter!
Love the woman who saw a car shooting a gun coming up the street and laid on top of her dog while everyone else ran
I love getting to see Mia actually fight in the big ending I’ve been wanting this for 8 movies
Rome and Tej about to Thelma and Louise the satellite
Dom is surfing an overturned truck down a mountain
They have just so many magnets
Letty stop worrying about Dom God can’t kill him it’s fine
Hey Cipher also has the double tank top, and so is Letty again
I love that every movie ends like it’s the last in the series even though we all know it’s not
And some final Coronas
Aw and here’s Brian
Shout out to Gary Scott Thompson, Michael Brandt, Derek Haas, Eric Bergquist, Chris Morgan, Daniel Casey, Alfredo Botello and Justin Lin for writing the greatest story ever told
10/10, perfect series, no faults
Watching The Fast and the Furious
I love that not a single person in this movie can act, absolutely amazing
I love that the racing competition is called Race Wars and not a single person comments on that
I love that when trying to prove himself as a hardcore racer to Dom, Brian orders tuna on white bread with the crust cut off from Doms sister every day
I love the assertion that in Los Angeles there are parts of the city that literally hundreds of cars can congregate for street racing and it’s only after like a half hour that any cops notice
I love that the big heists the gang pulls are for DVD players
I love that the rival gang that’s a red herring just had a garage full of legally bought DVD players and it’s never explained
I love that they leave for a heist in the middle of the night and it’s clearly mid morning to afternoon when it happens, so like 6 hours after they drive out to the middle of the desert to wait
I love that they’re going 140 miles per hour on a highway with a semi truck and communicating by yelling from car to car, while in real life if you’re going over 50 with the windows kinda down you can’t hear the person in your passenger seat
I love that Brian wears Converse while drag racing
Love it, 9/10, I just wish we had a scene of the gang explaining how they fence hundreds of DVD players on a regular basis

The Morning After - The Golden Globes 2020 Edition
Tumblr media
Morning/Afternoon/Night have lost meaning to me in this post holiday stupor, but I assure you I watched Sunday night’s awards.  Our methods of media consumption have altered every so slightly each year that at least 1/3 of the celebrity outfits I was checking out this year came from my Twitter app compared to the big TV screen in front of me (which often had a split screen happening to begin with).  No matter, it made it all the easier to share via my own twitter and to send to friends who sent me their comments and input through the pre-show and ceremony.
Even more than usual, the Globes felt like a warm-up to me this year.  I’ve barely digested the turkey and finished my Top Films of the Decade list and we’re already off to the award season races.  As a result, I’m not quite prepared to comment on every single win/loss, but what I can say I have embedded in the list below:
Best Motion Picture — Drama
“The Irishman” (Netflix) “Joker” (Warner Bros.) “Marriage Story” (Netflix) “1917” (Universal) (WINNER) “The Two Popes” (Netflix)
1917 has rocketed to the top of my movies to see list as a result of last night’s Best Drama and Best Director win.  Need to see this before the SAG Awards.
Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy
“Dolemite Is My Name” (Netflix) “Jojo Rabbit” (Fox Searchlight) “Knives Out” (Lionsgate) “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” (Sony) (WINNER) “Rocketman” (Paramount)
Let it be known here and now, 2020 is going to be the first (and hopefully only) time I speak out against Quentin Tarantino winning an award.  I don’t dislike Once Upon A Time...In Hollywood, not at all, I just didn’t think it was anywhere near his best and in the awards race, there were far better this year. I’ve seen all the films in this category with the exception of Rocketman and I liked Jojo Rabbit and Knives out much more, and Dolemite is My Name equally as good as Once Upon A Time.
Best Actress in a Motion Picture — Drama
Cynthia Erivo (“Harriet”) Scarlett Johansson (“Marriage Story”) Saoirse Ronan (“Little Women”) Charlize Theron (“Bombshell”) Renée Zellweger (“Judy”) (WINNER)
I’ve actually only seen Marriage Story and Judy in this category. Renee is phenomenal no doubt, but part of me did question whether her performance would shine through an otherwise mediocre film.  Turns out it did.
Best Actor in a Motion Picture — Drama
Christian Bale (“Ford v Ferrari”) Antonio Banderas (“Pain and Glory”) Adam Driver (“Marriage Story”) Joaquin Phoenix (“Joker”) (WINNER) Jonathan Pryce (“The Two Popes”)
Joaquin was the favourite in his stacked category, but I recommend all of these performances (though The Two Popes slightly less as a film, not my cup of tea). I was really on the fence about his acceptance speech though, the delivery was channeling too much Joker though the message was in the right place.
