like sure it is a ~cliched underdog story of the type the 80s in particular loved to tell, but I think the fact that the underdog in question really is like - both the people that the esp Reaganite American society builds its strength on attacking and needs to have in submission + those cultural values themselves - is so moving.

I saw it called like, Rocky for kids but while that's also an underdog story it's got pretty different social dynamics involved.