Best Actress in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy
Ana de Armas (“Knives Out”) Awkwafina (“The Farewell”) (WINNER) Cate Blanchett (“Where’d You Go, Bernadette”) Beanie Feldstein (“Booksmart”) Emma Thompson (“Late Night”)
Another stacked category (I’m gonna make the assumption that Emma Thompson was great in Late Night), these are all movies to see.  Awkwafina being recognized in a non-comedic role is a boon for the Asian community. Sidenote: I seem to be in the minority when it comes to Where’d You Go Bernadette, but I quite liked that movie.
Best Actor in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy
Daniel Craig (“Knives Out”) Roman Griffin Davis (“Jojo Rabbit”) Leonardo DiCaprio (“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”) Taron Egerton (“Rocketman”) (WINNER) Eddie Murphy (“Dolemite Is My Name”)
I’ve not seen Taron Egerton’s performance but predicted he would win anyway.
Best Actress in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture
Kathy Bates (“Richard Jewell”) Annette Bening (“The Report”) Laura Dern (“Marriage Story”) (WINNER) Jennifer Lopez (“Hustlers”) Margot Robbie (“Bombshell”)
Should have been J. Lo. (opinion based on having seen 2 of the 5 performances)  Not that Laura Dern isn’t spectacular in everything she does, but is her character in Marriage Story not identical to her role in Big Little Lies?
Best Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture
Tom Hanks (“A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood”) Anthony Hopkins (“The Two Popes”) Al Pacino (“The Irishman”) Joe Pesci (“The Irishman”) Brad Pitt (“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”) (WINNER)
Brad Pitt’s good, and this is one of the awards that I’m cool with Once Upon a Time picking up, but was he better than Pesci and Pacino? I mean, is anyone??
Best Director — Motion Picture Bong Joon-ho (“Parasite”) Sam Mendes (“1917”) (WINNER) Todd Phillips (“Joker”) Martin Scorsese (“The Irishman”) Quentin Tarantino (“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”)
Again, the winner is the only film I haven’t seen.  I can vouch all the other directors were great.
Best Screenplay — Motion Picture Noah Baumbach (“Marriage Story”) Bong Joon-ho and Han Jin Won (“Parasite”) Anthony McCarten (“The Two Popes”) Quentin Tarantino (“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”) (WINNER) Steven Zaillian (“The Irishman”)
Ok, it pains me to say this, but Tarantino should not have gotten this one.  Give his film any other award but this one! He did a decent job of directing, his cast gave great performances, the wardrobe and production design was fabulous, the editing is solid, even the music was alright (ok, fine, don’t nominate the film for its music neither)... but the weak link in Once Upon a Time...In Hollywood is the story.  It’s so beneath what QT can do, it’s like QT made palatable. So please don’t recognize him for this script out of all his scripts.  Don’t encourage him to write more scripts like this one.  Nevermind that every other film on this list had a better script than his. If I got to pick, I’d have chosen The Irishman, but would have accepted any of the other three as winner.
Best Motion Picture — Foreign Language
“The Farewell” (A24) “Les Misérables” (Amazon) “Pain and Glory” (Sony Pictures Classics) “Parasite” (Neon) (WINNER) “Portrait of a Lady on Fire” (Neon)
“Once you overcome the one-inch tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films” Preach Boon Joon-Ho!  I’m actually very impressed with the list of nominees this year and I’m even more pleased the best film won.
Best Motion Picture — Animated
“Frozen 2” (Disney) “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” (Universal) “The Lion King” (Disney) “Missing Link” (United Artists) (WINNER) “Toy Story 4” (Disney)
Best Original Score — Motion Picture
Alexandre Desplat (“Little Women”) Hildur Guðnadóttir (“Joker”) (WINNER) Randy Newman (“Marriage Story”) Thomas Newman (“1917”) Daniel Pemberton (“Motherless Brooklyn”)
I don’t know that any score in particular stood out for me this year, but now that you mention it, Joker did have a pretty great score.  It was mentioned that Hildur Guonadottir also wrote the score for Chernobyl and that one was affecting.
Best Original Song — Motion Picture
“Beautiful Ghosts” (“Cats”) “I’m Gonna Love Me Again” (“Rocketman”) (WINNER) “Into the Unknown” (“Frozen 2”) “Spirit” (“The Lion King”) “Stand Up” (“Harriet”)
Why don’t I know a single one of these songs?
Best Television Series — Drama
“Big Little Lies” (HBO) “The Crown” (Netflix) “Killing Eve” (BBC America) “The Morning Show” (Apple TV Plus) “Succession” (HBO) (WINNER)
I should watch Succession.
Best Television Series — Musical or Comedy
“Barry” (HBO) “Fleabag” (Amazon) (WINNER) “The Kominsky Method” (Netflix) “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” (Amazon) “The Politician” (Netflix)
I should really watch Fleabag.
Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
“Catch-22″ (Hulu) “Chernobyl” (HBO) (WINNER) “Fosse/Verdon” (FX) The Loudest Voice (Showtime) “Unbelievable” (Netflix)
Everyone should watch Chernobyl.  I stood in front of Reactor 4 shortly before the series aired and when I shared my photos from overseas people were freaking out. I got home and watched the series for myself and truly understood why.
Best Actress in a Television Series — Drama
Jennifer Aniston (“The Morning Show”) Olivia Colman (“The Crown”) (WINNER) Jodie Comer (“Killing Eve”) Nicole Kidman (“Big Little Lies”) Reese Witherspoon (“The Morning Show”)
Best Actor in a Television Series — Drama
Brian Cox (“Succession”) (WINNER) Kit Harington (“Game of Thrones”) Rami Malek (“Mr. Robot”) Tobias Menzies (“The Crown”) Billy Porter (“Pose”)
Best Actress in a Television Series — Musical or Comedy
Christina Applegate (“Dead to Me”) Rachel Brosnahan (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) Kirsten Dunst (“On Becoming a God in Central Florida”) Natasha Lyonne (“Russian Doll”) Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag”) (WINNER)
Best Actor in a Television Series — Musical or Comedy
Michael Douglas (“The Kominsky Method”) Bill Hader (“Barry”) Ben Platt (“The Politician”) Paul Rudd (“Living With Yourself”) Ramy Youssef (“Ramy”) (WINNER)
Best Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
Kaitlyn Dever (“Unbelievable”) Joey King (“The Act”) Helen Mirren (“Catherine the Great”) Merritt Wever (“Unbelievable”) Michelle Williams (“Fosse/Verdon”) (WINNER)
Michelle Williams for best acceptance speech for the night - amiright?
Best Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
Christopher Abbott (“Catch-22”) Sacha Baron Cohen (“The Spy”) Russell Crowe (“The Loudest Voice”) (WINNER) Jared Harris (“Chernobyl”) Sam Rockwell (“Fosse/Verdon”)
Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
Patricia Arquette (“The Act”) (WINNER) Helena Bonham Carter (“The Crown”) Toni Collette (“Unbelievable”) Meryl Streep (“Big Little Lies”) Emily Watson (“Chernobyl”)
Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
Alan Arkin (“The Kominsky Method”) Kieran Culkin (“Succession”) Andrew Scott (“Fleabag”) Stellan Skarsgård (“Chernobyl”) (WINNER) Henry Winkler (“Barry”)
Well, that’s me and my two cents. Between the SAG Awards being a couple weeks away and us being in the midst of our January 30 Films in 31 Days film challenge I gotta get back to watching more films stat!

This post contains spoilers for ‘Miss Helen’s Weird West Cabaret’ by Paul Shapera. For those who have not heard his music before, I recommend you check him out. All of his works are amazing, and while this is somewhat connected to his New Albion operas, you don’t need to have listened to them to enjoy this one.
So the Cabaret is amazing. The music is so fun and funny, I couldn’t stop dancing while I was doing the dishes. Every time I think he’s made his best work yet, he just gets better and better.
My favorite song is probably ‘Henry the Alchemist’. It’s honest to god about a gay man who turns into a monster when he gets a boner. It’s a very Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde situation, and the song is amazing.
There’s also the Sheriff, who fell in love with a werewolf girl.
And Han-mi who is quick to point out things that are problematic, I love it.
THE END OF THE FINALE OMFGGGG
When I heard the voice ‘Do you wish to initiate dialogue?’ i SCREAMED.
I’m so excited for the next one.

Give like the sun, and the whole world grows tall. – Atticus
Funny People is my favorite performance of myself to date. Even though it’s a comedy and there are serious moments, I really felt like Leo felt like a real person. It didn’t feel like I was playing myself. Whether it’s a comedy or drama, I just try to make it as realistic as possible. – Jonah Hill
